Actually, the Iraq invasion led to a greater discovery of WMDs than anyone had even imagined.  It was only because of that invasion, which sacred the arabs shitless (until they found out that Bush wouldn't really fight like it was a real war) and caused Libya to give in and puke up its whole WMD effort, which led directly to the inner workings of the AQ Khan network and allowed us to finally shut that down (for the most part).  The AQ Khan network was far more important WMD than any stockpile that was supposed to be in Iraq, and was broken as a direct result of the Iraq invasion.

As to Iraq, itself, they were given so much time that it is amazing there was anything left in that country.

Lastly, there was never a question that Iraq held WMD.  We knew that from the first gulf war.  We got lucky and found out about Iraq's bio-weapons program because their Hussein's son-in-law ran away and spilled his guts to us.  Other than that, we would have had no idea.

At the time that Clinton allowed the inspectors to be pushed around and kicked out of Iraq, there were WMDs, which is the last piece of actual data that anyone had.  When we finally went back, Hussein claimed that those WMDs had been destroyed but for which there was no paperwork and no trace.  Any reasonable person would continue to assume that they were there and that more were being planned (as per the bio-weapons program that the son-in-law informed us about, even after we had beaten the crap out of Iraq and they signed a cease-fire - whicha was, itself, nothing but a joke).

No one needed to apologize for anything about Iraq, except those who stopped us from finishing the job during the first gulf war and those who let their Hussein push us around after he suffered one of the most humiliating military defeats in all of recorded history.

I know I'm preaching to the choir to addressing business obligations but here goes anyway.  Business has one primary obligation, earn a profit.  Social employee and environmental concerns are a luxury only afforded by profit.  The government can provide infrastructure that makes for a healthy business environment with roads, power and an educated work force but beyond that most regulation tends to destroy that enviornment.  Some regulation is good.  I don't want asbestos fibers floating around work or lead in the paint of the crib and toys my kid chews on but we have obviously gone way past that point.

Regulation needs inspectors and enforcers.  Inspector and enforcers need to be paid.  Paying them means more taxes and fines. Yada, yada, yada...

Worse, they always say "Bush went to court..." GORE went to court and asked the Florida Supreme Court to change election law after the vote, they agreed and Bush then asked the Federal Supreme Court to rule on it, and they said "Oh, Hell No" 7-2. Then the remedy was more controversial, thus the 5-4 vote, because of fairly obvious partisan reasons.

The point is that GORE tried to get the courts to hand him the election when the voters didn't, and the Fed Supremes said NO.

The same Gore that tried to block military votes. And who lost every official recount.

And the left still chants "Selected not elected!" and "Stole the election!"

There were WMDs in Iraq; we did recover some of the components and more importantly we uncovered Saddam's connections to international terrorist groups...a lot of the stuff did get moved (and believe it or not, we kept track of that too).

However, a lot of this stuff was either classified information that couldn't be disclosed without consequences or the media did a bang up job of repressing it (perhaps because it is biased????).  Also, there were other, legitimate reasons for invading Iraq -- again, they would fall under classified information and/or involved really wonkish explanations that the general public would likely have had a hard time wrapping their heads around -- even if the media was inclined to report fairly on it.  However, that does not mean that Bush's administrations did the best job of prosecuting the war or conveying the importance of the same -- I think that failed to some degree.

It's rather like the situation of business, labor, the whole rigamarole -- businesses are getting the shaft (and the workers as a result), but businesses aren't exactly lily pure either.

Oh well.

As to "correcting" me... I've been reading reports from BOTH sides for years, so please spare me your outrage... as someone who HAS followed this story on and off for years... you are coming off like a Truther in your outrage.

My mind if open on the question, becaue I DON'T know, and have not seen definitive proof either way on the subject.  I've seen everything from Books from Iraqi Generals, to UN reports, to US Army reports, to Congress rambling, and now YOUR opinon on it... still have not found anything definitive enough to make up my mind on that subject.

I've heard that's the justification but don't buy it.  Seems to me the stadium's owner, the city/county the stadium it's located in, the blimp companies (Black Sunday reference), and the NFL should be able to handle their event w/out the Feds coming in and requiring metal detectors and pat downs.

Every time Jugears opens his piehole, he affirms that he knows absolutely nothing about business. His history prior to his political career was filled with rabble-rousing and efforts to convince people that businesses are evil and filled with greedy fat-cats who do nothing but exploit "workers" (a decidedly communist term that he still uses today instead of the capitalist term "employee"). Nothing has changed for this asshole, except now he is in a position to inflict his twisted views of capitalism upon those he hates, which is the rest of us. And make no mistake, he and his prog cronies hate this country and everyone who lives in it. Why else would he want everyone's utility bills to "necessarily skyrocket?"

