ONT - Your Semi-annual Krakatoa Edition
— Open Blogger

"Who is this tool? Where are Meat & Gangrene?"

Shhh. It'll be ok. I've been to this rodeo before. Just sit back, stick your head in the sand like a penguin, and think of England.

I don't know about the rest of you, but it seems like forever since we felt the cleansing purity of a flame war.

Maybe it's because there's just too damn much agreement on here.

My observation is that flame wars are usually lit in order to release tension. So if you want a flame war, you all need to raise the tension.

To that end, I propose the following experiment in ambiguity.

Your job, morons, is to make as many ambiguous comments about the following topics and each other as possible.

If there is room for plausible misinterpretation, revel in it. Roll in it like a dog would in a week-dead hippie. Dive in head first, and get streaked from stem to stern. You likely won't notice the added stench anyway.

Then get up and shake off that stank on as many hapless bystanders as possible.

Specificity of any sort and the explaining of any previous comments that does not add further ambiguity is highly discouraged. Although I imagine coming up with any guidelines that would register in any measurable way to this lot is an exercise in futility.

With that business taken care of, let's proceed to all the links that are fit for the ONT.

If I'm known for anything on AoSHQ, and admittedly, it is likely I'm not even known by most of you for even this, it is that I have something of a fetish for Climate News and for Zombies.

You can imagine my pleasure at finding both topics covered in this article about last winter's record cold in Europe.

I have been absent from real climate reportage on AoS for a while, but for all the scoops, as always, it is hard to beat Marc Morano's site, Climate Depot.

While in the UK, did you hear Lady Gaga is suing a London ice cream parlor over its new flavor, Baby gaga?

The real story here isn't that she's suing someone, but that "Baby gaga" is made from breast milk. Human breast milk.

Half of you are disgusted. Half are turned on. Don't worry though -- you are all held in equal regard in my mind.

You will never guess where this is going. From that previous link, the wonder that is the internet took me strange places, and you will probably never forgive me for where it is about to take you.

"It’s all safe. We’re getting the semen in the same way breeders do, using an artificial vagina and storing it in the formula they use.”

And speaking of artificial vaginas, word is Andrew Sullivan has already booked a flight for this year's festival.

Don't you wish Liberals were as easily deterred as bank robbers?

Robber

Princess Sodo-my-ore was offended by the questions she had to answer during her confirmation hearings. According to this article, she was apparently known as a whore for Senators.

"There were private questions I was offended by. I was convinced they were not asking those questions of the male applicants," Sotomayor said, alluding to questions about her dating habits. It was unclear if she was referring to private sessions, prior to her formal nomination hearing, with individual senators.

I don't know. Maybe I'm misreading that. It is a little ambiguous, which goes with the theme at least.

I understand Vic songs are supposed to be part of every ONT experience. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but I think this covers it. I know, I know. It's furrin. But don't worry, they added subtitles.

I've been trying to think of an easy way to explain to my Democrat friends how their party's economic shenanigans are collectively boning our country. Monty has contributed a long series of commentary and links that are helpful to anyone willing to read and comprehend, but for most my Lib compadres, all that reading would just harsh their mellows.

I thought this was a pretty good representation, assuming the U.S. is a penguin, (and who doesn't?), and that Obama and his band of Economic Geenyuses were a seal.

For some reason it didn't help the conversation.

Photobucket

Rand Paul's explanation actually worked better, so if you're in my boat, I'd suggest using it as a way to impress upon any Liberal friends just what the numbers mean.

This post has been brought to you by Harry Reid, winning the future for cowboy poets.

What is their supposed merit?  Florid, rambling, overwrought sugary strained metaphor of gushy indulgence.  Is the 'genius' market really that wide open, or is the mangina-moistening myth of The Sienna Superman so politically-correct that it demands praise where none is merited?

I'd like to thank the fucking asswipes who fucked up this fucking economy. No. Really. I want to fucking thank you. Where are you? My two by four thanking stick is waiting ... You know nothing. What you donÂ’t know would fill a book. Jesus, I
feel like itÂ’s when youÂ’re around I need it most. YouÂ’re never
yourself, you never relax. Never. EverythingÂ’s so stiff and dead.

You always have to keep a rein on everything, ever yourself. Oh, you smile sometimes, IÂ’ve even seen you laugh. But thereÂ’s no light in your smile for me,
Wyatt, nothing to keep me warm.

