Morning Open [Truman North]
— Open Blogger

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck."

1 I have my LSAT this morning.  You all take care of your shit, or else suffer a fate as bad as mine: the prospect of becoming a lawyer.

Congress to sue Obama over Solyndra documents?

Members of Congress investigating the $535 million loan guarantee that the Obama administration gave to now-bankrupt solar panel manufacturer Solyndra are considering suing the White House to obtain access to documents relating to the case, Fox News has learned.

Sue? What happened to contempt of congress and eventual prosecution with up to 12 months in jail? Why are the baby-footing around?  HereÂ’s why:

However, since the U.S. attorney for the capital, Ronald C. Machen Jr., is an Obama political appointee, committee Republicans are not optimistic that he would vigorously pursue a contempt citation against the White House.

What do you do when the DOJ is a crew of thug cronies? In the Nixon era they appointed a special prosecutor. Of course that only works with Republicans.

Posted by: Vic at December 03, 2011 03:56 AM (YdQQY)

5

And on that score the DOJ tries to explain why they lied to congress

Now where are the charges of perjury? Again, that only works with Republicans and sports figures.

House ethics committee to take up JJJr.?

The House Ethics Committee announced Friday it will continue its investigation into allegations Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. or someone acting on his behalf offered to raise campaign cash for then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich in exchange for a Senate appointment in 2008.

The committee also released an initial report from the Office of Congressional Ethics that said there was “probable cause” to believe that Jackson either directed a third party or had knowledge of a third party’s effort to convince the since-convicted Blagojevich to appoint Jackson Jr. in exchange for campaign cash.

Hahahahaha, I see another tap on the wrist. Like Obama he is protected by blackdemocratium and untouchable.  And guess what, he is guilty as hell.

Washington Times swallows unemployment numbers and Obama's man-meat - no questions asked.

This is part of the overall election strategy for 2012. Expect to see it in full swing soon. First start gradually manipulating the numbers down. Second, start spending all that unspent “porkulous money” they have been holding. Where will he spend it? In heavy Dem districts?  Hell no. It will go to places like VA that he MUST carry to win.  This is the FDR strategy to win in 1936.

Thee numbers are as phony as a three dollar bill but nobody in the MFM questions them at all. As I demonstrated yesterday using the Dept of LaborÂ’s own numbers for adults over 20, roughly 38% of the U.S. adult workforce is unemployed for one reason or another.  WE ARE IN A DEPRESSION FOLKS

30 I guess they are waiting for the HHS to hit somebody and then they can get standing and a mass class action lawsuit?

My best guess as to why no suit yet?  No actual harm has yet occurred.  Courts aren't supposed to issue advisory opinions so until such time as an entity gets hit with a penalty, there's no controversy actually before the court.

The thing to just keep in mind is that the employment information put out by law schools is highly fudged.  Be sure to talk to third-year students at any law school you're considering (find them on your own, not through the school).  That will give you an accurate picture of what the situation at that school is like.

A man from Nyköping in eastern Sweden has been denied a power wheelchair despite having had both of his legs amputated as the local health authority remained "uncertain if the impairment was permanent".

Swedes leave humans to grow new legs like lizards can another tail. They were willing to remove his legs, but not to give him a wheelchair. They want him in a pushcart? Darwinian evolution gone a muck, uncertain if stupidity is permanent? Evidently, socialized healthcare permanently impairs the bureaucratic mind into perpetually indifferent denial of reality.

He is neither. He is an arrogant man who has read his audience quite well enough to realize that a good beatdown of the other party and the MSM would be welcome. However, he has failed to realize that we also know that, while entertaining, it is no way to run a nation.

I can't get past one simple line in DORs sidebar article explaining his vote for Perry: I donÂ’t have to convince myself that heÂ’s a changed man in order to feel good about my choice.

Nothing glamorous or exciting, but if you're in need of a small canister vac...really small... I bought the Eureka Powermite for $19 at Walmart. It's so small that you can hold it in one hand while using the wand to dust the blinds and molding. It's a bagged model with a washable filter and a retractable cord.

For $19 bucks.

Given the latest US emphasis on the global-Pacific region, no one's made news of Obama's long distance White House Hawaiian compound, because he hasn't used tax funds to buy/construct the POTUS a Pacific Presidential Suite at a Hawaiian military installation secured site. Instead, whatever tax funded improvements are made on the president's behalf at a private facility benefit the private property at taxpayer expense.

