Obama Goes Golfing
— Ace

Drudge fires off a series of headlines:

Libya lurches close to full-blown civil war...
UK 'to send team of spies' to help oust Gadhafi...
British Army readies for mission at 24 hours' notice...
Obama goes golfing...

It's his 60th gold outing. Pretty lucky of him to be elected president when everything was going swimmingly and he could just coast in caretaker mode.

Well, the mercury has crept back up above 60 degrees here in Washington, and so itÂ’s time once again for President Obama to head out to the golf course.

This is the presidentÂ’s 60th time golfing as president, meaning Obama has spent two months of his presidency on the golf course.

The rounds usually take about five hours, including motorcading back an forth to the course.

According to statistics compiled by CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller, who keeps close tabs on the presidentÂ’s activities, Obama played 30 rounds in 2010, 28 rounds in 2009, and two this year, including today.

Bush, of course, gave up the game in 2003, deciding he could not explain to a dead soldier's parents why he was golfing during a period of war.

We're very lucky to have gotten such a cool dude for president.

One of the president's implicit powers is to decide when there is and isn't a crisis. If the president doesn't want to deal with genocide in Darfur, he just never talks about it. He behaves like it's not a crisis, and the weak-minded media goes along with that.

That's what Obama's doing here.

Wait, no it's not. Obama's just playing golf because he's never had a real job in his life and the presidency is no reason to give up his precious me-time.

60 So..... a little off topic but don't we have assets in and around Libya by now ?
When GW was in charge the shrill media was practically broadcasting longitude and latitude along with departure times, arrival times, armaments, mission plans and troup numbers.
You know it's only fair to alert the enemy whats headed their way cause we're all evil and shit.
Now I have no complaints that this is kept quiet as it should be.  But the MBM is curiously quiet in their reporting since teh one is in charge now. You know secrecy is important now that Obama is attempting to save the world.

200 The irony of it all is he's a terrible golfer. He has a swing like a rusty gate. I know the type too. He's far to arrogant to ever get good at the game. He's the type of guy who's convinced himself that all he needs is some tweaks and some playing time and he'd be great. He's a fool. His swing is fundamentally flawed. He'd have to totally break down his game and start from scratch to ever even be decent and that isn't going to happen. He'll cheat his way to a 90 for the rest of his life.

202 In other news, "progressive" magazine Mother Jones is agitating on behalf of those who would bring sharia law to the United States, and cavalierly declaring anyone opposed to the idea as racist.

Odd.  Aren't these the same "progressives" who are always telling us how Christianity in the law is bad, evil, monstrous, etc...?

So, theocracy based on (predominantly) white people's religion: Bad.  Theocracy based on (predominantly) brown people's religion (not changed much since the 12th century): Good.

212 Yeah, if ppl had better things to do than be petty and bash the President for taking a deserving break.

So, after eight years of calling Bush a fascist, a racist, an illegitimate President, every petty name on the planet, and making fun of him for golfing (even though it was less than Obama), when it's the Dem's turn and their guy is the one being made fun of we're supposed to treat him with the utmost respect.  No.

If Obama and the Democrats really want to bring about an age of civility, they can do one simple thing.  He can go on the air tomorrow, apologize on behalf of the Democratic Party for the way they acted towards George Bush, apologize for not calling off the smears against Sarah Palin (not even take responsibility--just say he should have told his supporters to stop and that it was uncalled for), and say the explicit threats by unions and liberals in Wisconsin are out of line.  It would take him two minutes to do that.  Until he does that, nobody on our side does or will take him seriously.

Until then, I'm not inclined to be magnanimous towards the same side that ripped off all the "W"s from the White House keyboards before leaving, merely because they think us making fun of him golfing would count as "petty."

Don't get me wrong. You can get pretty good even with a bad swing if you've got 2 things. No matter how bad your swing looks you end up in the right place at the point of impact and you have a good short game. Obama's swing does not end up in the right place, you can tell by his finish, and his stance is way too straight up and down near the greens and putting. Obama is a basketball player. Basketball players are notoriously bad golfers, all hands.

347 Well, well, President Present is setting-up campaign offices in GOP primary states.

The Obama team has decided it will not give Republicans a free pass to criticize the president as they fight over their nomination. The president’s reelection committee plans to put its own organizations into the early primary and caucus states – Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

“We can’t cede the playing field,” one adviser said. “We can’t just play general election. So we’re going to have to organize on the ground in early states.”

407 460 Why would anyone expect Obama to waste his time on governing the country?  He has people for that.

Right.  Which is why him spending all his time on the golf course is a cold comfort.

He has always treated the Presidency as a mere figurehead position devoid of any leadership roles where he gets to go to all the "cool" bill signings and State dinners, while his underlings do the "real" work in undermining the country.  The Republican takeover of the House has hindered that to a degree, but the damage has already been done.

I'm not sure it's so much as dislike as it is that RomneyCare and his attitude toward it is a tremendous anchor for any campaign. I see in today's reports he's trying to square the circle by claiming the right of States to make mistakes but still won't admit to the mistake. He really is stubborn if not an AWOL squish.

Any candidate that wants to deconstruct ObummerCare's foundation knows he* has to call upon First Principles (centralized control over markets always fail and there is zero constitutional basis for Federalized health ins, etc.) Mitt has strangely chosen to do otherwise.

From what I read of his NH "launch" he admitted there were some things that didn't go well with Masscare, but it doesn't sound like he went into any specifics.  That's inexcusable.  The man has had plenty of time to come up with a detailed policy study of what went wrong (and right, if anything) with Masscare. If he's so expert, he needs to prove that -- and prove he learned from his mistakes.

It's hard to say nice things about Romney around the conservo-sphere because nerves are so raw about him from 2008 and anticipating 2012, but I confess I'd be willing to vote for him if he'd fix his stance on Masscare.  I actually don't get a bad hit off of him as a person.  I want to like him.  I don't think he comes off effete or privileged (unlike Huntsman) and he has actually displayed some quiet dignity in the face of some of the disgusting shots taken at him over his religion.  He's probably conservative enough for me, although I would really prefer a candidate who is currently working in some capacity where they're answerable to a broad constituency and running something.

But you're right that he is stubbornly clinging to Masscare and it's sinking him.  I don't understand it.
