— Ace Romney actually doing himself some good in the debates, which I must assume is mostly from the first debate, because last night he was weak.
What the Gallup Organization calls the "positive intensity score" shows Perry holding strong at 24. However, for the first time since Perry surged to the front of the GOP field, Romney's score has increased significantly. In a new rating just released, Gallup shows that with a month to compare the two men, Romney's score has surged from 11 just two weeks ago to 16 now.
At the same time, the scores for two GOP women have faded. With Perry in the race, Michele Bachmann's score has dropped from 13 to 10. And the train appears to be leaving the station for Sarah Palin's hypothetical candidacy; her score plunged from 16 to 10. The scores for both women are new lows for 2011.
A woman just cried hysterically to me that these new polling scores gave her pet chinchilla a learning disability.

For myself, I wasn't at all enthused in 1999 about his becoming president -- about how I feel about Romney now.

And it goes to show that Bachman (who is supposed to be 'the TRUE' conservative') is hurting Perry almost as much as herself.
That is, people are still leaving her, but they're headed to Romney instead of Perry.
Seriously, folks- which of these two do you think is more conservative over all? If it's Romney, tell me something positive he actually did in office.

Perry/Romney in '12.
They will cut each others throats til the bitter end, then Perry pulls a rabbit out of his hat named Mittens who effectively and in his oiliest out-Romney's himself defending Perry, making any attempts by Obama to "recycle" the mud slung in the primaries moot.
In return Perry stops boning Romney's wife.
They win 35 states.

Romney was pretty weak for the first half, so anyone who tuned in early to see what was going on and went back to the game probably sees it like ace. I don't think Romney improved much in the second half, it was more a matter of Perry wobbling on the crony capitalism thing (I don't think the evidence is as damning as Bachmann does, but then again her campaign is drowning) and, let's face it, falling apart on immigration.
Perry's still the best in the field all-around, but he needs to get some nuance worked into that shit.

I was starting to like Romney again until last night's debate. The guy is just too much of a politician. I really didn't like the way he was defending SS as constitutional and "good." Done with him.
Still don't like Perry though. I like a lot of what he's saying right now, but I just know him too well, he's a liar and I don't think he's electable.
I wish Paul was more popular, people won't even give him a chance to explain himself. The GOP is just rabidly anti-Muslim and this clouds people from even considering another point of view. More than this it's a Evangelical-style busy-body attitude that America can do no wrong. Piss on everybody else, our way or the highway. You don't like us, you don't think like us, screw you, you're in the wrong. I really think this will be our undoing. We lip service the Constitution when it comes to Obamacare and taxes, but somehow those same rules don't apply to our absolutely insane and wildly-out-of-proportion-with-reality military spending. All because of 19 dudes with boxcutters... they seriously turned us upside down. Paul does have kind of a crazy old man look and feel, but what he says is right on the money and he couldn't be more consistent.
I like Cain a lot, but that guy is just too uninformed.
Bachman, nag, nag, nag, nag, nag.
I think we're screwed personally
Romney has best chance against Obama probably, but he's a RINO. I really just don't like any of them.

Me, too. Like I said, it seem strange to me that he was Moderate-to-liberal enough for MA (it is quite frequently pointed out that he had to deal with a (super?) majority Dem legislature), and yet we should be sure he's conservative enough.
I think this point merits some discussion- Is he just a political chameleon who will say whatever it takes to get elected- regardless of his own beliefs? Is he truly conservative (if so, please present evidence)? Or was he really liberal enough that the same people who voted in very liberal Democrats felt safe voting him into office as well?
Cause, as I see them, the two of those three that are most likely are 1 and 3.
Yeah except Romneycare is an ideological difference.
And that actually makes me think more highly of Romney than of Bachman. Her "Gardisil causes Down's Syndrome" statement was beyond stupid, but I'm more incensed by her allegation of criminal corruption in the Gardisil EO issue.

