— Dave in Texas He wants to cut your babies in half with a cutlass. Not an Oldsmobile cutlass. A freaking cutlass!

Look, it pains me, as a Texas Longhorn fan, to go into this crap. I've been pickin on Aggies for the better part of 30 years.
But for the greater good.. Rick Perry is a graduate of Texas A&M University. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He was a yell leader, their version of a manly cheerleading guy (bear with me Aggies, correct on the finer points later, and shut up already I got it).
Texas A&M produced thousands of officers, and even more enlisted service men and women. It was and is a military prep college. They have a few traditions, like all military prep colleges, including a photo with a uniform they earned, a sabre and some shiny boots. They shined em themselves, they know how.
These are good things. It's a fine tradition. In WWI, an entire senior class of A&M seniors withdrew from school to fight for our country.
Hell, I work with a ton of Aggies who served, and they're all pretty decent men and women who can take a joke even.
So please forgive me, if this pic, of a young man who graduated from A&M, received a commission and served in the United States Air Force, piloted C-130s, well golly he actually posed with his college Reserve Officer Training Corps regalia, and by the way served the nation honorably in our armed forces.
There's no baby corpse under that sabre. (see what I did there, corpse? hahahaha I kill myself).
Lighten up Francis. It's not the big deal your mainstream media mommy wants to make of it.

Our daughter is a civil engineering major there and has a 3.5 gpa
A Japanese engineer we were working with on our recent Toyota Denso project
saw the A&M sticker on the car window and asked if I went there I said "No, my daughter is an engineering major there." He was very impressed and said it was one of the best in the world. A Japanese engineer who went to U of Tokyo and Stanford said A&M was one of the best... IN THE WORLD.

A couple miles down the road is a State Trooper so he pulls over and asks what he should do with this lost pig.
The Trooper says sarcastically "Why don't you take him to the zoo"
The Aggie says thank you and drives off
Two weeks later the Trooper sees the Aggie driving and the pig is still in the car so he pulls him over
"I thought I told you to take that pig to the zoo boy!"
"I did and he liked it so much, we're going to Sea World"

Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) and Virginia Military Institute (VPI) are both in Virginia. That is where the similarity ends.
As a former member, as were my father and brother, of the VTCC (VPI's Corps of Cadets), we said the difference was VMI was a military college with an Engineering Department, while VPI was an Engineering College with a Military Department.
VPI has become more like A&M over the years. I really don't know if the EEOC screwed over VMI like they did the Citadel.
In any event, I am more than ready to vote for someone that actually served in the Armed Forces of this country, and having someone that went through a Cadet Corps experience is an added bonus.

I looked up the History of VMI and they lost their case (after the Cidadel). The Supremes ruled that if a college accepted public financing they had to admit women.
VMI then investigated going private bu the Pentagon then threatened to withdraw "commission" status for their graduates if they did that. Congress passed a law that told the pentagon to pound sand on that score but by then the VMI board had already voted to accept women.

As long as Rick Perry did not go to Harvard with Barky and hang with domestic terrorists likey Ayles he is fine with me. Mighty fine, as a matter of fact.
Another interesting fact about Perry's college years, from Wikipedia, in addition to him being an Air Force pilot (which totally rocks compared to Barry's....what did Barry do, anyway?), he knew how to rig up firecrackers in toilets to "surprise" other students. For that alone he would get my vote.

Graduates of the military colleges (West Point, Annapolis, AFA, VMI and The Citadel, Texas A&M) don't see themselves in the same light as graduates of what they call "civilian colleges." They have undergone an experience, discipline, that is the opposite of the what has come down to the modern ethos of the college experience, partying. Except maybe shoe shine parties, sweat parties and blanket parties.
All of these schools have traditions that would seem wierd to the outsider.
All of the Aggies I've ever worked with have been head and shoulders above the Ivy types. Their devotion to duty and integrity always comes through.

We have a pathway to citizenship in this country today: itÂ’s get in the line and do what it takes to get here legally. You cannot have a comprehensive discussion about immigration reform until you secure the border. IÂ’ve got a 1,200 mile border with Mexico and itÂ’s not secure. We have American citizens being killed, we have drugs coming across, we have illegal immigrations and all types of other human trafficking going on. Our border is not secure because our federal government has been an abject failure at it.
HereÂ’s what everyone should agree on: get the border secure, then we can have a conversation about what type immigration policy we want to put in place. If thereÂ’s a revolving door at the border, your immigration policy is not worth the paper itÂ’s written on.

