Newt's New Ad: Winning the Argument
— Ace

It features him at a debate, which is smart, as he's running on that, and opens up cleverly in a four-man shot of Romney, Perry, and Paul nodding as he speaks.

Pretty good.

Sorry about the hour away; I was doing the podcast thing.

Newt can sell himself as well as ideas.

What I like about newt is his ability to inform.  It's stands in stark contrast to Obama.  Obama can't teach.  He can only tempt.

Newt is the consummate professor and Obama is the guy 'playing' the professor (no offense meant to R.Hinkley).

Or if you prefer something a little more recent than KAAAAAAAHN!, you can always say, "Barack Obama is a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable failure."

Same idea, really.

Or you could go old-school:

"Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering SCOAMF; to the last I grapple with thee; from hellÂ’s heart I stab at thee; for hateÂ’s sake I spit my last breath at thee. Sink all coffins and all hearses to one common pool! and since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned whale! Thus, I give up the spear!"

He didn't do so well either on being forced to backtrack on his criticism of Romney's use of the mandate. In a national election a similar mistake would be put on a continuous loop on the news. He's a bold debater but he's not a good debater.

I rather doubt anyone in Washington can even spell "conservative mandate" given the results from 2010's midterm thrashing of the Dims in the House.

WTF, if anything, has changed? We're still boned. Not one federal program has had its budget reduced and they're getting ready to raise the debt ceiling again. We're still swimming in red ink and there's no end to it. I coulda swore the House had the pursestrings, but you'd never know it.

We will collapse under the weight of the Socialist SCOAMF and his Cloward-Piven strategy of bankrupting the nation.

26 - I agree with all of that.

Newt's the best at articulating a message, but the problem is you don't know which one he believes in today or what he'll support tomorrow.  He's aptly comparable to Cicero in terms of both debating skill and dubious loyalties, as well as his ability to inspire both admiration and spite.

Romney isn't going to inspire comparisons to any Roman politicians, on the other hand, suffers from the same ideological promiscuity, and I think his Mormonism's more of a stumbling block than many supporters fully appreciate - not personally, but among voters in general.

Perry would have to make a 120+ degree turnaround in terms of demonstating political skills to win me back.  I'm still more than mildly astonished at how poorly he's performed given his level of experience in fairly high-profile races.

Right now I'm holding out for the slim chance another candidate seizes the opportunity to jump in late, a brokered convention, or First Contact with an alien federation of small government supporters.  And no, Paulbots, that doesn't mean you.
