— rdbrewer I was poking around The Perfect World forum the other day and found a link owner CalGal posted to a New York Times article about a film only William Shatner could have made, The Captains. It's a documentary about
In “The Captains,” which Mr. Shatner wrote and directed, he interviews the five performers who have succeeded him as “Star Trek” leaders, on starships or space stations: Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, Scott Bakula and Chris Pine.
. . .
Much of the fun of watching “The Captains” is waiting to see just how shameless a huckster and self-promoter Mr. Shatner can be. You don’t have to wait long. He starts his journey by flying to England to visit Mr. Stewart, and on the tarmac he greets an executive of the aerospace company whose plane will carry him. It’s a blatant product placement, but it’s more than that: in the course of the conversation, it comes out that the man’s career choice was inspired by “Star Trek.” “He became an aeronautical engineer because of me!” Mr. Shatner says, with limpid satisfaction.
. . .
Striding among the booths, he encounters a series of actresses who are there to make money off their “Trek” connections — Jeri Ryan, Sally Kellerman, Grace Lee Whitney (the ageless Yeoman Rand). Each time he turns to the camera and says, this was the most beautiful girl in the history of “Star Trek."
(Emphasis added.) Heh. I love the way Shatner plays "a guy named William Shatner." He's always right on the edge of being a douchebag but never crosses the line. There's a self-deprecating quality built into his act. He's always making fun of himself, and he's in on the joke. It's a parody of The Self-Absorbed Actor. Or is it an act? Very skillful indeed.
There should be an Oscar for off-screen lifestyle and self-promotion, the "Living the Life" award. Heck, just call it "The Shatner."
Shatnerpalooza sounds like fun. So does that documentary. I don't get Epix, so somebody tell us about it. The Captains started on Epix channel on Friday, and Shatnerpalooza is already underway.
Trailer below the fold. (Thanks to "gu1tar.")

William Shatner is an asshole. I like his work on Star Trek, but he sucks in everything else. And he's not a good person.
And he's Canadian.

Unfortunately, that toy in this case is a chainsaw.
This is a place for people to share comments on the topic (ideally) or at least share comments with each other.
I'm sure Pixy will disallow tags, but until then, every time you use one, you risk making the comments section nigh-unusable for everyone.
And I'm looking hard at you, Undead.
Last night's fiasco was amusing. It'll no doubt become part of the lore of AoS. Once, on an Overnight OT is funny. Fouling up daytime threads, which are Ace's bread & butter, is most definitely not funny.
Ace depends on hits for his livelihood. A lot less people are going to get with the clickety-clicks if the comments sections are unusable.
And the co- & open- bloggers aren't paid a dime for their content, and shouldn't have to spend a lot of time baby-sitting their comments for general bad behavior, much less for open tags.
So I'm sorry for being a wet blanket. If you won't do it for me, Do it for the Ewoks.

WASHINGTON -- Debt ceiling negotiators think they've hit on a solution to address the debt ceiling impasse and the public's unwillingness to let go of benefits such as Medicare and Social Security that have been earned over a lifetime of work: Create a new Congress.
This "Super Congress," composed of members of both chambers and both parties, isn't mentioned anywhere in the Constitution, but would be granted extraordinary new powers. Under a plan put forth by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and his counterpart Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), legislation to lift the debt ceiling would be accompanied by the creation of a 12-member panel made up of 12 lawmakers -- six from each chamber and six from each party.

My sincere apologies for goofing on you beyond the pale the other day. I took that way too far, even in jest.

Nope! I work outside for a living and trust me, that first ice cold beer is best enjoyed chugged, not sipped.
Especially after this past week.

I will agree to your terms IF, in addition to yourself, you hand over all data regarding the HTML tag called ... Genesis!

Yes. When you're inside, in the A/C, and watching your kids do the yard work outside.

Help me sort this out. I just watched 7 Youtube clips of the Captain's summit above. Those are not the "Captains" which is a show by Shatner which is the Shatner palooza?
That's on some channel called Epix which only BK gets??
WTF

Two weeks ago I attended a conference put on by Cisco Systems where Shatner had the closing keynote. It was a Q&A with a Cisco exec, unscripted. Shatner came across as the most down-to-earth guy you could imagine. He was very funny at times and even thought-provoking. Not pretentious at all. A guy you'd have a beer with. It was great.
