Ouch: Wonkette Boycott Starts To Get Serious
— Ace

I wanted to mention this earlier but seriously? They do this for attention. They put up this hateful shit just to get linked. Every leftwing website links them, and then every rightwing site does eventually too.

I don't want to mention them. So do I play their game? Nah.

I know that Nick Denton's sites appeal to some people. I guess Deadpsin is his, right? And isn't there a tech one? And the various girl-oriented gossip blogs?

The point is, a lot of conservatives are basically enabling this by going to those sites. Jezebel, the rest of them. Stop going. Not just to Wonkette, which is a relatively small cog in the Denton blog-machine. All of them. Get your celebrity gossip from some other site, and your tech stuff from wherever. But stop patronizing this man's vile sites. Correction: rori says Denton no longer owns Wonkette; I'm looking into that. He still owns the almost-as-vile Gawker, though, the one that did an article on Christine O'Donnell's bush. rori updates to tell me that POS Ken Layne apparently bought out the site and is now the owner.

Okay, that out of my system: There's a boycott on and Papa John's pizza is withdrawing advertising from Wonkette now.

“I am totally convinced that once a woman has borne a child, she owes that child herself more than anything else in the first five years of his life…

I fear that raising emotion-starved and love-starved children can produce calloused, robotized adults—people who follow the group in straight lines and do exactly what everyone else is doing because someone has said it is time.

I fear for the working mother who is deluded to believe that some kind, patient woman will tend to her child’s emotional needs until she can take over, that someone else will see that her child discovers he is unique, until she can pick him up at the end of the day—when she is perhaps so tired that the best he can hope to hear
is, ‘It’s time to go to bed.’

I fear for the future of the child whose hunger for love and recognition must be satisfied in large groups. I beg mothers to wake up, to experience the precious dawning of their childÂ’s life with him.   Evening comes quickly—but the evening may be too late.”   Rita Chapman of Dallas, Texas, as quoted in Blueprints for Living.

14 I believe that having a mother at home during the teenage-age years is just as vital, and my personal experiences have underscored that belief. My own seventeen-year-old son had a good friend who turned on him and purposefully did everything that he could to make his life miserable. This young man even rallied “followers” to assist him. This mistreatment was unmitigated and lasted for weeks. Every lunch period my son came home from school, alone and down hearted. We ate together, and then I counseled and encouraged him. I did my best to give him the emotional
strength that he needed to face the onslaught that awaited him when he returned that afternoon.  With time, the situation gradually improved as new and better friends entered the picture, but I will always be grateful that I was available, both physically and emotionally, to help my son through a very difficult time in his life.

I have so many illustrative experiences, but IÂ’d like to share just one more. My boys came home from high school one afternoon, dropped off their backpacks and were heading out the door when I stopped them to ask where they were going. I learned that there was going to be a fight at the neighborhood park, and they were going to watch. The first thing that went through my mind was, “What if this were my child involved in the fight?”  Of course, I had to do something — and I did. The fight was stopped before it got started, and the crowd of fifty or sixty young
spectators was dispersed. I was the only mother at the scene, and I kept my distance so that my sons were not implicated, but I was there, nevertheless, to make sure that there would be no altercation.

I must repeat myself, “A mother’s presence is vital.” The age of the child is irrelevant. We need to be actively involved; we must be tuned in, focused on their safety, their growth and their learning, especially during their teenage years. We must be available to correct the outside influences that can undo our work if we are not vigilant.

18 Ace, this is O/T but sad:

MISRATA, Libya — An Oscar-nominated film director and war photographer was killed Wednesday in the besieged city of Misrata while covering battles between rebels and Libyan government forces. Three other Western photographers apparently working alongside him were wounded.

British-born Tim Hetherington, co-director of the documentary "Restrepo" about U.S. soldiers on an outpost in Afghanistan, was killed inside the only rebel-held city in western Libya, said his U.S.-based publicist, Johanna Ramos Boyer. The city has come under weeks of relentless shelling by government troops.

Hetherington tweeted Tuesday: "In besieged Libyan city of Misrata. Indiscriminate shelling by Qaddafi forces. No sign of NATO."

"Tim was in Libya to continue his ongoing multimedia project to highlight humanitarian issues during time of war and conflict," Hetherington's family said in a statement. "He will be forever missed."

Chris Hondros, a New York-based photographer for Getty Images, was seriously wounded and on a respirator at Hikma Hospital. Doctors told The Associated Press that his condition was critical.

62 Wonkette provides one of my more favorite memories of media bias.  The first time I ever heard of Ana Marie Cox was when I read a fawning New York Times profile of her about ten years ago (or whenever it was she became prominent).

The profile presented her as a non-partisan equal opportunity offender (because she made fun of both Republicans AND Democrats!) whilst ignoring entirely that her shtick has always been almost exclusively anti-conservative right from day one.

I know this is no revelation to anyone here, but I still enjoy saying it: the media is full of shit.

