Non-Union Boss Shot By Likely Union Member In Intimidation Operation
— Ace

In Michigan:

Last Wednesday, however, the attacks on Mr. King became much more serious when he was awakened late in the evening at his home in Monroe County, Michigan and saw that the motion lights in his driveway had come on. When he looked out his front window, he saw a figure near his SUV and went outside.

As soon as he got outside his front door, King yelled at the individual who was crouched down by KingÂ’s vehicle. As soon as King yelled, the suspect stood and, without hesitation, fired a shot at Mr. King.

Luckily for King, as he yelled, he also stumbled. If it werenÂ’t for that, however, John KingÂ’s injuries might have been much, much worse. In fact, he might have been killed.

Upon scrambling back into his house, King got to his cell phone and called 911. However, due to the pain in his knees and shoulder from falling, King was unaware that he had been shot in the arm.

...

While neither the police, nor Mr. King can say which union was behind the attack, it is very clear by the word ‘scab’ scrawled on his SUV that it the attack was union-related.

...

The Monroe County SheriffÂ’s office is encouraging anyone with information to call 734-240-7530.

In addition, Mr. King is offering a $10,000 reward for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

I realize this is somewhat tangential, but what's up with that "suspect" thing? If Mr. King has a bullet hole in his arm, I think it is safe to say that there is a perpetrator. This is not a "suspected shooting", and there does not appear to be any suspect. But if there were, it is unlikely Mr. King would be offering a reward for his arrest and conviction. Like, "We suspect Bob, so here's ten grand if you can frame him!".

I know, I shouldn't get so excited about this stuff.

7 Are we going to hear more from liberals in the media and democrat politicians about how the tea party people are ginning up the anger? Are terrorists? I am so fed up with media people and democrat bitching about the tea party and completely ignoring the behavior of union members. Maybe Jon Stewart can go to Monroe, Michigan and hold one of his famous Play Nice Rallies.

27 Obama is a piece of shit, in case you didn't know. Shortly before the 9/11 anniversary, he says this:

"The risk that we're especially concerned over right now is the lone wolf terrorist, somebody with a single weapon being able to carry out wide-scale massacres of the sort we saw in Norway recently," said Obama.

He was referring to Anders Behring Breivik, who shot dead 69 people, many of them teenagers, in a July 22 rampage on the island of Utoeya after killing eight others in a bombing of government offices in Oslo.

"When you've got one person who is deranged or driven by a hateful ideology they can do a lot of damage and it's a lot harder to trace those lone wolf operators," he added.

29 From Gateway Pundit describing an open telephone call by union leaders against Verizon:
As the CWA picketing of Verizon continues it seems some of the union leadership is becoming more and more unhinged. Apparently one member of the union leadership went so far as to instruct his members, by way of publicly accessible telephone hotline, that it is now “open season” on “managers and scabs”. The thug went on to say that union members should “follow them” and “torture them, torture them with chants and noise”.

I"m sure Barry will admonish them any minute now.

No one who knows REAL union people is surprised at this. The whole union thug thing isn't just a myth. Here's what happens during a strike, they have plenty of time on their hands to sit in taverns and get liquored up, then they get all pissy about scabs taking the food out of their children's mouths. Then a few of them, not many, engage in out of control behavior. More often vandalism, but once in while smacking someone up side the head. My dad never did anything like that because, quite frankly he despised the union members who were lazy, drunks.

You know what they need is more people on food stamps.  Didn't they just kick all the college kids off teh food stamps in Michigan?

Our esteemed Agriculture Secretary has declared teh food stamp program to be a big jobs creator.  He said "when you talk about the SNAP program or the food stamp program, you have to recognize that it's also an economic stimulus. Every dollar of SNAP benefits generates $1.84 in the economy in terms of economic activity. If people are able to buy a little more in the grocery store, someone has to stock it, package it, shelve it, process it, ship it. All of those are jobs."

