— Ace Here's a possible conspiracy theory: Did Zawahiri give up bin Ladin? It's speculation from a Saudi newspaper.
Not sure the potential psyops value of that. These guys don't seem to believe even in the most basic stuff -- UBL's responsibility for 9/11, the non-hornedness of Jews, the immorality of murder, bathing, vaginal sex -- so I think any attempt by us to be clever is doomed by their basic stupidity.
When you think about it, cleverness is only a useful tactic on the clever or at least semi-clever. Usually psyops and deceptions rely on the target to make deductions and inferences themselves, so it feels, to the target, like he thought of it (and therefore buys into it, because everyone likes their own ideas, even if they're not their own ideas).
Stupidity and ignorance is a perfect defense against such ploys. You can lead a horse to water, but if the horse is too stupid to understand the connection between water and survival, the horse won't drink.
Because it's stupid.
On the other hand, I guess this particular story has no need of deduction. The story goes, flatly, "Zawahiri sold out your hero."
But they believe what gives them pleasure or validation to believe, and believing in Al Qaeda, and its new head Zawahiri, gives them pleasure and validation. So I think they'll just reject this out of hand.

Then there's this story. From NightWatch.
Pakistani security forces will launch a massive search operation in Quetta and tribal areas of North Waziristan to capture Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar or al Qaida senior leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, according to top government sources in Islamabad, The News reported on 5 May. According to the sources, Islamabad wants to make sure neither Mullah Omar nor al-Zawahiri are hiding in Pakistan and if they are, to capture them before the United States can embarrass Pakistan again.

There was always a struggle for who would control Al Qaeda. If you have read much about Osama Bin Ladin, what comes across is what a simple minded (but evil) twit he actually was, but a simple twit with a lot of money from his father's construction business. Zawahiri was always much "angrier" and wanted more violence. It was always a battle within Al Qaeda to influence Bin Ladin.
Find them, fix them. kill them. A world in which their ideas would become manifest would be a nightmare. The fact that a lot of ignorant Arab Muslims believe Osama was their hero is reason enough to shun them and keep them out of the West in general and America in particular. They can't be reasoned with, persuaded, or discouraged in their attempts to wreak havoc and violence, and it has been primarily against other Muslims.

I am rapidly approaching the conclusion that the Obama administration is incapable of any subterfuge or cleverness, and simply botched the aftermath of the SEAL's wonderful operation -- all in the interest of political expediency. I think that they are more like the horse than the one leading the horse.
They have their roots in the Chicago political machine. But that isn't subtle politics; it is heavy-handed power politics that relies on good old blackmail and arm twisting and stealing of votes, etc. They simply don't have the intellectual capacity to do anything clever!

Agreed. This thought, that Zawahiri betrayed UBL, had popped into my head, but then I figured if Zawahiri wanted to get rid of UBL, he would have disposed of him quietly, put him in an unmarked grave, and continued to use his likeness for propaganda videos.
This would have taken some pressure off Zawahiri and effectively immortalized bin Laden.

Yeah, looking at all the wonderful contributions to modern life that have come from Arabs in the past millenium or so, it's clear they're about as smart as a box of rocks. Easily led, particularly easy to brainwash, can't control their animalistic urges (although the livestock don't seem to mind), prone to violence at the drop of a rag, they value death over life, what a great culture!
The best thing that could happen to them would be some good, old-fashioned, iron-fisted colonialism again. Then maybe they wouldn't be a menace to themselves and the rest of the world.

I took my youngest, who is eight, and my wife raised some questions about whether he should be going to a PG-13 movie. After watching it I honestly can't say why this film doesn't have a G rating, unless maybe it's because the MPAA think children are stupid and will go out and hit people with a hammer after seeing it.

Fox has found a new RINO to push off on us. I guess they see Romney as already tanking.
Huntsman Inches Toward White House Bid
Huntsman, a conservative who has taken moderate positions on environmental issues and came out in support of same-sex civil unions, is among several Republicans still weighing bids as the GOP field takes shape at a much slower pace than in past campaigns. Huntsman's advisers say parts of his record could appeal to conservatives, moderates and independents alike.
Yeah, sounds real conservative. At the "On The Issues" site he is almost totally listed as "no record" but they place him square in the middle of "moderate".
I trust everyone knows what "moderate" means. If you don't know as related to the "on the issues" site here's this: Olympia Snowe is rated to the right of Huntsman.

This came fror a Saudi newspaper. I'm sure the Saudis are looking at us whacking UBL as an opportunity to be washed clean of the AQ taint. What better way than to say "bin Ladin wasn't in control. He was forced out by those damn Egyptians. Go bother them. AQ is an Egyptian creature now, not Saudi. Leave us alone."
I don't put a lot of credence in this story. I think it's just a way to distance the Kingdom for AQ. It's a little too cute.

