15 Just back from a foray to the grocery store, literally around the corner. Miserable outside; wet, heavy snow which is more like sleet and somewhat windy. The crab lice and rats will be biting even harder down at Zucotti. If that's not enough, soggy clothing and lots of coughing and sneezing will make for an even more enjoyable "occupation." Have fun and vayr ge-hargit!

OccupyBoston was conned by a con man.

from the Boston Phoenix:

...Tuesday GA the Finance Accountability Working Group (FAWG) – I think 14 in all – got up to announce that they'd voted unanimously to remove two members, Paul Carnes and Sidney Sherrel, “due to their lack of accountability, transparency, and not providing information to both the FAWG and general assembly." Carnes was then given a chance to defend himself, which he did by claiming that the camp had been infilitrated by spies who were trying to control everybody's mind.

117 Well I was planning on raking all the leaves that had fallen so far today. Looks like it's gonna be a one time raking(assuming the snow melts), can't see any of the leaves that are still on the trees remaining after this.

Everytime the wind blows hard though, all that snow the leaves have been catching comes pounding down onto my house, surprised there haven't been any big branches broken yet... must've got rid of the weak limbs last winter.

A lot of utilities have quit going around trimming trees near lines. Several reasons (1) the tree huggers raise hell so much now (2) it cost money to do that and the down side is customer loses power for a while but cost of repair for those areas affected is less than trimming all areas.

Thanks to some other 'ron/ette who left a link to OWS' webpage (lost the track to who it was, but thanks much), I've been reading their GA minutes.  Truly gobsmacking stuff.

Fer instance, when you empower everyone in a leaderless, non-hierarchal, pure democracy movement, it seems no one wants to deal with a 2-day old mountain pile of wet, molding laundry.  Monty Python's movies Life of Brian and Holy Grail  nailed it.

10/21/2011 NYCGA Minutes:  "A few days ago, we had a lot of rain. All of the rain created a lot of wet laundry. You can see it on the other side of the plaza. ItÂ’s a mountain of wet laundry!!! Nobody wants to wash it! Several people have volunteered to assume this enormous burden for the second time. In the future, weÂ’re going to find a better way of doing this. For right now, we need money! WeÂ’re going to hire a truck and take the laundry and wash it ourselves. But we have to pay for the truck. We need $3,000 now! There are a lot of mothers here tonight. LetÂ’s show them we can do our own laundry! One more thing, the money is also for the machines, but we are washing the laundry – we just need a lot of quarters. (Somebody go get a shitload of quarters - Taggert)  We also need 15 volunteers to help load the trucks and wash the laundry. If you can help, go to the giant pile of laundry. ItÂ’s very easy to find. Thank you very much!!!!"

"Q:  You said you were trying to come up with a plan for the future. When do you think youÂ’ll have that?"

"A: I am not personally coming up with a plan. A Laundry working group has been proposed. Nobody wants to organize it and nobody wants to be on it. This is a collective problem that we all have to find a solution to together."

"Clearly we donÂ’t want all of those resources going mildewy and being ruined. But we also donÂ’t want this to continue happening. We need to put into place a process that will make sure that the next time it rains, people take personal responsibility."

Yes, the juice-box collective needs to enforce a process to make autonmous, empowered citizens of this new world take personal responsibility to do their stinkin' wet laundry.

Now that it is the Day After Tomorrow conditions, I don't think piles of wet laundry languishing about is high on their list of problems.  Hee hee.

My goodness, but you're stupid. Babies are raised by parents which increases demand for diapers, clothing, food, and so forth. As they grow they merge into the economy until they join the workforce just like anyone else. As the economy is just the total of all the time people spend doing useful (exchangeable) things, the economy would necessarily be better than it is if those 40-50 million kids had been incorporated naturally. And there'd be more tax dollars as a consequence to pay for all the crap you want government to do.

