National Enquirer Claim; Now Rielle Hunter Dumps John Edwards?
— Ace

What, what in the world, O Lord, what could I have ever done to deserve all this?

Ah, we laugh. Because other people's misfortunes are, what's the word, funny.

I'm not proud of that. That's just the way it is.

Don't hate the playa, hate the game.

Now, in this particular case, some of those dark schadenfreude giggles may be justified.

Because John Edwards -- who has been indicted for failing to report in-kind campaign donations in the form of bribes to keep his baby-mama quiet -- has actually attempted to convince said baby-mama to take the rap for him and claim it was all her fault, or something. And go to jail in his place, I guess.

At least so says the National Enquirer.

Desperate to stay out of jail, bad boy politician JOHN EDWARDS begged his mistress and mother of his love child Rielle Hunter to cover up for him, but she flatly refused, sources say.

...

In a web exclusive preview, we can report that a close source said, “Rielle snapped at him, ‘I can’t help you! My only concern is raising our daughter.’

“John felt as if she’d stabbed him in the back.”

There is something wrong with this guy. Really wrong. I don't even mean morally; I take that as a given. I mean a serious emotional disorder that I think might border on the s-word. Sociopathy.

It's not just that he tried to lobby her to take the fall.. That's corrupt and cowardly and evil, sure. But... he thought he could actually make this sale?

Then he got mad at her for not going along with it?

What's wrong with him?

You may remember John Kerry's own memory of Edwards, as recounted, I believe, in Bob Shrum's book.

Apparently Edwards was lobbying VP, and told Kerry a story about his son's death, and gave a teary account of it, and told him that he'd learned so much from it and was ready to be VP, or that kind of thing.

And he concluded: And I have never. Told. Anyone. That story before.

Kerry got a chill when he heard this, but not for the reason you'd think. He'd got the chill because he remembered Edwards telling him this same story, with the same dead son and the same "And I have never -- told -- anyone" conclusion, to convince him on some other virtue of Edwards', years earlier. And he got a sense of the man he was thinking about putting on the ticket.

Put him on the ticket anyway, of course.

There are two Americas.

#1 *Rich elite America - where corrupt democrats steel your money in the name of "fairness" and waste it in the government machine. The America where crony capitalism and Barney Frank collide. The America where democrats thumb their nose at you, and never pass a budget, which is against the law. An America where the media are so in the tank for one political party, all the news that spews out cannot be trusted and is a joke. An America where a man named John Edwards lives in a huge mansion, with a wife who has cancer and boinks a paid staffer while he talks to the dead in a court room and tells you how horrible America is in his two Americas.

#2 *The rest of us, who work hard and do what we can for our own families while the above group rape us. Sometimes we call ourselves individuals, and sometime we like "tea" and stuff.

Posted by: Jane D'oh at June 03, 2011 06:03 AM (UOM48)

61

From Huffpo:

A plea to a felony charge involving campaign finances could strip Edwards of his law license and end any hope he could work as an attorney for the poor. And a trial would mean more sordid stories about his campaign affair and the child he fathered during it, further battering his reputation.
Even if he were to win the case, it appears the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee would do so by making a humiliating argument: that money used to keep his mistress and out-of-wedlock child in hiding was intended to shield the affair from his cancer-stricken wife – not to aid his candidacy, which is what prosecutors believe.

"Trial or not, John Edwards is the Charlie Sheen of American politics – great hair and no chance for rehabilitation," said Democratic consultant Jack Quinn.

....Edwards' attorneys have denounced the investigation as a waste of resources and contend he did not violate the law.

Edwards has said he hopes that once this case is behind him he can revive his legal career, specializing in helping the victims of poverty he championed on the campaign trail. However, a lawyer in North Carolina who pleads guilty or no contest to a criminal offense faces disciplinary action by the State Bar, ranging from a mild rebuke to a loss of license to practice.

Could he seriously be thinking of not taking a plea deal?  He is that deluded.  And yeah, when he was out of contention as a Precedential candidate, he "reached out to Obama" and offered his support (to take down Hildebeast) in exchange for a job (like Attorney General).

America #2: The rest of you. Screw you all with a glowing-hot soldering iron. I'm pretty sure he'll have to hand over his passport.

He may be able to fly to San Diego or Seattle and slip across the border, but I'm not sure what that'll buy him. At least in Canada he could claim he's being unfairly persecuted and they might give him asylum.  In Mexico, not so much.

