— rdbrewer That darned Congress. Why can't they get their act together? Good thing Obama is above it all. He never engages in petty partisan wrangling.
Within minutes of agreeing with congressional leaders Wednesday night on an address to a joint session next week, President Obama flashed out an email to millions of supporters criticizing the chambers, their members and vowing to pressure them to enact his as yet unspecified job creation ideas."It's been a long time since Congress was focused on what the American people need them to be focused on," the Democrat charged in an email with the subject line: "Frustrated."
Jay Carney adds, "Don't look over here; look over there!" and that people are "sick and tired" of Washington:
President Barack Obama's chief spokesman says the dust-up with House Republicans over the timing of Obama's economic speech to Congress dramatizes why "people are fed up" with Washington.. . .
Carney says "Americans are sick and tired of the partisan bickering" in the capital. He argues that Obama wants to focus on "things we can do" to spur the economy.
As if the White House is no longer part of Washington.
I wonder who Obama thinks he's bullsh*tting. I doubt many people are swayed by this rhetoric--you know, people just waking from a two-year coma, children, people just back from Gamma Hydra 7, people from the Upper West Side. That's about it.
Oh, I know. People who work in the Oval Office.

I guess Obama is going to run as the outsider again in 2012, but this time from within the oval office.
That makes total sense.

HAH! I love how the LA Times has to mention that the President is a democrat. Like we don't all already know that. It stands out in such glaring detail, because the MFM never tells the reader that early in a story if someone's a democrat; only if they're a wackadoodle republican.
And why the heck did they capitalize "the Democrat?" It's not a proper noun. "House Republicans" yes, because it's a specific group, but Obama is hardly the only democrat in the country (more's the g-ddamned pity).

No, you useless cock-gobbler, Americans are sick of the fact that an 11-year-old boy who still wears diapers is the one who is in charge of running the country. Fuck you.

Today I asked for a joint session of Congress where I will lay out a clear plan to get Americans back to work. (We Americans haven't been on vacation. We don't need to "get back to work." WE haven't been on vacation, or out golfing. We need a government which does not burden businesses with such staggering taxation and regulation that they become advers to investments and hirring.) Next week, I will deliver the details of the plan and call on lawmakers to pass it. (Is this the same plan that you promised to deliver when you returned from your vacation, or the plan you pomised to deliver when you returned from your vacation last year?)
Whether they will do the job they were elected to do is ultimately up to them. (Just like whether you will do the job you were elected to do is ultimately up to you and the greenskeeper.)
But both you and I can pressure them to do the right thing. (If you can put pressure on them, then why didn't you do that during the recent budget debacle? Or for that matter, why haven't you pressured them to pass a budget at any poiint in the last two years?) We can send the message that the American people are playing by the rules and meeting their responsibilities -- and it's time for our leaders in Congress to meet theirs. (Meeting responsibilities? Really? What single responsibility have you met)
And we must hold them accountable if they don't. (Why, can't they blame Bush, too?
So I'm asking you to stand with me in calling on Congress to step up and take action on jobs: (I'm calling on YOU to stand up and present an actual workable plan to make America business friendly.)
Link redacted, because fuck that stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure.
No matter how things go in the weeks and months ahead, this will be an important challenge for our organization. (Here's an important challenge for you: stop worrying about your handicap, and start worrying about the people you supposedly work for--and I don't mean the ones who can afford $35K dinners with you.)
It's been a long time since Congress was focused on what the American people need them to be focused on. (Hi Pot, this is kettle.)
I know that you're frustrated by that. I am, too. (Why? You have a job. You are a millionaire. You don't have to eat your peas.)
That's why I'm putting forward a set of bipartisan proposals to help grow the economy and create jobs -- that means strengthening our small businesses, giving needed breaks to middle-class families, while taking responsible steps to bring down our deficit. (Um, you are a democrat. How can YOU put forth a set of bipartisan proposals? It takes two to be bipartisan--but you know that, being all Harvard educated and shit, right? You also know that you can't really create jobs--you can only encourage an environment where business growth is encouraged--because the government hiring people isn't "job creation." As for being responsible about bringing down the deficit--does this mean you won't be adding an additional three trillion in debt to our backs in the next couple years?
I'm asking lawmakers to look past short-term politics and take action on that plan. But we've got to do this together. (I'm asking you to look beyond short term politics and do what is best for the country, too. By that, I mean take a long drive with a Kennedy. Go skiing with a Bono. Go hunting with Dick Cheney. Do it together with Joe.)
I will deliver this message to Congress next week, but I'm asking you to stand alongside me today:
Link redacted, because fuck that stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure.
More to come,
Barack

WE aren't swayed, but that's because we're politically aware.
Here's the way the issue was reported on AP Radio News this morning (paraphrased): "Obama will address a joint session of Congress on September 8 to present his jobs plan. He was previously going to address Congress on the 7th, but John Boehner refused as that would conflict with the scheduled GOP debate that evening."
Obama didn't cave. He got what he wanted..."compromise" on an issue meaningless to him and a talking point.