So there you have it my friends.  Get more people on food stamps then their will be jobs galore for the union workers and the non union workers!

(then the skittle shitting rainbow unicorns will appear too)

OH, I know!  Pocketed that sweet, over payed pay check.

And probably never hesitated to screw those with less seniority or who were part time workers (who do the same work, but get no benefits and no regular schedule).

Unions, public ones too, as long as they protect themselves are willing to hire others, but not provide the same benefits or job security.

They aren't fighting for workers rights, they are fighting for their privileges and own good deal.  Nothing else.

66 "and, PoP, don't forget about when Martha Coakley's union thug buddy shoved that reporter to the ground twice.

Coakley, the chief law enforcement officer in the commonwealth, standing just a few feet away claimed she saw nothing."

In this state bullshit "prevailing wage" laws and the ability of a union to 'represent' and collect 'dues' from your paycheck without your consent pretty much make it impossible to do any kind of public work without being extorted or face anti-competitive measures. There's no freedom of association and the state/unions have free license to discriminate against nonunion members in a labor monopoly of some sectors. The whole thing is crooked and someone should have taken it to the supreme court by now.

But of course this is Massachusetts where Democrats have pretty much institutionalized corruption and made most challenges to their power highly improbably since the 1960s. Being caught with a live boy or a dead girl guarantees reelection here, where almost everywhere else the opposite would be true.

81 84 Turning the other cheek allows one to choose which side of your ass gets kicked.

Posted by: Confucius says at August 16, 2011 10:42 PM (bZ8J6)

That's misunderstood. Turning the other cheek means ignoring an insult (by taunting).

A Roman soldier was able to abuse the local population under his control but there were a number of limits.  One was that he could only slap your cheek once unprovoked. Again, this wasn't an act of real violence, it was an act of authority.

So when he slapped your cheek, you either get angry and then he has grounds to do much worse or you slink away. But by proudly presenting your other cheek, you defy and taunt him because he can't go further.

The parallel is that if they call you a scab, you might smile and give them a little salute or if they poke you in the chest with their finger, puff it up.

But "turn the other cheek" doesn't mean you have to submit to violence.

87 #75, I'm an architect that occasionally works on public housing projects. It's infuriating dealing with sleazy public officials and managers on this stuff. Not to mention 'community' development corporations, which are nothing but scummy developers, half the time not even from the actual community, with bullshit PR and taxpayer money underwriting investments risk free. Not to mention all the "community groups" extorting "linkage" funding for programs which skim 'overhead' off everything. Many of the highly compensated members of the "community groups"  don't live anywhere remotely near the community in question either. Outright scams facilitated by the government which often do neighborhoods a real disservice.

Seeing private contractors not allowed to bid, or even work on sites through discriminatory practices and then watching the end product cost twice has much for half the quality really boils my blood. If it weren't a paycheck, which half the time the fuckers take forever to pay, we wouldn't be in the business with them.

92 A Roman soldier was able to abuse the local population under his control but there were a number of limits.  One was that he could only slap your cheek once unprovoked. Again, this wasn't an act of real violence, it was an act of authority.

Sounds like violence to me. I tell you what, come slap me and see what happens next. It will look somewhat like violence.

93 No, sorry, it's not predicated on some half-arsed bromide about purported Roman law. It's simply what it is: you submit to violations of yourself. The larger point is that there is never any indication that you allow people to commit violence against innocents: we are to defend the helpless.

That seems more likely. Otherwise the question arises 'If Jesus was a pacifist, why was Peter carrying a sword?'

96 In all seriousness we need to be prepared for the violent left. As their ideology, institutions, and political power crumble under their own weight they will get violent.   And alot of this is our fault. We let them get this bold. I remember watching a clip on Newsbusters and a local TV station is doing a story in California about Prop 8 and a little old lady is in the frame and all of a sudden a dude gets directly in her face, his finger ready to punch a hole in her skull and screams "Get out of here you Christian bitch!!" He should have been stomped to the pavement, he wasn't because no one bothered. The left does not fuck around with black people for one simple reason had they done that in front of Bayview Baptist that dude would have gone to the ER, period.   Now we are in the position of having to face an enraged and emboldened left. Our cold civil war is going to get real hot...