But the weird thing is, I checked AdBlocker before my original post, and the Amazon widget was not there to be blocked.
And after I re-checked it from your response, AdBlocker reported it as the first item it was blocking.
It's as if the widget comes and goes.

I think that is what bugs me most. We hear daily how we are doomed, News from Europe to the mid east, to China and russia banding together , but we are castigated over our concerns that a candidate should be fiscally sane and be able to handle the rising thugs and dictators in this brave new world.

we really don't want someone that is only concerned with getting His own power, but someone that really will have the balls and be wise enough to hire the wisest to deal with these issues.

94 Well, it appears that Herman Cain will be out by the end of today, so that is a big one to get off the stage. Now if we can just get Bachmann and Santorum to stand down we will have a real race. But I think both of them believe they can win Iowa, so they won't get out until after that.

96 .I honestly don't give a damn about whether he can be glib during the debates. He's good on his feet in other settings and has a clear grasp of the issues.

And, he has a great self-deprecating sense of humor. While Newt, Cain, and Mitt all have a sense of humor about other people, I'm not accustomed to hearing them cough up the humor in themselves.

With over a year to go, catch your breath. The gamble isn't if or when they'll drop out, since that's an eventuality. Rather, whom will each drop out endorse, and what difference will their endorsement make? Also, with 999 by the wayside, and eventually the tax lawyer sidelined, what of a logical low tax system? Swept off the stage along with the obligatory stupidity of "I never had sex with that woman."

Bachmann will endorse Mutt. She's crazy enough to still think that she'll be his VP choice. Cain, I don't know...I doubt he'll endorse anyone right away...he'll wait and see who makes him the best offer. It's a particularly sad time for me personally about this guy.  I've been listening to Cain on the radio when he would sit in for Boortz for many years and he is/was an inspiration to me.  I would love to hear him speak and he did it so eloquently.  So positively.  A nice change of pace from the victim race card other black "leaders" spout.  I was excited when I first heard him hint that there may be a "dark horse" candidate in the next election.  I thought to myself how the media wouldn't touch him because he's black.  Boy was I wrong.

Did he do these things to the women?  Probably.  Just wish the fucking media would vet the dems with the same intensity as they did with Palin/Cain, etc.

Maybe, maybe not.
But the ultimate question remains, what comes of any endorsement? How much do I allow my mind to not think but simply absorb propaganda's imagery in ads?

I'm determining my vote on platform agenda. Just because some politician gets paid off with promises in order to secure an endorsement for another politician doesn't buy my vote.

The "charismatic" vote elected Obama. Americans better admit what charisma looks like. So the Pied Piper beckons. What has that tune to do with achieving the hard work in order for posterity to have a valuable US Dollar, our domestic manufacturing base with real jobs, invigorated infrastructure, and national security? Rather, the result of buying charisma with your vote is the sacrifice of the next generation, wasted on securing fraud.

I have gone on profane, violent tears about my machine on several threads. OMG do I hate it.

It's a GE with the Hydro-Wave system. It doesn't run enough water to circulate the clothes. With every load I have to check the water level and twist the water-level button to force it to add a little more water. Because of this problem, if I miss doing the same for the rinse cycle, I frequently have to re-rinse.

Let's just say that there's no such thing as putting in a load to wash and going about my business of working on other chores.

I recently had dinner with a cousin from San Antonio and she has convinced me that Perry is my guy - actually, I guess she really just made me feel better about where my choices take me. I believe in elected executives and of the three (okay, Gary Johnson makes 4 but is he really running?) that are out there, Huntsman is out, I am uneasy about Mitt, and then there is Perry. I am hoping that Perry is holding back, not peaking too soon. I think Perry with Newt as VP would be a nice matchup, can you imagine the mess on the floor with a Gingrich-Biden debate?

Willow, the shades sound beautiful, but you may need a fabric archivist or restorer to tell you how to safely clean them. If you have a museum of history in your town, you may want to talk with them first, before doing anything. I checked some vintage fabric sites, and their solutions ranged from the plausible-gentle spot washing with diluted woolite, and leaving it to dry between paper towel, to soaking it in urine. 156 I have an LG, and it is great. when I was checking out washing machines my only criteria was NOT a GE. I try to avoid GE anything.

I should have known. When I bought my little old house, the lady who lived here before me had maintained her home impeccably. Her GE appliances were really old, but worked, so I saw no need to replace them. About a year after moving in the dryer broke. I called out a repairman and he took a look and said it was so old that it didn't have a heating element, but an actual heater for which parts could no longer be obtained. I had a home warranty so, no biggie, and I went out and bought a new GE dryer.