And I get cold, Wyatt. I get so cold.

ok i really cant BELIEVE anyone would want to drink that unless pasteurized. if pasteurized i cant imagine any benefit would be left.
semen is delicate stuff. You kill the little guys with sunlight. UV kills swimmers fast. Then theres the problem of the suspensions they use.
Its really NOT NOT NOT like milking a cow. (take it from the lady with the gallon jug of lube with a pump top.)
then theres the whole um  multipurpose issue of the urerthra and um the variability of flavor.
the fact that there really isnt a whole lot you get at a time from your "producer" I mean what a couple skimpy shots a load...?

and um their thingie is hard to keep really really clean. Horsie smegma is sorta agressive especially if he gets out to exercise and sweats alot. Yeah we use filters but they arent 100% and to ship it for normal purposes we use an extender with antibiotic in it...

ok and if you cant find something to flame me for in this then i am disappointed in you all.

252 I stole it but its science...

DJ says:
March 10, 2011 at 10:48 am

IÂ’m not worried in the least about sea level rise, because I know it canÂ’t happen. I have a theory which my computer model has proven correct (even though I have no empirical evidence at all). I call it

The Hydraulic Theory.

It says simply that as the sea level rises, it pushes on the land masses much like squeezing a pimple, forcing them up from increasing pressures. We know that land is in fact malleable, and can flow in a plastic manner under certain conditions. The earthÂ’s oceans account for more mass than exposed land, so if the water pressure is increased by a rising sea level, then the exposed land will be forced to go where there is the least resistance. Up.

This theory is beyond reproach, and I think I read it in a peer reviewed Weekly World News journal (after I had the idea first, of course).

I have thought for a long time that whoever dresses Moochelle is either a frenemy or a closet conservative.  No one that liked her would let her out the door in the horrid clothes she usually wears (although, in this particular picture, the actual clothes are much more attractive than usual).

Those shoes look like something a 6 year old girl might wear, if she had a mother cruel enough to buy them for her in the first place.  And maybe it's just the camera angle, but the hand on her purse looks wierd, like she's awkwardly clawing the bag instead of holding it.

257 Sam:
Would IT be a good career change say within the next two years?

It depends, IMO, on what sort of IT you're interested in.

A few thoughts:

General IT stuff -- computer repair and the like? I think that's probably going to be a waste. You can make money at it, but so can the kid down the street, and probably for less and quicker.

I get the feeling the basic programmers are becoming a dime a dozen. My brother switched careers into that a couple years back, and he's making maybe 50k/yr on his 3rd job. He hasn't been fired or laid off, but made moves when opportunities arose.

Which I guess isn't terrible, but it speaks to the market for general coders.

SQL gurus still make bank I believe, but that requires a shitload of training and experience. Or at least it used to.

Networking in general is the place to be I think. Grab some cisco classes.

If you are interested in network security, I definitely foresee a bankable future in that. As networks become both bigger and more complex, the people responsible for securing one's borders against DoS attacks & general hacking become more valuable.

265 I hate to say it, but Democrat Underground has my respect for going after RightHaven. RH decided that shortly after it sued DU...as many others said...that it made a mistake and tried to back out.  DU said "uhmmm not so fast.  What about our demands?" DU  not only wants RH to leave them alone but abandon some of RH's core attack models.  RH now claims that DU is trying to run up legal fees that it will probably win in order to ruin RH.  DU responds "I'm a honey badger".

Speaking of oranged dicked Rumanians, did you ever notice how hunky Tim Allen was in that movie with the washed up hooter queen, whatsherface?  Of course you did, homos.  "Hey Jamie Lee, get out of the way so we can see Tim's Tooltime".  Whoa, just kidding.  Really, I kid because I love.  Any of you guys hardcore gamers?  No, I don't mean youse that can play GTA one handed and fap off on dead hookers.

305 I was on a blog today and one thread was: What did your parents do that would get probably get them arrested today? ... trip down memory lane ... some of them were ... Definitely riding in the front seat on my parent's lap with no seat belts. Also riding in the back bed of a pick up truck. Good times. and in the space between the back window and the seat. I hope there's a statute of limitations on this stuff - Uncle Joe used to put us cousins in the trunk of his car to sneak us into the drive-in movie In the 50's they used to have trucks in the summer that drove through town at night and released a spray for mosquitos. We loved the smell, so all of the kids would go out and run behind the truck and breath in the white fumes. How about Paregoric for upset stomach ! (only to learn it is actually tincture of opium!) Mecuricrome on our scrapes: it is mercury! Speaking of mercury, once a thermometer broke in the floor so we poked at the mercury and it separated into about a thousand little balls. The teacher just wiped it up The same thing happened at a nearby school this week (somehow mercury spilled) and they tented the building for the hazmat team. Remember hanging upside down from jungle gyms and looking at the hard cement? snip ... and my favorite was riding inside the steering wheel when I Dad would drive. The steering wheel were really big and I could fit in it and loved it when we made sharp turns ... hilarious.

