— Ace This wouldn't be newsworthy except the People's Front of Judea notes how perfect it is.
A long time ago Obama "borrowed" a tie of Gibbs. He liked it, so he wound up keeping it. Today he gave him the tie back, finally, with a couple of pictures of Gibbs with Obama in a glass picture-case.
So, here is an emblematic Democratic "gift:" Giving you back what was always yours and expecting a thank-you for it.

During the debate over extending the Bush tax cuts, the Democrats demagogued the issue with a silly cardboard sign:
"With the Republican tax cuts: people making over $1 Million get $300,000."
Keyword is "get." Not "keep." They government gives them $300K as if it was a gift or a subsidy.

26 At some point, you have to learn how to give-most of us get this in our preschool/early childhood years, with guidance from our parents. But I don't think anyone has ever told him how to give appropriately. He only learned how to take.
Posted by: moki at February 11, 2011 04:13 PM (dZmFh)
Wow, that is something that never occured to me but now that I think about it, so very true. So much of childhood is spent learning social customs, how to participate in those customs appropriately, and have the right, empathetic responses to the people in our lives. Zero's childhood, being raised by commie wolves as he was, never included socialization.
Which was why he thought it was hilarious when he went on 60 minutes and laughed about the desperate state of the US economy. Since it doesn't affect him, he doesn't care how many people are barely scraping by thanks to his policies.

Hey, Gabby! Did you see my Superbowl interview? No? They knocked you out to glue your skull back on, huh? Too bad. You missed some awesome stuff by me.
Hey, you know who would make a pretty good brain surgeon? Me!
So, you getting your coordination back? Yeah? Great. Hey, did you see that one time I killed a fly during an interview? One shot. Dead. Bang! I've got great hand-eye. Good thing I wasn't the one who shot you. You'd be deader than shit. But the cool thing would be that everyone would remember you as the gal who got killed by me.
So, hey, I heard you can give back rubs. That's great. So I was thinking that to celebrate your progress, I should give you a gift. Pretty thoughtful, huh?
So, yeah. What I thought I'd do is allow you to do that massage thing on me for practice. My back is pretty tight from all this hard work of transforming shit in this country. No, don't thank me for letting you do this. It's the least I could do to help you on the road to recovery.

Yeah. That's the spot.

You know, Obama is not only the smartest guy in the room, he's the brain trust equivalent of the Three Wise Men who followed the star of Hope and Change. This necktie he presented to Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on his last working day wasn't just a necktie, it was a veritable "Gift from the Magi." I'm sure Mr. Gibbs will forever treasure the thought of knowing that The President wore that tie, sweated in that tie, dripped lobster sauce on that tie and worked tirelessly in that tie. Perhaps that was the tie Mr. Obama wore when he was sworn into office; or perhaps it was the tie he wore when he gave his famous speech in Egypt. One thing you can be sure of is that tie had a front seat watching history in the making. For that, I am sure Mr. Gibbs is eternally grateful. (Sob!) I want that tie!

Inappropriate behaviour such as that is the hallmark of a sociopath. I knew someone like that once. He would laugh really hard if someone burnt their fingers cooking, or cut them while prepping food, or took a nasty fall skiing. He had virtually no boundries, socially, because he didn't have empathy. He thought it a funny thing to tie two cats' tails together and hang them over a clothes line.

Graceful arms (with dull elbows) stretch beyond the tops of the pillows as a barely farmiliar face, framed in thick dark curls, slowly warms to consiousness with a soft yawn. Simultaneously - from beneath the coverlet - sounds a long, wet, queef.
The light of dawn is replaced with the smell of regret.
She's awake.

Still not getting your point. State prison officials answer to the governor. An order from the president would be meaningless. The only choice would be to ignore an order that has no force of law behind it.
The only way a federal official can order the release of a convicted state prisoner is on a habeas corpus writ. And that only happens after the prisoner proves to a federal judge that he was convicted or is being held in violation of federal constitutional rights.