242 That 9 old men decided on their own to radically change the demographics of America by Okaying the abortion of an entire generation of Americans? Maybe so. But they didn't hold a gun to 44 million women's heads. The crime is that millions of American women thoughtlessly commit feticide - even sometimes using abortion as birth control. You can't really blame that behavior on the Supremes, can you? I personally respect women enough to believe that they can actually make terrible decisions all on their own.

Well, just in case the whole AGW thing doesn't work out to your advantage, you might want to pick up a very inexpensive and very effective tool for fighting the cold next time you're out and about. At Walmart or KMart or any hardware store with a camping section you will find aluminum survival blankets for less than $5. They are folded up to about the size of a deck of playing cards and are made of very thin aluminum. Sandwich it between your sheet and a blanket and it will be very effective at reflecting your own body heat back to you to aid in staying warm while you sleep. I live in Florida and keep one in my emergency kit because it doesn't have to be freezing outside to experience hypothermia.

This is a freaking nightmare storm here in Bucks County, PA.  Lots of power outages and we've been hearing pops and cracks of trees all day long.  We have lived here 7 years and never lost more than a couple of branches, even in Hurricane Irene, but we have 5 entire trees down and have lost half of two others, including half of a beautiful old weeping willow that was our pride and joy.   Not sure we will be able to save it.  An apple tree in our front yard came down across the front walk and it's gonna leave a big damn hole in our garden, not to mention no more free apples in the fall.  Our neighbors across the street are Japanese and had all these beautiful Japanese pear and maple trees, and all of them are gone.  It's really really sad.  It's a good thing I just got a job because it's gonna cost us a shit-ton to get all these trees trimmed and stumps taken out.

The snow slowed down here for a good little while, but about a half-hour ago it picked up again and it is snowing like a MF again now.  We easily have 5 inches on the ground and it looks like we are going to get at least 3 more.

First snow in the Philly area in October since 1979.

loppyd - not that close, I am in Doylestown.  I was wondering this morning about all the poor kids getting married today - my anniversary was Thursday, and when we were married the weather was beautiful.  It's usually one of the best weekends for a wedding.  Good thing Hubby and I went out last night - we thought it might be nasty tonight, but this is MUCH MUCH worse than we expected.

Friends of mine from Kentucky came up to Gettysburg for the first time last night.  They had planned this vacation for months.  I feel so bad for them.  Mostof the battlefield was cloased today and probably will be tomorrow.

I can just imagine how this sucks for all those small business people who run Halloween shops and haunted houses/hayrides this time of year.

Ugh, its called aging suburbia.

Where I lived, my parents bought our house right after it was built, along with hundreds of others, in 1982-1984. So all the kids in the neighborhood were born roughly 1983-1992. So from 1988-2005, loooots of trick or treaters. We all grew up though. When another batch of homes sell at rock bottom and young families move in, the cycle will repeat in another 5-10 years.

Halloween is never "on its way out" though.  Kind of mad that my zombie outfit which was awesome at age 11 is overplayed 15 years later.

364 Four inches here already along the CT shoreline-- another 4 to 6 predicted for overnight. Just got an e-mail from a friend three blocks away-- with photos of a humongous tree that fell on their house and garage around 4 p.m. When I checked out my back window, I saw a large branch had fallen across the door to my section of the garage-- not as bad as a whole tree, but large enough to have done serious damage to my car if I had parked it outside the garage.

Hoping we don't have a power outage-- it's the evil sticky wet kind of snow that pulls down power lines as well as busting trees.

Glad no one is blaming the kittehs for the Caturday nor'easter. I just took in a foster cat that was dumped by her former "family" in a nearby cemetery when they moved away. She's been homeless for a month and was just rescued on Thursday by the animal shelter I volunteer with. My friend brought her to me yesterday afternoon after she was checked out by the vet-- I'm just glad they found her before the storm hit. She's so thin I don't see how she could have survived this snow and cold. At any rate she's safe now and making up for lost time with the kitteh chow.

382 What's funny about "trick or treat" and kids going around to collect candy is that is a relatively new thing that did not get widespread until the 50s.