He might be able to get to Cuba, but the Brothers Castro will relieve him of much of his millions. And the same is likely true of the other thirdworld tinpot dictators who don't extradite and give him refuge.

Heh! Heh!  Weiner, Edwards, Carter, Obama, Kerry and Blago--the Democrat party is filled with fricking weiners:

Rod Blagojevich tells jurors he discussed the possibility of appointing himself to the U.S. Senate in 2008 so he could hunt down then-al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

The ousted governor is on the stand for a fifth day Thursday, addressing the most explosive allegation against him - that he tried to sell or trade President Barack Obama's vacated Senate seat. He denies that.

Defense attorney Aaron Goldstein asked if he'd ever talked to a deputy governor about appointing himself to the Senate, then traveling to Afghanistan to get bin Laden.

Blagojevich said, "Yes."

WLS Radio Court Reporter Bill Cameron says everyone, including the jury, laughed at the bin Laden comment.

He says he discussed a "lot of ideas" about the Senate seat after Obama's election as president. He's acknowledged that not all those ideas were good.

Edwards has enough money he could leave the country and hide out some where.  I don't see him going to prison or killing himself.

I don't think there's much money left.  The boy loved to spend and live large (in the Second America).  Plus paying off mistresses and lawyers gets darn expensive.  I think Elizabeth controlled the pursestrings.  I think she was the brains behind the operation, and a lot of the money was actually hers.  He's just not that smart.  I bet she was doing all the investing, etc.

Yeah, saw that one too, Buzzsaw. Though they did remain mute on all the hours Edwards has spent serving working in kitchens for the indigent poor. And washing the feet of lepers.

Yes, I believe he and the cheapskate Bidens volunteered at the same church.  (Remember Joe Biden commenting on his paltry charitable donations on his most recent tax return said that he and Jill volunteer at their church, and their time is money.)

94 Speaking of which, how long do you think before Weiner's career enjoys a re-erection?

He's a D, so all he needs to do is provide some half-assed explanation/apology, and (mostly) all will be forgiven with his stuck-on-stupid constituents.  The more honest ones with young daughters might have a moment of levity when they realize what a scumbag Weiner is, but, in the end, there will be only chaos they'll pull the level for Weiner next year.

100 Edwards was worth tens of millions of dollars - as we were all made aware of during the campaign - and, yet, he had to steal pennies from his campaign funds to pay off his mistress.

Actually the heart of this case is "what is a campaign contribution?". The money that was used to pay off the woman came from a couple of rich friends who sent the money directly to her without it going through Edwards or his campaign.

The feds are referencing a precedent where the courts ruled that any "gifts" to a candidate during a campaign are considered campaign contributions. They consider this hush money as a gift to Edwards.

CoolCzech, #70:  It's like millionaires like Leona Helmsley or Martha Stewart going to prison over - for them - chicken feed.

It's as though they have Maslow's hierarchy of needs taped to their refrigerator and they put a magnet where they think they are. For them it's not about money any more; it's about the power and accompanying status, which has to be flaunted. Their self-esteem comes from letting everyone know that they're special, that the rules for everyone else no longer apply to them. I suspect Edwards wanted the world to know about his "secret" affair and that he broke some regular-people laws. To us, it's sociopathy. To them, it's just how the world is.

I remember the whole thing- I was there.

They were going to indict him and he hopped on his yacht and split.  I lived across the river from Mystic Seaport at the time and his yacht was tied up there.  One evening I watched as they cast off and set out down the river, through the draw bridge, and out to sea.

The next day at work everything was abuzz about how he had fled the country and I was amazed that I stood on the shore and watched him go.

Of course he still had Greek citizenship so that, along with the yacht and the $ went a long way towards keeping him out of the Government's hands.

Posted by: Nighthawk at June 03, 2011 07:16 AM (OtQXp)

228 Kerry got a chill when he heard this, but not for the reason you'd think. He'd got the chill because he remembered Edwards telling him this same story, with the same dead son and the same "And I have never -- told -- anyone" conclusion

Put him on the ticket anyway, of course.

Remember these gems from Rielle:

The story she wanted printed was that Edwards was "an old soul" with a "special energy" who could be a transformational leader like Mahatma Gandhi or the Martin Luther King Jr. if he used his heart more

Asked about Elizabeth Edwards, who is unusually well-liked by political operatives and reporters, Hunter told reporter Jonathan Darman, "She does not give off good energy. ... I've only met her once.... She didn't make eye contact with me."