Hell, any one of us Morons with a raging hangover could run a business better than he could. I hope that some of the idiot 52%'ers will wake up to the horrible mistake they made and that all of us are paying for in the form of lost jobs and the wasting of America.

We are well and truly fucked.

When we found Biscuit as a puppy he already had heart worms, and he was probably lucky to survive the treatment required to get rid of them.  His heart, however, had likely been permanently damaged in the process.

He also had pneumonia a couple of time over the past few years.  Though we didnÂ’t know it at the time, his diminished cardiovascular system was probably responsible for the severity of those bouts.

He hadnÂ’t been breathing right lately, and was due for an appointment with a canine cardiologist on Monday.  When I dropped him off at the vets for cremation this morning they said there is no way he could have survived the treatment regiment required to improve his breathing.  The cause of death was chronic cardiopulmonary failure secondary to disease and infection.  In short, his heart was dying the day we found him.

Biscuit died the way he lived – resting on his blanket on the bed in front of the fireplace with my wife, though I have no doubt that in his mind he was defending the house and protecting his family.  Fortunately, in the few moments we had with him before he passed, we got the chance to tell him we loved him and that he was a good dog.  With all my heart I hope he passed easily and hearing our voices.

It is said that Lhasas were bred to be sentinel dogs, alert, friendly, funny, intelligent little creatures that grow very attached to their families.  Biscuit certainly was all that.

In the end, it is best that he went quickly and quietly, and with everything he loved all around him.  Biscuit was indeed the sentinel of our house, and we will miss him very much.

Things won't be the same around here without him.

My condolences to you.  I've never had a Lhasa (I'm an Airedale person) but from what I can tell they're great dogs.  At least Biscuit died at home surrounded by his family.  An Airedale female, Emma, was rescued by our family as damaged goods.  After a few years with us she stopped eating one day and started wasting away; I took her to the vets where they were going to do exploratory surgery and as soon as they put her under her heart just stopped.  I still hate myself for not doing the right thing and putting her down with the people she loved with her; instead of feeling abandoned surrounded by strangers.

The fucking UN whined at us publicly because we hauled tons and tons of the shit out of there and didn't give it to ElBaradei so he could give it to the fucking Iranians.

The admin pointed it out at the time, but the fucking MFM and the fucking Democrats have been lying about it ever since. If you can figure out a way to fire the MFM and the Democrats for being a bunch of lying fucksticks, please let us all know.

The dog's a rescue mutt...kinda odd looking, but people think she's she some sort of purebred. She has THE most awesome pesonality...and doesn't know a stranger...animal or human.

I have her with me as much as possible. I'm already thinking about how hard it will be when she goes

We lost our dog last summer.  I put that dog through 3 surgeries because I couldnt put him down.  He died after the 3rd surgery.

Last fall a mother and 4 kittens took up squatter's rights in an old, delapidated house on the back of our property. When the kits started coming out to play, I started to sneak them food on the sly.[We can barely afford the 2 strays that adopted us, one cat and one dog, now best friends btw and I didn't want to hear hubby grumble.]

Then came the cold and snow. So I snuck out back and stapled plastic over the doors and windows and made myself crawl in and not be a scaredy-cat of going through the floor, to feed them. Once a week I make the trek.

Now the snow is waist deep in some places. 2 weeks ago they predicted 50 below windchills and I knew my old bones wouldn't make it out there, so I filled 2 dishpans with food and made a cathouse and then dragged it all out there and pushed it and me in to the frigid house.

Today, after many nights of worrying if my kittens survived I stumbled out there and what did I see, but, my favorite kitten sitting on an old tire with a look on her/his face that plainly said where the he!! have you been! I didn't see the others but they are all very skittish. If one survived, then they all did.

Maybe someone could try his hand at motivating a new thread?

We just re-purposed this one, because we all knew that Obama Tries His Hand at Motivating Businesses  was destined to die young.  Like so many pets.....

Pitch black. The name was from a book I was reading when I found Ash, as a kitten, with an injured foot, hiding between discarded layers of insulation in the snow.

None of the neighbors in that rural area had any idea where he came from.

I think he was thrown out of a car and made it a few hundred yards up the hill in the snow to my house. Or one of my neighbors was lying, which is not too far-fetched.

Either way, that's how he found me.

The full name was Ashtaroth Underfoot (because he was always underfoot - I got used to it). He suffered total kidney failure 5 years later... and the vet scratched his head for years when he talked about how Ash survived. Lived 9 more years. He said the kidneys started working again "like magic."

Anderson Cooper tweeted that he's leaving Egypt.

I can't go back to Pet Smart because they have kittens! That's where we got our Lucy and now I can't shop there.

We want to get a dog. Gotta get the fence fixed, but I should be able to do that next month or so.

