Oh Perfect: Obama To Address Nation At 9PM
— Ace

Ugh. The timing makes me think he'll be asking networks to preempt programming for another campaign commercial. That is, a "major address." In which he says the same crap.

Although this time he'll be committing to a plan, I guess. Reid's plan, which he likes a lot, because it punts the question to January 2013, and it only costs the country a mere $2.5 trillion to placate Obama.

1 Obama speech.  Is there anything it can't do?

2 good one from Guy Benson on twitter

BREAKING: Obama to introduce debt plan at 9pm.
CORRECTION: Obama to offer speech demonizing others' debt plans at 9pm.

Jesus Christ.

This man has been giving the same freaking speech for 2 weeks in the morning, now he's taking it to prime time.

At what point do the networks tell him know.

Is anyone willing to take bets on how many prime time speeches Obama has in September and October of 2012?

Will the media continue to give him all the free prime time he wants? Or at somepoint do they tell him to kiss off.

8 Well,  I am hoping he has a major melt-down.  It's the only reason I will watch it.

We are officially in Hugo Chavez territory.

I predict we will hear the following phrases:
corporate jets
school loans
some people want to (starve granny, not pay troops, cut off SS)
debt ceiling = credit rating (not true, of course)
I worked as hard as I could to reach compromise (a big, fat lie)

19 Obama's recipe for debt relief success:

Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf;
    Witches' mummy; maw and gulf
    Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark;
    Root of hemlock digg'd i the dark;
    Liver of blaspheming Jew;
    Gall of goat, and slips of yew
    Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse;
    Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips;
    Finger of birth-strangled babe
    Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,—
    Make the gruel thick and slab:
    Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
    For the ingrediants of our caldron.
    Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
    Cool it with a baboon's blood,
    Then the charm is firm and good.

Don't worry, 'Bammy.  No man of woman born can defeat you.

Most Presidents have used the bully pulpit sparingly, since the more you use it, the less effective it gets.

Personally, I think this kind of crap is just going to harden the Republicans.  Why would they want to compromise if they're being called out publically so much?

30 Wonder if the Boy Wonder will repeat what he said in a speech to La Raza?

"The idea of doing things on my own is very tempting, I promise you, not just on immigration reform. But that's not how our system works. That's not how our democracy functions," Obama told the National Council of La Raza.

Speaking at the organization's annual conference in Washington, Obama said passing immigration reform measures will require support from both sides of the aisle in Congress.

"Let's be honest, I need a dance partner here, and the floor is empty," he said.

Audience members greeted Obama with a standing ovation, and responded to his discussion of immigration reform by chanting, "Yes you can, yes you can."

38 I know there is a lot of debate on here about ideological purity and the dreaded RINOs.  However, there is, IMO, little doubt that if the freshman class of 2010 in the House (decidedly more conservative than the establishment R's already in Washington) more closely mirrored the establishment R's, we'd already be saddled with a craptastic deal.

IOW, even a small number can be effective when they have the same principles.  And the TPC's of 2010 are, thus far, keeping us in the game, even though there are only about 60 of them in the House.

Obama is the product of affirmative action/self-esteem education.  Everything he has ever done has been praised as if it were golden because to do otherwise is to risk accusations of racism or negatively affect his self-esteem.  Now he is face-to-face with reality and he doesn't like it but doesn't know what to do about it.  Good thing the MBM is still in affirmative action/self-esteem mode.

Some highlights:

Outlay reduction for FY 12 – $25 billion cut in discretionary spending. Debt limit increase right away – $1 trillion Does not touch Obamacare funding, Medicare or Social Security Includes the McConnell automatic increase without a vote – they tried to sell us on “your boss isn’t actually voting for a debt limit increase” Joint Select Cmte Created – 12 Members, if Commission recs pass on entitlement reform, then Pres gets another debt limit increase Budget Authority in FY 12 is $ 7 billion less than FY 11 in discretionary spending

I would also take anything Erickson and his sources say with a grain of salt. EE wants only CCB and CCB alone, and he's going to find as many discontented sources (and their slants) as possible. Though we also have the fact that the new Boehner plan isn't going to pass the Senate, so the more important issue is what the House Rs choose to do from there.

207 No argument, Blue Hen. Any plan that ignores MC, MA and SS (and military spending) isn't going to cut it. I don't take issue with any of the cuts Boehner or Reid propose, but only that there are two few and that there should be accompanying reductions in other areas. Boehner's plan is too small to make a difference. Also, the Dems need to have some input on how those savings are to be achieved if this thing is going to clear Congress. I want the biggest possible debt reduction that will clear both houses - and that means Boehner's plan is only a little better than McC's. I still have hopes for a bigger deal.

What does he mean by automatic increase without a vote? If you vote for Boehner's plan, you're voting to increase the debt limit in exchange for x, y, and z, simple as that.

--------

25 billion in fiscal year 2012 cuts...now does that seem even close to worth it? After all of this, THAT'S what we get? Because, make no mistake, all of the rest of it is total BS. There will be no additional 1 trillion in cuts 10 years from now. There will be nothing grand that comes from this committee, as there never is from any of these committees. You're still not getting it. The Dems haven't been denied input. They didn't bother to even submit a fucking budget last year. Fuck deals. We have to change what we are doing. Drastically. All of the PIIGS were 'doing deals'. Look at where they are now.We have been kicking the can down the rood for over thirty years. We cannot sustain this, and we cannot draw still more out of what's left of our economy.

Deals exist only to give the false impression that the people in charge are 'doing something'. Again, the EU and thePIIGS have been doing these stunts for years. They're failing.

Exactly. It's part of the Incumbency Protection Act. Notice how much is done without public oversight and review. You have a handful of people in a room with phones to the Executive. Even then, should the members agree on a bill, the law will create yet another unelected, unaccountable commission that hides responsibility.

Here's the plan: Do nothing. The ceiling imposes its designed restraint and the Feds (and by extension, recipients of redistributive wealth however manifested) are forced into responsibility. Just walk away and say, "We have law already in place and we're following the law now because previous Congresses and Executives kept rewriting it irresponsibly. We're now having to be adults."

How many times do we have to be held hostage by the political class to realize the insanity of this recurring dereliction?
