New Green Lantern Trailer Fills Me With The Yellow Light of Fear
— Ace

I like Green Lantern. Yes, I had an opinion when they got rid of Hal Jordan and replaced him with some Gen Y artist. My opinion was I hate you.

And I like Hal Jordan, and oh, here he is.

And I like Ryan Reynolds, who made me laugh in Blade III. And who was good in the not-as-bad-as-you'd-assume Amityville Horror remake.

And I like Blake Lively, who turns in a nuanced, playful performance as Serena every week on Gossip Girl. Oh, I mean she's hot.

I like the Corps. I like the oath. And I know the oath. At least the first stanza. If there's more, okay, I don't know that.

But... did no one question this suit?

The CGI is out of hand here. I can look past the injudicious use of CGI for everything because there are a lot of aliens to represent.

But they're using CGI to create a costume; costumes were, previously, represented on screen by something called "actual costumes."

Okay, I'll still see it. But there's a reason I talk about Captain America and not Green Lantern, and seriously, I like GL.

But my willpower is failing me.

I had hoped there would be some kind of online outcry about this suit that would cause them to stop with this nonsense. I guess there wasn't.

Okay, I am officially starting it then: For the love of Oa, get rid of the flashy light crap on that disco suit.

Piper Laurie and Adam Sandler just both emailed me: "They're all going to laugh at you! They're all going to laugh at you!"

Costume is stupid.

I think everytime I've criticized the trailer has involved blasting the suit.  They were fucking idiots to decide to never make him wear a suit and go with a MoCap that they could just "paint" whatever they wanted onto him as the costume.  He'll have no realy connection to it as far as I'm concerned.

And then after the trailer is released many criticized the costume and they didn't consider going back and maybe altering it?  It couldn't be that hard to alter the CGI of the costume after the trailer if they really needed to.  And the really needed to.

ohhhhh yes he does...

And so does his daughter.  Here's the little insight for you.  The original Clone Wars premiere movie.  Jabba's gay gangster cousin.  They had to go with that voice because that's what Lucas wanted.  Also as I said his daughter is involved on the show.  She got to be the one to come up with using Darth Maul's brother as a bad guy?  The name she came up with?  Savage Opress.

But then Lucas got his hands on it and no you can't just call him Savage Opress.  It must be pronounced "Sah-vazh"  The zh being the same way you would pronounce Zha Zha Gabore's first name.

So yes he does have involvement, and if you see something that seems really dumb, its probably there because of him.

95 You know, I feel like Aquaman gets an unfair rap as a "useless" superhero. He still has superstrength, and he's bulletproof. I wouldn't make fun of anyone who could throw a car at me, even if some of his other powers are rarely useful.

Trust.

The.

Nolan.

Really? Should I?

The Dark Knight wasn't very good. The only reason it got such good reviews was Heath Ledger's Joker.

The Joker is one of the best villans in any comic books.

While I did think Nolan did a great job in Batman Begins, especially with one of the lesser identifiable Batman enemies Ra Al Gul, the Dark Knight's plot was awful.  Also as I've said many many times before, Maggie Gyllenhaal is your local bar after 3 beers hot, not big time movie hot. She isn't even a very good actor.

There are plenty of other Batman villans they could have chosen.  A very dark and psychotic genius version of the Riddler could be good, as long as they stay away from the fruitie Robin Williams type Riddler that Jim Carey played. If you want to be CGI happy then Clayface.  Bane is good character, so I'm glad he's going to be in the next film.

Or even Mr. Zsasz as a semi-believable psychopathic killer if you want to take Batman back to his original "detective" roots as Nolan kinda tried to do in the Dark Knight with all the scenes of Batman doing forensic work.

Clearly you haven't seen Inception.

As I said above, he did a great job with Batman Begins and he did it with a lesser known Batman enemy.  So it's not that I don't like Nolan, I do for the most part. However when given probably the greatest comic book villan ever, he screwed the pooch. You can't f%ck up the joker, it's not possible. However you can screw up the rest of the movie.

The plot made no sense. The fight scenes were pointless, specifically the 10 minute car chase.  The beginning was awful too.  In the last film the Scare Crow is this badass genius who almost turns Gotham into a town of raving lunatics, and in the second film he's a pathetic drug dealer dispatched in 30 seconds.

121 John Stewart will always be the wimpy GL to me because of the Crisis on Infinite Earths. When the Guardians of the Universe saw the end of the universe coming, they said, "Oh, this is our fault, and we have to take our punishment rather than do anything about it." A splinter group broke off, saying, "No, because this is our fault, we have to stop it rather than let everybody else die." This latter group made Guy Gardner a GL, and John Stewart actually tried to stop him from preventing the end of the universe. Guy kicked his ass for it.

I guess, the scarecrow is a great villan though. But they turned him into a helpless pussy.

Look  almost every scene with the Joker in the  Dark Knight was good, the rest of the film, meh.

The best scenes in the film is the Joker showing up at the mob meeting, the Joker and Batman in the holding cell, the Joker kidnapping Harvey Dent, and the Joker's dialogue at the very end of the movie.

138 I'm a little distracted by the suit's look -- weirdly stringy over the chest with all those lines -- but I've got no problem with the concept of CGIing the suit for Green Lantern. Hell, his whole power is based on green light that takes form from his will; if that's not a near-perfect analogy for CGI, what is?

Don't blame Hal. Who can tell with aliens? Plus, she made herself look over eighteen. (Not kidding. This was actually a thing in the late eighties.) Just about all of his other relationships have been with contemporaries. (The alleged current relationship notwithstanding -- and, as often as they've been seen together in the last two or three years, it's hardly much of a relationship at that.)