About a year later my washing machine broke, and by broke I mean it flooded my garage. The repairman came out and took a look and said that the machine was probably close to 40 years old and couldn't be repaired because the motor was positioned under the tub and had been destroyed during the flood. No biggie, I said, I'll just use the home warranty to buy another.

Do not buy GE were his final words.

I should have listened.

The original GE appliances lasted 40 years. In the subsequent 8 years I have run through two sets of GE appliances.

Never again.

It might not cover those systems now. I wish I had maintained the warranty  had.

Come to think of it, we did sent McCain/Palin Sarah! money before he decided to TARPoon his campaign into his willing suspension of disbelief.

Anyway, times are hard. If I'm going to give away money at this point, it will be a donation to the Salvation Army. It isn't as if elected officials actually listen to their constituents, only to lobbyists. No matter how much money I give a politician's politician, they're not going to listen to me. As if Rick, Mitt or Newt would rescind the US Treasury and Dollar from the clutches of the Federal Reserve bent on profitably destroying national sovereignty. I'm not going to willingly pay to be abused. Nor will I accept excuses from my elected Members of Congress writing that their dirty rotten votes are a "first step towards improvement." Buying their own insulation, not mine or yours. Bad enough being stood up. Worse being raped, pillaged and burnt to the ground for wanting rule of law to win the day.

Niedermeyer;

Keep in mind that sometimes repairmen say something isn't repairable because THEY don't want to try to repair it OR the parts will cost too much. Sometimes a part will be unavailable if the machine is old enough but similar parts can be found a lot of the time.

As to a Dryer not having a heater element? I think he didn't want to fix it. A dryer HAS TO HAVE some source of heat thus why it's called a dryer. Perhaps there was a glitch in translation.

I know I used to tell folks stuff wasn't repairable when the part was too hard to find OR it was an ass ache to replace. (we charged a flat rate for labor as most people balk at an hourly claiming we worked too slow).

Pretty much EVERYTHING lasted longer years ago. They also cost more. They also weren't made in China or Taiwan or Japan or Korea or Thailand or Malaysia.

Get the picture? Well maybe not if you've got a GE TV.

Especially if the repair guy works for a new appliance dealer.

Not saying GE is such great stuff, just saying don't take the opinion of the repair guy as gospel. He may have other motivations than telling the truth.

184 When I first moved here I bought a Sears washer and dryer. The dryer lasted well over 20 years and all I did to it was replace the heater element twice. One of the drying cycles in it went out so my wife wanted a new one.

She went down and got a new Sear washer and dryer set, state of the art top of the line. Had the guys haul off the old stuff. Nothing wrong with the washer.

The bearings in the dryer went out after about two years. I did some research on Amazon and various rating agencies. It seems that ALL home appliances now are shit.

I went down to Lowes and got the cheapest thing they had for a dryer regardless of brand. My only criteria was it had to fit in the space available.

Posted by: Vic at December 03, 2011 06:14 AM (YdQQY)

185 I bought a Roper washer and dryer when I moved into the new house. They were the cheapest things Best Buy had, and I expected they would be adequate for the three of us (me, my wife and Youngest Son) for a couple of years.
Fast forward six and a half years (my how time flies) and they are still working fine, I've had to replace the mixer valve on the washing machine twice but they have serviced the six-to-eight of us well (my adult children have been in and out-mostly in-bringing spouses, girlfriends and children with them). I guess they are the cut-rate Whirlpool models, whatever they are they have been good ones.
Keep in mind there are only a couple of companies that actually MAKE washers and dryers, but a lot of companies that put their names on them. Kind of like riding lawn mowers.

Your washer still under warranty for labor? Have the water level sensor checked if it is and even if it isn't. It might be worth finding out if this is a design problem or something else.

Many of these sensors are just a tube that as the water rises increases the pressure on a switch. They can get kinked and depending on design and placement can be inaccurate but they can be adjusted sometimes. Or the switch is defective.

You might be going  crazy for no reason. Hire repair guy NOT working for dealer if possible. Depending where you live there may be some around.

It's a pretty clever plan by the Left. They found a way to keep a permanent underclass trapped by paying them off with benefits and wages to barely keep them above water but not enough to get them ahead.

201 New appliances are nothing like their older counterparts.

Yeah, go on Amazon and read the personal reviews people write. Some are real horror stories. We have become a throw-away culture in major appliances now.

I still have the old original Sear refrigerator out in my old pool shed and it was working fine after 30 years when I unplugged it a couple of years ago. The new one that replaced it (bigger with fancy geegaws) is literally falling apart now.

