— Ace Verum Serum has must-watch videos from England.
The first video shows a line of about eight cops retreating from rioters, who throw rocks and lengths of wood at them.
The second video contains the line: "London is going down."
The third has a young woman, who doesn't seem likely to be paying taxes, claiming she's just "getting our taxes back" by looting.
The fourth is an elderly black woman yelling at the rioters to stop what they're doing.
Across much of London on Monday night, if someone had decided to break down your door and rape your daughter, there would have been nothing to stop them. There would have been no one to call. When I was mugged, I was on my way home from a day in Tottenham, listening to the stories of the people who had lost far more and been at far greater risk than me, burned out of their homes at 30 seconds’ notice. They called 999 too, frantically, desperately, as the riot moved closer. There were 100 police just up the road. The emergency operator could do nothing but listen to their terror. I finished my journey in a cab. Three or four times, we had to stop and skirt round hooded boys spilling into the road, our windows closed and the door lock on. If they had fancied my taxi, there would have been nothing I or the driver could have done about that, either. Even on Monday, the victims of Tottenham, black and white, were already tired of outsiders blaming racism, police brutality, or cuts. (What were they rioting about in prosperous, suburban Enfield – rising season-ticket prices?) The real reason for the rioters’ behaviour is much simpler: because they can. Forget BlackBerry Messenger. After seeing — on television — how much leeway the looters of Tottenham were allowed, every criminal and every excitement-seeking child in London took note. By the next day, critical mass had been achieved. Disorder had erupted on a scale much more difficult to suppress than the original outbreak.
OF course. They police were told essentially to let them riot, and so they rioted still further.
At the NRO link, those forming vigilance committees to protect their own damn homes and businesses are being told to stay home and not make trouble.
What?
And yet those protecting their businesses do in fact fear the government will arrest them.
"I was here with my brother and my boss waiting for them until about midnight," said 16-year-old Huseyin Beytar. "If some guy ever breaks a window in this street, all the Turkish Kurdish people come down to protect the shops. We're like a family.""We have to do things for ourselves," said Huseyin. "We have to look after each other. If they come here tonight there will be a fight, a big fight."
"We were outside ready and expecting them," said the manager of Turkish Food Market, who asked not to be named.
"But I felt very panicky because we are not safe from either the rioters or police.
"We put all of our efforts into this shop. It took 20 years to get it like this. But we do not know about our rights.
"I'm scared that the police and the government will attack us if we defend our businesses.
"We are being squeezed between the two."

This is the root of the problem. Rioters have gotten away with it for decades and they know there are no controls.
Civilization depends on people obeying the law. if the majority of the public decide that there is no law, or no consequences for breaking the law, civilization will collapse.
And that folks is where we are at in almost all of the urban areas, including here.

we shall fight on the streets and alleys,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the loot, we shall defend our Welfare checks, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight over the plasma TVs,
we shall fight over who loots backpacks,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the malls;
we shall never surrender our loot, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet Street press, would carry on the looting, until, in Chav’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth with more stuff to loot.”

When government takes away your firearms, the unspoken promise is that they will protect you in times of trouble.
You don't need the gun because you are protected by the state.
It is now plain for all to see that this isn't true. The state cannot protect you, and at times doesn't want to protect you because it fears the rioters more than it fears the law abiding citizen. It makes sense that the state is more fearful of someone who will burn down a building than someone who will voluntarily turn in their only means of defense, a gun, when the state requests it.
This situation should help some of our Republican compatriots who are leary of those of us who consider the ownership of firearms as such a big deal.

I know that's the way it is over here. (I may be wrong about the other taxes and governmental fees since I'm no from there)
Even the poor pay sales taxes and property taxes if they have cars or homes that qualify. Some places even have personal property taxes on other items of personal property.
Everyone pays other governmental fees unless they have a specific program to defer these. (such as court fees)
So yes just like here; even though it is touted about that 50% of people don't pay taxes here they do pay other taxes and fees.
Just for the record.
And of course that gives them NO right to riot or destroy other peoples property.

Oh, great. That's just what these particular fires needed: more gasoline.
So now- in all likelihood- we'll get (rather more justified, IMO) Muslim riots ("Where were the police!?!") on top of the current riots. Both sides will lose, but the innocents caught in the middle will lose more.