I was shocked to hear Palin channel Baucman last night. I'm done with both. Palin was already getting on my nerves with her drag-out-itus, but it was driving the MFM crazier than me so I "was" ok with it. Now that Perry is in the race, it's time for the GOP to close ranks. Fight it out ok, but no head-shots.
Not too much blood in the water would be better than the establishment and MFM picking Romney for us only for 6 years worth of new dirt to come out at him in the general. They will hammer him and make him appear unelectable to a vast number of us, hoping we'll stay home.
Perry will take Baucman out in Iowa and she'll be done. He will be a close second in NH and will win SC. By SC, the bottom six better drop out.... and please god, no Perry/Romney ticket... noooo to Romney... period.
I'll vote for anyone but Obama, but I'd really like some states-rights and small government conservatives to take the reins...

97,99 - Classic example of what I'm talking about. When did Paul BLAME America for 9/11? Try seeing past the ends of your own nose.
True or False that the USA has bases in virtually all Middle Eastern countries? True or False that the USA props up illegitimate and incredibly brutal regimes in the ME?
It's simply a statement of fact. This statement of fact isn't blaming America. The blame goes on the terrorists. It's simply analyzing the motives of the terrorists. The standard line is that they attacked us because they hate us because we're free, they were "attacking freedom." It's just absolute folly. No honest person with any experience in that part of the world would support this nonsense.
If you want to see people that hate freedom, look at the DNC roster, not random Muslims living in the ME.

He didn't propose it and it wouldn't have mattered if he was against it....

I think Dave's point isn't the issue itself, which is defensible, but the idea that you can't have a principled discussion about illegal immigration without the idea of "bigotry" coming up.

What a steaming pile of Obama fertilizer. Perry and Romney are duds, each appearance demonstrating why they are the Bobbsie twins of the welfare state.
Someone remind me why I should vote for them? If Obama wanted an opponent he could beat he couldn't have done better than these two RINOs.

Deer Rick Perry:
Get those silly notions of amnesty/DREAM Act nonsense out of your haid. And maybe building a fence on our side of the Rio Grande isn't the best use of resources, but the rest of it? build it, build it as fast as humanly possible.
Maybe fill the Rio Grande with crocodiles? that works for me.

Dave, I don't know why he hasn't explained it like that except that he might have been told to embrace it and may actually support it. The dynamic here in Texas is different... esp south Texas where it is a VERY different dynamic. I still support him and hope that he better articulates his defenses, and does not fall prey to the Bush line, where you take false accusations and allow the political enemy to frame the debate until it becomes the new baseline... unable to deny or fight the smear with context and truth.
For wanting to rein in the Federal Reserve and kill the regulatory enviornment in Washington DC is enough for me...

Let me know when any of the global warmist solutions lead to infants dying of measles. The quackery about vaccinations is the exact same line of thought that's lead to millions dying of malaria in Africa due to Carson's Silent Spring diatribe against DDT. I don't really get that fired up about most political issues, but when those positions directly lead to the deaths of people who have no say in the matter, I get livid. This is anti-science.

False. But, in fact, when Paul made his statement about our troops being in, what, 130 countries, he included Marines who guard the embassies.
So on top of everything else, Ron Paul is a deceitful little worm.

Amishdude.... I agree. I'm not happy with any remarks like " that's bigoted" that slam the door on honest debate. That is the way the left argue and we should be able to stay above that....
Inarticulate and I hope he gets better... He needs some help in coaching and reading the electorate.

No, it's pro-science, because they are scientists and we must believe whatever they say. And those other "scientists" are just working for big pharma.

More specifically, Merck employees donated that much.
Wouldn't much matter until crony capitalism is brought up in the conversation by one of the beneficiaries of those donations, and whose state employed federal aid to help put the Merck product into mass useage in aforementioned state.

It takes a real druggie to believe the State should be able to inject anyone for any reason it deems "good." Too bad Romney and Perry believe the State has the power to do this.
I guess this means all the Romney-Perry supporters out there are crazy and/or support Obamacare.

