Liveblogging the SCOAMF
— andy

I really can't stand the sound of the SCOAMF's voice anymore. But what the hell, let's liveblog this POS.

Tonight's drinking game keywords will create or save approximately 3,000 Green Jobs™ since they're based on recycling. Specifically, old plans repackaged as the new hotness like a crappy label maker:

  • Payroll tax holiday

  • Unemployment extension

  • Infrastructure (Infrastructure+bank=shotgun a beer)

  • Immediate expensing

  • Job training

  • Aid to states

  • Patent reform *yawn*

  • Trade agreement

  • Country above party

If he uses "stimulus" or "recovery" from the old version of the Newspeak dictionary, just go ahead and down everything you have.

Liveblog thingy below the fold.

Standard reminder: Your comments do not automatically display. So don't ask "Why aren't my comments displaying?" They don't display.

They're not posted comments a la chat room. Instead they go to queue, which the producers (cobloggers) read, and we post them, by hand, if we think they make a good point.

Thanks for taking one for the team.

Thankfully, the local AM station is going on with the normal Buckeye football call-in program instead of going live with O'Dickbag.

I'll just read the comments and laugh and drink, ad infinitum.

An insufferable ass is an insufferable ass, of course, of course
And no one can talk sense to an insufferable ass, of course
And especially, of course, if the insufferable ass is the famous Barack Obama

Go right to the source and ask the insufferable ass
HeÂ’ll give you the answer that deceivers will endorse
HeÂ’s always on a dissemblers course
Talk to Barack Obama

Barack Obama just yakkity yaks a streak and wastes your time of day
Does any sane person even believe anymore a thing he has to say?

An insufferable ass is an insufferable ass, of course, of course
And this oneÂ’ll talk in prevaricating circles til his voice is hoarse
You never heard of a talking insufferable ass?

Well listen to this

He is Barack Obama

I'm betting on "peace dividend" or it's modern equiv. Gotta pay for the new stimulus somehow, and they just announced the Iraq draw-down to 3000 troops in-country. Meshes rather neatly with the OBL kill and the 9/11 anniversary. I expect an A-stan draw-down announcement within the month.

Polls show that upwards of 70% of the people say the country is headed in the wrong direction - read that as Obama is leading it in the wrong direction. Looks to me like it's time to start a petition withdrawing our consent.

Posted by: Retread at September 08, 2011 03:30 PM (obdvE)

282 Here's the deal....

he is delivering a campaign speech yelling "I am still relevant" to the Congress....

you'll notice that it is not only the GOP sitting looking at him stonefaced at times.....

he says "this bill will be paid for" everyone knows he means taxes when he says that....that is why less than a 1/3d stood up....

attempting to browbeat the GOP into eating the donk's favorite meal of Union Pie because in the past the bargain was "we'll eat your union Pie but we need some investor meat" is not "bi-partisan".....

he is caught like an anaconda is wrapped around him by labor....

the unions' popularity is worse than his and the American people could give two fucks about making the union movement happy....

the AARA signs are still fresh in people's memory and the money WAS spent....but I didn't see a lot of work being done....I did see 10,000 dollar signs every 1/2 mile but damn few "workers"....

it is like Barack doesn't understand that the reason we build the roads, have the airports, and maintain the seaports is because of trade...and for their to be "real" trade we need healthy businesses that feel stable enough with the political classes taxing and regulating zeal to go to work....

he did not speak once to overregulation or EPA overreach, and he will not...he refuses to acknowledge that the only way to get capital back into the pipe in the volume needed for a boom is instead of a payroll holiday grant a capital gains/ estate tax holiday....

W turned around an already stalling economy from 9/11....it may in fact be the only thing he got done domestically I agree with....the problem is NOT that DC doesn't have enough money to play with if properly used the problem is DC is in the business of giving half a billion in loans with no oversight to pet companies......

I have made up my mind to give every spare cent I can to destroying this man and his party this cycle.....

we cannot afford to have a guy who is at best inept and at worst willfully destructive in charge anymore.

304 $100 billion -> canal diggers.
$050 billion -> public relations agencies so people to love the canal.
$050 billion -> AFL-CIO organizing efforts for same.
$050 billion -> worker's compensation lawyers for same.
$050 billion -> lawyers to fight the inevitable eminent demesne battles.
$050 billion -> EPA examination of route to make sure they find a purple-spotted three-eyed newt.
$050 billion -> lawyers to fight the canal digging on behalf of the newts.
$050 billion -> canal-fillers.

Calculating Keynesian Stimulus Factor:
1) Figure out rate-of-return on actual infrastructure. (In this case, that's a big nada.)
2) Figure out number and value of -new- jobs.
3) Multiply.
4) Subtract interest payments and repayment schedule.
Results -> Hey, this was quite dumb.

Oh, the President doesn't view Keynesianism that way? Ok: Calculating -neo-Keynsian- stimulous.
1) Make shit up.
2) Be ecstatic about spending $250,000 to create a single $35,000 job.
Results -> Hey, not only was that dumb, but you sound like a scandi advocating that kind of bs.

The Man couldn't identify infrastructure even if they crashed the Monster Bus into it.

455 Latecomer, so maybe it's been said already, but isn't the whole scenario theoretically inconsistent?   Obama says we need to spend in order to "jump-start" the economy.  (Note Steyn today on the overuse of this metaphor.)   Governments can spend in one of two ways:  they can either directly spend money (in this case, money that we don't have and must borrow), or they can reduce taxes.   Either way, money gets injected into the economy and through the miracle of Keynesian economics, circulates, generating economic activity, growth and, presumably, new employment.   But what Obama is proposing is to simultaneously spend money and increase taxes to "pay for" the spending.   How exactly is that stimulus if the net amount of money injected into the economy is zero?   All it really means is that the government gets to decide who gets to receive stimulus dollars, and whose ox gets gored on the other side through new taxes.   It's not stimulus, it's simply a "grow bigger government" program.

