Lots of Democrats Traded on TARP Non-Public Information, Too
— Ace

Despite 60 Minutes' laser-like focus on Republicans (4 Republicans, 1 Democrat), in fact 80% of the corruption detailed in Scheweizer's book is, I'm told, on the the Democratic side.

"September 17, 2008, was by far [Rep. Jim] MoranÂ’s most active trading day of the year," writes Schweitzer. "He dumped shares in Goldman Sachs, General Dynamics, Franklin Resources, Flowserve Corporation, Ecolabs, Edison International, Electronic Arts, DirecTV, Conoco, Procter & Gamble, AT&T, Apple, CVS, Cisco, Chubb, and a dozen more companies." Schweitzer actually counts ninety companies that Moran dumped, helping him avoid big losses.

And of course we're not even talking about Professor Solyndra.

O/T but just saw the Dr. Who thing in the sidebar and now I'm all mad and stuff. Hollywood is going to ruin it. Just ruin it. Asshats thinking they can take something inherently British and clever and make it better.

I promise to eat my hat if it turns out to be a good movie, but I'm pretty sure my hat will be safe.

Make sure it is brought up the next time they are up for election to office. I suspect that more than a few will opt for quietly retiring or not seeking re-election.

On the other hand, if they could put Martha Stewart in jail, why not these yahoos?

Well, that's why the media is concentrating on Repub's on this story.  They're hoping that it will lead to more D's elected.

Martha Stewart isn't a member of Congress.  She should go to jail.  Thought I read somewhere that Congress can do this type of thing without repercussion because they ARE the law, but don't have to abide by it in such cases.

In which case, no member of Congress could ever go to jail. I think some are still cooling their heels at ClubFed for taking bribes from defense contractors.

I'm not saying you're wrong - Congress has a really bad habit of exempting itself from laws.

Perhaps Gabe or some other legal eagle could think about drafting a constitutional amendment making Congress liable to all laws, rules and regulations?

39 HR 1148 is a bill designed to stop this insider trading by Congress. Similar bills have been introduced in previous sessions of Congress, and just never seem to attract much support. Amazing, huh?

48 You know, this suggests a pretty good scheme to trick the MBM in covering a Dem scandal, to wit: First, present the story with the guilty parties being exclusively from the GOP. Then when the MBM falls all over itself drumming up outrage for these horrible crimes, pull the curtain back to reveal all the Dems involved, in such a way that it would be absolutely impossible for the MBM to just drop the story without making itself look like a complete tool in the process.

I'll bet somebody like Breitbart would be able to pull off something like this.
