Mayor Bloomberg schedules Saturday night for #OWS crackdown. [Moe Lane]
— Guest Blogger

FredoDem.jpg

Well, that's going to be my guess:

Last week, Bloomberg implied it was only a matter of time before the city tried to put an end to the protests, but offered no hints on when that would be.

"The one thing I can tell you for sure," he said, "is if anybody in the city breaks the law we will arrest them and turn them over the district attorneys."

He said people charged the police a few nights ago, adding, "that is just not something we're going to tolerate, period."

You may have missed said police-charging - it happened the same night as Sarah Palin announcing that she wasn't running for President, and Steve Jobs passing away - but the Occupy Wall Street people certainly didn't, and they were not really what you'd call happy about the fact that the cops un-apologetically used pepper spray and police batons on the would-be Jacobins. Or that the rest of the world more or less shrugged at the news, once the meda got around to reporting it. Or that the entire thing is largely - and accurately - seen as a Democratic party establishment stalking horse. So the Occupy Wall Street people are going to get cranky. I don't expect anything tonight, but I figure that Saturday night is going to be when tempers are going to flare. Mayor Bloomberg made it clear in the interview that he considers these protesters to be parasitical, predatory, petulant, and a lot of other epithets starting with 'P:' once that rather brutally accurate assessment percolates through to the semi-horde congregating outside, we'll be pretty close to a meltdown on the streets. Because if there's one thing that the beautiful and unique snowflakes making up the Occupy Wall Street all have in common*, it's that they hate not being treated like beautiful and unique snowflakes. Rage may not be far behind.

And no, I'm not looking forward to said meltdown. Mostly because the Occupy Wall Street temper tantrum is inconveniencing enough normal people as it is.

This is going to get bad.  Very bad.  Legislators are getting emails talking about how it's "time to kill the wealthy" and we have outspoken liberals on tv talking about "beheading bankers" who won't surrender their wealth to the state.

These guys ALL believe that is an acceptable answer.

11 I would wait until the first decent rainstorm and crack down at that time.  It is easier to crack down in bad weather, move them out, block them from coming back.  Right now the weather has been pretty good in NYC and most of the people there are "fair weather" protesters.

Trouble is, there doesn't appear to be much rain on the horizon for NYC currently.

17 The openly visible radicalization of the Dems is probably not really helpful, but they are going in full force.  This will lead to them being marginalized like Humphrey was in '68 and McGovern in '72. We can't afford a paranoid or a RINO (like Nixon was) to neutralize the building electoral advantage.

26 I finally see all this institutional racism, etc., etc, they are always talking about. If it wasn't for racism and oppression, there is no way all these white people could afford to not work and lay about protesting.
Look at the entitlement they enjoy and expect, while those of darker skin are working. They never would have arrived at that place of racism if they hadn't trod upon the backs of the working class to get there.
Did they mow their lawns growing up?
Did they clean their houses growing up?
Who cleaned their communal bathroom at their dorms?
Who carried out the trash in their dorms?
Who fixed their meals in their dorms?
Who? The underclass they ignore on their way to discussion of critical race theory, that's who.
That is why they are now having problems with sanitation and are having to pay the dark skin folk to join them: They need more of the low-paid sweat labor to prop them up in their indulgence.
They are the plantation masters; they hold the whips; they live a life of luxury thanks to the labor of other, darker people.

Here in Chicago they won't let them have any supplies at all..

On Wednesday morning, Chicago Police alerted protesters they risked fines or arrest if they didn't move their supplies, protesters said. A city ordinance prohibits storing personal property in a public way, and carries a fine of $50 to $250 if broken.

"For the most part, [ the protesters ] have been compliant and cooperative," said Chicago Police spokeswoman Sarah Hamilton. But "they can't store supplies or sleep on the sidewalk."

Protesters moved seven carts of gear to a nearby church but vowed to remain outside the Federal Reserve Bank to protest. "That's their right," Hamilton said.

45 The stench down there is really terrible. I caught a whiff yesterday morning, the first time i noticed a really apparent scent other than just a subtle tinge of sewage in the air. By the afternoon when I walked through Zuccotti Park it was cranked all the way up to 11. If they don't clear it out it's going to become a public health issue, I expect a cholera outbreak in the near future... it's just disgusting. Until the professionals got involved it was just a bunch of harmless kids, but it's gotten much much worse now that the unions and other neer-do-wells have shown up. They have destroyed what was a very nice (privately owned) public space, they are damaging local businesses, are costing millions of dollars in extra police costs, and are a general nuisance... they need to go away.

87 New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg slammed the Occupy Wall Street protesters in his weekly radio show, saying they would have a major impact on city finances — and hurt the workers they are ostensibly trying to help.

