Thanks to DaveInTexas for the video.

Turns out there was a bit more to the farewell address.

Original Post:
Or fired or something.

“MSNBC and Keith Olbermann have ended their contract. The last broadcast of “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” will be this evening. MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC’s success and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Buh--bye.

The great Ace of Spades HQ-Keith Olbermann throw-down. First me, then Jack, then Dave, then Ace. We just beat him like a drum. Thanks Keith for all the new Twitter followers I got that that. Good times, good times.

Didn't the Comcast takeover of NBC just get approved? Did he jump before he was pushed? Or was he pushed?

You truly can't fix stupid.

this reminds me of a doc i caught on tv on the youngest candidates to run for election in the 08 cycle, they all showed their youthful ignorance of money by running on adding money to the budgets of the unions and other groups and that somehow would fix everything; they praised Obama and talked about their heroes like Huey Long, it made me want to sit down w/ them and show them w/ a blackboard that this money doesn't come out of nowhere

I also found it amusing that every time they heard about an opponent's attck on them they started whinning to the camera how unfair it was

i'm so disgusted to be part of the generation y types

Posted by: red speck at January 21, 2011 07:10 PM (hcRaZ)

456 Actually, the timing of this is pretty standard in broadcasting. Comcast looked at all of NBC-U's contracts and told NBC-U which contracts (i.e. "assets") they would be purchasing at closing. They probably told NBC-U back in the summer that Keefums was out, but NBC-U couldn't do anything until it got closer to closing and the FCC and FTC gave their blessings. That happened this week, and now the closing is on for next week, thus, Bathtub boy given his walking papers today.

He won't get the entire amount of whats left on his contract because he has to move on somewhere. He needs the spotlight, so he will sit for 3-6 months. If NBC-U wanted to, they could hold him to his contract for the remainder and have him sweep the studio every night.

I'm thinking he ends up on Free Speech TV. It is a crappy little channel that doesn't seem to be on too many cable systems but Directv and Dish have it. It features such great programming as: Democracy Now, Every Church a Peace Church, Gay USA,  and the Thom Hartman Show. Pretty far left, they could probably make Keef their token "conservative" there.

Posted by: curious

Comcast wasn't in on the meeting, they just told NBC-U that they would not assume those contracts, so it was up to GE to do the deed. When I was in radio, we did this when our company bought another radio station, but you waited until FCC approval and right before closing because you didn't want the "talent" to leave until the last second. NBC-U didn't want to lose Oberdouche until the deal was finalized and Comcast was approved. If they shitcanned him earlier and Comcast walked or didn't get approval, nBC-U would be forked.

As for which contracts that Comcast will assume, yes they already know. The contracts that Comcast will not assume will have to be honored by GE. So GE will probably try to work out a "buyout" of the contracts that Comcast doesn't assume.

I don't think this is political except that Comcast is unwilling to dump money down a rathole for ideology.

Too bad for the DNC: They realized too late that that slimy psycho, Olbermann, was one of the RNC's best assets.

But they haven't learned yet. Slimy psychos, Ed Schultz and Chis Matthews, will continue to do for Republicans what Olbermannn failed to accomplish. They, too, are two of the Republican Party's best assets.

The RNC has its own problems, though. Unless she is marginalized, and soon, Sarah Palin will become the Cynthia McKinney of the Republican Party. Behaviorially and intellectually, there isn't any difference between their respective supporters.

For classically bad lefty journalism (but I repeat myself!) look up the David Bauder AP story on this. He mentions how Keith was whipping the Spitzer/Swallower show, but strangely fails to mention at all some other show that was on at the same time - and was beating Keith 3 to 1. Then, there are the usual accolades from all the lefty groups, and for balance? Um, nothing.

Are you telling me when Roger Ailes hangs it up, the article won't feature a few quotes from the other side, for balance?

IF SP should happen to break from the republican party and angles for a third party run at the presidency like McKinney did with the Green Party, Or go on a blockade run bringing food to China's mainland.. 510 Ode To The Olbermann

Eyes like steel, cold oceans of deep thought
Until the flint of the Special Comment ignites
The Vesuvian flaming orbs, and the diatribe
Feared by the powerful. One million or so
Stroked vicariously by this cable warrior.
And then the door, ah, the door, lesser men
With higher titles point his way forward.
He needs to sidle and squirm through the jambs,
Built for the smaller heads of mere bosses and staff.
The bath, and the hot-water of self-satisfaction
Awaits you, and Palin can feel safe for two years
Unless you intend to void the non-compete clause
Of your buyout.