So hippie aura readings are just about as accurate as you think they would be.

From there, it was a simple matter of uploading the photoshopped picture and sending it to a random large-breasted coed in Seattle that Weiner was accidentally following."

We're willing to give Weiner the benefit of the doubt when he claims his Twitter account was hacked and that he didn't send the picture. That kind of thing, unfortunately, happens all too often these days. That's not to say he gets a free pass; if evidence does emerge that he is sending lewd pictures to young women, he should be held to account for both harassment (the digital equivalent of street flashing) and lying to the public. But no one has presented any such evidence.

A few random speculations.

Silky needed to launder the mistress money because Elizabeth read the banking statements.

The reason this is being prosecuted is because the Mellon chick had buyer's remorse after she found out what pond scum Silky really is/figured out she was footing the bill and started serial bitching to the DOJ. She asked Silky for the money back and he told her to fuck off.

She has lots of money to donate to campaigns. Obama likes donations. "We'll see what we can do." Nice touch that some witnesses are dead.

I like Tapper's remorse here. Wasn't the MFM spiking the story during the 2008 campaign? The tragedy is that had the MFM done their jobs, the Mellon scam would have been averted and by reporting the truth might have saved their hero from a more terrible fate.

Question: Is the Mellon gal related to the evil Richard Mellon Scaife?

Similar in some ways to my theory on Weinergate:

Dork likes attention from young women and young women like attention from Congressjerk.

Flirting in social media is "safe" [i.e., no physical contact]; flirting ensues.

Dork tells young woman she turns him on. Young woman giggles and says prove it. Dork takes and proudly sends penis picture to, eh, prove it.

Hilarity ensues. It's not like its sex sex.

Will Edwards be able to get a special hair care attendant?

I'm sure there will be plenty of boyz in the Big House who would love to play with Edwards hair...

344 what does it say about true love if even those two crazy kids can't make it.  I mean, I thought they were soul mates...or something.

345 The money quote (regarding Ryan's not wanting to run while he has young children) You've run for Congress, you live in Washington, and you're going to get vilified anyways. What's the difference? The difference is that you inherit styrofoam Greek columns!

346 That Edwards/Kerry story may be apocryphal. I've heard a similar one about Kerry and his service in Vietnam. Basically, Kerry is telling someone a tragic story that Kerry claims to never have told anyone before and the listener remembers Kerry telling him the identical thing previously. Of course, they could both be true. But I'd take it with a proverbial grain of salt.

got to 270 to win dot com, then plug the 04 map and switch OH to blue, wow that's 1 ugly map to win with, it would have looked like Kerry lost

My bad... Maybe my memory is failing me but I could swear I once heard Kerry claiming that he'd have won if only 60,0000 voters in Ohio had switched their votes. BTW the 60,000 switching is his way of saying he lost by 120,000.

348 Why in the hell would I want a squishy pretty boy whose hair is better than mine?  I hear there's a NYC-based blogger who's single-handedly taking  down a mega-term congressman.  That's hot!  That's the kind of ewok I'm setting my sights on.  Look out, Acey Baby; here I come!

349 I guess I should have gone to the site before saying my bad... The actual  results of the 04 election was Bush 286 and Kerry 251. Ohio has 20 electoral votes. If Kerry had won Ohio Kerry would have won with 271 electoral votes to GWB's 266.

352 I give Edwards a possibility of a break on his repeating the story to Kerry. My conversation skills stink and I frequently tell stories about what has happened to me instead of make real conversation. Needless to say, I often forget that I have told certain stories before. On the other hand, talking about a dead child is a big deal and the dramatic, "I have never told this to anyone," is hammy.

355 Okay, here's the list we compiled..  Anyone else missing. (You guys have great memories, I'd forgotten half of these fuckers)

This might be a double post- please not to forget Kwami Kilpatrick, an Irish kinsman of JEF O'Bama, and disgraced mayor/pimp of Detroit.

Sadly, I don't think Liz is doing much laughing in Heaven. More like she might get a five minute celebration break from doing the backstroke through the lake of burning hair and tar.

360 Of course there is something wrong with John Edwards, he is a lawyer. Devoid of personality and morals.

362 I just can't understand how a lawyer who used junk science to loot innocent corporations in court to enrich himself could be a psychopath with no empathy for others.