I've got a question: why do you folks design those buildings so that people automatically urinate and defecate in the hallways, and shoot out the windows? And get stoned and forget to show up to work? Don't they teach classes on how to design subsidized/free housing that makes people better? Okay, that was three questions.

The same thing as any thug, from gangbangers to 'governments' thinks. If they try it once and get away with it, they quickly come to the (false) conclusion that no one will ever stand up to them as it's too much of a risk.

This is an obvious fallacy as their own observable willingness to violence implies the possiblity for others to consider a similar approach to a solution.

Mossberg HS410 shotgun retrofitted with a pistol grip stock, about $250 in stores or at Bud's Gun Shop online.  The .410 shell I use is 000 buckshot and also works in the Judge Public Defender, a handgun which may be more difficult to handle than the shotgun.  The PD is about $350.  I live in a small house in a closely spaced subdivision and have the same considerations you do,

Yes, the doc and his nurse/assistant did.  They were awesome.  You know, the hippy types are great with animals; birds of a feather.  It was so hard, but if it's easy, you're evil.

Thanks for the recco.  I routinely qualified expert in the Army Reserve.  I went to Camp Minnehaha in West Va as a kid and learned to shoot .22s.  In Basic, when we were doing initial zeroing -- not qual -- but zeroing, I put 3 tight 3 shot groups pretty much in the inner rings.  The Ft. Leonard Wood CSM was evaluating us.  He was walking down the targets (our rifles had been emptied and secured).  When he got to mine, he stopped, double taked, looked back at me, gave me a thumbs up, and said loudly, "now that's how we do things here."  :->  When I became an officer, I wore my expert badge on my dress uniform.  More than one officer told me that was improper.  I then quoted them chapter and verse from the uniform regs and said there's no exception for officers.  If they can find it, I will remove it.  I think what they meant was custom -- because too many officers sucked at marksmanship. I never removed it.  The enlisted generally loved my no-nonsense, no-stupid, all-practical attitude (I was a forward signal platoon leader in the guard and reserves.)

135 I've never liked handguns.  Fired a few in Reno, but I'm a rifle guy.  Or better yet, gimme arty.  Pulled the lanyard on a 155 once.  Wow.  Even taught myself how to call fire support by polar shift.  That's some cool shit.  Normally, if they teach ROTC cadets how to call arty, it's by grid, which they teach along with map reading.  That is, you need to know where you are on the map and where the target is on the map.  Then you tell the arty folks miles away what grid square to hit.  Meh.  Cadre was pretty impressed.  At the time (1991) I wanted to go active duty.  Problem was, my personality was bettered suited to S-3 (ops) which looeys don't go into, so I got a reserve commission.

On one ROTC advanced camp lane, when I was platoon leader, I was told no friendlies in the area.  On our recon we heard a voice cry out as if a wounded American GI.  I told my platoon to keep on moving, no friendlies, and if there is a dumbass American out here, our mission takes priority.  Sorry.  There's a war to win.  Cadre wouldn't let me.  Had to attempt a rescue.  Obvious ambush so I asked for smoke from divarty.  Nope.  Brigade?  BN?  Alright.  Feinted a move towards the wounded guy, drew sniper fire, and basically cut the forest down.  Cadre was pissed.  Kobiyashi Maru.  Heh.

One day I was the cadet company commander.  We had a very active and challenging day with all kinds of things to coordinate.  End of day we had final formation.  After the platoons formed up and reported in, I dismissed the company.  The other cadets (keep in mind we're competing with each other) were dumbfounded.  "You can't do that, you have to turn it over to the platoons so they looeys can turn it over to the platoon sergeant thence to squad leaders!"  Response?  "It's my fucking company."  Company formations are neither games of falling dominos nor long, drawn out meetings.  It was a long day.  If my platoon leaders had not taken care of business by that time, they sucked, and it wouldn't have mattered.  Anyway, the platoon leader can always tell his/her platoon to stand fast.