From the interview posted yesterday:
You mentioned border security, earlier. You’re the governor of a border state and have been for some time. As you write in the book, Ronald Reagan signed a bill in 1986 trying to reform immigration that didn’t work out—the borders security provisions weren’t enforced—then President George W. Bush tried again and could get it through Congress because “people had been to that rodeo before.” Is there a possible path to pursued in two parts: first, a measure that establishes stricter border security and then, and only then, a later measure that provides a pathway to citizenship for the millions of immigrants who are here illegally? A one-two punch.
I think everyone can agree on that, but...
HereÂ’s what everyone should agree on: get the border secure, then we can have a conversation about what type immigration policy we want to put in place. If thereÂ’s a revolving door at the border, your immigration policy is not worth the paper itÂ’s written on.
But just to be clear: if border security is accomplished, you can envision some sort of path to citizenship for people who are here illegally.
Sure.
To me it sounds like seal up the border, then we'll talk. Good enough for me

I would give Perry a solid B on immigration. I wish he was an A+, but I can live with a B. (My own governor is probably only a B- on this issue, even though he is a terrific governor in most respects.)
I think it's a regional thing (Arizona notwithstanding) that, as you say, there's a certain amount of "nuance" applied on these issues because of their demographics. He signed the regional tuition waiver bill when he first got into office - not great, but he inherited that situation. He said he thought some aspects of Arizona's law would not work in Texas - that's fine as far as I'm concerned, especially coming from a governor of another state. And he uttered the "path to citizenship" platitude - meaningless statement.
I've lived in a lot of places (MD, VT, IL, MA, TX, IN, CA, UT) and as I moved to places with a lot of illegals, I did find that the solutions I thought were possible when living elsewhere were going to be harder to apply than I had thought.
The "path to citizenship" phrase is so devoid of specificity as to be meaningless. I'm pretty sure all of the major candidates (or possible candidates, including Palin) have uttered that phrase in some form or another.

'To me it sounds like seal up the border, then we'll talk. Good enough for me."
Amnesty would be a disaster for the country whether the border was sealed or not- it would mean tens of millions of new Democrat voters, since once the 12 million are citizens they would have right to bring in their family members from Mexico.
Fortunately tho, thereÂ’s actually no need to worry about a President Perry pushing amnesty after the border is secure, because there is zero chance that Perry, who opposes both the fence and E-Verify, would ever secure the border. But Perry talking about the possibility of an amnesty will encourage illegals to keep coming here.

An Air Force General is being briefed one morning at a base that he is visiting. The four briefers, all captains, happen to be graduates of a military school.
After the briefings are over the general turn to the first captain and says: "You're a graduate of the Air Force Academy aren't you?"
The captain replies, "Yes sir, I am. May I ask how you could tell?"
The general says, "I could tell by your in-depth knowledge of Air Force systems and doctrine."
The general turns to the second briefer and says, "And you went to VMI, didn't you?"
The second briefer replies, "Yes sir, I did. May I ask how you could tell?"
The general answers, "Your firm grasp of military strategy, which is a tell for distinguishing a Keydet."
Then the general turns to the third briefer, "And you are the product of The Citadel, aren't you."
The third briefer responds, "That is correct sir. May I inquire as to the indications that led to your accurate conclusion?"
The general tell the third briefer, "I have always noticed that impeccable bearing and poise are the mark of a Citadel Man."
Then the general turns to the last briefer and says, "You went to Texas A&M, didn't you?"
The fourth captain beams, puffs out his chest and replies, "Yes sir, I did. How could you tell?"
"I saw your school ring while you were picking your nose"

Totally in agreement with providing tight border security. As mentioned before, I want to hear a candidate state unequivocably that he/she will enforce EXISTING immigration laws STRINGENTLY. Something we have the means to do, but lack the will to do. Haven't heard that from either Palin or Perry, to date.
One other thing--I think it's time to look at the naturalization process from the standpoint of is it stringent enough, or too much so from an exclusionary view. Never have seen any consideration of this, but maybe I missed it.

SPRING HILL, Tenn. – Police in Spring Hill arrested a local music teacher Thursday morning after he was caught engaging in a sex act with a doll outside a local elementary school.
Officers were called to Allendale Elementary School on Prescott Way in Spring Hill amid reports of a white male with a duffle bag under a bridge on school property. The bridge provides access to the school from the main road.
Spring Hill police told Nashville's News 2 the responding officer witnessed the man, identified as 56-year-old Daniel Torroll, performing sex acts on a child-like doll police later discovered he'd cut holes into.
The officer reported the man was naked and in a location where he could be seen by people driving up to the school.