Blame Congress?
Why won't the Republicans point out that the dems had unfettered control of congress for almost a year (from the inauguration of Franken to the inauguration of Scott Brown). The democrats could have passed 1,000 laws during that time, but instead elected to argue amonst themselves over the terms of Obamacare.
It is the democrats and Obama who dropped the ball ... spooging all over national health care instead of dealing with the environment.
When Obama blames Congress, he is pointing out his own failure.

They will. Because NBC would piss off the advertisers that have paid money for their commercials to play during a football game. And their pregame is supposed to start at 7:30pm and kickoff is at 8:30pm. No way do they hurt that revenue stream, because Fox and CBS would probably love to get that Sunday Night coverage once NBC's current contract is up, and dicking over advertisers is not going to be a plus for NBC.

it's in the margin of errors but realiable since last time Obama was up 3- also in the margin of error. I think Gallup got it right that it's a tie which is bad for Obama considering Perry has not as much name recognition and has had the media already come out begging the GOP not to nominate him. It also destroys the GOP establishment elite, and certain Romney talk radio supporters, to sto the Perry is unelectable crap.
The GOP Debate this upcoming Tuesday will be a great way for Perry to introduce himself to those on the fence that decide to tune in.
PS - Ras has Obama at 43% approval and I think Romney going from being competitive to Obama to losing to him shows people are not liking him as an alternative anymore, Generic GOP still beats Obama also

all my analysis of the poll numbers of Obama seem to show that he was reaching new lows post-the bump he got from the Gabby Giffors shooting AZ Memorial speech. BUT the Osama killing lead to a bump where he was at 50-53 depending on what polls you saw for about a month. The debt debate hit and his approvals went back to their pre-Osama killing levels of the mid 40s. The downgrade has given him new records in the high 30s to low 40s. The downgrade seems to be what has finally made some Americans give up on giving this guy patience.

He won't live the Clinton life. He will live the Carter life, where he goes around the world badmouthing America, and kissing dictator ass. You know, exactly what he does now. Of course I actually expect Carter to outlive him since I think Carter probably lives a healthier lifestyle than President Putt-Putt.
Point, though I meant it more in the becoming supremely wealthy way. You're right, though, he's going to make Clinton money doing Carter things.

you can win ANY argument with any intellectually honest moderate on Bury being "the only adult in the room" by saying this simple line:
Barack spent over a trillion dollar on a stimulus that he said would cut unemployment to below 8% it is now 9.2% and climbing, the bill we paid for his spending as much as 8 years of bush in 3 was the downgrade....reelected he will spend almost triple the Bush era in deficit spending......

It is so confusing: when we have a President that the MFM assures us is an idiot, he can run roughshod over Congress even when the other party controls both houses of it! Then when the genius of the western world becomes President, even having one house controlled by the other party transforms him into a helpless bystander to events!
This is a public shout-out to Chriss Matthews or Al Sharpton - please help us uneducated mouth-breathers understand this apparent contradiction!
Hey, I just looked up "contradiction" in the dictionary - cool word - I think I will try to use it in sentences a lot. Shouldn't be too hard I'm thinking, right?

This is actualy intersting...
Obama ran last election as a Moderate outsider. He kept talking about not raising taxes on those under 200k, he kept talking about Gov in gridlock and creating a Post Partisan environment...
Now, as Staff IS Policy, he has ruled as a Socialist Progresive who wants the Government in control of everything (he does not do these things, but he picked the people making it happen, and he is not stopping it)...
But he is now trying to once more 'appear' as a Washington OUTSIDER... now its all those evil Congressmen who are Washington... trying to gloss over the fact that he was part of that club a couple of years ago...
Question is, how stupid is the electorate... and will they be blinded by his Ethnicity and believe him? or will they understand that he is an uneffective BETA Politician, with delusions of adequacy?

Let him make his speech from the white house, lay out his plan before the American people, not with a cheering audience from his supporters. Let his points stand on their owm, let his plan be judged, not just shower congress with platitudes and talking points, but address a real plan.
Oh, and FWIW, senate and the house = congress. A "Joint Session: of congress is redundant.

There's only so much that reasonable people can take when they are lied to and lied about, constantly. But when partisans simultaneously vilify people and disarm them through political correctness? When you make people feel helpless enough, for long enough? Eventually something big and bad is going to happen.
Our culture is spiraling out of control. And our leader is a SCOAMF. With freaks like Loughner and McVay in our midst, it's hard to avoid the conclusion that the left and the MFM are purposefully crushing the economy and taunting the rest of the population in hopes of igniting "the next incident".