I saw a link at Insty the other day from a Somali message board.
It was someone living in Somalia who called a relative living in England asking them if they were okay.
Let that sink in. Someone living in somalia called a reltive in England to see if they were okay given all the violence.
I also say a great line somewhere, "We can no longer pretend that English society has any real future".

England is extraordinarily dystopian on this point -- they prosecute people for defending their homes, and yet they will not fucking bust rioters' heads and quell the violence.
Indeed, various people here have been linking to stories out of England in the side bar on this very subject. I remember reading one where a man was sued by a criminal who cut his hand on barbed wire while robbing the owners shed.
It really is dystopian there, or should I say utopian? This is the states utopia and the peoples dystopia.

The real reason for the rioters’ behaviour is much simpler: because they can. Forget BlackBerry Messenger. After seeing — on television — how much leeway the looters of Tottenham were allowed, every criminal and every excitement-seeking child in London took note.
"Excitement-seeking child." That's the key. There is some similarity to the riots in Milwaukee, my hometown, recently. Here we had "excitement-seeking" children who happened to be black, finding transgressive pleasure in hitting white people. Sure, there was a racism angle, and, sure, there is a breakdown-of-the-black-community-and-black-family angle. But at the end of the day those were just pretexts to seek the excitement of rioting.
It's not an accident, in other words, that rioters are almost always young men, and that the first thing they attack is almost always a liquor store.
There's also a difference in America. Americans have guns. So while the attacks outside of State Fair were horrible, they also didn't go too far; it was as if the kids , after crossing one line, pulled back from the next line. People got beat up, not killed. And no one in Milwaukee is going to start torching businesses or homes, I guarantee it. There are too many business owners and homeowners who have weapons. In London, they've disarmed the population, and empowered the criminals. No wonder their riots go farther than ours.

When it happens here, it won't be Detroit, Baltimore, or Atlanta. It will be San Francisco or Seattle, or someplace with a similar political attitude (tree hugging commies). Seattle already showed the willingness to have the police stand back while a white guy was beaten to death by a black gang during Mardis Gras riots, all because they were worried about their image in the black community. It was several years ago now, but I don't imagine things have gotten any better.

This caused a bit of a stir...with one guy assuming I was being sarcastic, and the other that I also meant that rioting was good or justified.
That wasn't what I meant. I basically meant that "sin" or "wrong doing" or however you tend to define malfeasance is enjoyable.
We do bad things because we can and because we enjoy them.
I stand by my earlier statement that people riot because it is fun.
The rioters in London are enjoying themselves immensely, having the time of their lives.

A month or two ago, in some forgotten corner of this blog, someone asked "why do people riot?"
I responded "because it is fun."
Absolutely right. Ask yourself this. If you were from outer space, and you came to Earth and saw the riots after the Rodney King beating, and then you time-traveled backward to the riots after the Detroit Tigers won the 1984 World Series, or forward to the Vancouver riots after the Canucks lost the 2011 Stanley Cup, could you tell them apart? I don't think so. Yet one had a so-called "political" spark, and the others were after sporting events. In reality, they were all just young men in a critical mass with too much liquor and not enough adult supervision.

It should be noted than many of the Harry Browns are in fact the immigrants that many English despise, like the Turks.
I think the white English would do well to have a little reflection over who is more traditionally English these days, them or the immigrants.

The most fundamental right is the right to self defense. If I cannot protect myself from attack, then there's no reason to bother with any other right. The UK has spent the last few decades destroying the right to self defense. This is the only logical end to those policies. Once the protections of civilization have been abandoned, there's no reason to cling to the burdens of civilization.
As far as US cities, I'm thinking Atlanta, Detroit (though really who would notice if half of Detroit burned), parts of Chicago and possibly Seattle. LA would turn pretty instantly into all out (even more) open gang warfare.

I think she meant the taxes that the rich should have paid, and delivered to her, but didn't.
Its not taxes - its revenue! Where have you been?

A quick look at history shows where these things can happen.
Recall the Rodney King riots? There was a lot of outrage, but only in LA was there anything like London and even then it didn't last long.
In Atlanta there were a few shops smashed up but no big fires like London. If they'd broken out guns or started real damage, the gloves would have come off and there'd be dead rioters. If the rioters started breaking into homes, Darwin's hand would have been very heavy on those lower life forms. Remember, the Second Amendment is with you when the Force is not.