134, I personally have been on military bases in almost every middle eastern country. I've been on military bases in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Turkey, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, and Afghanistan. And I know of an even longer list that I haven't personally set foot on. Care to try again?
Without exception, every single monarch/dictator in the Arabian peninsula was put in power by the West, mostly the British/French empires. Post WW2 the USA has stepped into that role though of keeping these people in power. We can debate about the full extent of our influence/support, but it's the indisputable truth.
And notice I didn't mention Israel, but obviously that's a pretty darn big one too.
Posted by: Andrew at September 13, 2011 01:29 PM (FuDT3)
Vaccination is an entirely mainstream view, held by almost all Americans.
You can argue that it's wrong, and probably make a very good case, but that does put you on the fringe.
You shouldn't be surprised that every major candidate supports something that almost all Americans support.

I didn't catch that... and I don't like the race card. Ever.
I have lived in TX since 1978. A lot of Mexicans and TexMex's live here too, and have for generations. Therein lies the problem.
I was against this act, but it was very popular here, IIRC. I think there were only 4 votes against it in the legislature.
The political impact has been quite good.... for 'pubbies. In fact, the 2010 election was a watershed event for TexMex politicians. A lot were elected as 'pubbies. More switched parties afterward to the 'pubbie side. 'pubbies=strong. dhims=weak.
Why, as someone once said, people want to follow a strong horse, not a weak horse.
I am complete ABO, but I much prefer Rick to Mitt.

Actually, though I defend Perry a lot, I kinda caught that too with his 'no matter what your last name is' thing.
However, he wasn't targeting anyone in particular. That was, at minimum, a play for hispanics. Perry deserves criticism on immigration generally, but mainly I think for not supporting E-Verify.

Besides, that was just Gallup.
Rasmussen shows Romney holding strong against Obama, while Perry has fallen behind Obama.
In PPP, Perry was behind Obama by six and is now behind eleven. Romney is still trailing Obama by 5.

A fringe view. Projecting aren't you? If the government said you had to take a vaccine to ward off STDs you believe most Americans would accept this?
I think you have demonstrated exactly how extreme you are. But then again you probably need this sort of shot, although the disease has rotten most of your mind all ready.

Um, no. Almost every parent in the nation gladly vaccinates their children, and is glad that most of their children's peers are vaccinated.

For years we've had Hep B vaccine requirements. "
Hepatitis B is transmitted through blood and infected bodily fluids. This can occur through:
direct blood-to-blood contactunprotected sexunsterile needlesfrom an infected woman to her newborn during the delivery process.Other possible routes of infection include sharing sharp instruments such as razors, toothbrushes or earrings. Body piercing, tattooing and acupuncture are also possible routes of infection unless sterile needles are used
Hepatitis B is NOT transmitted casually. It cannot be spread through sneezing, coughing, hugging or eating food prepared by someone who is infected with hepatitis B. Everyone is at some risk for a hepatitis B infection, but some groups are at higher risk because of their occupation or life choices."

Okay Burger, I'm from the government and you need to take this vaccine (the same one we gave to some black prisoners) but surely you don't mind.
Yes you have a fringe view and your mind has been warped. Most Americans do not want the government dictating what is put into their bodies, you might notice that if you ever bothered to read the Constitution.
But I forgot, with your condition you can't possibly be capable of reading or absorbing what is obvious to the casual observer rather than repeating bumper sticker slogans.

Stace:
The government mandates HepB injections? Pray tell where are they mandatory.
Now with your amazing intellect where did I specify Hep B. I said STDs of which Hep B is not known as a primarily sexually transmitted disease. So I guess you are projecting like Burgerboy. Who seems to know what strangers think but which evidence contradicts.
The issue remains whether the government has the right to mandate medical treatment that does not impact public safety. I hope you do not share the views of the Burger, since you appear to have some knowledge of medical conditions.
