Obama's Soft Remarks: More Finger-Pointing From The Blame-Shifting President
— Ace

Krauthammer said of Obama's statement: Obama compounded condescension, incompetence, and narcissism all into one sentence.

But I think Byron York is a little bit more right, in putting this statement into the context of Obama's constant blame-shifting for his own failures.

Look at Obama's speeches in the last couple of months, and he has repeatedly scolded audiences for not working hard enough and for not sacrificing enough to achieve the goals he has set for his administration. He's done it with both supporters and with adversaries. With friends, his message has been: Nobody told you this would be easy, and you've got to worker harder to enact my agenda. With adversaries, his message is: You've had it too easy, and you've got to make sacrifices to enact my agenda. Obama's "gotten a little soft" remark fits into that theme: A soft America is one that is insufficiently willing to work and sacrifice to enact the Obama agenda.

...

Quit complaining. Stop grumbling. Get to work. Sacrifice. Obama is constantly telling Americans they need to shape up and snap to it, all for the purpose of making the Obama agenda a reality. Lately, with the economy worsening and his approval ratings falling, he's been having a hard time bending Washington, and the country, to his will. Is it any surprise that he's now telling Americans they've gotten soft?

I cut out the supporting evidence for York's thesis, the examples of Obama telling people they had to work harder, and sacrifice more, for his glory.

It's the ultimate blame-shifting, isn't it? Blaming Bush wasn't doing the trick, so now he's... just blaming the peons he governs.

It's our fault. We all share in this failure.

Not Obama so much, but the rest of us. The ones letting the team down.

Fittingly, that's the title of the piece of the same topic from The PJ Tattler:

Obama to America: ItÂ’s Not Me, ItÂ’s You

The polls we all see are telling him that the relationship is on the rocks. The Obama campaignÂ’s internal polls, the more expensive and accurate polls, may be telling him the same thing but in a stronger tone. ItÂ’s not on the rocks; itÂ’s history. Barry, sorry, but AmericaÂ’s just not that into you. And theyÂ’re not going to let you down easy next year. They would break up with you right now if they could.

Damn straight.

re: Obama saying he didn't say it would easy or fast to "fix" everything

1. Yes he did.

2. Remember the phrase swift and bold?

Swift and bold was Obama's favorite phase in his first few months. He said it with the clear implication that his policies would work immediately.

He doesn't say it anymore. Instead he says "no one told you change would come easy or quickly."

Bullshit. Obama is a liar.

About 48% of us knew better because even though the media covered up (and continues to cover up) the vast majority of all written documentation, video, and audio coming from both Barky and Mooshell, the little pre-election information we got was enough to scare the hell out of us.
To be fair, the RNC also helped the country out by nominating the anointed next-in-line senile loser RINO to run against the Golden Man-chile.

Funny, I don't recall Romney coming to the defense of Gov. Palin post-election while the frivolous law suits mounted. No. Instead, he kissed McCain's ass and got that SCOAMF re-elected to the Senate to try denying Americans non-prescription access to Vitamin C and other over-the-counter health supplements and medications.

Romney can't resist a cheap shot. He's such a poor marksman and poor sport, he hits the opponent's wife.

114 You know what?

When the job isn't being done right; when the paint brushes don't get washed, the prep work left undone and the tarps and painters tape is ignored and left in the supplies locker, you know you have to throw that painter you hired off the job.

But the painter's black, you say?  So what?  The job is just too damn important to let an incompetent fuck it up no matter what color he is.  Just because you're black doesn't mean that you can't be incompetent at a particular task, or even a whole group of them. You pay the man for the shitty work he's done, see him off,  and find some one better.

And some one might point out to Morgan Freeman that it isn't Obama that is failing, it is the policies that Obama is advocating that are failing.  They have failed when white people tried to implement them too because they don't work.

That isn't racism.  That's reality.

It can't be flaws in the policies - they were guaranteed and certified by Nobel laureates and economics professors - so the problem has to be with us hoi polloi.

Obama was just the 'annointed one' to harvest the results of a dumbed-down, indoctrinated populus of entitlement junkies. .....The Left has systematically gone about creating a looter class which depends on their leader to tell them what to think.

Which makes his remark about our society being 'soft' all the more ironic and outrageous.....given the part that the Left has played in making it so.

'Survival of the Fittest' is mean.....except if it's out in Nature, then it's natural.

I expect that the JEF will go on to blame this 'softness' on Capitalism, as an argument for why it 'doesn't work'......even though it is the socialistic hobbles that the Left has put in place that is making it seem like it doesn't work.

Obama had a Democrat Congress for two years. They enacted and engineered one of the largest takeovers of private enterprise this country has seen in decades. They passed bills that had to be printed in volumes. The size, scope, and reach of the Federal government has never been bigger. And yet, here we are with 9% unemployment, record low new biz creation, and the most dismal economic outlook since the Great Depression.

You on the Left believe that private industry is a wayward beast of burden that must be yoked and whipped regularly. Obama described his sole job outside of the public sector as 'working behind enemy lines.'