My older brother bought a news Sear refer a couple of years ago and it tore up under warranty. He couldn't get them to work on it at all. They wouldn't even honor the warranty.

I have no idea what I am going to do for a refer when this one finally gives up the ghost. I suspect they are all shit now as well. I know one thing though, I will not let wifey buy it. Last one cost me 2K for the refer and 15K for remodeling the kitchen after had to cut out cabinets so it would fit.

What was funny was I was working night shift when the guy brought it in. We had to take doors off the hinges to get it in. I looked and wife and made sarcastic comment, "couldn't you find a bigger one"? Guy rolling it says "no that is the biggest one they make".

202 You can't get people out of poverty on other people's money.

I'm concerned about all the jobs that are now and are soon to be going overseas.

How can you get people to be self reliant when there's no way for them to earn a living?

Remember that half or more of the population (look at a bell curve on I.Q. spread) are not especially bright. We're intelligent enough but not creative enough (brilliance) to invent our own jobs.

Many people are good workers but who have to work for someone. Without jobs that pay a living wage (not the liberal definition btw) and offer advancement as someone creates a family then their numbers will drag the economy and the mood of the country down.

It's a pickle.

Yeah, you can have this shitty job, but use it as a vehicle to get a better job.

But the SEIU members are in for life. They get [shitty] health insurance and  a [shitty] livable wage. If they didn't get those things they would try harder to make those jobs temporary until they got something better instead of trying to raise families on their jobs.

204 211 We just finally got a stove that works, after a 4+ year debacle with an 'energy saver oven' (the only type you could get and can still get around here).  It took dad raising hell up to middle-upper management at Sears national to get them to stop just coming in and only fiddling with the thermostat.  They made the mistake of thinking if they had people put him on hold for hours and then hanging up on him would make him go away.  That kind of thing makes him drive to regional corporate headquarters and camp.

Also can't find an electric skillet worth a damn.  Another one of those we can only get pulse heat energy saver bullshit here.

We also just replaced the fridge after about 20 years.  Like you, we had to remodel part of the kitchen to get it to fit.  It looks pretty, but I'm afraid to pull the door open too hard for fear it'll snap the whole assembly in half.

Oh, it did have heat, but it wasn't an "element" as are in newer units. It was basically a whole heater shoved inside the GE appliance. And the heater was manufactured by someone other than GE. It was a crazy looking setup.

207 FWIW, more jobs have been lost to automation than to going overseas. Robots don't bitch, go on strike, have hangovers or sick days, they don't have off days, they don't give a shit if it's Monday, Friday or payday, and once you buy them they stay bought. The skilled labor jobs (IE, machinist) have been taken over by robots and automation (IE, CNC machines), and the only humans necessary are the trained monkeys that load and unload them and the maintenance techs to fix them when they are broke. Those are the jobs that won't ever come back...cause they never left, they were replaced.

209 Seriously, we do not have to concede all of our jobs to Asia. We need to change the incentives for companies to stay in the U.S. and we need to have better community colleges and technical schools where people can get the skills they need for these jobs. Wages are rising on the Third World countries. Shipping costs are going up with the price of oil. There are already some companies "in-sourcing" work back to the U.S. because the cost structure is competitive again. Ford and (cough) GM are making cars that people like again, and so are Honda, Toyota, BMW, and Mercedes - all in the USA. This is an especially nasty recession compared to previous ones because of the housing market collapse. The only policy changes that are needed there are: allow mortgages to be written down in bankruptcy, sell off Fannie and Freddie and reconstruct a private secondary mortgage market (not hard policy-wise but tough politically) and get rid of all the Dodd-Frank horseshit that has made banks afraid to lend to anyone with less than a 750 credit score and 20% down. I've been in the housing policy field for 30 years now, watched a few booms and busts, and I am still dumbfounded at the lack of knowledge and attention to how much housing drives our economy. It did in 1980, and it does today. Fix housing, and you fix the economy. The rest of it will revive pretty rapidly.

McDonald's used to be a place for teens, students, and retirees.

Now adults with low-to-no skills (imported from foreign countries) are making a career at McDonald's and having [anchor] babies while doing so. You cannot sustain a family on your McDonald's wages. Thus the nanny govt has to make ends meet.

Eventually the Left will have their way and unionize McDonald's.

220 Lady in Black 202

We're hand washing dishes since that Maytag broke. A Bosch will arrive this week. Friends like theirs.

Our Kenmore 3 year old refrigerator and stove broke as soon as warranties expired, and repairs (with no guarantee that whatever else wouldn't break next) costs approximated new replacements.

