Assuming, in the name of sanity, that the wings aren't actually part of the uniform, this is just another team switching to black. Eventually every team in every sport will wear black.
And then some team somewhere will switch to white with pinstripes and look totally AWESOME.
Posted by: Trimegistus at December 30, 2011 07:22 AM (lrvnD)
Okay, I'll be the one to go against CW here. I love them. Love them! Not necessarily these in particular, but the fact that they're trying new things and moving the state of the art of football uniform decoration forward.
The unies most teams wear are precious little different than the same crap we've been sseeing for 40 years.
Have you seen TCU's uniforms? Or the new Georgia Bulldogs? Some of these teams are really mixing shit up. Any why not? Where does it say that you have to look like the 1977 Steelers in order to be cool?
I remember when the Baltimore Ravens debuted. Everyone said their purple uniforms looked awful. But you never hear that anymore. People like the purple and black. And the funnly little birdie on their hats.
Your resistance to the new look, it may continue and it may pass. But you can't fault them for trying something new.

For that matter, where does it say that you have to have "cool" uniforms in order to look cool in football? I would think that the only coolness that matters in football is winning.
To me, these uniforms look childish.

Then, if Arkansas would change their name to Arkansas Flying Pigs, we'd at last get an opportunity to witness the Flying Monkeys going mano-a-mano with the Flying Pigs. As ugly as I think these uniforms are, the bottom line is that these are being used for recruiting purposes. We may not like them, but the Milennials love them (the ones used at Arizona State this year were designed largely based on input from the students). And with Div I football serving as a farm system for the NFL, with education completely irrelevant, schools are having to find other, more superficial ways to appeal to recruits. A lot of these kids are now picking schools based primarily on the uniform design, and they like having choices beyond the basic home/away configuration.
It's sort of like when an Air Force unit activates--the unit typically picks the designation based largely on the respective emblems of the choices offered, not because of the designation's heritage or relevance to the mission.
Sometimes the differences can be pulled off--for example, Florida's old-school uniforms or Colorado's black-helmeted style they used this year. Others, like the Maryland atrocities, are clearly garbage before they even see the field.

Looked at the photographs of the new uniform and agree that the uniform generally seems to be a bad idea. My criticism of the uniform is that the drab gray makes the uniform more useful as camouflage than for sports. I think the players are going to find it difficult to pick fellow team-mates out of the clutter.
I would think brighter, more contrasting colors would be appropriate for a game like football where opposing teams are mixed together in the scrum.

They can't possibly play in uniforms like that. Someone will poke an eye out! How the hell do you tackle that? It will get in the way of plays, the ball will hit the recievers spikes and bounce off. WTF.
They don't even alow things like messages on eye liner or people renaming themselves 'ocho cincho', and now they're dressing up football players like extras from The Chronicles of Riddick.

Well, with Nor Luap at second with 21% and with Romney surging all the way up to 23% in first, it's not a bad place to be.And I just learned something: Iowa's delegates are not pledged until June 6, so that means the upcoming vote is really another straw poll.
But, 28 delegates by proportion, I guess under that poll would mean something like: 6.44 for Romney; 5.8 for the crank; 4.2 for Santorum; 3.92 for Perry; 3.64 for Newt; 1.68 for Bachmann.
Perry is one point away from the 15% threshold--If he beats out the other Rick and gets either those votes or Newts, he wins, beating Romney easily. That's the same for all of the 3rd place people.
Bottom Line: The Not-Romney vote is alive and well and has the best chance of "winning" Iowa.
