— CAC Open thread, with another super high tech MSPaint map for you to enjoy for your afternoon.
What if the generic ballot advantage Republicans enjoyed state by state, and the intensity of loathing towards Democrats state by state, were applied to the 2012 race, with President Obama facing his strongest challenger, Generic Republican?
Considering the magnitude of the shifts in the Midwest, New England, South, and even parts of the West, here is roughly how things would pan out:
I know what most of you morons are probably doing right now:
so I will give you your privacy, and enjoy your open thread.
UPDATE- Finally noticed the image looked a bit funny, after sobering up. Cleaned above, but if any part of it is tough to read, I included a very, very big image below the fold to avoid screwing up the AoS mainpage:

I hope so, but we are heading for perilous economic times. It will be hard for either party to maintain a majority AND do what is necessary to fix this mess we are in. The tilt of the Make Believers against Republicans/Conservatives will still make a difference in some elections.
"Generic Republican" doesn't have a family, a voting history, a record of statements or policies. This guy is pretty clean, but unfortunately I don't think he can get enough signatures to get onto any primary ballots. We will have to settle for mere mortals to run against Obumbles, and that is the rub.

The democratically fair thing to do with both California and Texas is to split them up. The Rio Grande Valley needs to be its own state; and there's at least two states locked up in California not counting the deserts which may as well be ceded to Nevada.
Mind you, that gets into the whole discussion on whether there should be an Idaho, what to do with Delaware and Rhode Island, at what point do we decide to declare Maryland "greater DC" and kill it, etc etc.

Maybe the best guarantee for a win is a boring, unchallenging candidate who simply punches all the right buttons.

Montana's been blue at the state level for a long time and typically much less red than other Mountain West states in presidential elections. Clinton won it in '92 and almost did in '96. Bush 41 only won it by five or six points in '88.

I don't even think it's that, because Democrats have always run much stronger in Montana than in the surrounding states, going all the way back to its first presidential election as a state. And that's the best news for the GOP there -- in statewide races it's basically a toss-up between the parties. Montana can easily be swept one way or the other, depending on the national environment. (Conrad Burns found this out in 2006). The state legislature was an exact 50-50 split before the Republicans took it over last November.

I think that is the Romney strategy - not exactly an optimal outcome, and he would have a lot of problems with the party base that "Generic Republican" wouldn't. "Generic Republican" hasn't done and said a lot of dumb things in the past that tend to alienate his base.

I've seen this repeated on many occasions. I have yet to see a set of data that would back it up.
I've dug around and the closest I come to any data that is remotely connected contradicts the hypothesis at least for the 1990s. It doesn't show a direct impact of ex-CA residents, only the pop. influx but it does cut across the complaint.

Romney is making the assumption that the Republican base is sufficiently motivated that they will vote for Rosie O'Donnell's dingleberries over Obama. And he's probably correct. They won't give much money, but he can self-finance a big chunk of the run-up to the general election, so he doesn't care.

All tipsy were the beltway whores,
And the wonk rats blogged away.
"Beware the Weinercock, my lass!
The shriveled bag, the boney ass!
Beware the Billy Bird, and shun
The frumpious Hillysnatch!"
She took her i-phone in her hand:
Long time the tweeting perv she sought--
So rested she by the Tele-v,
And sat awhile in thought.
And as in uffish thought she sat,
The Weinercock, with head of flame,
Came throbbing through the intertoobs,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! and through and through
The twitterverse went snicker-snack!
His career was dead, and with its head
He went hang dogging back.
"And hast thou seen the Weinercock?
Avert thine eyes my squeamish child!
O frickin' day! He's looks so gay!"
He waggles in the wild.
'Twas evening, and the slimy pols
Did spin and garble every phrase;
All tipsy were the beltway whores,
And the wonk rats blogged away.

of the four shades of red (burgundy, red, hot pink, light pink):
I think it's safe to say that we'll have all the burgundy states. That's 180 EV
Of the red states:
We will not take Michigan. Sorry. Obama will campaign there 24 hours a day about how he "saved" the auto industry and they will buy it.
Pennsylvania is always iffy. It ought to be in the lightest of light pink categories just because of the R history with that state (not good). Plus the D senator will be on the ballot and with closely divided states like that, the D's come out in full force to support "their" senator because the other one is already an R. So that one is probably not going to go our way.
But if we take all of the other red states, then that gives the R's 284 EVs. We win.

=======
That's the problem when you want someone with experience. . .they've had to make tough choices over the length of a career.
The only way you're going to find someone who hasn't divided their base in some way or another is if you pick someone with negligible experience, and/or a marked tendency to vote "present" to be your candidate. Then make sure they don't have to answer hard questions about their positions and experience, and they're in.
Personally, I'm happy enough to vote for Romney. Perfect conservative? No.
Good-enough, with enough economic sense to improve the mess we're in? Sure.

Nah, i didn't see your comment but that was the lame thing i was talking about, the bad guy is white and patriotic. It didn't bother me too much because overall it's secondary to the story, but it was definitely lame, it didn't even work because you just can't believe him as the bad guy, it was like making Mr. Rogers the bad guy.

Damn, that Romney rant HAD to have taken chunks out of Mitt's hide. Do believe the lady was a bit exercised.
I suspect he has the funds to go a while, but he'll founder mid-way.

He was a good pick-up, although a no-brainer. I am actually more impressed by Granderson. He radically changed his swing in less than a season and is now a deep threat at 185 pounds!

Branderson has become awesome. He was good in Detroit, but the Yankees have polished his swing and his game. He generates some serious bat speed now.

Curious place for a Monument, too, George.

On a different note, last nite there was a group of us gathered at one of our local ice cream emporium's parking lot, with 9 or 10 classic cars. It turned into a crowd gatherer the owners were tickled about. All informal, but people were stopping and looking like crazy--also buying lots of ice cream. Now I guess they are willing to let it be a regular event, IF it doesn't get out of control.
I haven't heard the sentence "Boy, I had one of those" so much in years. Really tickles me, the appeal those oldies have.

Shouldn't Kristen Powers recognize the girth of the weiner then? I mean she must've seen it at some point, right? She knows which way it points when erect. Well Ms. Powers, is the dick in question that of your ex-boyfriend? Inquiring minds want to know.
Of course then again I'm not sure I could pick the underwear clad penis of an ex-boyfriend out in a line-up.

Florida, the Penis State, has become so infected with liberals it's a miracle Alan West was able to overcome the Joo vote. West's ground game was strong with a trusted cadre of butt thumping patriots, and his opponent Ron Klein, a toe tapping liberal puke was unable to overcome the onslaught of truth when we closed with the enemy with fixed bayonets and a blood curdling battle cry.

I have an idea. Instead of awarding Electoral Votes by state, we award them individually by Congressional district. With the Two for the Senate being awarded to the overall winner in the state.
