Matt. Damon. Open. Thread. [krak]
— Open Blogger

And now, for a much needed breath of fresh air in this stale old debt crisis story, I bring you:

Matt Damon.
MATT DAMON.
(Matt Damon.)

If you can last more than 45 seconds, you are a bigger moron than I.

More classic MAttdAMoN after the break.

When the seriously undereducated Hollywood douchebags like Sean Penn and Matt Damon express political opinions, they're talking from nothing--and seriously beclown themselves.

31 This is worth dragging up here from the thread below.

Latest goody from Ulsterman's WH "insider":

The one thing that almost everyone did agree with was how “idiotic”, “moronic”, “pathetic”, “self-serving”, “arrogant”, and “scary” President ObamaÂ’s role was during the process.  Those are actual descriptions used against the president, and most of them came from Democrats. Everyone stunned over how little Barack Obama understands about anything.  Told Harry Reid came out of a meeting with Obama over the weekend “visibly shaking” he was so angry at how little the president seemed to care about the process and related details of the agreement, and how flip and dismissive he was toward Senator Reid.  “Just get something for me to sign Harry…”  The primary concern of the Obama White House was the possibility of the debt ceiling issue carrying forward into the 2012 election cycle.  The president and his people made that abundantly clear to anyone who would listen time after time after time.

38 Another goody from Ulsterman's "insider" (and how I wish this could be true):

Many of us are jumping to the other side for this election and it will definitely be my last one.  Sending you a much more detailed update later this week.  Keep on Gunrunner.  It is developing into something far more damaging to the administration than even we initially thought possible.  Oh, and the Corsi stuff that you keep pumping on me.  Guess what?  It was recently brought up by someone once very high up in the administration.  It appears there is in fact something substantial possibly developing on that as well. Significants are working double time keeping it under wraps.  That always means it is legit, and serious.  Remember that scenario well back in the Clinton days.  Not saying IÂ’m jumping into the deep end on that stuff just yet, but might actually owe you that drink after all.  And maybe an apology as well.

56 He thinks he is some mental giant, you can see that come across in that clip. Funny that those that 'think' they're so smart, really aren't.

While I do agree with him on one aspect, *most* people go into teaching because they want to but that doesn't mean they're good at it. Teaching should be like any other real performance-based profession, if you suck it's time to find something you don't suck at. No matter how long you've been teaching, if you do a poor job then you should be gone. Now, I'm all for performance-based pay for teacher to entice them but it has to be tagged to real performance, not some stat the local school-board comes up with.

59 Gotta disagree with you there ATL.  The only performance metrics a local school board should use in determinining teacher proficiency is one decided on locally, whatever that may be.  The state and the feds have no need to be in local schools.  The market will correct eventually.

The Sarah Palin Revolution Will Be Commercialized      LINK

Excerpt:

“The GOP candidate pick revealed by the CafePress Cultural Barometer hasn't even declared her candidacy yet - and that's Sarah Palin,” Marc Cowlin, Director of Marketing for CafePress told HUMAN EVENTS. “Based on our users' designs, it looks like they want to see an Obama vs. Palin match-up in 2012.”

According to Cowlin, Palin-themed merchandise makes up a whopping 65 percent of Obama challenger sales and 34 percent of all 2012 election product sales, which far surpasses all other GOP candidates and potential candidates.

Yeah, Matt Damon is so stupid he caused this recession.

107 @61...Let me clarify because I agree with you, education should be at the local levels but I do believe that some standards from the state level must be in place. Otherwise it will be impossible to have one throat to choke with regards to poor performance within that same state but the elephant in the room is federal money.

Deer Matt,

Here is the linky for the US Treasury. Since you make a shit load more money than I do, you should feel guilt and send them a check.

Or you can send me 25% of the amount you'd send the feds, and we'll call it even. I take small, unmarked, and non-sequential bills.

Thanks!

RE: Matt Damon and Teachers

Teachers who love teaching are GOOD teachers.  They can work with even the most difficult learners because it's the act of helping a struggling student understand a subject that gives them job satisfaction.  For these kinds of teachers, pay and benefits are secondary to the opportunity to have a positive effect on a student's life.  I've known one or two, and was lucky enough to have a few such teachers during my tenure in K-12.