ok i will bite-- dolphins seem plausible. but i have heard horror stories concerning a certain hyatt out in the pacific. broken ribs, etc. and some rather beat up and disappointed fetishists.

people interested in horses (beyond my interest in making adorable baby horses, who grow in to ass kicking champions that jump over big things or run long distances) puzzle me. Stallions are big, violent, often stupid. USually super picky about love objects (I have one that got kicked and has feared black mares ever since) and they will squish you by mistake. Their junk is ridiculous.

Now i know my way around the horsie love doll, which we have lovingly named Estelle, and what kind of filters to get, how hot to make the water in the AV, and know that baby bottle liners do great for collecting and are the cheapest to use (attach with duck tape) BUt i really dont get people that see this as anything but an interesting dirty job.

(very dirty on hot days)

My bestest girlie who taught me how to do all this got her cheek crushed by her favorite stallion when he was doing his thing cuz he slipped on the mats and flailed for balance. Taking care of her thu the concussion and two reconstructive maxiofacial surgeries later i really want you to know i kinda see this as dangerous. Not the most fun part of horses.

OK, so Gushka is posting crazy stories about...um...Stallion Semen.

So, let's say someone contracts with you to buy some stallion semen from a certain stud.  Best of his breed.  A real winner.

So the clock is ticking, and you gotta get this sample down to the FedEx office by 12:00 noon in order to make your next day delivery.

But for whatever reason, the stallion just isn't in the mood.  Performance anxiety, questioning his sexuality, his iron horse shoes are pinching him...whatever.

But the retard stallion, the one with the overbite and the sway back and bad gait... he's more than "up" for the challenge.  Chomping at the bit, as it were.

Question:  How would they ever know if you sent them the retard stallion semen instead of the champion stallion semen?

They showed this on Dirty Jobs, but I forget the particulars exactly. I think they bring a mare who's in heat into the stable/room/whatever.

Posted by: Waterhouse at March 10, 2011 11:22 PM (9UhPw)

lolol

thats the politically correct way to show it. the mare in heat is called a Jump mare. what do you do if you dont have a hot mare on hand for a Jump, you might ask?

YOu keep pee from your jump mare in a dasani bottle  (marked clearly with tape and a sharpie "HOT PEE" in your shop fridge.)  Then when you need it you get a paper towel and you sprinkle some on the towel. wave it under his nose. Put some on Estelle the love doll. no. more than that. do it lots, but dont use it all up now!

This will get him in the mood. Unless hes picky...

One only wanted to talk to the old mare mule who never wanted a thing to do with him, while he did his job. One wanted me to take the head off Estelle  and pretend to be a real horse

YES! PUPPETS!

First he sniffs his stinky paper towel, to get in the mood.  Then he struts into the breeding shed and whinnies and i would have to whinny back. My girl would lead him in, and he would talk dirty to Estelle, and as long as i played along with the plastic head like he was the coolest dude ever, and made squealing noises back, he would do his job. No act, no heartfelt attempt to sound like his dreamgirl, and he would refuse to close the deal.

in 110 degree weather in the desert never doubt this was kind of sucky. Oh and collecting the pee? coffee can, Broomstick, Duck tape, some assembly required.  I swear ranch life is NOT glamourous

I promise i shower at least twice a day sometimes more often.

Posted by: ed at March 10, 2011 11:43 PM (Y2WVW)

this is actually a really fair question!

actually its also the story of my life. Alrighty its like this, in previous days this went on QUITE A LOT. so what happens if when you contract for a thoroughbred stallion you have a contract its who they say-- previous tech used a blood type test, now most of the big stud books have gone to DNA tests.

Studs shooting blanks, producing crap but retard boy making good babies, and a very famous case where there was a combination of all three situations at once coming down, have led to rigorous contract enforcement and the third party DNA verification.

the more money at stake the tighter the rules. RAce horses have breeding syndicates who have notary publics on hand with third party witnesses to the deed to make sure you got what you paid to get at X time on X date with contractually obligated stallion.

I actually had a horse many many years ago that was supposed to be one thing, but bore startling resemblance to a different horse on the property. They swore up and down that they bred the right horse to the mare but it was the days before DNA testing. We got screwed. A great horse but an ugly son of a buck.

