— Ace They definitely nailed the costume.

No, but seriously, the headline is accurate: they did release new stills, including of the Red Skull, who is, what's the right word?, red skullish.
Thanks to for tipping me to that funny picture.

I read that comic book religiously as a kid, so I kinda feel like I gotta see it. But it looks kinda dorky.

I liked the original one.
What organization is the Red Skull a part of in this movie, since the NAZI thing has been beaten to death by hollywood?

I keep hearing ads for a new mini series on TNT produced by Spielberg.
It sounds a lot like a War of the Worlds ripoff.

Has anyone seen the Green Lantern yet? Is is just opening up today?

It's getting terrible reviews. I read it had a budget of 150 million, so they better hope it does well if they want to make their money back.

What the hell was I thinking.
Of COURSE Captain American is NOT going to be fighting Nazis here.
You can't stick swaztikas on plastic dolls and sell them to kids at Walmart, which by itself pretty much means no Nazis in the comic book movie.
A quick check shows he's fighting "HYDRA" which I guess is some sort of stand-in for the Nazis. You can see the skull/octopus insignia on Red Skulls shoulder in the above still.

He will be fighting the Nazis and the Red Skull, who is working with the Nazis.
And Chris Christie.

This is the comic that introduced Captain America to the world. It was in March 1941 before the USA entered the war.

Why is Capt Alabama's beer glowing?
Because it's not beer. If that's Captain Alabama, then that's his own urine.
'Cause that's how they roll in LA

The best way I can explain moral authority is to use an example. Do you read comics? If so, I point to exhibit A or moral authority, Captain America.
Captain America would always do the right thing, and by doing so, he inspired his fellow heroes to follow his example. Even though a mere mortal with powers far surpassed by most other superheroes, he LED the Avengers, which included powerhouses such as Hulk and even gods in Hercules and Thor. They all believed in the goodness of Captain America.
The antithesis to Captain America would be Frank Castle, aka Punisher. He also went after bad guys, just as zealously as other heroes. But he had no moral compunctions, for him, the ends justified the means. And while he struck fear in the thugs of the world, he never shone light in the cities he staked out. Citizens feared him just as much as the criminals he fought.
So in conclusion, moral authority is what Captain America represents. It's something that President Obama is bringing back to our great nation.

I was thinking more along the lines of that really humongous Code Pink Chick--the one who's panis cannot be contained--kind of like a hydra.

Is Captain America going to be fighting actual Nazis in this film?
I watched the trailer again (how I suffer) because I thought it was actualfax Nazis. It doesn't look that way but if not it's close enough not to matter. Also the tagline on IMDB includes "a superhero dedicated to defending America's ideals." so it looks like no blue helmet, at least not yet.
I love Chris Evans so I'm v v excited about this. (Obligatory go watch Sunshine now plug here)
Green Hornet? It looks horrific and, hell, I watched Chaos Theory just because Ryan Reynolds was in it. So if I think a superhero movie with Ryan Reynolds looks too sucky to see? Yeah.

I'm surprised that Hollywood didn't make Captain America a dark-skinned woman with lesbian tendencies
I'd watch that. Hell, I think I've written that fanfic.
IIRC, there was a lot of talk from those in the production that we aren't going to wuss out on the whole America part of Captain American unlike other movies *koff*superman*koff* when this was first in production.

You know what else the Nazis did after they first persecuted the unions? The Nazis forced circumcision on all the Germans.
Then the Nazis lowered taxes and forced everyone to but SUVs.

Making a movie based around a comic book character or a video game is a chore because while the producers need more than just the fan-boys (and girls) attendance to make the movie profitable, said fan-boys (and girls) are the movie's primary audience. If you change the characters too much, non-fans won't notice the difference, but you will infuritate the fans, as they'll wonder why things were changed from the original media. In this respect, they can't change the character of the Captain too much, but they could still pull a "Superman Returns" and omit parts of the "American" portion from the character.

I'm going to watch it with the family later today (pre-Dad's Day). From the trailers, the alternate title should be The Ring Chooses the Frat Boy. Hopefully Frat Boy grows up by the end.

Chris Christie, on the other hand, is not a gay-lovin' RINO squish. Or, if he is, then that's the one true political position, the one Jehovah revealed to George Washington on Mt. Rushmore.
Now excuse me while I doodle little hearts on the cover of my Trapper-Keeper.

The Avengers is published by Marvel.
Thanks for the answer, I'd gotten that mixed up myself.
The Avengers = Iron Man, Nick Fury, Captain America, Thor and the Hulk (??!!)
I'll note that the Avengers movie is in production and being directed/written by Joss Whedon.
I'm not sure I should be in my bunk or weeping...also, SkankJo is reprising her role from Ironman 2. Eh.