Our Maytag 10 year old washer gave out. We replaced it with the latest front-loading Whirlpool from Lowes. NEVER have I heard such a loud racket as the damned expensive water conserving front loader when it spins. And the wash cycles go on and on for nearly 2 hours. When we bought it over a year ago, the Lowes repairman insisted that the noise level was normal for the brand new machine. The owners manual says to expect noises from the machine. Now the large capacity front loader won't run large loads anymore, stopping mid-cycle this month unless the load is light, 1/3 full. The warranty doesn't cover service unless repairs are required. The owner's manual says that should the machine stop (as it does now), just to run small loads. So if we call out the Lowes serviceman, he'll prove that the machine runs light loads, and we'd have to pay him for telling us what we already know since the machine "works".

Meanwhile, the old 1960 Sears washer inherited from Gram is still going strong at our son's apartment. Made in the USA.

229 By the way, the reason all the washing machines today are so shitty is those great "Energy Star" rules the government imposed on large appliances a few years ago. And of course, your dishwasher doesn't clean your dishes anymore because the EPA banned phosphates in the detergent. And don't even get me started on the goddam CFL "light" bulbs that produce something, but it isn't light. Just watch, there will be a growing black market for old washers and dryers and lightbulbs just like there is for old toilets. 232 Effing government intervention!

Save energy!
Save water!
Save the planet!

So, we have energy saving appliances which don't cook properly (save the E-Coli!)

Water-saving machines which use nearly twice as much water due to the need to re-wash our clothes and dishes.

And, although they won't admit it, I feel 100% certain that that government was somehow involved in this bullshit as well. It now stinks to high heaven and customers have been complaining for two years.

Let's save the planet, but keep on filling up the landfills with throwaways.

You could voice the same complaints about many of the newer transportation modules sold today.

When I first broke into the repair business, you took your busted auto to the shop, they removed the offending part, repaired it, reinstalled and off you went. Now it's all module replacement, discarding perfectly good sub-assemblies,because cars are "high tech".

Way too much importance is is given to tech for it's own sake, imho. Not because it is required.

243 Yes you can support a family on McDonald's wages, if you live with two other families in a 3-bedroom rent-controlled or Section 8 apartment, get food stamps, EITC, Medicaid, and free lunches for the kids at school. What else do you have to pay for? The cell phone and cable TV bill. And pretty soon Daddy Government will start paying for that too, 'cause it's only fair.

If an adult with a family is having to support them at minimum wage for more than a blink of an eye, they are doing something, very, very wrong.

If they started out making minimum wage and couldn't work well or hard enough to even get annual increases, then they aren't trying hard enough.

If they were pushed out of another job making more money and can't negotiate their resume into at least a little better than minimum wage, even at a fast food joint, again, they are doing something very, very wrong.

If I lost my job and the only job I could get was at McDonald's, I guarantee you I'd be managing the place inside a year.

My guess would be that many of us here started out in fast food in our teens and none of us ever intended to be working the drive thru window years later. If someone is complaining that they can't support themselves on minimum wage, then I'd suggest they develop a plan for getting either a raise, or a new line of work.

Minimum wage isn't SUPPOSED to be a lifestyle.

It's best to take it to a dry cleaner and let them take a whack at it. I've been amazed at how they've saved clothes I thought for certain were ruined.

And, whatever the stain, just come clean with them about it. It's not like it would be the first time someone spilled K-Y on a garment.

Posted by: phoenixgirl..(oZfic) is cat piss at December 03, 2011 07:07 AM (SH3gZ)

251 254-HH, what fabric is it? That makes a huge difference in how you treat the stain. For most hardy fabrics, like denim, chambray, canvas, duckcloth or durable cotton, Resolve usually works. (the kind you use for pet stains on carpet-it takes most stains out, but it not good on delicate fabrics.) For more delicate fabrics, like silk, I would take the garment to the cleaners, and even then, the stain probably won't come out. You may try treating the spot with Dawn dish liquid and letting it sit for an hour or so, then wash normally. Or, you have some wonderful painting clothing.

My first post paper route job was as a dishwasher at an occasionally 4-star restaurant. I worked there from just before I turned 15 until I went to college. I was walking home (not too far and in a quiet part of town) at 2 AM with soaking wet clothes on three or four nights a week during high school. Made a relative shitload of money and learned to drink at the same time. Win-win. Sadly, the restaurant building itself (a refurbished bread factory) was demolished years ago and replaced with a McDonald's.