Back in 1991, Israel temporarily ejected, for two years, 212 Hamas members to Lebanon. The world threw a total shit-fit, with "international journalists" camping out on the Lebanese border with the poor Hamas folks. Meanwhile, at the same time, after the first gulf war, Kuwait unceremoniously ejected 400,000 palis, because the palis were big-time Saddam Hussein supporters (so they all had to go). No one raised a peep about the 400,000, but they were still screaming bloody murder about the poor 212.

Posted by: Soona at February 11, 2011 03:24 PM (xb/Vp)
Remember that? Back in 2004, 2005, 2006, we were supposed to be so sad because Bush's war displaced millions of refugees from Iraq. Booo hoooo.
The Left/Media love saying the word 'refugee' because they think it evokes instant sympathy and white guilt.

Aunt friggin Zetuni is a political refugee.
I have no idea why Republicans let that story fizzle after just one day.

Re: The ensign filing a complaint:
I'm withholding judgement until I hear some more about this case. The ensign may be a whiner, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he's wrong. If the commander went beyond some simple ribbing, especially if it was in front of the junior enlisted, then the case has merits. There are plenty of officers who are simply bullies

Unless you're a pussy...
Bullshit. A bully is a bully, whether he's 14 or 42. The only difference is that the ensign can't solve this by a fistfight behind the playground. Especially not if the chain of command wants to look the other way when it comes to his commander.

Blood in the urine can be caused by a viral or bacterial infection, and common viruses can seek out organs they normally don't (like my myocarditis), which doctors never mention unless they see it happen for some reason.
I never heard of a flu nearly killing a heart before, but it happens.
I might assume it was an infection. Definitely a specialist and ask them about organ infections and what you can do to check/treat.

For both you and whatever:
In April of last year I had what was diagnosed first as bronchitis and then as Pneumonia. Two weeks later I drove myself to the emergency room and checked in for what turned out to be a four-day our of the ICU.
Myocarditis, unknown viral infection, my Ejection Fraction was down to 10%. I had to stop and rest three times between my car and the emergency room. Took them about 12 hours to figure that out and get me into the ICU - they said part of the reason was that I should have been immobile and unconscious in my condition but I was interactive, cheerful (I think that part was from lack of blood) and I could move myself somewhat.
Frankly, it took them kind of forever to figure anything out and I'm pissed but I have other fish to fry now.
I was hovering at 15% EF (60% is normal) for probably 5 months and suddenly and kind of out of nowhere I had a few stair-step improvements they can't really explain, my last test was 24% EF and I can walk, including hills, without stopping for rest every few hundred feet. They want to do an ICD (installed defibrillator) but they have been stalling for several months and admit they don't really know what my arrythmia risk is because I'm an unusual case (relatively young, cardio system otherwise in good shape, and Myocarditis doesn't play a large role in the statistics).
I think I'm going to recover, but they've been scratching their heads all along. I think I just "fired" my second cardiologist and my current team is in a horrible location and it's a huge pain to go there. Eventually disability will run out and I work in a job field with 30 applicants for every position, and no one wants to hire anyone with health limitations.
Sorry, I'm normally a bundle of cheer. I just upped the dose of Carvedilol and it does really irritating shit to me. (It reduces blood pressure and slows heart funtion to promote healing. It also weakens you, makes you dizzy, light-sensitive, and irritable.)
I hope I didn't make you sorry you asked.

Yes, it leaks faster, and no, neither one will give you magic better gas mileage.
If the nitrogen is fully dehumidified and you fill your tires with it, that can make your pressures change less with temperature. If that keeps them higher you'll get a slight bonus to mileage, but not much.
Also, Air is 78% Nitrogen.
Helium would be worse, but neither one is much of a difference.
The amount of money Helium would save you from lower weight would probably (wild guess) be something like a dollar a year, to offset the sudden pressure loss, blowouts, and expense.
Sorry if that sounds grumpy, grumpy day, but no, don't fill your tires with helium.