But I worry about getting a dog from a shelter, because they aren't always the nice friendly breed they are supposed to be...that and I believe that a dog should go for at least one walk a day, but that will be more difficult with my husband overseas. Yes, I can drag the kids with me, or send the oldest, but I'm just not sure...

I guess I just needed to blow off some steam. I used to have about a hundred links on the subject I would post in online arguments, but not a SINGLE idiot ever addressed anything substantive once I posted them, they'd either go somewhere else with the same argument, or say it was all propaganda (yeah, the UN propagandizes for the US), or just change the subject.

If you don't know by now that we had dozens of other reasons for pursuing that campaign and we recovered WMDs as part of it, you never will, because it ain't because of a lack of facts.

DiGiorno's is by far the worst pizza of any kind, any where. If I want a giant disk of chewy dough with pizza flavoring, I'll go with DiGiorno's.

If I have to go frozen, I go Red Baron. Thinnish crust, decent amount of toppings although it used to be heavier on the sauce and topping some years ago.

When my daughter was at the vet a few months ago, someone brought in some kittens that had been left in a paper bag in a Wal-Mart parking lot. A car had hit the bag and one kitten was killed. My daughter, of course, took home one of the survivors. Soft touch, she is, like her parents.

Abused animals are one thing. But as a neighbor once told me, that cats, or specally kittens, use the "wet cat routine".

When I questioned her about it, she stated that cats get wet, and then come crying to your door. At first I didn't believe it, although I've known people who in fact have taken in cats because of that reason.

And then one day I saw it. Pissing down rain, cat just walks into it, stands there for about a minute, then suddenly hauls ass up to someones' apartment door crying like it's just been beaten.

And I'm thinking, you little creep! "Wet cat routine", indeed.

I hadn't considered that. What's the secret? Get to fessin' up, man!

Cook the pizza right on the oven rack, don't put a pan under it.  Can get a little messy with cheese dripping off, but much better crust.

That meme is infuriating enough but it happens all the time with even little things. I kept seeing people commenting on how Beck's ratings were plunging. Since that seemed a little too comfortable for Soros I started looking at it. Yeah, there are about a bazillion google hits for that ----started by Media Matters----who led the boycott on Beck esp after his expose on spooky dude. Finally found a site, which I don't remember and would have to find again, that showed the ratings. It's bull. And I don't really give a shit--it's just an example.

That's just a small example, it's everywhere about everything. The left puts out constant propaganda, most of which is just false, some of it just edited or manipulated. The old ones--wmds, iran contra, sandinistas, jesse helms, tet offensive, mccarthy, etc.

I heard a story from a friend of a friend once, you know, apocryphal, about a POS like that that was a terror in a smallish town. Killed a bunch of pets. Got caught and was basically fined and let go. Did it again in front of a bunch of kids.

Left town suddenly a day later. Didn't leave a forwarding address. Funny enough, left all his stuff behind, too.

Now, I don't want anybody to draw any rash conclusions from this, but I can sure understand how someone like that would be encouraged, vigorously, to leave. And never come back.

Vigorously.

I'm sure it was just a story.

One last animal story to inspire...

A few summers ago some local tots lead a matted, little stray to my doorstep. It was obviously in a bad way, hungry and lonely and appeared to have been discarded for weeks or even months. Where on Earth did this poor little hobo come from? My guess....a farm house had been moved into town a few days prior to the dog wandering the streets, so I figured he'd been holed up in it out on the farm and then made the move with the house.

I took him to a local vet. After a bath and clipping, it was discovered that he was a purebred cocker spaniel. He is still living happily ever after with a senior lady that adopted him.

Even at my lowest moments I have to buck-up, because if kittens and dogs and deer can have the strength and determination to keep going, then so can I.

I used to try to understand where people are coming from, sympathize and try to correct the error in thinking. It just almost never works because the error is foundational, if that makes sense.

Understand I'm not speaking for myself,I'd be on a plane somewhere 365 days a year if I could manage it. But Americans generally don't like being forced to confront the outside world. We have quite a large country of our own and if we find it cramped there's always Canada (America Lite).

Americans want to spend their days working. We like working. We like coming up with crazy plans and turning them into billion dollar businesses. If we're not working we want to hang out with family. We don't like thinking about politics, we're not the French. We don't like having to learn the differences between Shia and Sunni because, quite frankly, we don't give a damn. We just want to work and hang out.

From time to time Americans are forced to recognize the existence of some other piece of the world: Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq. We resent being forced to do so. We didn't really know these places existed, didn't care, and don't wish to be irritated by them because we have work to do.

So we fall back on simple, direct solutions to ease the irritation: nuke 'em all. Nuke 'em all, and then get back to work. It's not that we harbor particular malice toward one country or another, one religion or another. What we harbor is indifference.