You think it's bad in Wisconsin, in the first decade of the 20th century, New York was so fucked up that people were not even allowed to vote because of the Irish and later the Italians. As much as I get pissed about the whole Wisconsin bullshit, things have been a whole lot worse in this country.

I'm reminded of Ruddigore:

ROB. And may I ask why you have left your frames?
SIR ROD. It is our duty to see that our successors commit their daily crimes in a
conscientious and workmanlike fashion. It is our duty to remind you that you are
evading the conditions under which you are permitted to exist.
ROB. Really, I donÂ’t know what youÂ’d have. IÂ’ve only been a bad baronet a
week, and IÂ’ve committed a crime punctually every day.
SIR ROD. Let us inquire into this. Monday?
ROB. Monday was a Bank Holiday.
SIR ROD. True. Tuesday?
ROB. On Tuesday I made a false income-tax return.
ALL. Ha! ha!
1ST GHOST. ThatÂ’s nothing.
2ND GHOST. Nothing at all.
3RD GHOST. Everybody does that.
4TH GHOST. ItÂ’s expected of you.
SIR ROD. Wednesday?
ROB. (melodramatically). On Wednesday I forged a will.
SIR ROD. Whose will?
ROB. My own.
SIR ROD. My good sir, you canÂ’t forge your own will!
ROB. CanÂ’t I, though! I like that! I did! Besides, if a man canÂ’t forge his own
will, whose will can he forge?
1ST GHOST. ThereÂ’s something in that.
2ND GHOST. Yes, it seems reasonable.
3RD GHOST. At first sight it does.
4TH GHOST. Fallacy somewhere, I fancy!
ROB. A man can do what he likes with his own!
SIR ROD. I suppose he can.
ROB. Well, then, he can forge his own will, stoopid! On Thursday I shot a fox.
1ST GHOST. Hear, hear!
SIR ROD. ThatÂ’s better. (addressing Ghosts) Pass the fox, I think? (They assent.) Yes, pass the fox. Friday?
ROB. On Friday I forged a cheque.
SIR ROD. Whose cheque?
ROB. Old AdamÂ’s.
SIR ROD. But Old Adam hasnÂ’t a banker.
ROB. I didn’t say I forged his banker – I said I forged his cheque. On Saturday I disinherited my only son.
SIR ROD. But you havenÂ’t got a son.
ROB. No – not yet. I disinherited him in advance, to save time. You see – by this arrangement – he’ll be born ready disinherited.
SIR ROD. I see. But I donÂ’t think you can do that.
ROB. My good sir, if I canÂ’t disinherit my own unborn son, whose unborn son
can I disinherit?
SIR ROD. Humph! These arguments sound very well, but I canÂ’t help thinking
that, if they were reduced to syllogistic form, they wouldn’t hold water. Now quite understand us. We are foggy, but we don’t permit our fogginess to be presumed upon. Unless you undertake to – well, suppose we say, carry off a lady? (addressing Ghosts.) Those who are in favour of his carrying off a lady? (All hold up their hands except a Bishop.) Those of the contrary opinion? (Bishop holds up his hands.) Oh, you’re never satisfied! Yes, unless you undertake to carry off a lady at once – I don’t care what lady – any lady – choose your lady – you perish in inconceivable agonies.
ROB. Carry off a lady? Certainly not, on any account. IÂ’ve the greatest respect
for ladies, and I wouldnÂ’t do anything of the kind for worlds! No, no. IÂ’m not that kind of baronet, I assure you! If thatÂ’s all youÂ’ve got to say, youÂ’d better go back to your frames.
SIR ROD. Very good – then let the agonies commence.

UK Army Dog May Have Died From Broken Heart

....Lance Cpl. Liam Tasker, a dog handler with the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, was killed in a firefight with insurgents in Helmand Province on March 1 as he searched for explosives with Theo, a bomb-sniffing springer spaniel mix. The dog suffered a fatal seizure hours later at a British army base, likely brought about by stress.

Military officials won't go so far as to say Theo died of a broken heart -- but that may not be far from the truth.

442 Hey, since arhooley (my heroine!) brought up Liley and NPR, quick factoid I discovered this evening...

So thereÂ’s another wrinkle that IÂ’m not sure has been brought up yet. My husband said that as of a couple of years ago Homeland Security legislation requires all charities to certify – each year – that they have not accepted funds from groups that promote violence/hatred or from groups that might have terrorist ties. (IÂ’m not getting it verbatim, but itÂ’s been a long day so IÂ’ll have to dig further tomorrow.) Before he signed said form at his last organization he did a two-month audit — thatÂ’s how seriously it is taken. Pleading ignorance is not sufficient. You have to show due diligence.