64 Layne offers up some 'apology' *snort*

I have four kids myself and I wouldn't want them mocked on the Internet by a bunch of cretins on the Internet. And that's just one reason why I wouldn't parade my children around in the media. What kind of mother does that?

In any case, Jack has been admonished and put on night probation until further notice. Anything involving Palin, I want to make it extra clear that *Palin* is the problem with America. Not her kids. Not her little kid, anyway. The older ones seem to be on their own path and you can't really blame Sarah for it, although she certainly encourages the sleaziest possible behavior from her grown children, which is hardly a very "family values" thing to do. But as far as Jack's future, a few months on the night shift  cleaning up the furious, ALLCAPS unmoderated Wonkette comments, without pay, should teach him a thing or two about writing stuff that confuses the target. Trig is cool with us. Sarah Palin, on the other hand, is a grave danger to America.

72 I see that the Left is now trotting out some audiotape of Limbaugh doing a skit in which he "impersonates" Malia Obama pestering her father about the BP oil spill.

But here's the thing:

1.  It's not an attack on Malia.  It's an attack on Obama.

2.  They seem to be up in arms about Limbaugh's "impersonation," but it's not an impersonation.  It's Limbaugh doing the same generic kid voice that he's been using to portray children since before the Obama girls were even born!

76 I have always considered Wonkette's Swiftian satire to be the gold standard in cutting-edge contemporary humor. Lenny Bruce and George Carlin may no longer be with us, but certainly they live on in spirit through Wonkette's online franchise. I understand the sensitivity of special needs parents. But the deeper point of the post was that is never acceptable to exploit them. The use of humor to underscore this point does not constitute the mocking of the disabled. To the contrary, it is a sword against their exploitation. Conservatives and liberals alike can join in condemning the use of a child as a political prop. Especially that brain-dead, slant-eyed incestuous spawn of the snowbilly grifter.

84 A novelist would have to work pretty fuckin hard and long into the night to create characters as vile as the American Pinkos.

I hate them. Unapologetic, unsympathetic, non-pc outright straight-up no chaser hate me some muthafuckin leftard pinkos.

Won't associate with them, won't patronize their businesses, will not let them around my kid or teach my kid.

They are mental defectives and zealots as loony as any head-chopping Taliban.

The quasi-humans responsible for that vile skidmark of a web story, site, and graphic are non-salvageable, diseased souls.

It truly does make me weak enough to pray for an angry God and not a forgiving one.

85 You want gossip, drop in on Agent Bedhead. She's cute as hell and smart to boot. It's been a while, but when I met her, she was in law school. She is also a contributor at Pajiba which, if you haven't been there, is far and away the best site for reviews of movies and television: Very biting, very clever.

If AG is good enough for John Malkovich, it's good enough for you morons.

86 Hewitt is talkig this up right now.  Swell.  More traffic for Wonkette, I suspect.

Posted by: Wyatt Earp at April 20, 2011 04:15 PM (zgZzy)

87 Wait, so is ordering from Papa John's good or not?  Honestly, Wonkette never seemed even slightly attractive.  On any level.  It was just spewing out Dem talking points, so it was easy to ignore.

Posted by: BeckoningChasm at April 20, 2011 04:30 PM (081kp)

88 Adobe, Welch's and Sit and Sleep all have major ads on Wonkette's site.  They need to know what their advertising is supporting and what they are being tied to.  Let them know

I've contacted Bob Evans, General Mills, Adobe, Yoplait and AT&T.

Get on it, Morons.

91 Don't look for my comment to show up over there. Yes! I did drop by there. Bite me.

Joe, you fuckwit. You are going to lecture conservatives about morals? You are going to call others "monsters"?!

Given your druthers, you and your kind would never have had the opportunity to poke fun at the little "retarded" boy, as you would surely have had him ripped from the womb the moment his disability was discovered.

The ability of those such as yourself to point the finger at others in defense of your own despicable actions never ceases to amaze me. It should, but it doesn't. And that's sad.

Just plain sad.

As are you.

I wanted to mention this earlier but seriously? They do this for attention. They put up this hateful shit just to get linked. Every leftwing website links them, and then every rightwing site does eventually too.

Attention? Nah. They do it because they hate us. As simple as that. Why does Hollywood bash Christians and conservatives relentlessly when there are tons of better targets? Is it because we won't be decapitating them? No. There's no arguing it. It's because they hate us. Pure.

I love their cinnamon pie. I've actually ordered pizza before just so they'd deliver the dessert.

94 Bob Evans has always struck me as kind of a down-home type of family restaurant. This could be bad for them if they DON'T do something.

Posted by: Clueless at April 20, 2011 04:50 PM (piMMO)

95 The Wonkette author of that Trig article, Jack Stuef, just got domain-squatted at JackStuef.com Enjoy your infamy, douche.

Posted by: Cuffy Meigs at April 20, 2011 04:52 PM (k5CvA)

96 Just the fact that Palin chose not to abort her Down's syndrome child makes him a "political prop" in the eyes of the left. Maybe a little guilt there.

