— Slublog If you've been watching the news lately, you may have noticed a narrative building. It looks a little something like this, and this. I understand the impulse behind such opinions - historically, incumbent presidents are very difficult to defeat, and none of the announced GOP candidates has thus far had a "wow" factor. Fair enough.
There is a major difference between boring and weak. Charles Krauthammer suggests in today's column that a lack of baggage and flash may be just what we need. He then lists the major candidates and in looking over them, there emerges a trend: political experience. Business success. Briefly:
Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House
Tim Pawlenty, former Governor
Mitt Romney, former Governor
Rick Santorum, former Senator
Herman Cain, successful businessman
Michelle Bachmann, former state senator and member of Congress
Haley Barbour, former current Governor
Gary Johnson, former Governor
There's a considerable amount of political and business experience there. Again, not exciting, but weak? It's an assertion without evidence that's only being made to further the "no one can beat The One" narrative. In other words, utter nonsense. If I were consulting one of the candidates, I'd take this head-on in a stump speech. Something along the lines of this:
Pundits in the media and the political class in Washington are pointing to my GOP opponents and I and they're calling us a weak field of candidates...they claim that none of us have what it takes to defeat President Obama. They are trying to make this election about us, but we can't allow them to do that. This election is about a simple set of questions, ones that have been asked before: are you better off now than you were four years ago? Have you had to tighten your budget? How much does it take to fill your car with gas?And some more along those lines. This election needs to focus on one thing: Obama's record. That's it.These are simple questions, and I suspect for most Americans the answers are no, yes and way more than I can afford.
This election is not about who is the flashiest candidate, or who can attract the biggest crowds or make the prettiest speeches. Are my opponents and I the most exciting people to grace the political stage? Depends on who you ask. But are we weak? No.
You know what's weak? The dollar. The housing market. The job market. Wages. Our foreign policy.
Those are weak, and the policies of the current administration is what has weakened them.
If the administration wants to have a conversation about weakness, I'm all for it because the things that are weak right now matter more to the American people than what the media and pundits are focused on. What do you think Americans care more about? A candidate who 'wows' crowds with his words, or a candidate who wants to move past words and take action that will improve the economy? As we've seen, pretty words and charisma don't create jobs, they don't make the world instantly love us and they don't lower gas prices.
Don't let the media set the narrative. We don't have a weak field. We have a weak president.
Ed. Note: changed two paragraphs, included the word "Business."

The good news is elections are almost always a referendum on the incumbent. That doesn't mean you can nominate anyone but just someone plausible and reasonably non-threatening.

In a hostile media environment, only a "baggage and flash" candidate would dare do that, because doing it is baggage. It stains the candidate as an outsider, instantly.
Kraut's just threatening to defend Obama against anyone who does it, and condemning the cracka-ass voters who want it. Which is like, no shit. That's his job.

But even at dinner last night I was sitting with my friends, and itÂ’s like the more people talk about it the more interested they are and the more convinced they are that you could be a nominee for the Republican Party. What IÂ’m looking for is someone whoÂ’s not going to take bullshit, not going to let the media run them around, and who is going to give it back to Obama. I know he worked for OWaffle. Dead on arrival for me.
As a resident Rino/ Monty disciple ( Doomer), I'm actually much more optimistic than most here it seems as far as 2012 goes. I think TPaw, or even Mittens can knock off OWaffle relatively comfortably.
That said, I'd love someone with more sizzle/ reliably conservative. I'm not worried about boring though. I'm concerned with the ability to first campaign, and then govern with the economic crisis we face in mind. The balls factor, if you will.
I still think a wild card who we really aren't focused on will be our nominee. The tea party spirit will be captured, just a matter of who decides to grab it.

A few months ago, I would've bet money that Hillary was gonna primary him. Either the DNC has paid her off and/or it's become apparent to her that she ruined her chances by accepting the SOS job. If she had stayed outside of the administration, she could've pointed her boney finger at Obie and screeched about what a fuck up he is. Now, however, she's just part of the problem.

So Toonces courts Hollywood last night to a fawning Will Ferrell, Tom Hanks, etc.
Obama was introduced by DreamWorks Animation SKG’s chief executive Jeffrey Katzenberg, who noted that about three years ago, most “everyone in this room embarked on a great journey and adventure with you,” he said, directing his remarks to the president. “I think we all would agree that nobody has ever inherited a set of challenges — and nobody I think could possibly be better in tackling them. So we all feel very lucky to have you as our president for four more years,” Katzenberg added to much applause.
All of these useless idiots can FOAD. Unbelievable. Toonces also remarked about how the economy is recovering......huh?

In fact, if the GOP can find a single testicle among the lot of them, what we'll be hearing (finally) is that the recession never actually "ended", but was simply masked by artificially inflating GDP with hundreds of billion$ of borrowed Taxpayers' dollars pumped into the economy as welfare handouts and public sector payoffs... while the unemployment rate skyrocketed WELL BEYOND the promises of the Office of the President-Elect, and stayed there.
The "wow" factor will reveal itself when Americans begin to understand how the Spendulu$ was designed to keep million$ flowing into Democrat campaign coffers and create the illusion of a "recovery", not to actually heal the damage wrought by socially suicidal leftist policies. All of this will be laid - rightly - at the feet of Congressional Democrats, who began tanking a healthy economy in 2007, and BHO, whose lack of experience and un-American, anti-free-market, dictatorial, collectivist policies made things much, much worse. They won't have Bush to kick around in 2012.
But that testicle thing... that's a BIG 'if'.
**Anyone But Obama

And as someone who increased state spending 10% a year, he's a big spender like Bush.
Awesome.
About 80% of the world thought Obama was an exceptional leader six months into his presidency, when even many Republicans congratulated him on winning and wished him luck for the sake of America.
And I question the judgement of those 80% too.
Congratulating and wishing the new President well for the sake of the country is not the same as calling him 'an exceptional leader'. He is not, nor has he ever been that. Anyone who thinks he is or was is unfit to be the GOP nominee.
But again, he's your guy so enjoy. Just expect to catch a ton of shit (not from me) every time you pimp the guy here. He's awful.

If either one of those things does not come to pass we will not make it past the next election in 2014. We will either spiral into insurrection in the manner of the Wiemar Republic via hyper inflation or we will spiral into collapse due to mass rioting in the urban areas due to government collapse.

Sorry guys, but it is a weak field right now, unless you count Trump, then the story goes off the wall a bit. Trump, the Dem in RINO Clothing, is the joker in the pack, a wild card play that can only hurt the GOP in the long run. Sure, some straight talk is good about our dealings with international trading partners, but the birther thing smells to me like a honey pot trap set by the Dems, who right now seem to be politically outmanuvering some slow to get it Republican leaders. H/T to Bonnie Tyler
Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream
of what I need
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