From the long interview with the Daily Beast
But just to be clear: if border security is accomplished, you can envision some sort of path to citizenship for people who are here illegally.
Sure.
Not sure what to make of that statement. If you take the entire Q&A in context he implies that there already is a program in place for citizenship but because the border is wide open it is a meaningless program.
Posted by: Vic at August 13, 2011 05:44 AM (M9Ie6)
Just to be clear, she is not my candidate, but I do not think she's an open borders person. I am linking this to show that the "path to citizenship" thing is so widely used as to be meaningless.
Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska?
I don't know, I don't know. That's a good question.
As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?
There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal
immigrant -there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants- not
only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane
way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.
Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?
No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got
to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to
make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally
should be first in line for services being provided and those
opportunities that this great country provides.
To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To
seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is
here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that
people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

With the rise in prominence of Governor Rick Perry as the likely GOP pick for the Presidential nomination, several animal rights organizations, prominent among them Save the Coyotes, have called on their followers to demonstrate at Governor Perry's rallies.
Spokesperson Travis Goodfellow of Save the Coyotes said "sure killing babies is a serious issue, but in the aggregate the death of another Coyote at the hands of a murderous Governor Perry is a step too far." Goodfellow pointed out that Governor Perry kills Coyotes with a gun, and that babies, thus far had only been killed with a sword.

Until the interview, everything i've heard about his stance on the border and immigration came from the comments here. It sounds like Texas is in a hard spot and a politician has to walk carefully there on those issues. But it still seems clear that Perry wants some fed enforcement of the border to keep the killers to our south. It just so happens that anything that would keep those unwanted out, would also help keep the illegal immigrants out, or slow down how easy they cross. I'd be very happy with the moat and alligator plan, but maybe throw in some skynet drones too. Does Perry support anything like this? I don't know. For those who keep saying that he doesn't even want the fence, link please? If its so very obvious hes to the left of McCain on this, there should be lots of evidence that i'd like to look at.
He also had this line, "We have a pathway to citizenship in this country today: itÂ’s get in the line and do what it takes to get here legally." Even if this was just lipservice, it was a nice change to actually hear a politician say that.

Rick Perry must have a lot of people freaked out with the ammo deflecting off his kevlar.
The talking points Kay Bailey Hutchinson and others fired at him: the HPV vaccine, amnesty, highway, blah, blah worked well in that last election for governor of Texas. Even with the Bush machine behind her she could not beat Perry, but his enemies are trotting out the same talking points which don't ruffle a hair on his head.
Re: illegal immigration...this is 2011 not 2008. The economy sucks and many Mexicans have deported themselves back to their casas as the economy is better than ours. I don't see as many illegals here in my section of Florida, anyway. But then, I live with a moat of alligators surrounding me, so whatever.
Rick Perry states he wants to put National Guard at the border and have drones. This is an issue that is important to me for national security. People have said for ten years to seal the border FIRST then deal with the issue later. No, I do not like the DREAM Act. No, I do not like illegals taking jobs from the working poor. No, no, no I do not want another welfare state. NO I do not want illegals to bog down Social Security. What Rick Perry said, in the past, for Texas may not be what he will say for the nation we have now. I hope he will have the illegals, the ones who are not deported as they are in gangs or felons, get in line for citizenship (required to speak English, etc.). The barn door is open and we need to close it (the border) with military force first. The imaginary fence Obama built is not working. Less illegals, less drugs into country= less crime and less fear for the non-Mexican (aka Middle Eastern terrorists) coming over the border, which has gone on for a decade. Seal the damn border.
Perry is strong on state's rights. He is strong on gun rights. He is a Christian who believes what he says. He is a straight shooter, as proven when he shot a coyote while jogging, and he will knock Obama down off his politically correct throne. Perry will be strong on the military as he is a former Air Force pilot. He believes in the Constitution. He believes in smaller government, no increased taxes, oil production, JOBS. He is a conservative. I don't care if he was a Democrat. I don't care what rocks anyone throws, he is going to win.
Huckabee is jealous to whine and snarl about Perry on teevee. The White House and the Republican Party will attack him. Other candidates will attack him. The MSM will spin against any threat to Obama. Perry knows this and he does not care. Bring it on.

