New Audio Released of Moment Before Reagan Shooting
— Ace

The Secret Service releases a previously withheld tape.

By the way, a new book about the shooting, Rawhide Down (Rawhide was Reagan's Secret Service codename), has just been released. Despite apparently painting a very positive picture of the First Patient...

They decided to call him Mr. Reagan rather than Mr. President; the situation would be less frightening that way. They were amazed by his joking, his courtesy and his general lack of V.I.P. attitude.

They were also impressed by his bravery.

...even the New York Times praises the book.

25 RR was the best President since Thomas Jefferson. I would have loved for him to have the same congress that Bush II had for his first 6 years.

It would also have been good for him to be in office for 4 terms with a rubber stamp Senate. Then maybe we could undo a lot of the damage that the worst President ever did.

26 Yes, but you only get one Reagan every other generation or so.  I'm old enough to have heard Reagan address the Repub Convention in 1964 ( tape delayed to Germany ).  I was impressed. he was Good.  Very Good/

Stop waiting for him to be re-incarnated; find the best conservative candidate and run with him   ( yes I said 'him' ; deal with it )

How about the Fat Man / not Sidney Greenstreet?  Not Reagan, eh?  Not conservative enough?  How about if he's the only R who can defeat Hussein

34 OT: State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley told an audience at MIT on Thursday that he thought the Defense Department’s treatment of alleged WikiLeaks source Private Bradley Manning was “ridiculous and counterproductive and stupid.” --- “One young man said he wanted to address ‘the elephant in the room’. What did Crowley think, he asked, about Wikileaks? About the United States, in [the questioner's] words, ‘torturing a prisoner in a military brig’? Crowley didn’t stop to think. What’s being done to Bradley Manning by my colleagues at the Department of Defense ‘is ridiculous and counterproductive and stupid.’

The book records the utter amazement of, for instance, Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger at Mr. Haig’s “Dr. Strangelove”-style meltdown.

Like those of...Caspar Weinberger.

Not sure if serious.

It's Renegade. Secret Service "code names" are PR, not code names. They send out press releases with the SECRET in them.

LBJ's and Bush II's SS names were personal insults. Obama's unfortunately isn't, unless it's the world's subtlest Freudian Styx joke.

49 A note to our posters. Apostrophe s ('s) does not denote multiple quantities. It denotes the possessive case, as in the phrase : "Flerp's brass knuckles". Who do the brass knuckles belong to? Why, Flerp, so they are Flerp's brass knuckles. However, they are not Flerp's brass knuckle's. ...and Flerp is trying very hard not to use them every day.

I only bother to bother you all - because I have noticed an increasing incidence of 's misuse lately. Just for fun, try and note when people mispronounce height as "hyth" (pronounced 'hite'). It seems to have become quite commonplace these days.

That's one of my pet peeves as well, though I'd point out the whole thing gets a little murky at the boundaries.  For example, suppose you have a man named Smith.  Mr Smith has a family.  They live in a house.  You could say it's Mr Smith's house, but more correct (in a community property state, anyway) would be to say it's the Smiths' house.

Now suppose his name was Mr Bess.

57 We're going to see the Smiths, at Smith's. We're going to the Smiths'.
It's a form of engineering, and it's possible to do it as an equation, too, except we quit teaching that because it's too hard. Damaged GPA's.

"It" is a special material, and there are special handling rules.
You can teach English to engineers, but do it as a foreign language.
