— Ace No, this one isn't a spoof, though there is an element of comedy in it.
There are three things I took away from this, only one of which was intended.
1) Obama's coalition is "diverse," including, even, older white guys. So you bitter clingers can vote for him.
2) The campaign theme announced here is "Gauzy, Insipid Good-Feelings About Hope and Change, Part 2." There are no concrete rationales offered for re-electing Obama. Nowhere here is mentioned health care -- obliquely, by implication, sure, we can assume that "change" means ObamaCare and a few other things, like a disastrously spastic foreign policy. But nowhere in this ad does Obama crow, as Reagan could in 1984, that things are better -- because they're not, of course. So the ad studiously avoids noting tangible, real "changes" -- few, if any, of them are good -- and once again resorts to Obama's preferred campaign mode of talking about foggy abstractions and vapid tribal enthusiasm.
This pretty much sums up Obama's Administration, doesn't it? One interesting change from 2008 was that, before, he could mix in his empty, airy promises of abstract, undefinable "change" with grandiose, messianic specific promises -- This was the moment when the oceans began to fall.
But he can't do that last part now. The world has not become more peaceful, the budget has not become balanced (a central promise he made in 2008 again and again), and the oceans have not fallen.
So now it's just all the first thing, the leftover nostalgia for the shattered expectations of 2008.
3) One point hit hard is that Obama can't do it all, that he's got a real job (for the first time), and he can't spend a lot of time campaigning because he's so busy playing golf and singing with Sir Paul McCartney, so it's up to his remnant of hardcore hope-and-changers to drag his sorry ass over the finish line.
Of course we know this is all nonsense; Obama is the Least Hardest Workin' Man in Showbiz, and the one thing he does do well, and does put actual effort in, is campaigning. So really, in a perfect world, Obama would be doing the job he asks of his volunteers (community organizin') and his volunteers would be doing the job he was elected to do (actually run the country, which is hard, as it turns out).
Good ad? Even given the facts-on-the-ground difficulties Obama faces, in as much as the economy is awful and Obama has, if anything, exacerbated that, no, the ad is still cloying, empty, and flat. And you do notice the dog that didn't bark -- the man's had coming on three years; where are all these Magic Beans we were promised?
Oh, right. He can only actually perform as promised in his second term; his first one was a mulligan. Odd that he never told us that in 2008.

Obama has done nothing but make a bad situation worse. The only way he's going to win is if the Strategically-Challenged Party decides to just let him get away with that.

So the next GOP ad should start out with one of those "independents" who voted for Obama, but now sees him as the empty suit he really is. Maybe even with a snarky remark that ole' man McCain is still kickin', so all those worries of him being "succeeded" by you-know-who were just fear-mongering ploys by the hopey-changey crowd.

Price of gas + energy policy (or lack thereof) + Gulf response + ban on drilling + Obama's Contempt for Gulf Ruling = Killer campaign ad.
Nothing pisses people off more than the high price of gas. Especially in a bad economy. We should flog that and ride it like Secretariat into the next election...
That and the fact we have the lowest rate of participation in the labor market in 25 years.

Naa. If you aim at Jrs & Srs in college- and people newly in the workforce- you get people who are hearing the alarm or have finally managed to wake up about how the real world works (well, more so than the rest of the college crowd). And I think even more of them are starting to realize that fun & games are awesome, but that eventually the piper will have to be paid.
Not the majority, but more than there were. And if we can get those to swap sides, we take away a good chunk of the Democrat base. Just like the African-American community. If we can get just 2% or so of them to switch, the electoral math is very different. Good luck with that, of course, but the point remains.

With the economy and people losing there jobs you need some thing to replenish jobs let me introduce you to R.E.E.P the only energy source that can give you stable non out sourced jobs. it will create jobs in your city town or county. R.E.E.P will create 500 jobs per city, town, or county . With your unemployment at 9% or better it is time to lower it . Not only will this product create jobs but it will also lower your electric bill.

I think he will probably lose a very large percentage of the youth vote that came out in 2008. They voted for Hope and Change and got a shit sandwich instead.
A lot of them were students.. now, they are filling up their gas tank with $4 buck per gallon gas as they look for a non-existent job.
I do not, however, put it past Obambi to come up with some kind of program (using TARP money so he can bypass Congress) to buy this vote back. He's been pouring billions into student aid as it is.. I'm just waiting for the next big stimulus vote buying program.

That will be the key to this election. That and the candidate that makes it through the BS Republican primary rules.
If the Peggy Josephs are down because Obama did not put gas in their car and pay their rent at the same time the Republicans get a candidate to energize the base the election will be a walk-away for the Republicans.
If they get a lack-luster McCain type and the unions get out the vote for the commie the Republicans will lose. If the unions can't get out the vote and the Pubs have a McCain it will be a tossup, probably going to the Dems.

