Obama Speech on Egypt Thread
— Ace

Calling for restraint by the government, and for the government to stop blocking the internet. But also calling for restraint by the protesters.

Really it's a lot of nothing. Now he's talking about how prescient he was in saying Egypt needs reform, something that everyone says.

He Can't Help Himself: Grabs credit again by noting that when he gave his gassy speech in Cairo, he said that governments can only maintain legitimacy if they secure the consent of the governed. Duh.

But the thing is, he's kind of saying "I told you so," as if it was particularly astute or brave to note this idea.

And on top of that, it's a big F*** You to Mubarak -- haha, you should have listened to me -- which is pretty troubling given that Mubarak is still in office.

That said, as I think Obama is a coward, I imagine he wouldn't try to link himself to that unless his spy analysts told him that it's 90% likely Mubarak will be deposed.

OK, at the beginning of this month,  Barry sends an ambassador to the Assad dictatorship in Syria (after a 5-year absence in protest), and at the end of this month he talks about consent of the governed vis-a-vis Egypt?

Because Obama wants his own internet kill switch, and he's afraid people will oppose it more if they see that such a thing is primarily of interest to a dictator trying to keep order.

Incidentally, Lieberman's new 2011 version of the kill switch bill adds a provision that says the Justice Department can't stop the Preznit from using the switch or investigate why he did, in case you didn't distrust it enough.

By their works ye shall know them. Obama's passive aggressive "Present" vote suffocated the Western-friendly people's democratic revolt against their Iranian Islamic theocracy and it's use of the Muslim Brotherhood in Islam. He cracked as if an Ivy League joke that "We have different forms of government" when questioned why he's supporting Hu's China that tortures its people in prison slave labor camps where the prisoners' biological organs are removed for the authoritarians to market to the highest bidder. Obama demands that Mubarak give meaning to words of Egyptian reform to accommodate the radical Muslim Brotherhood.

Don't be embarrased...what it comes down to is that you have 2/3 of Egypts population maiking $1.00 per day and rampant illiteracy. Couple that with no porn or booze and you get a good ol' fashined leftist uprising being led by a group called the Muslim Brotherhood, which is a poor man version of Al'qauida. So the people's choice is to join a terrorist faction other than being suppressed under the thumb of the currrent dictatorial regime of Mubarak who has been in power for over thirty years.

Which then means that Obama supports the terrorists.

Well maybe but it's no biggie.  Man caused disasters are what we need to worry about.  Terrorists are just into terrorism.  The war on terrorism is over (not sure if we won or not).  Rememeber Big Sis said MAN CAUSED DISASTERS are what we need to worry about first and perhaps domestic terrorists second.

Mark Steyn had a little fun with that today.  He talked about Sheen needing hernia surgery after spending the weekend with a "bevy of hookers and cocaine."  He got a definition from someone in the studio as 24.  He then said "Geez, with 24 hookers, it's a wonder he didn't get a triple hernia."  Later he talked about that classic song "Drove my bevy in a Chevy", "Obamacare will take care of problems caused by the first 23 but not the 24th", etc.  Too funny!

He's whining -- which is what he always does -- about how awful it is that "freedom and democracy" are being subverted by Eeeeevil Hose-Knee. His "State Department expert" (whatever-the-fuck her name is) is rattling down the same track.

Sometimes, I think Hannity doesn't know any more about "democracy" than the average fellah in Egypt. Unless Limbaugh whispers the answers in his ear.

And oh, God, the Interwebz! I guess it'll all be fine in Cairo when some Ali or other posts a victorious note on Facebook and all his pals can "like" it.

224 Speaking of Moochelle:

This is part of her speech at a basic training ceremony.  She actually praises them for eating healthy, brags about her own 'eat better' campaign, and then spews a boat load of progressive 'you wouldn't have succeeded without the guy beside you' shit.

You learned that “tough” isnÂ’t something that you are.  You learned that disciplined isnÂ’t something that you are.  Those are things that you become through persistence and hard work.  Yes, you learned to follow.  But you also learned to lead.

And you learned something that is also near and dear to my heart -- and I know maybe some of the moms here will probably agree with me on this one -- through the new “Fueling the Soldier” initiative here at Fort Jackson, you learned how to make better choices about what you eat during mess hall.

And this isnÂ’t just an issue thatÂ’s important to me as First Lady.  In recent years, military leaders across the country have been speaking out about how proper nutrition is vital to the success of our armed forces.  And so theyÂ’ve designed some wonderful programs like the ones here at Fort Jackson with the goal of ensuring that every one of you is fit to serve.  And this is an important step, and one that I hope that each of you can keep with you for the rest of your lives.  I hope that these are lessons that you can take back to your own families, your own children, as you move forward.

But you didnÂ’t just learn to take care of yourselves here at Fort Jackson.  You also learned to take care of each other. You learned that as individuals there are limits to your strength, but when youÂ’re willing to work together, you can accomplish anything.
...
In these soldiers –- your sons and daughters, your spouses, siblings, and parents –- we see the very best America has to offer.  We see it in those of you who were born far from our shores, but who love this country, and signed up to serve it before it was even your own.  And we see it in those of you who are continuing a long line of service –- the third, fourth, or fifth generation in your families to wear our nationÂ’s uniform.
...
And finally, we see it in how you embody that most American of ideals:  E pluribus unum: out of many, one.

How you represent a force that brings together individuals from every corner of the country –- nearly every race, every faith, every culture –- in service of one overarching mission: to protect the values that we all share -- freedom, equality, and limitless opportunity.

Conduct this thought experiment: What was the number of times during his two terms that President George W. Bush even hinted at saying "I told you so..." to another politican of any stripe, foreign or domestic?

Answer: Zero, which coincidently is also the answer to the question: "How much class and graciousness does Barack Obama bring to the office of President of the United States?"

Egypt's ruling powers haven't changed much in character since Nasser.  The difference is only that Egypt's role as the lead for pan-arab nationalism was killed with the Camp David Accords (which was the only real benefit of that "peace treaty") but that effect only lasted for about 15 years.

I will say that the Copts' experience in Egypt was and is no different than any other Christians anywhere else in the arab world.  That is pretty much of a universal arab condition.

DeepWater Horizon, this should have been Xmas for Obama and his eco-buddies. Instead that agenda gets stalled even worse, this should have caused cap and trade to slide through congress and a out-swelling for support for all sports of alternative energy schemes.

Now the crisis in Egypt, Obama pretty much has His 1979 Iran moment.