I might be missing it, but I couldn't find mention of the incident at all on the local county news site: http://tinyurl.com/3cnhl7a There's nothing on the Sheriff's office site about it - which, if there was some kind of manhunt underway, you'd expect, especially since the quotes in the blog report show the victim praising the Sheriff's office. I'm not saying this had no union connection, because I just don't know - but, so far as I can tell, neither does anyone else here - including the victim; but I am saying a lot are making much from not much so far. That could change, and pretty quick: after all, if the perp IS union, the Sheriff's office is unlikely have much difficulty tracking him. I want to see enough on this to justify going off more cocked than half or less.

Unions are the SCABS and the Enemy of hard working taxpayers.  Unions give unqualified people jobs that are grossly overpaid in all areas, including benifits.  Most Union workers could not make it in the private workforce because they are used to being paid for doing nothing.  Unions remind me of Affirmative Action, putting Idiots into jobs they are not qualified or capable of learning.  Just like the Affirmative Action President, who has lived off the system his whole life, never having held a REAL job, which shows in his everything he does and why he is such a nonLeader and Failure.

Anyway, Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500 are pretty much the two standard pump-action shotguns out there.  It's easier to add an extended magazine to the 870, the controls are slightly different between the two, but either one would be a fine choice.  Personally, I have a 500 because I hate the cross-bolt safety on the 870. YMMV.

Whatever one you get, make sure you have an 18 1/2 inch barrel (or the minimum your locality will allow you to have).  You may want to consider a stainless steel version to minimize any rusting issues you may have living in a coastal area.  I'm a high desert guy, I don't worry too much about rust. I'd strongly suggest buying both tritium night sights and a weapon mounted light.  It may come across as wanna-be tactical coolness, but the reality of the situation is you're most likely to use your weapon at night, and you DON'T want to be in the situation of shooting at a lighter colored blob in the dark.  Be certain of your target. Flash 'em with a hundred or so lumens. You'll know who/what your target is, possibly disorient them, and hopefully not have to shoot.  I can't imagine dealing with the SF legal system in a self defense situation would be very fun. Best to avoid it when you can.  Surefire makes a slick unit that replaces the foreend of the shotgun with integral light & switches.

Don't believe too much of that 'it's a shotgun, you don't have to aim' garbage.  In most home defense scenarios, the shot pattern is only going to be a few inches across, at best.  Your concern for overpenetration is good, but any round that's going to penetrate far enough into the human body to stop them (virtually) immediately is going to penetrate most building materials.  Practice, practice, practice.  Strongly consider taking a class or two.

Good luck. There's not too many things out there more fun than a rapid-fire shotgun course of fire on multiple steel targets.

159 Its at times like this that a pair of attack dogs would have come in handy...I know a guy whose had his two dogs trached...they dont bark, they dont growl and the only notice you get is while their chewing on your ass!!! Me? I like my dogs too much to go that extreme, but I'll tell ya...a large, barking and angry dog is one hell of a deterent!

"Last year, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn announced the city had won a coveted $20 million federal grant to invest in weatherization ... only three homes had been retrofitted and just 14 new jobs have emerged from the program."

Watch this drive, pea-eaters!

Reminds me of the Monty Python skit with Graham Chapman in drag as the government minister for housing, who had promised "ninety million-billion new houses in the Greater London area alone" in the past year but had, instead, just built two.

12 gauge is your friend. Get a Mossberg 500 series shotgun. Cheap, reliable, beats the hell oput of a pistol.

164 Unions are our current problem.  Worse, the cops, many of them, are union, and won't provide much assistance.  I doubt this union thug will ever be caught even though he undoubtedly left much forensic evidence.