Immediacy matters as much as which first chemical is applied to any stain. That much we know. I've found that baking soda removes the set grime on enamel around the gas stove elements better than the fluid or powdered cleaning products. Cheaper and gentler on the skin, too. I've kept open boxes of soda beside the stove as first response grease fire retardant for decades, but only figured on trying it cleaning a couple of months ago.

I just sent a silk sweater in to the cleaners that I got a spot on right in the front, and it came out.

Posted by: The Pirates Your Mother Fears at December 03, 2011 09:41 AM (lpWVn)

Well, I had hoped GOP primary voters were a good bit different in their candidate-picking thought processes, but after watching the primary process this time around, I'm not so sure they are. An endorsement may not change your mind or mine (they do impact my view of someone negatively at times, depending on the endorser), but since I don't see any logical, rational reason for most of these candidates to have had the support they have now or have had in the past few weeks or months, I'm sure what an endorsement will or won't do. I guess that I'm worried that GOP voters have turned out to be just as susceptible to "oooo! shiny!" politicians and political strategy as Dems are; most of the folks who hang out here excepted of course.

I've bitched about the uselessness of front load washers here before. We're on our second set. I HATE the damn things. I would KILL to have our ancient top load GE washer back again.

Not too long ago I took a bunch of my shirts to one of our properties between tenants to wash in a top load we have there. They came clean!
I wept.

Grease spots?
You too?
I used to splatter grease all over my polos, throw them in the old top load days later, and they'd come clean. Now I get a spot on a shirt, I run into the laundry room, tear it off and spray it with shout and wash, only to set the stain.

The best thing I've found is to tear it off, and make a paste out of oxy-clean, and scrub it again and again with a toothbrush, let it sit for a couple of hours, then wash. Also a product called "krud kutter" works wonders on some things.

True or not, the accusations are certainly closer to reality and more in line with our Constitution than his 999 plan was.

I like Cain, but that plan was beyond ridiculous and no conservative in his right mind should have ever found anything of value in it.

Cain totes crony capitalism as GREAT. Did Cain ever meet a Federal Reserve bailout of fraud funded by US taxpayers that he didn't like? So long as he's on top, BEAMER! sucka.

"Mr Herman Cain doesn't chase skirts; he chases solutions for America."
--Alveda King

No, Alveda. Herman Cain chases both skirts and solutions for cronies.

Dragging America through another Clinton period of denial "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" makes he chases solutions for America another liar's lie. It isn't as if going to church or working for a church or having high principles makes a person or organization above the fray of practicing deception. For the public good? Vomit, right along with covering up ANY pastoral sexual advances outside of matrimony, whether it's a priest sodomizing children or the married MLKjr. consensual sexual relations with women other than his wife, even if the spouses of pastors permit husband's cavorting as with the Kennedy clan and many politicians.

It's no use defending Cain's sexual relations by denying them. And it's demeaning for everyone to keep trotting out ladies on his behalf to make such statements as "he'd have to have a split personality." Mrs. Cain should have stayed out of it, issuing no statement, certainly nothing beyond "I know all about it, and have no further comment." As an American, I don't want to have to deal with any politician's sex life or deceit.

How do you get grease (from food) stains out of your clothes? I swear I've tried most products, but they just don't work! Pisses me off to no end.

Some ONT chemistry Morons solved this problem for us this past summer.  Go to Home Depot or Lowe's and buy a box of TSP, Trisodium Phosphate.  That's the stuff they took out of your dishwasher and clothes detergents.  It helps break up grease.  It's about $10 for a 4 lb. box and lasts quite a while.  For sink or dishwasher, add 1/4 teaspoon.  For a full load of laundry, add 1 tablespoon.

I also found something called "Totally Awesome" at Dollar General.  You're supposed to dilute it as an all-purpose cleaner, but if you spray it full-strength on greasy (baconz) skillets or on grease stains in laundry, it'll git 'er done.  The other laundry failsafe is that brown soap they sell on the top shelf at the grocery store,  Fels Naptha.  When the washer is filling up, wet the edge of that soap and work it into a laundry stain, then throw it in.

Men who are really good at it find good looking women who are willing to go to bed with them, and NOT TALK ABOUT IT days, weeks, years after the fact. Being men in positions of power though, they THINK they are supposed to be seducing women, as a perk of the job. So they try. And sometimes you end up shoving cigars up the holes of interns, sometimes you end up making awkward passes, sometimes you have 13 year relationships with women who don't sleep with you, but take every nickel and dime you offer them. Too bad, Herb. You were never going to be President. Good luck with you next book tour.