Now if they didn't take the gift, that's ok (legally, but not ethically), I guess.  But it seems like they were willing to take it - if O'Keefe had come up with proof that they were a real 501(c)(3) charity.  So a nice, thorough audit is in order.

Thanks for the laughs. Good Night!

Yeah, poor Purdue.  I cringed when I read that part of the transcript.

In all honesty, I would be surprised if what she said jibed with Purdue's policies either.  They had a very well run operation there, at least until mid-2009 and had a change in Vice Presidents.  After that, I can't say, but the old group was fine.  And it really is clear Liley didn't know wtf she was talking about.  (NPR still may have been doing things wrong, but they're certainly right that what Liley described as an "anonymous gift" acceptance/handling procedure is not what is done.)

So I think Purdue will get audited, but I think they'll survive it.

Thats too funny, but almost true. I had a blast there, and its funny how there is the town rivalry that goes on. I was in a small pub over there in cashel, and an older dude asked what town I was staying in, which I told him was clonmel. the dude says "well we don't like them over there, if they come in here and start trouble we take them outside". They do know how to have a fucking good time though. I came back to my hotel at night, and there was a wedding going on. there were people in the parking lot leaning on cars, laying in the grass, sitting on the front steps, bottles and glasses laying around, and everybody smoked. I would go back in a heartbeat. Very fun people, and very freindly.

I kid you not. I went into the bar at my hotel, and I saw no less than 6 bud bottles on the tables, and the waitress was walking past me with a tray of a few bottles of bud. They also had bud on tap. I asked the bartender, I said bud?? Are you kidding me? He says oh its very popular. I said for what, washing your windows?

I was in another town and they had bud, coors, and miller draft on tap, along side the Guinness, and another fav over there which I "think" was spelled smithwicks.

No clue where the bud was made that they had, but it had more of a kick.

550 We Sith don't claim to be better *people* that the Jedi, or the Republic. We don't claim that we aren't just another power, like they do.

It's just that our ideas have better consequences that stangnation, oligarchy, the destruction of capital because it's seen as a threat, and the stripping of the best and the brightest from their families and forbidding them to live as human beings.

We ask less and offer more.

Why people keep putting on the beige robes simply puzzles me.

For those of you who haven't encountered the company, they sell cheap industrial equipment that you'll use maybe four times in your life......and it'll break on #3. Stuff like a "left-handed Vega spark-plug replacement jig".

Thing is, I'm the kind of guy with a 200-page "to-do" list, and an unwillingness to commit much time before I've sussed out the project. So I'd be going, "yeah, right here, page 133 -- 'change spark plugs on Vega so that I can get it off my lawn, but only if I can still have a beer'. Wow, what a great find!"

From what I understand, they were devestated by earthquakes and tsunamis so badly on such a regular basis that when concrete and rebar technology advanced to the point of being able to resist these natural disasters, they went all in on it.

So I don't think there will be the horriffic loss of life in Japan like there was in Indonesia in 2004.

Nah.  It's actually not that bad.  Depends on the area, but here we have plenty of zones where basements wouldn't be too hard to dig.  Took some real estate courses a little while back and they went over the soil compositions... from what I remember, there wasn't that much hard rock.

I did like the underwater one.  And the Snow White was nice looking.

Maybe it's the people in some of them that contribute to a feeling of plastic.

Really didn't understand Queen Latifah as Ursula.   Her personality is all wrong for a villain.  She looks too happy!    Maybe it works for the insanity present in Ursula, though.

It's a mixed bag.

I rather agree with this article on them to some degree.

The worst has to be JLo and Mark Antony.  Holy cow stinker.  #2 would be Efron + Hudgens.  She looks like she's going to hurl and he looks like he's never kissed a girl before.

They all do evoke a sense of Disney, though.  The more recent ones work a little better.

I agree!  It's a strange pairing.

Jessica Biel as Pocahontas? They couldn't find someone more Indian looking? And Whoopi as the genie? Really?

Biel - same reason Cruz was picked for Belle?  They seem to not have cast racially - see Alice, too.  (The only one from that pic that made sense was the Mad Hatter)

I guess Whoopi as the genie since she's a comedian like Robin Williams?  I could see her in the role.

I like the Efron and Hudgens one only for the artwork. I love her dress. But they could have chosen different models.

The pose is really awkward - why would she be laying across his lap?