Thank you thank you thank you, you made me smile. I've been in kind of limbo for almost a year and it makes me crazy sometimes.
When I dressed and walked out of the ICU after three days (four including the emergency room), the nurses actually had their jaws hanging. A few of them told me "people just don't *walk* out of intensive care," it made me feel like a bad-ass even though I was walking like a 90-year-old at that point.
And I had a pretty nurse on my arm, *that* doesn't happen every day.
I've been out of work, broke and sick before, at least this time I have insurance.
Thanks again for your prayers, it means a lot. You too... I do a ton of medical research, I'll add Vestibular Neuritis to my list. I should have access to the paid database of full studies soon, so I'll see if there's some new treatment - from what I read it usually only lasts a few weeks.

Not at all.
I have a bit of experience in what you are going through:
After my breathing trouble progressed to near drowning in my sleep, I, too, drove myself to the ER. (BTW, there are approximately 12-15 stairs from the parking lot to the ER door. Go figure.). I, too, am relatively young and they had no reason to suspect there was anything wrong with my heart, as I didn't even have edema. I, too, had dropped to 10% ejection fraction and my lungs were filling with water.
The AICD was a breeze. Psychologically, there are barriers to overcome from having it, but it makes you do some very serious deep-thinking and say more than just a few prayers. Then, you get used to it and rarely think about it.
If you have to get it, don't sweat it.
And every time you are in a meeting where someone conducts a safety briefing, instructing you where to find the portable defribrillator, you can just smile and say No thanks. I brought my own.
I've been lucky, I suppose, because I've had no problems whatsoever with the Carvedillol or the Digoxin.
Let me ask you a question: Are you taking a statin for high-cholesterol?

That kind of sounds like an experience i had, although yours is much more serious than mine turned out to be. I had been out mowing the lawn when my heart started to beat fast, didn't think much of it but it just kept on beating really fast and then it started skipping beats, and then it started to not just skip beats but beat a couple times, stop, beat real fast, stop, repeat, all the while each beat was just a pound in my chest that felt like my heart was trying to leap out. Anyway, drove myself to the ER and told them i though i was having a heart attack and they promptly gave me paperwork to fill out and told me to bring it back to the receptionist when i was done.
So, long story short, sat in the waiting room for an hour thinking i was gonna die and when the nurse finally checked my pulse she took me back for a doc to look at, turns out i was just badly dehydrated. Couple bags of fluids and all was back to normal.

I had something similar dagny. Horrible and it came on all of a sudden. Fine one minute....on the floor the next. It was either an inner ear infection or BPPV. Took forever to go away completely.
It was bad for a week, not so bad for another week but took a full year to go away. Years later, if I lie on my back and move my head suddenly, I get a little wave.
I was refinishing a desk that my mom bought in 1962 from some old lady whose husband had traveled in WWI. Mom "antiqued" it in 1968 in this nasty blue and brown paint. As I was stripping it last month, I realized it was mahogany. Then I started finding satin-wood inlay. Turns out to be a 1804 Hepplewhite or Sheradon. Anyway, as I was crawling around under it looking for a mark, I get a wave of room flipping. Freaked me out. Now I think it was the stripper but after the labyrinthitis I overreacted.

I'm glad to hear it, uh, read it.
There's a nasty little secret that the pharmaceutical companies have finally lost their grips on. Two years ago when my cardiologist (a medical junkie) spent about an hour with me explaining the damage that statins do to a heart there were only a couple of articles on Google about it. There was a doctor in Texas raising holy hell about it, trying to get people to listen and my doctor was one who did. He said that during med school one of the things you learn is about an enzyme that is present in everyone and is crucial to muscle health and the generation of energy, CO-Q-10. Because nothing had been known to effect it, he said that doctors pretty much stopped thinking about it after med school. THEN, a funny thing happened: There came about a rise in heart failure (not heart attacks) which seemed to coincide with the incidence of statin use. THEN it was found that one of the pharmaceutical companies had already made the link, but didn't publish the findings and, well, you have some very pissed off cardiologists on your hands.
Now, just two years later you can find tons of stuff about it on the net. The only bad thing about it is that a real and necessary supplement that should be taken by all statin users will end up looking like a fad. It's not. My doctor insists that I take the supplement because he said that it aides in strengthening my heart.
I just take it and say thanks.
Sorry. Now that I know, I can't resist telling everyone about it.