If asylum seekers lose out, that's
fucking tough. The American government's only task is serving the

The asylum law has been abused so badly that it needs to be permanently revoked. We do indeed need some comprehensive immigration reform, but not what McCain-Kennedy wanted.
We need immigration law that does the following AND that
is enforced:
1. Eliminate the BS anchor baby interpretation by providing a definition of
what the term “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” means, which is not
dashing across the border to deliver a baby.
Personally, I would require that at least one of the parents of any
child born in the U.S. be a citizen before that child was eligible for
“birthright” citizenship. If not, then the child would have to undergo
naturalization.
2. Provide a reliable means for employers to check the status of employees.
3. Provide severe punishments for knowingly hiring illegals (or reckless
disregard). That punishment should include jail time for repeat violations.
4. Eliminate ALL benefits for illegals including schools for children.
5. Rewrite legal immigration to allow in immigrants with a desirable education
and/or skill set and arrange the waiting list to have the most skilled/educated
at the top of the list. (Australian system) Also include a check for
communicable diseases (as we did in the past) and provide for immunization.
Immigrants from countries on the list of terror support need not apply.
6. For groups that already have large populations in the U.S. who have not
assimilated, reduce the allowable numbers until they do (eliminate whole towns
that do not speak English)
7. Provide severe penalties for mules.
8. Provide the death penalty for people involved in sex slavery.
9. Eliminate all forms of asylum. That system has been abused to the point of
making it a joke. Any true case that needs to be let in should be a case by
case special act passed by congress. Get them on record.
10. Immigrants who become involved in any serious crime prior to becoming a
citizen should be deported back to their home country.
11. Absolutely no dual citizenship allowed.

Sword wielding, gun toting Governor Rick Perry is alleged to have slaughtered unknown numbers of persons under the age of one. These reports are not confirmed at this time.

If the trifecta of union ass-kickers, Walker, Christie, and Kasich, can cement at least 50% support, I think the reforms they've pushed for will stick.

I intended to be Citadel '95, but in the spring of '91 I didn't have the seventeen grand (including uniform costs) that that task required to start. So I went to Ole Miss instead which cost a third as much. Ole Miss produced fewer generals, but more Miss Americas.
Over the years in the Army, I worked with and for West Pointers, Aggies, Citadel Bulldogs, VMI Keydets, and so on until I got out. But I'm doing the grad school thing through Norwich, so I'm still not free of the military college thing.

The four things I can tell you about Perry - he knows how to throw a Texas style good old boy - Bar BQ, he had Ted Nugent as the performing act at the Inaugural Ball , and in the last election he utterly destroyed Nosferatu - the undead former Mayor of Houston who the Demonrats animated by means of the Dark Arts to run against him. Liberals absolutely hate him - which tells you a lot about him.
While not perfect by any means - Perry is a lot better than a Generic Republican. He'll play well in the south - including Florida and Texas (unlike Gore - he'll carry his home state) He'll play well in the southwest, and mid-west. He'll lose New York, Massachusetts and California, but so would any Republican. He'll play well in the swing states. Getting more than 270 electoral votes against President Downgrade should not be a problem for him; there are a lot of states where he could be governor, and that bodes well for him.

"I did and he liked it so much, we're going to Sea World"
Works better with penguins.
A guy finds some penguins & puts them in the back seat of the car.
A cop pulls him overs & says
"You can't drive around with them. Take those penguins to the zoo"
Next day the cop pulls him & the penguins over again.
"I told you to take those penguins to the zoo."
"I did and they liked it so much, today we're going to Sea World"
Penguins are funny, even the word is funny.
This is the SFW penguin joke. The NSFW involves ice cream.

14 I take it that Texas A&M is the Texas version of The Citadel or VMI. Is that right?
Except with more students. A Texas-sized shitload of more students. Wikipedia reports that total enrollment was in excess of 49,000 for Fall 2010.
And some of them are hot chicks.
Posted by: I R A Darth Aggie © at August 13, 2011 09:00 AM (1hM1d)
Not only the Texas version, the different schools tend to specialize preparing officers for different branches of service.. for example, A&M is aligned with USArmy Artillery, Norwich prepares officers for Armor, VMI - Infantry.

Both were in the vein of GWB style trying to do good, but not really conservative. He's had to walk a tight-rope on immigration and the border too. I'll say this. He has shown the ability to take a position, accept fire and criticism and back down. He has become more conservative in the last four years or so, and I mean that in a good way, not just positioning himself.
I could be wrong , but he appears to be maturing in his beliefs and conservatism and becoming resolute in his core beliefs. He's a good politician and if he gets the nomination, I think he'll win easily. I support him wholeheartedly and without reservation. He's saying things right now that other national pols are refusing to even touch.... and I like that.