And now you are blaming the Right for the result of your obsession with choking private initiative and slandering success that isn't indebted to cronyism. Whip the beast unless it pays homage to your credentialed gentry.

I'd have slightly more respect for you if you were honest and admitted that you want a centrally planned fail-conomy with just enough GOP politicians in office to be used as scapegoats.

Willow,

It's a win-win for them......loot the govt & dole out goodies to their buddies, create a faux 'crisis' in order to prey upon it, and use it as an excuse to enact control-freak policies that do nothing to solve the problem. ....Then blame it on the other side, knowing that the libmedia will declare it so.

Obamacare is a perfect example of this. ....The problems with our healthcare system can be traced to two basic things:

1) The symbiotic relationship between Malpractice Lawsuits and Insurers who provide insurance for it. ....[The trial lawyers and Insurance industry have been huge donors to Dems because they don't want this to change.]

2) The lack of competition between Health Insurance companies across the country.  [this keeps the cost higher]

All we needed were a few simple reforms.....Tort Reform and Intersate Competition between Insurance Companies. ....And costs would go down.

Instead, Obama and the Dems declared that we were in a 'Healthcare Crisis' and used that premiss to enact their monstrous Obamacare bill......which does nothing to correct the problems that caused the skyrocketing costs of healthcare. .....But instead, in true predatory control-freak fashion....Obamacare is set to take control over our lives by controling our healthcare system.

For those of us not as old as your humble correspondent, Arsenio Hall was a black comedian who's late night show was hailed as ground-breaking, for some silly reason (It's the show Bill Clinton played the saxophone on, confirming his suitability for the Presidency). Arsenio started out all friendly and 'Hey, let's all get together for some laughs without the big color/race thang', but as the ratings dropped he started getting all sullen and faux-hood-thug; all lounging around scowling wearing his 'X' hat, having Louis Farrakan on for a hour-long interview, just getting his rage on. The show was cancelled soon afterwards.

When Barack starts wearing an 'X' ballcap and dranking out a 40 during a speech we can safely assume his long reign of error is drawing to a close.

176 Yes it's an "I have a friend" comment. Sue me.

Said friend divorced his ex for multiple violations of the marriage covenant.  They had been married for nearly twenty years and she had started screwed up (and around) at about the seven-year mark.  He stayed for the three kids and bailed when the youngest started high school.  That was almost three years ago.

Thanks to the laws of their blue state, she gets to butt-rape him continuously, taking him to court for more child support about once every six months, even though the youngest turns 18 this year (she's trying to stretch it to 19). He pays all their old debts, including a foreclosed-on house that was her fault. She has a job and she's socking away the alimony and the child support.  (The kid's dimed on her.)  Friend says that she's trying to punish him for leaving.

Why do I tell this story?  America=friend.  Barack Obama=friend's ex.  He has repeatedly violated the covenant between the people and their government and he will do his best to make America pay for "divorcing" him when the time comes.  He's sending out all the signals.

Keep watch.

184  ....He's sending out all the signals.

A presidential hissy fit? ...Temper tantrum? .....It's kinda scary to contemplate the kind of harm he could do to us, isn't it.

One this is sure.....he has put his own childish behavior on display so many times now, that he apparently has no shame about it....much less any inclination to refrain from it.

180 .Obamacare is set to take control over our lives by controling our healthcare system.

181 He has litttle to no scruples. He did nothing but castigate the Bush administration  for Iraq-a deficit etc, while  He continues Iraq, and extends it to pakistan, yemen, Lybia. He is allowed to turn on a dime from financial to previous foreign policy. He is allowed to encourage arab spring with nary a word from anyone of relevance.

it's the most gastly thing i've witnessed in my lifetime. He  harrass's half the country, tells others to suck it up and shut up. Sends his travelers to coerce  others.

182 Real hope:  friend says that, while there are no extra $$, he always has enough for all bills he has.  He attributes this to God.

And that's America's only hope as well.

The one silver lining for me personally(although that has also been harsh) in all of this ,  it has made me re -evaluate my existance and to turn towards G-d.

184 Ace, hunny...you're on vacation.
People on vacation don't work. Otherwise, they'd be at work.

185 Well here's what the problem is for Obama: either he admits he has bad ideas that don't work, or he blames someone - everyone - else for why his ideas are failures.

186 What he wanted to say is that "this is why communist didn't work. The people weren't on board and they actually wanted something versus sacrificing all for their dear leaders"..

187 I don't remember where I read it, but someone recently said, tongue planted firmly in cheek: Barack Obama is a GREAT leader...we are just lousy followers. Kinda sums it up for me.

189 As a couple noted above, this totally recalls Hitler scolding that if the surviving German people can't repel the Soviets and win the war that they weren't worthy of his leadership and the nation should be destroyed.

I don't ever remember W saying anything like this.

Take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes," Obama practically yelled at the crowd. "Shake it off. Stop complainin', stop grumblin', stop cryin'," he said before slapping the lectern and striding angrily across the stage.

I sense a pattern with the SCOAMF.