My impression of their marriage is that it isn't much of a marriage.  Look, a lot of people of a certain generation will not get divorced, but lead pretty separate lives.  And it works for them, so fine.

So I don't think if he drops out over what he claims is an innocent relationship it has anything to do with his wife (or family).  I think it will be because he was monkeying around financially and he wants the investigations to stop.

That was a fun movie, though.  It was also one of the best campaign ads for Hillary ever, as she appeared to have a brain and actually be competent at something - not the sort of brain-dead dolt who can't get an accurate translation of one, single English word into Russian from the State Department for a very public diplomatic act that was supposed to express the new state of affairs between us and the only nation on Earth that could actually annihilate us, physically.  Well, she did get the message across accurately, but retards never have any problem getting their retardation across, especially malevolent retards.

Well, if it meant that Cain was paying these women with "work funds" then it means that on a financial level, Cain wasn't using "household money" without the wife's knowledge.  If in Cain's mind he regarded it as a "charitable business expense" or something.  It is still wrong on an ethical level I agree but it does change the financial picture a bit.

But wouldn't it be the same amount of corrosion that would've occured if you could still get the good laundry and dish detergent? Or was the formulation different and using the straight stuff, albeit in smaller amounts, corrodes faster?

I've still got 3 boxes of bootleg dish detergent, but alas my laundry detergent supply has run out. The liquid detergent seems to be working OK, but I've found you pretty much have to get the stain out before you put it in the wash or it won't come out.

Well in his interview with Hannity, Cain did say that he donated money to men too.  Don't know if that's been verified or not though.

383 Hmm. Salvation Army band playing carols outside the liquor store. Haven't seen that since Guys and Dolls.

386 It is still wrong on an ethical level

And possibly worse than that.  He could have essentially been stealing from the companies/organizations.  And we know that if a candidate uses campaign money to pay off his mistress, that's illegal.  So if he still had money from his Senate run or even from that brief POTUS run that I think he did in 2000 (?), he could be in trouble for using that.

I think it's a loveless marriage that he's in.  Just my hunch.  But they seem to spend a lot of time apart.  So I really don't care about the wife betrayal angle.  I care more about the fact that he seems to have been very unprofessional as CEO - partying with staff, possibly fooling around with them, and possibly carrying on with other folks he met through work.

387 Hi PGiS!

Yes, the formulation is likely different in the old-style commercial TSP detergent.

Where did you get the good detergent?

388 Cain did say that he donated money to men too.  Don't know if that's been verified or not though.

Where's Cain's "Back On Your Feet" Foundation? He hasn't even created his own charity; rather, inserted himself as a charitable institution's leader given his incidental salary.

Uh oh, This brings us back around to the ace-vs-religion thread.

392 Unless Cain started his own business, a point against is that he never created new jobs. Rather, he sliced employment as CEO in order to benefit corporate profits -- no sin, but not a job creator.

Posted by: The Pirates Your Mother Fears at December 03, 2011 08:28 AM (lpWVn)

393 We could really go full-on conspiracy theory, and suggest Cain doesn't really intend to drop out of the race, his suggestion that he would is just a negotiating ploy he's using with the Romney people. (i.e. Cain as a stalking horse didn't count on all this bimbo eruption stuff to hurt him as much as it has, so Romney has to sweeten the pot some more).

Posted by: BurtTC at December 03, 2011 08:31 AM (Gc/Qi)

394 356 ...Some ONT chemistry Morons solved this problem for us this past summer.

Got a box of TSP out in the garage - worked at a hardware store when I was a kid in the 70's. As mentioned we used to use it before painting walls too.

Did you know that our brilliant legislators decided since we were poisoning ourselves with raw Chicken that they'd start washing said birds in TSP before sale? So now, besides washing your hands wash the hell out of that damn chicken!

396 Y-not,
That was me with the Rearden Steel bracelet queries. Thanks for the response. I did look at that site (Etsy) and found what I think you meant. A woman who handcrafts her own selling them for $85.00. She seems to be a legit vendor who makes quality stuff and I'm considering whether to go that route right now. She requires 2-3 weeks to make the things plus shipping time, so I'm up against a hard deadline of today. In my name is a link to the Etsy one, compared to the one shown at  "atlasshruggedpart1 dot com / bracelet" (remove spaces). I'm giving myself until 3 pm to shit or get off the pot.

I think you should go for it.  The beauty is that at that price you are well under your budget so you can augment with other nice things.  You could put together a pretty gift basket or something.