A couple of completely superficial observations. The older white male had a very vacant look in his eyes. There was something unsettling about him. The white female from Colorado looked very strange to me as well- her eyes shifted nervously. Going from appearances alone, they were not appealing and frankly kind of off-putting.
What the white female said was so inane, I'm amazed they put it in the ad. Something along the lines- "It needs to reflect the changes we've had in the past two and half years. Before, he was an underdog and nobody thought he could win and now he's the president."
So the big change that needs to be reflected in this election is that before, Obama wasn't the president and now he's the president. That is Billy Madison "puppy speech" stupid.

Even as adverse as we are to math, the nation understands the importance of the degradation of virtually every real metric used to measure the failure of The Vapid One©. Something simple and to the point, pulling no punches, with perhaps a personal note thrown in ("How many of your friends are currently out of work?") would substitute as the "Are you better off now than four years ago."

AllenG- we got a taste with this ad. They want to get the youth vote energized and want the next wave of college students to feel like they're part of the party they missed out on 4 years ago. The african-american female was used for the message- hey, the african-american vote has to be energized on its own, don't expect him to be pandering.
He won't make an explicit racial appeal, just like last time when he downplayed race. Instead, he will try to hype the Walker/union issue to get blue collar white male union members on board for economic reasons.

We conservatives can no longer claim that an ad campaign for an incumbent which is built around gauzy nonspecifics is somehow cheating.
Not after the gauzy nonspecifics of the Hal Riney "Morning in America" ads which the Reagan campaign ran in eighty-four.
Those things left a bad taste in my mouth then, and they still do. I thought Reagan should have made a tough, factual stance on issues and policies instead.
The ads worked, and they got Reagan re-elected, but they represented a trend towards consumer advertising methods in politics, a trend which later brought us President Billy Jeff and President Lightworker.
Consumer advertising is used to sell what are for the most part overpriced and shoddy BS products. We should not be surprised that when such advertising invades politics, what we get are overpriced and shoddy BS policies.

Naaa. I'm going on the theory that some of that 52% are either awake now, or feel they've performed their "historic" duty, and will need actual accomplishments to vote his way again.

That may not be too far off. Which indicates a) NOT MITT ROMNEY and b) that we need to hammer the health care bill over, and over, and over again- starting today.
I think he'll run on that "making work pay" "tax credit" (that isn't one), so we also need to start explaining- today- why that wasn't a tax credit, and why it didn't actually put any more money, ultimately, in families pockets.
Did Porkulus do anything that could be spun as an accomplishment? We need to road-block that, too.

We conservatives can no longer claim that an ad campaign for an incumbent which is built around gauzy nonspecifics is somehow cheating.
Not after the gauzy nonspecifics of the Hal Riney "Morning in America" ads which the Reagan campaign ran in eighty-four.
I'm happy for your concern. You are quite the concerned conservative, aren't you? So concerned that you named the person who did the Morning in America ads, you have to be really wonky to have named him. Maybe his name has popped up like the name Koch lately, I'm not sure.
But it isn't the gauzy nonspecifics that are a problem. Reagan's message, such as it was, is that things have gotten better. Obama's message, such as it is, is "Don't look at the man behind the curtain."
And I'm glad for your concerned conservatism, but it is widely acknowledged that the shallowness of presidential campaigns started with Nixon/Kennedy in 1960.
Besides, times have changed. The Tea Party runs the show now.

Consumer advertising is used to sell what are for the most part overpriced and shoddy BS products.
Which is why your argument has no bearing on Reagan '84.

+1 to that.
Even my dad, a Kennedy Democrat who saw the light when McGovern ran, said Nixon won on substance (lost on makeup).

Right, because if one thing Grand Moff Obama is known for, it's consistent, humble deference to the separation of powers and to the constitutional limits of his own. In fact, we've all seen just how dedicated the fascist animals of the Left are in general to the expression of contrary views through the legislative process.
I can see Madison burning from my house.

I think it is the union (or anti-worker and government benefit) aspect that the Obama campaign will capitalize on. What got the college kids riled up in Madison to protest on behalf of cranky and crusty old teachers and cops? (Can you ever remember hippie protestors claming to be fighting on behalf of the police?) It wasn't that the Wisconsin dems had a solid plan that they were for, it was because the kids believed they were marching for worker's rights/human rights. They were marching for an ephemeral leftist ideal. A dem candidate didn't need to show past accomplishments in Wisconsin to convince them to agitate, they just told them that Walker was a fascist that was turning the clock back.
Obama is going to run against Paul Ryan-type cuts in government spending as being the coming Armageddon with the forces of evil. He keeps the black vote, and goes after the youth vote, umarried women afraid of government cuts, seniors afraid of health care cuts, government workers and blue collar white union members.

