— Open Blogger Followed a Drudge link to an article about what a wretched ambassador one large Obama donor has turned out to be and loved this passage:
Things got so bad, the report says, that staffers asked for transfers to Afghanistan and Iraq due in part to "a climate of acute stress" at the embassy.
Which embassy, you ask? Why, Luxembourg. Yep, as cushy and civilized a posting as a dedicated Foreign Service employee could ask for, and they're begging to transfer to Iraq and Afghanistan to get away from this woman. As Glenn would say, Heh. ..fritz..

Yup, 500 large buys you an ambassadorship in Luxembourg.
I mentioned her earlier as one of our most recently "funemployed" in the unemployment thread. I love how she gave the excuse she was leaving the post to "spend more time with my family." Of course, this scrunt is from the city across the Lake from me, Seattle.
Posted by: runningrn at February 04, 2011 12:57 PM (ihSHD)
Oh that Stroum. Of course. It's amazing how in such a socialist progressive place as Seattle we still basically have nepotism and royalty who get what they want due to their connections and check books.
p.s. curious, you are right to be suspicious of Bill & Melinda Gates. As he gets older, Bill seems like he wants to more and more emulate George Soros, maybe not actually be a politician, but be the puppet master that pulls the strings. And oh how everyone dances for him and his philanthropic dollars.

Yeah, cause that Todd Palin smear story really worked out well for them. It really is sad, but the media can say anything it wants. Sensationalized headlines always grab attention, tiny (if they're even put in at all) little corrections do not.
So, was Boehner the third piece of bread in the Kennedy/Dodd waitress club sandwiches? Yeah, unbelievable.

At Christmas I bought some chipotle gift cards. Little token things. The manager told me if I spent just 5 bucks more I would get a free meal that I had to purchase before the end of the year. So I gave each person the register receipt for the free meal. Every single one of them told me that the manager of their chipotle refused to honor the free meal. I was so embarrassed that I ended up buying them all starbucks giftcards too. And I went back to my chipotle and asked, if these people followed the rules, why didn't you honor the receipt, still attached to the gift card, for their free meal. They basically embarrassed me in front of everyone in the store, told me they would not honor it as it had to be honored when they decided and then told me it had to be honored on certain days and hours. I will never buy chipotle again. So couldn't happen to a nicer company.

I so wish boehner would come out in front of the cameras with a veritable harem and his wife and say, It's cook, what's your problem. And then have todd and sarah come out and say the same.
I'm so sick of the double standard that the dems/libs employ.

Sadly, Seattle. To be fair, her parents Sam & Althea Stroum were amazing philanthropists in Seattle, they funded a lot of Jewish charities not to mention cancer research, libraries, art. The city of Seattle owes a lot to them for their good works, which never seemed to be out of ego but rather based on a genuine desire to contribute to their community.

O/T but sorta related to crazy feminist women, I've been looking for new books to read and one of the book catalogs I get recommended a series of mysteries where the main character owns an herb shop in Texas. They were selling 3 for a reasonable price. So, I get the books and start the first one and the main character is a seriously belligerant feminist who doesn't want to be a mom, only needs a man for sex once a week, and supports NOW. I'm thinking "what'd I get myself into" flip the book over and read about the author--dammit she's a former Berkeley professor who now lives in Austin. Caveat Emptor I guess.

Usually, the staff acts as a babysitter, and if the Ambassador causes trouble, word gets back to the President, and the idiot is removed.
Took an awful long time for Hillary to get permission from Obama to remove this idiot ... that is the really embarrassing part.

An example of the Ambassador's management skills from the OIG report:
"The Ambassador believes her major contribution is in the area of public diplomacy. This generally takes the form of responding to representation opportunities in this highly pro-American society or attending diplomatic community events. (The public diplomacy section of this report should be read in this context.)
She has had a high school outreach project on the missionÂ’s agenda for some months, but its execution has been delayed by a lack of guidance and coordination, for which she accepts no responsibility, as well as the absence of clearly de
fined project goals."[my emphasis added]
Apparently, she thinks all she has to do as Ambassador is show up and mingle at cocktail parties and attend some ribbon cutting ceremonies like a Chamber of Commerce rep.
Thank you 52% for installing Unserious People in leadership positions spouting empty platitudes like, "Yes, we do Big Things like Build Stuff and Invent Stuff!" <Spit> <Spit> <Spit>

They honestly believe everyone is like that (greedy, dishonest, racist, too). They claim a moral high ground position against it, but, ultimately, they behave badly because they actually believe everyone does it (and they've done penance with their 'enlightened' stance).