I was put on fluid restriction right after the ICU - no more than 60 oz fluids (total) per day.
I used to always drink more than a gallon every day - not including food, just water and other beverages.
Oh My God, the thirst. I took myself off the restriction when we got the right diuretic and fixed the edema (5 months of complaining later).

I'm taking 12 times the doctor's recommended dose of CoQ10 - because I looked up the studies. Incredibly important for anyone with heart issues or taking any drugs that affect the heart - though if neither of those cases apply you should probably take a much smaller amount. The typical dose is 35mg/day, I take 400, some people take up to 1000 based on one study but the methodology looked a little flaky to me.

"Research Indicates" that a small dose is probably good enough as a preventative measure, like 35mg/day. Can't hurt, literally, no one has found any side effects that I know of.
The big doses are for when you have a problem.
It's actually naturally found in your body but it gets depleted REAL quickly when you have damage to the heart.

I don't know. My heart failure was completely unrelated to any sort of blockage (I have clean arteries) but I do take Lipitor for high-cholesterol.
Mayo Clinic's website still states that some claims re its use are controversial but I've watched that opinion begin to fall away over the last two years. Of course, it will now be claimed by lunatics to cure everything from impotence to baldness and folks will begin to disregard it as a fad.
Until my very reputable, highly respected cardiologists says otherwise, I'm popping those pills.

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's a nasty little secret that the pharmaceutical companies have finally lost their grips on.
My doctor told me years ago she wouldn't put a rat on statins. I all but force feed my mama CO-Q-10. I stuff an entire stocking full of it for Christmas every year.
Another thing no one mentions is that certain classes of blood pressure medicine cause CHF. Many people with high blood pressure eventually die of CHF and they have assumed all these years that it was because of the hypertension when in fact in many cases it's the meds destroying the muscle tissue.
And Moki, thanks...the ScopPatch helped the nausea, but not the dizziness.

Great!
I'll be there next month for a conference. I'll keep my eyes open for any funny-business!

I'm so happy to find that others are hearing the same things that I am. For the first year that I talked about it, everyone just looked at me like I was a nut,

Oh, God, hypertension, don't get me started.
No, I never had it, my BP was always slightly low, but it comes up and IMHO and based on a lot of research, most treatments do more harm than good.
Most pharmaceuticals are over-tested for effectiveness (and the standards keep changing) and under-tested for allergic reactions, for example.
*Some* of the people who have hypertension react to excess salt, so the doctors tell *everyone* to eat bland food. They are not the *good* kind of morons.

The pateints are ahead of the doctors sometimes.
Some of my doctors hate me because I read the studies before they do.
"You need to do this next..."
"But according to the 25,000-person study done based in Houston over the last ten years, that will have the opposite effect."
"...i hate you..."

Nobody should ever sit back and let someone else be completely responsible for their health. You are doing the right thing.

You could do it the way I do: "Shouldn't I be taking a ton of CoQ10 if I have any damage to my heart, you idiots?"
Or you could do it the polite way.
Or just start taking it, it's not cheap but it's worth it. For a case where heart healing is involved I'd go to 400mg/day in one dose. Bt do look p the research online if you can.
You could start here: Introduction to CoQ10
Oh, great, my "u" key is failing. That's not fcking fnny. It only works if I pond on it.

Swansons. Online ordering. Google for Swansons Vitamins.
$12.99 for 90 caps 200mg
Much cheaper than the stores, even Wal Mart. They have a pretty good reputation as far as quality, unfortunately it's an industry not often reviewed for a variety of reasons.
I have noticed that the powder caps are twice as large as the liquid caps for the same dose.