My husband has gotten me quite a lot of nice (as in "fun" not diamonds or anything) jewelry via Etsy and has been really pleased with the service.  (IIRC the Ace of Spades earrings from last year and the Wrigley Field ones were from Etsy.  The latter are really nice blocks of green Wrigley seat wood set in high quality silver settings.)

Posted by: Y-not, Perrynista in Utah at December 03, 2011 08:37 AM (5H6zj)

400 Yes... that's the link, Linconlntf.

At that price you can order it and even if it's late you can have a gift basket for Christmas and give her the bracelet for New Year's or something and seem like you planned it that way.

Where did you get the good detergent?

Our dish detergent ban went into effect a year ago last summer, so before it went into effect I bought a bunch of boxes. It is still good, some clumping, but I just shake it, still cleaning the dishes though. I assume there is a time past which it will lose its effectiveness but at a year and a half it still works.

Posted by: ParanoidStillAGirlInSeattle at December 03, 2011 08:42 AM (RZ8pf)

405 Oh hi, Y-not, I just went looking for you in the other thread. Thanks again for the tips, I'm going to go shoot the vendor an e-mail to see if she can estimate delivery before Christmas even if she can't gurantee it.

Had he ever once said that he and his wife had been through a rough spot, that would be different. That is not what he has claimed. Thus far, from all appearances, he has been dishonest, possibly unfaithful, to his wife with whom he claims a remarkable bond.

407 Does that mean PVC pipes too?

It is okay on PVC pipes.
But it will over time corrode any metal pipes or metal pipe joints.

Posted by: chemjeff at December 03, 2011 08:49 AM (s7mIC)

408 416 ... I assume there is a time past which it will lose its effectiveness but at a year and a half it still works...

The TSP will last indefinitely.

They put the kibosh on phosphates in laundry detergents almost 20 years ago, it's just the dish detergent that recently got it. Algae in lakes.

Front load laundry washers don't work because of the lack of water, and the HE detergent that suppresses foaming doesn't help any. I did try some "non" HE detergent once, and it looked like a fire extinguisher went off in the washer.

Window washers use TSP to wash windows - it's strong stuff as chemjeff has mentioned use small amounts.

409 Atlas Shrugged bracelet: I have a pre-1914 Siam bracelet of the same design. Pretty uncomfy. Anything in a linked chain style feels better. Of course, if your lady enjoys handcuffs, she won't have any issues with the Atlas ripoff of an older style.

418 Grease on clothes: wear an apron whole cooking and sit down at a table to eat. Slouching on the couch is messy. Put a damn napkin in your lap, piggy. Pretend your grandma is watching you do something (other than fap). Use your own spit to remove blood from fabrics. Like old appliances? Buy them used. Some poor shlub's got a wife with remodel fever and you've got a machine with 20 yrs left in it.

419 Re Cain, and then I'll shut because I find myself now highly annoyed that I have discovered, in the course of a day, that I am both a Perry fangirl and completely anti-Cain.

If he were accused, rightly or wrongly, of sexual harassment, and his job and reputation were on the line, and he never even mentioned it to his wife, then he is dishonest. (Hi. How was your day, Herman?)

If he were helping a desperate woman with funds from his employer, he is corrupt. (From his family's account, refer to previous bullet point.)

If he honestly thought that he could run for POTUS and none of this come out, then he is a fool.

None of these scenarios lend credibility to his fitness to lead this nation.

424 Heinlein was right on target but had another bullseye in his sights re 'poverty' -- the state of nature for humans in a low-tech or no-tech society isn't just impoverishment and ignorance, it's also chattel slavery for the majority. Once one restores muscle power to the top of the energy chain, human muscle power becomes relatively superior and so is grabbed by those with the best weapons. Sure, Western humanist ethical belief was in the front rank of the anti-slavery campaigns of recent centuries, but it was made 'practical' by the replacement of human muscle power by wind, waterfall, steam, and their successors.  Remove the 'replacements' and a society winds up back where it started -- more 'bad luck'. TANSTAAFL.

425    I won't deny the tech improvements at all, but all the personality has been engineered out of the newer transportation modules. To me, they have all the appeal of a rotted tree stump.

Get a newer hotter module then,  I drove a B2000 pu, then a Grand National, a Maserati BiTurbo (soured me on carbuerators), a 1997 Grand Prix GTP and now a 2006 GTO.  The goat is comfortable enough for multi-day trips and steers and brakes better than any of the prior cars.  Plus it goes right by a raped ape like he was sitting there with a banana.