Teachers for whom teaching is just a job are rarely good teachers.  It's not impossible for them to do well in the classroom, but they'll burn out after a few years and by then be so entrenched in the system that there's no getting rid of them.  These are the teachers who won't talk to students during "their break," who are bitter about working with students after school, who are constantly talking about how there's not enough money to buy sufficient supplies, blah, blah, blah.

Now some cases of "not good" teachers are the fault of administration, legalities, and the damn Unions.  Anyone who's ever had a shitty manager knows how much it sucks, and the same goes for teachers who have a shitty principal and/or school board to answer to.  Then you also have the parents, most of whom are fine, but some of whom are too damn overprotective and coddling of their children.  "It's impossible that little Billy got a B on his book report!  It should certainly have been an A!  Fix it right now or I'm going to complain to the Administration!"  Couple this, again, with a crappy Administration that rarely supports its teachers, and you have the makings of a horrible work and learning environment in which teachers have no incentive to practice standard, quality teaching methods, and children have no incentive to learn.

Then there're the legalities.  When a teacher can't chastise a student in class to stop passing notes and pay attention, for fear of being sued for "emotional distress" by the precious darling's dumbass parents, then the world has become a madhouse.  Likewise, when teachers have to risk truly awful verbal and physical abuse with no recourse -- because children always get the benefit of the doubt, even vicious little monsters -- then why should they bother enforcing classroom safety measures?  My co-worker's daughter works in a school in NJ where she has to wear a panic button in case she's attacked in class.  That's ridiculous.  And despite what the lefties say, money is not the answer.

Then there're the unions.  Ah, the precious unions.  The unions that prevent a good math teacher from helping a good shop teacher's students grasp the fundamental math that goes into building an L-frame (true story) because both teachers are union and their contracts won't allow it.  Or the unions that demand more and more pay and more and more benefits for their members, thus bankrupting their school districts and depriving the students of materials, which causes the teachers to demand more money since they have to keep buying paper and pencils for their students, which leads to the whole stupid cycle repeating itself over and over and over again.

Unfortunately, most of the teachers out there today are "not good" teachers, and a fair few of those are outright bad.   Why?  Because the push in schools for at least the last twenty years has been, "When you leave school, become a teacher.  The country always needs more teachers.  Being a teacher is the most important job in the world, because even the smartest rocket scientists in history only learned the wonders of math and science because they were taught by a teacher."  When I was in high school in the early 90's, the posters advertising the benefits of teaching were everywhere.  Especially in NH, home of Christa McAuliffe and her profound words: "I touch the future. I teach."   You have at least a generation of students now who were spoonfed the benefits of a teaching profession -- it's important, it's high demand, it's vital -- coming face to face with the realities -- teaching is hard, the students are lazy, the administration is feckless, and the parents are absent.

"Teaching" has become the college equivalent of a dumping program; all the students who just barely scraped into college because of a bad high school GPA seem to end up in Education (or "General Liberal Arts," which is about as worthless as you can get outside of Women's Studies).  If you think I'm exaggerrating, I urge you to talk to anyone who's taught or taken an "Education" class at the college level in the last ten years.  They'll tell you horror stories.  They might have BEEN the horror story.

A good teacher, like the ones I described in my first paragraph, can overcome all these problems, because a good teacher -- like anyone who's good at their job -- can clearly demonstrate their competence, leadership, and worth, and their enthusiasm will bring even the most listless class out of its stupor.  But a really good teacher is maybe two in twenty.  A moderately good teacher -- one that could be great given a decent principal and an involved parental base who encourage their children to achieve -- will burn out after a brief career and hopefully find another profession.  A poor teacher will burn out but stay in their job, because the union will protect their job and they like the guaranteed paycheck, even if they hate the children.  And a bad teacher won't burn out because a bad teacher was never tuned in in the first place.  A bad teacher hates her students, hates grading, hates the smell of dry erase marker, or is just too bone stupid to be effective, but sticks around because, again, it's a guaranteed paycheck and she gets the summers off.  And thanks again to union rules regarding the removal of "bad" teachers, the truly bad and worthless ones are as impossible to remove as the good ones, with the exception being you want to KEEP the good ones and send the bad ones packing.