Sorry. Hit post before I was finished.
The reason I ask is that it is having a huge negative effect, at least with the guys they serve with.
Now that the WH has released all of this intel, it just 'supports' this theory in their minds.
They have already been demoralized with the ROE, but this is hitting them harder (from what I have heard).
Just like yesterday, hours before we droned Northern Paki., some Senators were giving interviews saying we know they are in Northern Paki.
In their eyes, the WH is warning these thug terrorist whose on existence is to kill our people and our soldiers.
The quote I remember is: 'We see ROEs as politics. We see this as personal.'
Um, that isn't good.

I found the speech that George W. Bush gave in 2003 after Saddam Hussein was captured. Not once, not one damned time does he take any credit for the capture. He gives 100% of the credit to the military and intelligence agencies, even though he declared the war and ran it with his policies. Contrast this with Obama who did nothing to cause the capture of Bin Laden but emphasizes HIS judgement, HIS decision, HE signed the order. What a cocksock.

Well that's true enough. I remember the shock I felt when we first moved to Chicago after having grown up outside D.C. where everyone was plugged into national and international politics. The political machinery there over shit like the parks department was so foreign to me. I really hated it for the first few years, then learned to ignore it. I assume it's kind of the same in most big metro areas on some level, but Chicago seems to have elevated it to an art.

I agree completely that inception will not work with these guys. They are just too bizarre to mess with in "smart" ways. But, it would be great to get inside of their loop just a little bit and freak them out some.
Having spent time around a group of arab males, I can say with some authority the only thing that will get their attention and respect is blood.
Theirs.
The arab mindset is extremely rigid in ideology. Their beliefs are honored above reality. They look down upon Western values (and Westerners in general) because they truly believe themselves superior due to the age of their culture, as if a long, rich history of violence is something to be proud of.
They are destroyers, not builders. They rape and pillage instead of contributing to their quality of life, as has been noted by more than one historian. Such strongly ingrained cultural mores are only defeated once you recognize what they value - strength. If we don't have it or show it, then they feel quite justified in exercising their superiority over us. The weaker we are (or seem to be), the more attacks we invite.
All this is why I strongly advocate a take-no-prisoners approach to the WOT. Knowing them as I do, the only way to keep six-year-old children from being molested at airports is to start *ahem* cleaning out Gitmo and making a public show of it, the rest of the world be damned. Let them condemn us, they can deal with their own terror attacks their way. If they want to coddle those rabid animals, go ahead. We should fix ourselves to stopping them at all costs by whatever means necessary with extreme prejudice.

I looked into Huntsman when his name first came up. I'm a pragmatist at heart and didn't find his ambassadorship under Obama to be disqualifying in and of itself. Anyhoo, he has a reputation around here, which he seems to have truly earned, of throwing aside campaign promises and positions when the chips are down. He drew a lot of fire for walking back on his commitment to school vouchers, for one thing. And he signed UT up for a regional carbon credit consortium, which I gather was pretty unpopular.
The folks I've spoken with about him are more concerned about his character than his level of conservatism.
I do find it odd that everyone in the media keeps acting like endorsing civil unions is some kind of left field position for a Republican, however. I thought even back in 2008 the polls indicated that most Republicans were ok with civil unions or some version thereof. It's simply that most (I think) of us are opposed to gay marriage.

I know that you guys wanted to interpret what I posted the way you wanted to interpret it. Sheesh I've heard a lot of the news folks that you think are credible say exactly what I was saying in the last couple of days. Then when I brought it up, you said "true conservatives form their own opinions and don't need authorities to back them up" (not you in particular, a couple of posters, and that's not a direct quote) And it had nothing to do with "moral authority". If you didn't grow up in NY, you might not understand the feeling of genuine, born and bred NYer's. Probably the pentagon area folks and the folks in PA and everyone who lost someone on the plains, have similar feelings. I've been around this country. People have forgotten. The fact that teenagers were googling "who is OBL" means the country has forgotten. I'm sorry you disagree with me but it's my opinion. This "moral authority" stuff I'm not so sure how you got that stuff.
I really think that the republican party, as it is has to change, and that some of you are feeling this and are a little on the defensive about it. Cause it seems the "tea party" which really isn't a party at all, will grab a lot of folks who might have gone over to the republicans. they'll become "independents" like me and then move towards vetted tea party candidates. this is the only thing I can think of as to why you are all so old and grouchy when I really haven't said anything offensive.
I hate blonds, they already are fake, they've dyed their darker hair to what, attract men. Brunettes attract men with their brains.

Two Savannah families I know of lost loved ones in the towers. And two first responders from here left as the towers were falling with their cadaver dog. After two weeks on the pile, the dog fell and was severely injured. Savannah restaurateurs closed down and went to NYC to feed the workers.