Posted by: Barb the Evil Genius at April 20, 2011 05:10 PM (MyByM)

97 My problem with the post was that they went after Trig and made vile comments relative to him and his birth.  It's expected that they are going to post shit about Sarah.  That's been going on since the second she was named as McCain's VP candidate, but Trig is an innocent child.  It's supposed to be okay to post shit about him, I was told in self-righteous tweets, because "he's not really Sarah's baby" (followed by posting of the same link and audio as proof) "Sarah just uses him for a prop and to make $$" (Yes, I don't know how many times I've seen people stuff money into Trig's carrier or stroller when she goes somewhere with him), and furthermore, "He's not really Sarah's baby."

Kids should be off limits.  Period.

Would be interesting to see the reaction should somebody post something vile about a lefty's kid on a blog like, say, Obama's 2 girls.

101 I'm disappointd to find that Jones New York advertises there. Their website frequently features real women instead of waifs so the belittling of a child is not likey to go over well with them either.

They have a phone number for placing orders as well as a 'contact us' link: http://www.jonesgroupinc.com/contacts

Posted by: Clueless at April 20, 2011 05:38 PM (piMMO)

102 Ok, mostly a lurker. Is KayinMaine for real?

Posted by: Lilredhen at April 20, 2011 05:42 PM (SI5rO)

103 It's not a bad thing to give those site hits...so what if their traffic increases temporarily? Since their advertisers are pulling their money out of the site, lots of hits won't make a damn bit of difference. On  the other hand, I went to Wonkette to see for myself, note the advertisers who remain, and make sure they know I will not be supporting them. Wonkette just began its slow death. Site traffic will not save it.

104 Kay in Maine is a real psycho presence on the net, but I think the above comment is a sock.

Posted by: Barb the Evil Genius at April 20, 2011 05:45 PM (MyByM)

105 Lilredhen: Unfortunately, yes. However, I believe someone is spoofing her with that post. I don't think her spelling is that bad though she is definitely a nasty lefty crotch rot type of gal.

Posted by: Bloody Mary at April 20, 2011 05:47 PM (dDbkT)

106 The above is a sock.  The misspellings were a good imitation but every KayInMaine post almost always contains some derivation of the word "fascist" and *spit*.  Plus using apostrophes for possessive cases is much too literate for that dumb bint.

112 I am a regular Kotaku (Gawker's video game blog) visitor, and to be honest, WE don't even like Jezebel. We troll it fiercely, although it's common knowledge that stepping out of line and having a diverging opinion from the rest of the Jezbians will result in vitriol of the highest caliber. Honestly, I didn't even know Wonkette existed before this episode. Now I do. No such thing as bad publicity where Nick Denton is concerned. In any case, Wonkette is one of the sites that was purchased or cut off from the network (Fleshbot, Consumerist, etc)

While they do have right wing-bashing articles on Gawker main (which has the most racist, awful commenters I've seen outside of firedoglake), they've mostly learned their lesson from the Christine O'Donnell hack job they posted last year, which had many rabid left-wingers coming out in droves to defend her, knowing full-well that the article actually made showed her adhering to her morals. Also, the comments on that article were brilliant like sunlight diffused through the Hope Diamond.

I'd had a vaguely good impression of Louis C.K. based on a couple of his bits I'd come across before a few seconds ago when I heard him at the Wonkett piece laughing about Sarah Palin's "disgusting retard making c*nt".  Jeezus.

115 Halodoc and Andycanuck, love it!!!!!

Saw the turdeater's so-called apology which is at the top of the offending post when you go to the site now, which has been scrubbed of the original comments.  I wish bad things for that @sshole, BAD THINGS!  Don't want to hear any more lectures on civility from the left after a post like that.

Posted by: Theresa D at April 20, 2011 08:22 PM (2hQbY)

116 There's no email address/contact link at the Jones New York site. Will call in the morning.

Posted by: Rose at April 20, 2011 08:24 PM (PuOaj)

117 Not just the post, Theresa, the comments EARLIER were unlike anything anyone should ever see or say. And that guy's apology is no apology - it's hard to believe people like that exist.

Honestly, I don't subscribe to the concept of taste in humour, I hate jerks (always lefties) who whine about "tone", I have no particular hang ups about  the word "retarded", and on my worse days I hate that narcissist Barry Obama and his nasty, bitter, greedy, stupid wife like poison.  But if one of their girls had Down's Syndrome it would never cross my mind to say or think something like that.

120 I gather a number of their advertisers have quit Wonkette now.  It should also be noted that Jack Stuef (the fellow that wrote the piece of trash in question) also works at "The Onion".  It may be interesting to drop them and their advertisers a note.

Papa John's & Huggies (congratulating them)

General Mills

I've also noticed Jones New York and Clarks advertising there.   Any others I've missed?

BTW - I like how someone's redirecting JackSteuf.com to www.ndss.org