It really sounded like an infomercial at points than a presidential speech. "You should pass this right away!"

A commission to study regulations. We can stack those recommendations next to the recommendations of the last few debt commissions.

And despite it all, more taxes for the evil rich.

Pass it all. It's only a few more hundred billion on the pile. Let him own the economy for the next, ughhh, 14 months.

My quick reaction: as usual, excellent speech. Most of the specific proposals were either good or harmless. On balance, probably worth passing. But I'm still scared as hell about what might come of it if the White House sits down to negotiate it with the GOP. That's where I hope people listen to his call to action, and push not just Congress, but also the administration, to do what's right for the economy.

Republicans should go along with the infratstructure and the payroll tax cuts. There is no infrastucture project out there that is designed, permitted and ready to go that isn't already funded. It won't make a bit of difference in the unemployment rate but it's part of the highway bill and we've already paid the gas tax to fund it. The payroll tax cut will just further starve out social security and medi care.

606 nah I don't think so.....

because when they cry bambi didn't get precisely what he wanted boehner says "I won too"....

frankly Boehner has barry as boxed in as the GOP is since they have passed 12 jobs bills and Reid is blocking them.....

Except that the same rules don't apply to the GOP as they do for the Dems.  The bills that Reid blocked don't count- only when the GOP prevents the SCOAMF from getting his binky does it count as obstructionism.

Oh!

No, they are not!

Silly retailers, they think their sales are gonna BLOW last quarter of 2011, why won't they hire?

I'm just curious, mostly because I am irredeemably stupid and it never occured to me to imagine up any "friends" in the retail sector.

I know a lot of people (who are cats) who know a lot about basic supply chains (Fancy Feast & Tidy Cat) and they are very worried about local distribution points being affected by a disruption in the supply chain (what if I forget how to take a bus) here in New York.

These are some top level people (cats) who post on Zero Hedge and if they are worried so should you be.

All of the people (cats) who are in the know and listen to the Jon Batchelor show are worried as well.

These are moderate voters (who are cats) who won't take kindly to Tea-Party type obstructionists when it comes to their Fancy Feast.

Mock me all you want but I know who I am talking about.

Thesee are real people (cats) who live in New York and understand the issues the way some other people can't be bothered to if they didn't go through 911.

Depends on what it is. Stimulus bills similar to what he wanted when they were in the minority are DOA. Temporary tax cuts and a minor lightening of the regulatory burden would be easier to pass, but there are a number of fiscal hawks who have previously taken a stand against temporary measures. the alteration of US and English thought back to Austrian/Classic capitalism didn't happen overnight....

Milton Friedman himself started out an enthusiastic Keynesian....

Uncle Milty's Conversion happened because he is a mega-genius on the topic....

His history of monetary policy of the United States is awesome.

Basically Milton figured out the flaw in keynes is its treatment of consumption function is a fairy tale....

all hell broke loose in the econ community and the Chicago school was born.....

grossly simplified of course....

but still

he is both the father of "automatic withholding" and popular "supply side theory".....

he also gave one of the best explanations of why barack's antics are doomed to fail and the underlying flaw in Government directed money packet "stimulus" by mapping the complexity of stabilization theory.....

Shit, I force my kid to eat lead paint smothered in mercury with a side of uranium ice cream.  Did I mention how I force his head into the microwave and turn it on?

how do you confront a strawman built on what to any logical person should be a luaghable falsehood in 15 seconds?

I mean the precautionary principle that barack relies on to make up his strawman army is a laughable falsehood....

it is an internally inconsistent crutch used to justify an ever increasing regulatory bent regardless of cost....

weak thinking and the use of the precautionary principle in modifications to the clean air act are why the EPA can know declare on a whim that CO2 is a pollutant....

YOU HAVE TO PROVE IT IS NOT BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT....

the average idiot voter that the strawman army is marched for cannot comprehend things like the insanity of the ban on DDT.....

the freon ban leading to a more dangerous refrigerant being used for no ozone gain...

the target audience of the strawman army ain't us.....

and flaming them isn't easy without a steady stream of extended exposure to flame.

I agree, I don't think "Do Nothing Congress" is going to fly this time. The House Republicans have been the ones proposing new ideas and passing bills while Reid and Obama block them. Their fall schedule also includes a targeting of numerous regulations and some tax policies. As long as they can compare and contrast their record with Obama's, they should be fine.

673 "So when is someone going to come up with a 'Chinese Menu' for Barky's speeches?"

A friend once told me of a stunt pulled by some guys in his graduating class at college. Before commencement, they distributed "Commencement Bingo Cards"; except that instead of numbers and letters, the squares were marked with randomly distributed cliches: you know, "the future lies ahead of us," and the like. The commencement speaker was shocked when, about two-thirds of the way through his speech, half a dozen graduated leaped to their feet, yelling "BINGO!"

Teh Won cries out for Obama Bingo Cards. His talks are so cliche-ridden and so predictable, people would be bingoing-out within five minutes.

677 I really can't stand the sound of the SCOAMF's voice anymore.

Neither can I. The TV, the radio, and the receiver in my truck all get either the mute treatment or a complete shutoff if an audio clip is coming, or is run suddenly.

679 Yes Barry if we don't pass it we hate the "working man" puppies and baby seals. Why just ask Brian Williams, we're all a bunch of electric chair lovin' bitter clingers.

Quote from Andrew Malcom's LA Times article:

--Sven, it's been a significant problem for at least ten years, because it hits more and more people.  The GOP could have fixed it in the early 2000s if they had wanted to do so.