Why not! He ripped off the title of Newt's book 'Winning the Future.'

Reelecting Barry not be a vote for more of the same but rather, will be a vote against whichever mouth-breathing, bible-thumping, granny-murdering, child-starving tool-of-the-rich the Republicans foist on the voters with their corrupt back-room deals between their rape-the-working-man transnational masters.

The same way we would vote for a ham sandwich over Obama, they will vote for Obama over any Republican that looks like a Republican. Well for that matter they will vote for Obama over any Republican that resembles a Democrat. John McCain provided that witness.

Under the outstanding leadership of Barack Obama, that $3.79 is just the beginning. With the re-election of Pres**ent Obama, four years from now, I bet he will double that.

@117: "Our leaders are our worst enemies. Their limp wristed approach to, well, everything, is sickening. They have no balls. They are afraid to attack, to tell the truth, and to really fight."
You seem to be operating under the delusion that they want to fight. They don't. They want more gummint power as badly as the Left - they're simply national socialists as opposed to international socialists. Further, they are party of the ruling class, and the new nobility will not be denied its rightful due and proper.

Cynically manipulative. Its like they cast it out of any Ivy League admissions officer's wet dream
Actor 1. token southern, white, middle age, male, (Ed seems a bit crazed and medicated.)
Actor 2. southwest Latina with no discernible Mexican accent (unless she wants one)
Actor 3. Boulder liberal female. (Katherine of Colorado, of the Birksenstocks and unshaven legs, is literally shifty-eyed at 0:23.
Actor 4. New York, 19 year old, male, college student. (Probably Vassar.)
Actor 5. Lone African American. Michigan. Of Course.
These actors people seem a little Stepfordish.

Screw it. Nuclear Option.
Ad opens to video of Obama giving speech in Cairo: Screen text. "President Obama, Cairo, June 4, 2009, speech to the Muslim world." quote from speech:
"I also know civilization's debt to Islam. ... Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality. (Applause.)
Cut
Emergency vehicles at Fort Hood. Hassan. Flag draped coffins. crying relatives. Witness saying "Hassan shouted Allahu Akhbar! and started shooting" Voice over of Obama saying: ""We don't know all the answers yet and I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts,"
Cut
Obama quote about cop after Gates arrest: "I don’t know – not having been there and not seeing all the facts – what role race played in that, but I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two that he Cambridge police acted stupidly..."
Announcer: "To win a war, you have to know you are in one and you have to be able to recognize the enemy. Barack Obama gives more benefit of the doubt to Muslim terrorists who murder Americans than he gives to American police officers."
Barack Obama. How much do you really know about him?
Posted by: Kennedy's adrenal gland at April 04, 2011 02:53 PM (Xv7f/)
Absolutely. There is no doubt it's the manifestation of the 'dream team' of Obama 2012 workers down the street from me who consist mostly of 20 year old doucebag's who think that donning a pair of thick black glasses and using a mac entitles them to be considered an edgy intellectual on the avante-guard of society.
There is an opening for a strong conservative message that focuses on action, not message. Drop the production values (embrace the lack of them, in fact) and insistently attack the disparity between Obama's lifestyle and those of the average American who is either fighting for a job or one of the 44 Million now on food stamps. Use his campaign against him, even down to the stupid bold-faced typography.

"....dreadful dull possible field of candidates"?
In alphabetical order: Bachmann, Bolton, Caine, Palin, and West--
West/Bolton - retired colonel and UN dude vs.Obama/ Biden at the foreign policy debate -- Islam-Israel and the Middle East, treatment of women under Islam, four foreign wars, defending the U.S. and border, and energy from overseas.
Bachmann/Caine - tax lawyer and CEO debate Obama on the debt, deficit. taxes, inflation, and the cost of living including energy, food, and housing.
Palin vs. Obama on the future of the country, including Homeland Security, the Nanny State, schools, relationships with allies, oil drilling-fishing and other natural resources, American exceptionalism and American values.
And that's not even counting the first woman -- or two, the first Alaskan, the first military leader since Eisenhower, the first CEO, the first combination-minority, or the first culturally-American black -- or two. (Or the first 'stache since Teddy)
With the issues we have (When has it been so important?), the exciting candidates we have, and Obama ads that write themselves, only the stupid Republicans are the only ones who could possibly blow this.
Wait a minute.
Oh, yeah -- Don't forget that you have me to bring up sticky issues.