"Though riots may appear mindless, they often have real benefits to the communities rioting. Riots have real economic gains: large scale theft (a vigorous redistribution of wealth); insurance companies are forced to pay
out, so meaningful sums of money can be forced into circulation;
rebuilding creates jobs; firefighters, cops, lawyers, judges, and the
whole social justice system is ramped up; factories have to make the
replacement cars and other items; essentially riots can accomplish what
governments are failing to do, transfer static (fictional paper) wealth
from the rich and simulate local real economies. Ya, it's a horrible
way to go about reinvigorating an economy, but obviously your
government and welfare Royals aren't doing any better, or there wouldn't
be riots."

When government takes away your firearms, the unspoken promise is that they will protect you in times of trouble.
You don't need the gun because you are protected by the state.
Even if the police have every intent on defending the innocent with deadly force if necessary (as in the USA), they can't possibly respond quickly enough to defend you.

This is just the end result of liberal politics. Since the 1960s, the liberals in the UK, and the democrats in the US have been preaching about their version of fairness. They have repeatedly told their supporters that those with money must have gotten it unfairly, and that it is justice to take wealth from those that have it, and redistribute it to those that don't. They have asked their supporters to form mobs to intimidate politicians, judges, CEOs, and other representatives of the upper reaches of society. They have repeatedly enjoined their supporters to roam in the streets, chanting "No justice, no peace!". They have repeatedly told their supporters that they will be rewarded for sloth, and punished for working. They have repeatedly instructed their supporters that those with money are evil, and the poor are inherently good. They have repeatedly told their supporters that criminal action must be understood, and that prison is for rehabilitation, not punishment. They have repeatedly worked to undermine moral values, while at the same time underfunding their military and police infrastructure.
Now that (to quote Lady Thatcher), the livberals are running out of other peoples' money to hand over to the societal leeches, the leeches have discovered that not only does the emperor have no clothes, he is also poorly armed. The looters are merely cutting out the now impotent middleman, and taking from those that contribute to society directly, instead of relying on the liberal politician to give them the cover of 'compassion' while doing much the same via less violent means.

Nope.
The state has more use for someone who'll burn down a building than for someone who'll stop that guy.
"We are being squeezed between the two."
Between.
There are state-funded (or -dependent) functionaries ("community organizers," and police, e.g.) whose job (real job) is to keep the trash in line (for the dole)—and to send or let them out of line when it serves the interest of the state to do so. Like when there are "cuts" that need to be shown to be dangerous to society.
It's the professional left's version of the "Cut our budget by .07%? Fine, we'll shut down the fire department" move cities make whenever the voters get non-compliant.
Don't get bamboozled.

It might happen below the Mason-Dixon line, but it won't last long with GOP governors. Heck, Gov. Perry might man the water hose himself when he is not shooting coyotes while jogging.
All you gotta do is look how property owners managed their homes after Katrina with signs like this: "You Loot I Will Shoot."
The best sign I saw then was a store owner in French Quarter who basically said (in a sign) that he was "armed, had a hungry dog and a mean wife." It could have read a hot dog and a hungry wife...regardless, I don't think the looters messed with him. I know that in cities in Mississippi the word from mayors was "shoot to kill." An armed society is a polite society or something.

No, its not. LA is very big and its lost on many. South Central is bad on a good day. You'd never want to break down on the 710 at night.
Sunset is on the 'rich' side of the 101 fwy, while the other side is the valley.. a valley of welfare scumbags. I don't think a riot could happen there though, because there are so many cops. LAPD or the Sheriffs Dept don't fuck around here. Its already happend here and the training is based, you know, on real life shit.
Alot of people outside of CA kind of picture the Rodney King thing as the jury gets out, then people start burning things outside the courthouse. Nope. Simi Valley (King trial thingy place) is 40 miles away from where the riots happened. Riots started because black community organizers agitated for them to riot. "No Justice, No Peace".. yep. They just wanted to break stuff and take whatever wasn't nailed down. It didn't spread too far from the poor area. People shot back. Especially the Asian store owners. They weren't prosecuted either, for the most part.
South Central or East Los Angeles? Yep. anything is possible. Sad thing is, nobody would give two shits either. The only business outside of liquor stores are our entire industrial base. So no biggy. /sarc