391 From "The Other McCain": "MANCHESTER – A city woman is accused of pimping a 16-year-old girl she met in Victory Park during the Occupy NH demonstrations. Justina Jensen, 23, of 341 Hanover St., is charged with felony prostitution. Police allege Jensen met a teen at the local protest, which is an offshoot of Occupy Wall Street, and used the Internet to arrange a first liaison for the girl with a man who turned out to be an undercover police officer. Police said the teen’s mother called them Thursday about noon to say her daughter was missing and that her photograph had been posted on a website advertising adult party entertainment." You can't make this crap up. Yup, just like the Tea Party, alright!

So let's tally the shit that these Occupiers offer society, as measured by their own behavior and internal policies:

Child prostitution
Public masturbation
Shitting on police cars
Regulated speech ("we use gender-neutral pronouns...", etc)
Racial segregation ("no white in this part of the tent city", etc)
Rape
Internal security
Covered-up crimes
TWINKLES
Civil unrest
Widespread theft
Denial of free press
etc etc etc

Yeah, let's let them run things! What could possibly go wrong?

Ask the average American couple if they want to have 4 or 5 kids.

They will laugh you out of their house, after asking how the hell you got in there in the first place.

Most people don't want oodles and oodles of children. We aren't like that deranged psychopath on 23,512 kids named J and counting...

Posted by: CAC at October 29, 2011 07:09 PM (ws79p)

We've been socialized that way. We give up children for cars and new furniture. Mom has to work to pay for the lifestyle or at least the taxes making the kids a burden instead of a joy. They can't play outside anymore  without supervision so they're underfoot, college is too pricey, amoung other ills. American couples are also not staying married so who wants to take the chance of getting stuck alone with too many kids.

The marxists are suceeding beautifully. Family? "We aren't like that deranged psychopath..."

I sometimes wonder if Canada's, and much of the West's taxation system is designed to punish 'the natives' and encourage them to have less kids or take a significant hit to their quality of life, while supplementing the incomes of every person from a third world craphole and encouranging them to have more children since even with four or more kids, they're government funded quality of life is better than the shitholes they came from.

We're being forced to finance our own invasion and colonization.

For now, after the fall, I expect a huge backlash.

The idea of a big family was born in agricultural societies where children, especially males, were an asset after a few years. Once we changed from a rural agricultural society to a city wage earning society children became more of a financial burden instead of a boon.

Top that off with both parents having to work now to make ends meet and you can see why working people are not having lots of children. So who is having the children now?

The ones who have children for a living. The moochers who scam the system for 80K year in welfare and SSDI payments based on a wad of illegitimate children. .

Blame it on LBJ.

412 When I was a kid, we'd load up with rotten eggs, socks full of sand or rocks, and shaving cream-

I had a high school classmate who specialized in running onions through a juicer about a month before Halloween and letting the juice ferment. Then he'd spray it on cars with a water pistol on Halloween night. The onion juice not only smelled awful but was sticky and hard to clean off. I don't think he was ever caught.

Posted by: Basement Cat at October 29, 2011 03:39 PM (opUTx)

413 I think having one or two kids make them more of a pain in the ass. If you had a bunch you couldn't helicopter parent all of them and they wouldn't expect so much. They would have to be more self reliant. That's probably what's wrong with this OWS and many of the boomer and boomer babies--they are only children or one of two. They expect to be coddled. No kid with say, 7 siblings expects every whim to be satisified.

Thank God someone still understands the importance ensuring that the media finds our candidates acceptable.

Media fatcats and talking heads are of course the rightful political rulers of this country, and we idiot taxpaying rubes should just count ourselves lucky that they sometimes allow us to have candidates that are not complete carbon-copies of the Democrats, but are only sycophants who are compelled to reach across to Democrats at any opportunity.

But I've prolly given hundreds of hotel dumpster cats the tuna I bought for my lunch. I adopted the  two cats in my house from the wilds. They love me so much and it's reciprocal. You did the right thing.