It was first revealed in a New York Times article in May: Barack Obama loves Seattle-based Fran's Chocolates. And so, apparently, does his wife. At a fundraiser in Seattle Thursday, Michelle Obama told the crowd that while her husband melts for their smoked salt caramels in milk chocolate, she prefers the dark chocolate variety.
Who got the Obamas hooked on Fran's? The same person who keeps them well supplied - Seattle businesswoman Cynthia Stroum.
"It's become our shtick," said Stroum, lead fundraiser for Obama's national finance committee. "He sees me and before he even says hello, he puts out his hand - 'OK, where are they?' "
It all started a year and a half ago, at a Seattle campaign stop. To welcome the candidate to the Emerald City, Stroum put together a welcome basket. In went a box of her favorite Fran's milk chocolate salted caramels.
"He had it backstage before he came out to make his speech," she said. "As he was entering the stage, he saw me and whispered in my ear, 'Oh my, what were those? Those are phenomenal. I want more.' So that became my little treat for him."
It wasn't too long before Stroum learned of Michelle's fondness for dark chocolate. Now, not an event goes by where Stroum doesn't greet the Obamas with their new favorites. She gave Michelle another box yesterday.
"The competition is fierce," Stroum said. "'Cause (Barack) doesn't like to share them. The Secret Service started bugging me for them."
07.2008
So, Obama hooked her up with the ambassador gig because she's his dealer.
Makes sense..

She is from a family that puts a premium on public service and altruism, and usually the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. I'd say she doesn't deserve the abuse she is getting over this.
She obviously has a strong personality, a fair amount of self confidence, and hadn't learned the leadership skills necessary to prepare her for the job. I've seen a lot of new managers in a similar position. Heck, I've been the new manager in that position.
You would think that someone in the administration would sit her down and give her a bit of guidance, but the Obama administration doesn't seem too good about building leaders or helping people grow.

It's way beyond their skill set. They are all a bunch of unqualified social justice hacks who have never worked a day in the real world/private sector (the number of people in Obama's cabinet who have worked in the private sector is like a single digit percentage). They are all in way over their paygrade, which reiterates just how screwed we all are. I yearn for the days when we had some actual adult supervision in the Oval Office. Fran's Chocolates are really yummy. I used to give them out as Christmas gifts all the time til they tore down the store closest to me. Fran's husband, Peter Bigelowe was the CEO of the first hospital I worked at here in Seattle. She went into the chocolate biz sort of lateish in life. He ended up retiring first. My cousin's wife used to keep the books for Frans (when it was a much smaller operation), and she said Fran was a very warm, down to earth woman. Her hubby did a good job as CEO of our hospital. I can't fault the Obamas for loving Frans. The macadamia nut gold bars are especially good.

Ambassador kept her shoulder to the wheel, nose to the grindstone, eyes on the ba...... Oh look! A shiny yellow American school bus in Luxembourg Whee!! (more from the OIG report):
"During the inspection, staff was working to
finalize plans for the Ambassador and select embassy and public affairs staff to tour high schools throughout the country in a typical American yellow school bus. The Ambassador conceived of the project in May, but it had yet to come to fruition. Although the project can be seen as a legitimate example of outreach to a younger audience, the amount of time spent on it has prevented the public affairs officer and the section from concentrating on other, more substantial work, including establishing professional contacts in the media, educational, and cultural sectors; developing an effective alumni network or organization; establishing regularized follow-up with exchange candidates, including those from the International Visitor program; and ensuring that the Fulbright Exchange program is on track and has a robust recruitment process."
IOW, let's all take a ride on the Magic School Bus and leave all that boring grunt work for another time. Focus on the Big Things, people!

so mexico said they would give electricity and then they said f**k you, now we're not giving it to you?
Rush said it was more like Mexico was going to give TX electricity til they realized "crap, if it's cold in TX, it's cold here." So because of their own domestic need, the deal was off.

So, how quickly can the new governor of NM get that natural gas ban reversed?
I don't know, but it was signed in by executive order. Nice that Bill Richardson isn't around to deal with the aftermath of his fricking decision.

Out of power? Build another windmill Sancho
Sounds like a plan, San.
During the most recent record cold spell in UK, none of the power was generated by any windmills. The Brits are beginning to think they may have to rethink that goal to have about a quarter of their electricity be produced by wind power.

I don't think I'd hold $3400 against anyone there. At about $100/bottle for embassy-quality quaffing wine, and OMG have you ever bought whisky in Europe, that would fit in the trunk of a Fiat easily.
Now the sleazy nasty c*nt part, that right there's a problem. Those people are friends of ours. Why should they have to put up with that?
