MSNBC/Olby Breakup Inspires Important Rants and Emergency Action Updates
— Dave in Texas

The end of free speech. The corporatists have won.

Some of the good ones captured here by Treacher. My fav:

"@KeithOlbermann has saved lives in this country. He's saved sanity for many of us."

Apparently Keith Olbermann kicked Death's ass and I missed it.

via Irishspy and Radishthegreat

I myself have a working theory about the breakup of Keef and MSNBC. What if, and I'm just spitballin here, what if he was, say, a collosal giant dick, and at the same time he wasn't pulling in the revenue like he was maybe two years ago?

Hey, I don't know anything, I'm a moron, but that seems possible.

MORE on my little theory: Schuster takes umbrage.

Forget two years ago--how about ever?  The guy never was vaguely within the ballpark of O'Reilly ratings-wise.  I never understood (outside of politics and/or being horribly misguided in their corporate leadership) how they justified his pay.

Outside of that, though, it is possible this was planned.  It's possible they decided to can him for good when they initially suspended him a while back and this was just a face-saving maneuver.  That wouldn't explain why his staff wasn't given some warning, though Olbermann being a dick might at least partly explain that.

4 I keep telling you, the left are reactionaries. Everything that happens in the world is like a rubber hammer to the patellar ligament, except instead of your foot jerking up, the response is a vaguely relevant expression of leftist doctrine.

Try it sometime. Make up some news that relates to politics, and tell it to a lefty. They will have a conclusion about it that relates to their doctrine, an enemy to blame, and will probably claim to have predicted it.

ANYTHING that happens is immediately factored into their ideological construct, as a "support member," whether it fits or not.

It's fun to spread these out a few days and watch someone declare an event and its opposite as proof for their ideas.

52 Wingnuts, we live in a world that has talk shows, and those news talk shows have to be hosted by men with a big mouth and a nasty attitude. Who's gonna do it? Chris Matthews? You, Bill O'Reilly? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Tim Russert, and you curse the network. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Tim Russert's death, while tragic, probably saved lives, because is gave me a chance to go nuts.. And my commentary, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties or some nutty blogs, you want me on that talk show, you need me on that talk show. We use words like Countdown, Nielsen ratings, and  Special Comments. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent babbling about something for millions of dollars a year in salary. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the obnoxious noise that I make while protected by the freedom of the 1st Amendment, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said fuck you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up Mr. Microphone, and spend some time with Ed Schultz. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

55 Every time a liberal stops talking, or anyone else speaks, it's the "end of fre speech" in their minds.

I remember during the Bush years it seemed like every week some celeb or other (I remember Gillian Anderson best 'cause she used to be hot) would pipe up that there's no free speech allowed anymore - on TV - in front of millions - without any consequences except they proved they're idiots.

Also reminds me of NASA's Hansen giving daily interviews complaining that he wasn't allowed to speak. To the press. In an interview. To the press. Daily.

Western Civ has an association between kindness and weakness built into its cultural DNA. People feel like they're jerks if they demand. People who are jerks have no compunction. You don't ask, you don't get.

It remains to be seen if that will just be a source of constant pain or whether it will actually kill us off.

Do ANY of these tools even watch Fox News primetime?  Brett Bair?  Straight news.  Granted the panel tends to lean right, but Juan Williams and A.B. Stoddard are always well-represented.  Shep Smith?  OK, he's kind of a tool and a closet leftie, but his presentation is right down the middle.  Papa Bear?  Leans conservative but has a Libertarian/populist bent that can be unpredictable.  Hannity? Guilty as charged, although both Hannity and O'Reilly always have guests who disagree with them (other than Alan Colmes, who needs to grow a pair).  Greta?  People magazine.  No political agenda.

How many opposing voices appear on MSNBC?

92 OT, but I fret we don't speak of bodacious boobies as much as we used to.

93 Damn.  Martina McBride is the total package

Posted by: Ombudsman at January 23, 2011 02:38 PM (c1oyg)

94 These tools don't think straight news is straight. They are used to the far left tilt so if it doesn't tilt far left they think it tilts far right. If your standard is the NYT or the WaPo CNN and ABC even the straight news seems right. It's like, OMG they didn't show Obama with a halo--heretics!

Check out her eyes - they're amazing.  Oh, and she can sing a little, too. And not in the Shania Twain / Britney Spears sense, either

97 The only thing that I have to say good about Oreilly is often those on the fence find him unobjectionable at first and then come over.

I've found him a useful gateway drug to Beck.

Beck's jumped the shark.  His radio show just got dropped in Philly and in NYC, which is embarrassing because he's, you know, kinda based there.

You are dead wrong. Boobies are never off-topic.

You know, I was gonna skunk ya with a pic of a blue-footed booby, but I had safe search turned off, so... I'm gonna be busy for a while.

103 how many of those "free speech" people would be dancing in the streets if Rush Limbaugh were assassinated or the Fox News headquarters was blown up?

That's different...Rush is "hate speech", which isn't protected by the Constitution like Queef's spewings.

The sad part is their ignorant hatey asses get to vote, just like we do.

I meant in the abstract.  Of course, some gargoyles have tits.  It's the exception that proves the rule.

You know the moonbats are deranged when they believe, except for some shows on MSLSD (Olby, Madcow, Ed Shools), that all the other media is right wing corporatist propaganda.   All of it.   All. of. it.

That's just breathtakingly delusional.

Posted by: Steph at January 23, 2011 04:14 PM (AkdC5)

120 They should give Olbermanns time-slot to Janine Garofolo and have her do the show topless...  that way lefties could keep jacking off just as hard as before.

Watch the Dems and GOP "fight" over any issue.  It will all be made clear.

123 And of course, Jason, the Daily Kos, MSNBC, CNN, Katie Couric, the New York Times, Newsweek and Time are not obsessed with Sarah Palin.

When Dana Milbanks at the WaPo has to formally declare a "Palin Free" month..

You know she's in their heads, rent free and stealing the cable.