In summary: Matt Damon is just another sycophant liberal who thinks all teachers are divine angels who can do no wrong, which proves that he was one of the idiot kids who looked at all the posters in the high school Guidance Counselor's office that praised the teaching profession and thought, "Wow.  Teachers are awesome."  And then he promptly went and found himself another damn career instead.  So he can just shut his piehole and get back to acting in movies that don't interest me.

In a perfect world, Damon's tax accountant and financial advisers would denounce themselves and inform everyone just  how much time, effort and money 'ol Matt spends each year to reduce HIS tax paying footprint.

They might also disclose whether Matt's butt has ever sat in the overstuffed seats found on corporate jets of the sort so presently in disfavor with Matt's hero, Obama.  When was the last time Matt rode coach on United?

126 Hey, Matt,

Let me tell you about selfless public school teachers.

A job opportunity caused us to move to a new state.  We sought out the best school district we could find within a reasonable commuting distance of my new job.  My son started third grade there.  An unmitigated disaster followed.

No homework during the first two weeks of school got my wife and I exchanging worried glances over dinner.  We then learned that in advance of her impending retirement Mrs. Tenure, the third grade teacher, had just been re-assigned to third grade after about twenty years teaching second grade.  It showed.  Third grade instruction, what little of it she bothered with, was essentially a repetition of second grade. Mrs. Tenure just transported her second grade materials to third grade.

Our son reported to us that the class spent most of the typical day just doing easy worksheets killing time until recess or gym as the teacher's time was monopolized by Joey Ritalin, who seemed to lurch between catatonic and out of fuckin' control.  Joey, we later heard through the parent grapevine, was a poster child for every social pathology currently in vogue -- illegitimacy, divorce, alcohol abuse, unemployment, multiple step-parents, etc.

That took us up to Fall break, which in fact began a week before as the custom in the school was to essentially do nothing for the week before any break.  Same was true for Christmas, spring and summer breaks.

So we go to the parent teacher conference -- "we" is my wife and I, which automatically cast my son into the exceedingly tiny minority of two parent households where both parents, a mother and father, were involved in the child's education -- and we explain to Mrs. Tenure some of our concerns.  She listened stoically and replied evenly, "well, I am teaching the curriculum".

Not having any curriculum in her class, but having a seven year old child who  I expected her to teach, I was rather alarmed by this report.  We shared with the teacher examples of the work our son had done in second grade in his former school.  Yes, she agreed, it was quite good. She also agreed that the work he was doing in her third grade was not as good as the work as he had done in second grade.  Beyond allowing that observation Mrs. Tenure could have cared less.

To be fair, the principal was a little better, allowing there was a problem but confessing he was pretty powerless to do anything about it other than to agree it was okay with him if my wife kept our son home a couple of days a month to essentially home school him.

With that, our boy was off to the local Catholic school.  How'd that work out for fourth grade you might wonder?   He had a test on the last day before summer vacation.  The teacher sent the results in the mail.

We're not crazy about paying public school taxes and tuition but what are you going to do? Its the kid's education. You only get one chance to get it right. Luckily we can absorb that though it sure changed the economics of the new job.

But the real cherry on top was driving past the public school one day to see on the sign out front Mrs. Tenure congratulated for being named the "Educator of the Year" at the school.

So, Matt, with all due respect, this country's public school system is boned and you have no frickin' clue what your babbling about. So just STFU and go pretend to be someone else.

What a total brain vegetable he is, NOTHING prevents him from cutting a check to the US TREASURY. NOTHING. BUT has he ? will he? Does he have accountants take every possible tax break for him ? or does he tell them to pay what ever the bottom line is plus X percent. Typical brain dead liberal. This puts him on the NEVER EVER watch his movies again.