And now the release of vids and tapes.

But, you when you post, give me the courage to start challenging them and I get clues from your posts how to go about it. Right now I have a lot of people who are starting to think GWB might have done the right thing with the interrogation and they are horrified about the holder thing and the seals so I thought "wow, I'm making some progress". One of my friends even sent an email to the president about holder and the seals which I thought was an amazing accomplishment. He did it after I sent him ace's post about debra.

I thought I tried to help you before when you were wondering why people kept getting upset with you. Do you remember? I tried to explain that the way you write your post comes out more like a 1 on 1 conversation where people can see your facial expressions, hand gestures, etc. They know what you are saying but seeing your body language. Because you can't see that on the internet, your word choice and lang. has to be concise.
Ex.
You can say 'I hate blondes' to a person and they will laugh if in fact, you are a blond.
But if you typed it into a comment, people would take offense because they can't see you are joking (because they don't know you're a blonde).

Speaking of "ignorance and stupidity", I've been hearing on the radio today about our upcoming debate for our open congressional seat (remember that stupid embarrassment with Chris Lee, in Western NY?)
The people on here have described this seat as "safe", might want to listen up. It is a 3-way race, and the last poll I saw (not too recently) was that the Republican is ahead, but not by a huge margin, and with something like thirty-something percent of the vote.
The "ignorant and stupid" part is how they have described the 3rd party candidate as a "Tea Party" candidate for the upcoming debate. This is the guy who usually runs as the sacrificial Democrat in our congressional race, and whose only issue is always government intervention to keep jobs from leaving the country! He adds never say a damn thing about cutting govt spending, or govt being to big and intrusive in any way, whatsoever.

In the end all they got me for was milage because I didn't keep track of it in my daytimer. I just guessed at work and personal from the total.

Posted by: robtr at May 07, 2011 09:16 AM (MtwBb)
I think the dems are hoping to do that constantly. Call any 3rd party candidate running in close races as a Tea Party candidate even when they obviously aren't. Hoping to draw off the less informed voters about the guy's actual views and give the Dem a better chance of winning. And the media of course is very willing to help this along.

Curious, all I can say is that if you don't get a thicker skin you're not going to last long at any place you crash.
You were completely full of shit about the bin Laden pics and the reasons you gave for opposing the release were condescending, provincial, insulting, and just flat-out stupid.
But I would have far more respect for a simple "Fuck you, this is what I believe" from you in response to the well-deserved bashing you're getting, than these repeated, drawn-out paragraphs whining about how everyone was mean to you and it's so unfair and you need to go camp out some other place.
If you feel that strongly about a matter then FUCK what other people think. But learn to gird your loins and take angry blowback with a smile, because if you're going to call people "whiny bitches" for wanting to see the head of one of the most notorious mass murderers in human history then that's exactly what you're going to get.
Posted by: The War Between the Undead States at May 07, 2011 11:10 AM (lBZXI)
That certainly makes sense. I guess it's in the playbook, right next to calling them "extremists". Although, now that I've written that, it's ironic that they would impersonate people who they are calling "extreme". Boy, hypocrisy is really their favorite sport these days, isn't it?
It's a funny situation because our radio station that airs conservative talk radio almost all day long is apparently owned by the MSM. All the newsbreaks have an obvious leftist bias to them, and they even aired the Katie Couric "Notebook" segments, each one of which is pretty transparently socialist propaganda.
Posted by: Optimizer at May 07, 2011 11:20 AM (F56VB)
@245
I missed that whole episode, but I can only assume that on some issues I, myself, have said my peace and undoubtedly really, really pissed of many "morons".
Having set up that context, I couldn't agree with The War Between the Unded States more. Whining about people being mean to you is pathetic. State your case. Defend it with facts and arguments.
And to go further, I'd say appreciate the opportunity. A lot of forums - especially the fascist lefties (He Who I Will Not Name comes to mind!) - would delete your comments and throw you out on your kiester.
I am always struck by how my libtard brother will spew leftist nonsense, and when he is challenged he simply resorts to robotic namecalling, and nasty notes under the radar (where it won't see the light of day). He is proud to call himself an elitist, and thinks himself an intellectual, but will not even engage in debate, and is sometimes even cowardly enough to resort to censorship, himself.
Posted by: Optimizer at May 07, 2011 11:38 AM (F56VB)
247 ... That station might get its news from the CBS news desk? ...
Probably. I'm not up on who owns the station, but on a related point the Buffalo News is quite literally owned by Warren Buffett, who was quite literally on Obama's election team. Interestingly, I never hear any mention of that, and I don't remember ever seeing any "full disclosure" kinds of statements in any news stories.
