Actually it's not funny. It's disgraceful and maddening.
It continues to wig me out that the "news" people presume to be the monitors and checks on everyone else, via the power of asking pointed questions, but will not stand for such questions themselves.
What a useful thing it would be to have the New York Times editors and columnists and reporters stand for questioning by a hostile. skeptical audience for three hours every month. How much bias that would expose.
But they won't. Everyone but them must answer questions about their job performance, sweetheart deals for friends, and corrupt, conflicted-in-interest decisions.
There are only three possible reasons to explain why the media relentlessly covers any untoward statement by conservative protesters and never reports at all on calls to violence by the left:
1. They believe leftwingers and unionmembers are incapable of being incited to violence. This is absurd on its face.
2. They believe that leftwingers and union members have a right to be angry. That is, when they call their opponents Hitler, they're actually right -- their opponents are Hitler.
3. They are simply political actors doing what political actors do, inventing political arguments and special pleadings having nothing at all to do with the truth or objectivity.
Let me point out regarding possiblility 2 -- that leftwingers are right to call opponents Hitler and suggest political violence, because they are just that legitimately aggrieved -- that an ethic is a rule that is supposed to apply to all parties without regard of whether or not the prohibited behavior is moral or justified or "right" in the particular case. See, the whole point of ethics is that it is a bright-line, objective code that does not rely on calls about morality in a particular circumstance -- such calls are often fuzzy, and almost always compromised by self-interest.
Yes, I know everyone on the left thinks they're "right" in every ugly utterance they scream. But those on the right who shout ugly things also think they're right; you cannot then base a standard of behavior on the subjectively shifting sands of who's "right."
An ethic is supposed to be a rule of behavior that is divorced from such subjective claims about personal latitude due to the claimed moral urgency of one's cause.
If an ethic does not bind all equally, then it's not an ethic, and is, really, nothing at all. It's a fucking whine, that's what it is.

Members of the media believe that liberals ideas are basically the right ones.
They believe that Democrats positions are mostly based on principle, with any politics involved being a necessary evil. They believe that most Republican positions are purely political.
Basically, they don't believe nonliberal ideas are legitimate. That's what they really believe. They try to pretend, a little, but they believe most policy debates are NOT between two opposing views, but between a legitimtate view and an illegitimate one.
It's no liberal conspiracy or anything, that's just the way it is.

What this is about is the gravy train. The public-sector unions make money off their members (who are paid from state funds) and from the state funds themselves.
State funds come from where? Yeah, taxpayers.
Now, what do the public-sector unions spend their money on? That's right, the campaign funds of Democratic party candidates.
Unions elect Democrats. Democrats "hire" and "negotiate with" Unions. That is the gravy train that the Democrats are fighting so hard to preserve. That is why there are thousands of protestors in Wisconsin right now, most of whom had never set foot in the state up until a month ago.

There was a movie several years ago about the McCarthy hearings, starring George Clooney as the journalist/media person who "spoke truth to power" at the time, as perceived by the media.
I remember one scene which was kind of scary, but also illuminating. Clooney and his comrades were fulminating about what to do, and someone said something along the lines of "They say we have to show both sides of a story, but sometimes, there aren't two sides. There just aren't."
They have in play a selective moral equivalence that they can use as they need to, depending on what politically correct answer they need to arrive at. If a right winger seethes with anger or does something violent, this is objectively wrong - no shades of grey are permitted. OK, but on the other hand, if a left winger acts or speaks violently, why there are always nuances to consider, and possible justifications.
Kind of scary, because I believe many of them truly do not recognize their own hypocrisy.

As you know, this legislation is designed to finally balance the state budget, prevent layoffs and create jobs in the real world. There are hundreds of thousands of unemployed or underemployed Wisconsinites, and at least 1,500 more whose jobs are in the balance because of your media stunt. We all deserve better than this.
In the meantime, members of your caucus have been meeting with the governorÂ’s staff, talking to the media, trying to find a way back to Madison, and contradicting your message in public. In case you donÂ’t remember, you were present yourself at one of those meetings with the governorÂ’s staff. Your grasp of reality, and control of your caucus as minority leader, continues to amaze me.
As you know, your opportunity to compromise and amend the bill was on the floor of the state Senate. As you know, you forfeited that right and opportunity when you decided to flee the state instead of doing your job.
Your stubbornness in trying to ignore the last election and protect the broken status quo is truly shameful. While we wait for you and your colleagues to finally show up, Senate Republicans continue to stand ready to do the job we were elected to do, here in Wisconsin. An ideal isn't reality based, no matter which side of the political spectrum in comes from -- now, ideals are all well and good (I don't begrudge anybody their ideals, well, except maybe jihadis and serial killers, heh), but the minute people think they can somehow be made manifest on this earth is when there's a problem.
As of now, the one damning thing against liberals (for me) is that they are trying to manifest their ideals into reality with the thought that it can actually happen (and in the process many a well meaning one is getting taken for a ride by the power and money mad on their side; plus the whole bit about power corrupting...that's tripping them up too).
If the shoe was on the other foot, well, don't think it couldn't happen to conservatives as well...people are people, no changing human nature.
