— Ace Here's how it works:
1. The media pushes a meme. In Bachmann's case, it's that she's crazy and might be sexually strange.
2. They run sexist and sexualizing photos of her. If asked why they have not run similar photos about liberal women they like, they will say "Well this photo reinforces impressions the public has about Bachmman."
3. They hope you do not notice that they were the ones pushing these "impressions" in the first place, later using them to justify their viciousness, and also hope you don't notice that when they say the public has these impressions about Bachmman, they chiefly mean the media itself.
There have been hundreds of embarrassing photos taken of liberals -- it's hard to look presidential with barbecue sauce smeared all over your lips -- but they're never published.
Why?
Because they don't "reinforce an impression" the media wishes to reinforce.
It's always the narrative.
Why doesn't the media note Obama's fifty seven states? Oh, because no one thinks he's dumb.
Um, no one in your newsroom thinks he's dumb. I assure you a lot of people think that President Prompter is a mediocre intelligence, at best. (Where's his transcripts? Why have three colleges collectively put them into a leak-proof lead-lined vault beneath the sea? Because his grades were that good?)
This photo won't hurt Bachmann much. I doubt it will hurt her at all. It's so grossly unfair it says a lot more about the photographer and the media pushing it than it says about Bachmann -- people get that. They know a hatchet-job when they see one.

That reminded me of a goof last week.....My wife asked me where I wanted to eat, to which I replied "at the Y" which was overheard by my 6 year old daughter.
She responded with "Daddy, they don't serve food at the Y." referring to the YMCA that she occasionally attends.

But, Congresswoman Bachmann? Please, for goodness' sake, stay the hell away from eating stuff that will look stupid even if 1) the MSM loved you and all conservatives and 2) you were eating it in the privacy of your own home with not a camera in sight. No, I'm not blaming her for the people who took this and published it being jackasses, but good grief. Think about it - even small, stupid things that shouldn't matter, but do - before you do something in front of a bank of cameras being held by people who mostly hate you and every other conservative.
I hope Ace is right about "people get[ting] that" but I have my doubts about that. Look at what is living in the White House these days. Not a great data point for people "getting it."

They publish bad pictures of a liberal when it is needed to promote another liberal, i.e., the picture of the tired-looking Hillary was published to contrast with teh youthful, energetic Obama.
But yes, if there is a picture of a Republican or conservative to be published, it simply must be the worst posible picture to find.* The fact that Republicans and conservatives do as well as they do says a lot, I think, about the actual popularity of Democrat policies.
*Except Sarah Palin - I think it is impossible to get a truly awful photograph of her that hasn't been so obviously photoshopped that it sends the publication immediately to Newsweek category.

See, there is no money in disseminating information. News makes its money by selling ads. The more eyeballs you attract to your outlet, the more you can charge for ads. I will imagine that the ad space on the page of the website with that picture goes for a pretty penny.
What *should* have happened is that it should have been ignored but instead, all the right-wing outlets started howling about it which probably created a stampede of traffic to look at it. That is exactly what the outlet was counting on. Sites like this one and Hot Air probably drove a lot of traffic to that picture, if not directly, then indirectly.
Just ignore stuff like this.

Conservatives need to deal with the media problem. Our ideas don't get a fair shake because the media promotes big government liberalism covertly and overtly. The public laps it up and yet still, the nation does self identifies overwhelmingly as conservative (or not liberal).
If this misinformation were put to an end, and the truth told, the liberal progressive movement would be put to death by voters.
Instead, the media dupes the public, demonizes conservative policies and people, and promotes the failed policies of big government.
We need a long term plan to infiltrate and populate the media with unbiased journalists.

No. Nothing she could have done in that situation would have been "right" and refusing to eat Carnival food (or Fair food- whichever) would have been worse, because it actually would have smacked of elitism. Carnival/Fair food is food that you're going to look dumb eating- whether it's an Elephant Ear (which I'd never seen until my wife took me to a carnival in MI) or Funnel Cake, or a corn-dog, or whatever: you'll either look dumb as you eat it (most people do) or you'll have powdered sugar, or some kind of sauce, or something all over your face when you're done. Possibly both. So the only way to avoid those things would have been to eat food specially brought in. Not exactly the populist message a presidential candidate wants to spread.
Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) at August 15, 2011 11:41 AM (8y9MW)
Why wouldn't he? Perry and Romney are the only two legitimate candidates left who have a hope in hell. We have two choices with which to beat Obama, period. Wishing otherwise doesn't change that.
Bachmann's campaign was a vanity run from the beginning. That a substantial minority of GOP voters are too naive, shortsighted or foolish to recognize that doesn't change the fact that she's not a serious or electable candidate.

There's really no taboo when it comes to the Left destroying or belittling women. Even liberal women get this "aw, isn't that cute" treatment.
But I have noticed that if a woman doesn't like a female candidate, she HATES, HATES, HATES them.

A lot of this started with WND (shocked?) saying that there were nefarious plans to turn I-35 into a North American superhighway with the implications of some sort of North American Union and...something. Like the real problem was Mexican trucks getting access to Manitoba.
They never really said what the problem with improving I-35 was. In fact, a well-maintained highway coming out of Mexico would focus traffic in one area and make it easier to monitor, I would think.
Then Perry proposed the TransTexas Corridor and it got muddled with it, but I think the rational opposition was that it would be a toll road.
The two "issues" eventually got muddled among those on the right who hate Perry and so that's where you're at now.