What a fucking idiot. Saying they're having a major impact on city finances is just what the mouth breathing hippies want to hear.  In a battle analogy you never let the enemy know that they hit or missed you with the shelling because then they adjust their fire

Bloomberg should have said "it's business as usual on Wall Street, and businesses have reported no problems". That would break the little hippies hearts

89 I remember as a young boy my father would take me down to the French Quarter and drag a young vagrant into a darkened alley, softening him up with a few well-placed blows from the lead sap his father before him had once used on uncooperative prisoners in a Terrebonne Parish jail. "See how he curls up, son? Just like a doodle bug! No, son. Not soccer kicks to the middle back. The kidneys, boy. He'll remember you tomorrow when he fills his toilet with blood." It's one thing for Nancy Pelosi, referred to as the birdbrain of Alcatraz by the great Rush Limbaugh, to embrace them, but the president? I know I shouldn't be surprised, but still.

The timing of this is no accident.....this has all been planned for a long time.

October is a good month for it, because of the milder temps....kids back in school. .....Obama stalled all summer to avoid having to release his 'great idea for creating jobs'.

It was timed to coincide with these 'protesters' on display. .....And yesterday, Obama lays down his threat that if Congress didn't give him more money to throw away, that "they would run them out of town".

This is not a 'protest'.....this is a Mob-in-waiting. ....A show of force. ....A threat.  This is the Thug-in-Chief's way of saying "They're out there. Give me what I want or I will unleash the Kraken".

Arab Spring....Riots in Europe....Bloomberg saying "people without jobs will riot".....Obama pushes his 'Jobs Bill' right as crowds have assembled, ready to riot.

We're being played.

168 Really funny thing is, these assholes won't realize it when they are beaten. All of their lives, there are no Winners or Losers. Just participants. In fact they have come to believe that 'someone' will punish the real winners by sidelining them so that we may all play in a NICE environment where no one gets more talent or has to try harder. To end the strike, give each of them their 'participant' trophy. That way they know the game is over and they "WON" Oh, and Obasma is a Stuttering ClusterF*ck of a Miserable Failure. And affirmative action and NICE policies of liberals are a ClusterF*ck of a Miserable Failure also, but at least most of it is not conducted with great oratorical stuttering.

So Obama supports and Bloomberg condemns. I was already confused way back at "Obama supports"! Maybe he, the Mayor, is trying to win our hearts and minds by expressing our loathing for the unrealistic position of the protests. I worry, like when I am talking to a known liar (who wants to borrow money), whenever an elwinger expresses my feelings accurately. It's getting really creepy now. 202 They can try to remove the protesters but we're not done. This movement is a geniune response to corporate greed and malfeasance

Why aren't they protesting outside the White House?  Bammy bailed out the big, greedy banks he rails against - the same ones who gave historic, massive contributions to his campaign - the same ones who he still seeks campaign contributions from.  Bammy gave huge sums of taxpayer funds to a green company who was destined to fail by everyone's account before the money was given - a company who gave big, bundled contributions to him.  Bammy's DOJ embarked on a program that ended up getting people murdered, including an American citizen.Where, oh, where are the protests at the WH? Go take a shower.

Don't waste your time arguing with a person named "Stanley"? Stanley? I mean who names their kid Stanley anymore?

Naming our son Stanley was Flat Prudence's idea. Her grandfather was named Flat Stanley and she thought it would be nice to carry on the tradition in our family. But the other thing that was passed down through her lineage was the flatness.

Childbirth, even when the baby is only two-dimensions, can be risky for a two-dimensional mother. We read all the books (the one by Edwin Abbott was most informative) but in the end, Prudence died shortly after Stanley was born.

Nowadays, Stanley travels around the world, mainly to schools. The last time he wrote, he said there's a new branch of theoretical mathematics called Solid Geometry. He turned out well. Prudence would be so proud.

218 "179. ... It's getting really creepy now. I don't like bergy being on my side." I feel the same way, Errol. Look, let's recognize that by now everyone's getting their freak on over the OWS-OEW movement, them getting pepper-sprayed, baton-whacked, head-bashed into vehicle grills, arrested, etc - millions for and millions against. But the fact is, even if this started nutball parade of unemployable hippies, it's not gone away, and UPPING the violence NEVER makes it go away ... well, at least not in this country; eventually it works out that way in Iran - but if you think we're about to see thousands of OWS types get shot & hung, that's just not going to happen. What makes these sorts of things grow & keep on growing is martyrs. If Bloomberg keeps up with this strategy, someone'll get killed, maybe quite a few will get killed - remember Kent State: "Four dead in O-Hi-O"* - & then this is going to grow faster & go deeper &, in an ultimate irony, actually take over the narrative from the economy. That is, the respective positions on the economy are going to get socialized into culture war - which is what Obama clearly is counting on. So there's lots of irony here, because if Bloomberg cracks down as Obama cheer leads, a movement that's supposedly about economic injustice is going to turn into the 2012 version of ACORN. The smart thing for Bloomberg to do is to indulge this & laugh at it & turn it into a "be-in", because then it'll stay unfocused & peter out, especially as the weather turns colder. (* If you liked how Kent State worked out, & the rest of 1968, with the assassinations of Bobby Kennedy & King, keep in mind that today the Dems aren't looking at a nomination three-way among Eugene McCarthy the progressive candidate & Bobby Kennedy the kumbaya candidate & Hubert Humphrey the establishment candidate, but instead are going with an incumbent who, as of yesterday, is signalling support for the OWS movement.)