The problem is, Boehner doesn't control the debate. I doubt even Nancy Reagan controls it. Politico and (MS)NBC control it. Also, unless the format is very different from other non-debate debates, they would have very little opportunity to address what Obama said, even if they had a chance to watch his speech.
The game is rigged as far as controlling the media narrative. That doesn't mean we don't keep pushing back, but there's only so much we can do.
IIRC, Krauthammer's main point was that Boehner should not have even pushed back -- he should have given Obama the time he asked for. That's dead wrong.

I blame Clinton more. He brought down the office of President more than anyone since Nixon and in a more damaging way, really, since it was all dismissed "boys will be boys." At least everyone acknowledged the corruption in Nixon's administration.
Clinton set the tone for accepting voter fraud and squirrelly campaign financing and private deals with guys like Soros. It was his administration that saw the full-throated knob-polishing by the media (the most since Kennedy and, frankly, the whole country was under a spell with Kennedy).

Sorry to hear about your sister and father-in-law.
Boy things are horrible out there right now. I almost fainted from sticker shock at the grocery store yesterday.

This is exactly why the government should have its spending slashed. Because of government incompetence and lack of accountability, our own government is actually complicit in killing our own soldiers.

"If you call a pig a goat, it's still a pig!" And it'll still go oink oink....I'm built a little different. I think Florida is a surer bet than the Midwest is.
My gut tells me that when an electorate decides to toss out an incumbent, they are probably (1) scared but also (2) risk-averse. Romney is flawed as a conservative, but he is very "safe" to a lot of the public. Perry's come on strong, but Romney is holding a good chunk of votes. I think that says something about him. We joke about the Presidential hair, but what it really boils down to is he seems like a competent guy.
I love Rubio and certainly wouldn't be sad to see him on the ticket, but I think if Romney could be persuaded to drop out sooner rather than later, it would be well worth him as VP. If he drops out, Perry can run more centrist which would be better for him in the general. Otherwise, I think he has to run right to prove how Tea Party he is and grab Bachmann's supporters. Given how screwed up the TP seems to be lately, is that what we want going into the general?

He will have a plan to eliminate business strangling regulations, ( but none of his) and
He will have an infrastructure bank, (stimulus II slush fund for unions) and
He will have extended unemployment benefits, (since unemployment benefits =jobs) and
He will give money to schools to teach people how to do jobs (even though there aren't any)
He will continue the reduced payroll contributions and advocate reducing the employers amount ( evne though SS is going broke) and
he will blame Bush and republicans!

It's not children (an obvious counterexemplary many-child-having demographic comes to mind, doesn't it?); it's being married that makes that difference. When a woman understands herself to share a fate with men (e.g., her husband), she's (statistically) a Republican, because government-by-Republicans is marginally less bad for men (as a whole).
But that's not the thing.
Generally, as shown by their revealed preference in all things, women are more susceptible to advertising (and other analogous social pressures) than men are. They buy, wear, say, and behave as they're told—not by other individuals, necessarily, but by "the culture." And American culture—entertainment, education, etc.—authoritatively asserts that Republicans are women's enemy. And it says that all day, every day.
They believe it. Men don't.
And there's a reason for that, but it makes people flip the hell out if you talk about it, so—

I don't care how he packages himself. His record is clear, warts and all. He's conservative enough for me. He doesn't have to tailor his message to me. Let him try to appeal to independents and conservative Democrats.
I think his opening gambit on gay marriage (and abortion) as a states' rights issue was perfect. It's a shame that he had to add in the constitutional amendment thing, even though I agree with him. Why rub "moderates'" noses in that sort of issue? We want to make it easy for people to vote for him. One way to do that is to let them ignore Perry's social conservative creds.

I guess I'm trusting that if Obama loses, we also get back the Senate and (I would hope) gain traction in the House, making it more conservative not less conservative.

To me, being conservative isn't enough. The candidate must understand what the Left has become, and hammer all their sources of funding under the guise of "reform". I want someone ruthless.
I don't know who this candidate is at the moment.

Well with this kind of thinking I guess we can expect another 4 years of Obama.Purity of any candidate is not going to happen. I'm not sure right now either about Perry, but he sure as hell is better than Obama. Whoever the Republican candidate is I'm voting for him/her, ham sandwich included.

nerdygirl is absolutely correct . . . and once they've actually HAD an abortion? LOOK OUT! Dems forever.
That is simply not true. Or, it may be, but only for some. I've never met a woman who had an abortion and didn't experience heartbreak and regret over having done it. That guilt, for many, is never-ending. Those are the same women who outgrow the liberalism of their youth.
The women to whom you refer are, not uncoincidentally, also immersed in the gimme mentality. It isn't the abortion which makes them die-hard liberals. That brand of politics is already firmly imbedded in their psyche to begin with.

Obama accepted the Thursday slot because that was the desired outcome. He and his people know that his major "jobs" speech will be watched by exactly nobody, even if it is scheduled opposite reruns of Supertrain. By being "forced" by disrespectful nitpicking Republicans to compete against the NFL season opener, he has a manufactured excuse for chirping crickets.