I've said it before. The idea isn't really unconservative. It's politically bad.
Given the proposition: We need better throughput from the south to the north (TTC would have predominately run from Houston north, not right from the border, IIRC), there are only limited ways we can do that. TTC was as good as any other. Politically, it was bad because he wanted to use Toll Roads (something Texas kind of has to do for a variety of reasons) and he wanted them to be private toll roads operated by private companies (and most of the companies that do such things are, indeed, foreign).
Now, you can disagree with the idea that we need better throughput north and south through Texas, but if you agree with it, your options are fairly limited.
I'm not sure how "eminent domain" became an issue with that: again, with the given of "We need a better transportation trunk" you've got to get that land some way, and (if people won't sell) that's a major part of why eminent domain exists.

As someone who regularly drive IH35 through downtown Austin, I can tell you that building a by-pass would be great.
Unfortunately, the TTC was broken down into pieces of toll roads, and the bypass of downtown Austin is too expensive for the truckers to use.
In short, the TTC was an excellent idea on paper, but was executed poorly.

This is where I love liberal inconsistency. Private toll roads = bad. Private red light cameras = the most awesome thing evar.

My reasons for opposing TTC were much more Conservative (read: selfish) it would have used I-45 predominately (instead of I-35) and would have skirted around DFW. I like all of those truckers being forced to go through DFW and buy stuff here.

Hubby has nominated me for Mom of the Year.
I try to keep my mouth under control around the GF's kids, but it doesn't always work.
Thankfully, the GF's oldest usually picks up stuff from the DVD player and not me.
You don't realize some of the crap that is in children's programming until you hear it enough times, like Yogi Bear suggesting the ranger take a leak on the attractive naturalist to "mark his territory" in the live-action Yogi movie or someone on the first episode of Punky Brewster talking about a possible "sex maniac" hiding out in an abandoned apartment.

I recall a story where he was in Philadelphia and somebody thought it would be a good idea to have him ordering and eating a cheesesteak from one of the famous places there. Most of these places use some canned velveeta-like crap. Supposedly he saw this and asked for provolone cheese.
He asked for Swiss, not Provolone. He ended up with a cheesteak hoagie (lettuce and tomatoes) and cheeze whiz...not a good starter for an elitist like Lurch.
We natives don't use the nasty Cheeze Whiz, that's for the tourists. I don't even know when that trend started.....gimme an American or Provolone wit anytime.

Basically it was Perry trying to come up with an innovative solution that ended up pissing everyone off. We need another NS highway system in Texas, but no one is willing to sacrifice anything to get it. Instead, we just all muddle along up 35 and bitch about how horrible the traffic is.
Of course, they did build a small section of the toll rode between just south of Austin and just North of Georgetown. It's heavenly.

I have come to the point where I despise imminent domain since Kelo. It has become the most abused law on the books. I saw a thing on Fox a few weeks ago where NY was taking some guys beach front property and only paying him something like a couple of thousand dollars for it.
This was beach front property on Long Island! Hell, you couldn't get beach front property in SC for less than million dollars per 50 ft.

Problem with the Trans Texas Corridor.... for moi?
Using Emminent Domain to seize property, to then give it to a company to build a TOLL ROAD?
Public Highways? I have no problem using Em Dom for... but using it to seize land which is then used for a profit by someone else? I do have a problem with...
Note... the Kelo house... is empty... still....

I don't know what the plan was, but a toll road is usually owned by the state and operations are contracted out to private companies.
Posted by: AmishDude at August 15, 2011 12:39 PM (T0NGe)
The State is prohibited from making a profit from acquired ROW. So, if you're gonna build a toll road, a private entity has to run it.
Also remember, said private entity was also going to pay for all maintenance and upkeep and then return the road to the state in 50 years, at which point it would no longer be a toll road.
Further, a basic understanding of how condemnation and ED works would be useful.

Yep. They have one play. The 'unstable' if male, and 'sexually repressed and crazy' if female
The media and the Obama campaign used this thing since Mccain. Remember during the '08 run when all the lefty's kept saying things like 'there's something wrong with Mccain.. he's got a strange temper or something. He gets mad and stuff. Creepy"
I heard moby calling talk shows bringing this up constantly while saying they studied Obamas economic plan and think he's got the right plan for America.. speaking as an ultra-conservative christian of course.
Then from Politico last week, the new Obama strategy is to make Romney look "weird.. like somethings not right with him. strange"
What the hell is wrong with these idiots? I HATE them

yes, we build roads in Texas... and a lot are toll-roads... and we are building miles upon miles of them so that people can immigrate from the other 49 states to fill the jobs we are creating here. And yes, we have in dramatically increased the debt of the State of Texas. However this debt are 'revenue bond' secured directly by highways and universities which are being built, and not general obligations of the State of Texas. (prior administrations could not issue highway bonds)
The TTC, was a bit overly ambitious, and Rick Perry 'got ahead of the parade' on that one too, but like Rick Perry said, the money would not have come out of the pockets of everyday Americans or Texans....

But Texas is the corridor from Mexico, and it's made our roads overcrowded, and it's pretty unfair for Texan taxpayers to pay for trade between illinois and Mexico. Let the trucks pay a toll.
One thing Texas needs badly is more highway.

Yes it does, every day you use them. I hate toll roads. Where the hell is all the gas tax money going to?
They won't even let TxDot build a regular road near a toll road because it's competition, so you are forced into using them in many areas. In Austin, they were able to co-op public roads built on the tax payer dime for toll roads. I hate toll roads and I dislike Perry especially because of it.
