Obama Adminstration: Vaccine for Ethical Blindness Gets $433 Million No-Bid Contract
— rdbrewer

Vaccine for ethical blindness? I'm sorry. I meant experimental remedy for non-existent threat. Smallpox. But it's okay; it's a big Obama donor. From the LA Times:

Senior officials have taken unusual steps to secure the contract for New York-based Siga Technologies Inc., whose controlling shareholder is billionaire Ronald O. Perelman, one of the world's richest men and a longtime Democratic Party donor.

When Siga complained that contracting specialists at the Department of Health and Human Services were resisting the company's financial demands, senior officials replaced the government's lead negotiator for the deal, interviews and documents show.

When Siga was in danger of losing its grip on the contract a year ago, the officials blocked other firms from competing.

Too bad. An ethical blindness vaccine might help Democrats, the media, and OWS protestors see the crony-capitalism on display here.

My thought for today.

The Occupiers act is if they are slaves to some awful system. But in truth they enjoy the most freedom of all the people in all of history. And their anger is from their displeasure of not being allowed to enslave others.

45 It must be a real bad deal for the LA Times to do an investigative piece on it. Here are some nuggets I got from it.

We already have 330 million doses of smallpox vaccine, enough for everyone in America, and it is effective up to 4 days after exposure. Also, it only costs $3 per dose.

This new stuff would cost $245 per dose and if it is effective in humans is unknown. Also, it expires in 3 years so you have to keep buying it.

We the people spent $115 million in research on this already; then Siga claims that they have this valuable intellectual property that justifies the high price. We paid for the research. Just great.

It's a good read but put your swamp waders on first. There is lots of vile stuff floating around in this particular cesspool.

Yes, there is something they could do. But won't. The word you're looking for is "complicit."** Yes, I've been bitching about this for months and I think I am correct in saying that as long as there's no budget and the current ear-marked spending is the $3+ trillion "bailout" slash "stimulus" spending, then obama has a blank check to spend the extra trillions on whatever he liked. Boehner fucked this up so bad by caving during the debt limit debate.

72 According to Google, smallpox still exists in the US and Russia.

My prediction is that there will be some sort of "terrorist" attack on our or Russia's stock of the virus, which will then be released, and Osama will then be a saint for spending this money to protect us from it.

73 While I agree this new stuff is a scam and a taxpayer ripoff - everyone would do well to read The Demon in the Freezer (link below)to really understand about smallpox. The soviets grew tons of smallpox viruses which they said our vaccines would not stop. Smallpox is the terrorist's nuke.
