You would think that when Ayatollah's and others not so friendly to the US begin to publicly support your cause, you just might be on the wrong side. Just sayin'. Some time ago, I was stationed in Sicily and lived right at the base of Mt. Etna and I admit, it was pretty damn cool to be outside grillin' a steak, drinkin' a beer and watch the lava flow down and see some pretty impressive fireworks belchin' out the top. But then the winds would shift and the damn ash cloud would rain down inches of ash every day for weeks on end. That sucked. Globalization means that we need to offer businesses a competitive environment. Endless regulations, unaccountable bureaucrats, and an educational system stridently opposed to preparing its students for real jobs is not going to attract business.
And to make matters worse, importing a helot class from Mexico has devastated the lower middle class. Local low skill and no skill labor now has to compete with people who will be returning to a country with a cost of living a fraction of ours.
Take an axe to the federal register, make non-DOD government employees a rarity, privatize the school system, and get series about illegal immigration and you'll make an immediate, positive impact on the life of the average American...

Ohai. Eye doctor visit today. I got the contact lens / patch off. Next Friday, progress to be reviewed again. The eyesight in the right eye is still practically blind (not "literally", but certainly "practically"). Its surface is healing, at least.
Work is going pretty well. The weather here is top-notch. And I'm enjoying "Fire Upon The Deep" by Vernor Vinge. Maybe we can call #ows the "straumli perverts" . . .

This is why Batman was the only comic book I ever read as a kid. Seemed to me that Supermen and X-Men, walking (or flying) deus ex machina heroes who were so ridiculously powerful in concept it was impossible to build believable stories around them, were a dime a dozen. Universally, they were either born with superpowers or acquired them by accident, so it was hard to have much respect for them.
Batman was a guy who earned every damn muscle in his body and stayed alive only through the power of his intellect and wits. He remained effective only through constant and rigorous application of the mind and exercise of the body, just like anybody else. He was a hero who was at least theoretically possible in the real world, and the best Batman stories were the stuff of classic crime pulp.

Every day 4:30 pm sharp over the loudspeakers ( I live on AF base) they play retreat and then the National Anthem. There is a play ground across from our porch and there were 4 girls which I think were between 8 and 10, that I have never seen before. The minute the Anthem came on they stopped stood up, placed their hands on their hearts and started singing the Anthem. You can imagine I had a lot of dust in my eyes.

That brings back fond memories ...I'm too bashful to have it professionally done, so Thor decided to get me a DIY kit. He very graciously volunteered to do it for me. The movie doesn't do well at explaining Humperdink's reason for what he does. It expects its audience to fill that in.
It has to be read in the context of the late 1960s / early 1970s. Humperdink is Nixon. As filmed, in the later 1980s, he's Reagan / Bush Sr.

Batman's problem though is that's he's too good. Everything he does is effortless, from solving crimes to getting laid, he has no problems. But that's DC in general, superheroes without any real character.
The X-Men (Marvel in general) at least had issues. The chick who couldn't be touched just wanted to get laid, baldy wanted to walk, Sniktbub wanted more beer and pussy...well, you get the idea. Superheroes with character.

Superman was a character I always figured was good for a handful of stories at best. I love the early Supe comics from the '30s, because his powers were more limited and he was a really fun, wisecracking character who enjoyed fucking with people.
But he became repetitive really fast, and the more ridiculously powerful he got the less interesting he was.

I grew up in the sixties.. had first copies of Fantastic Four and Spider-man.. (who knew they would be worth something???)
But Batman was always my favorite. No superpowers.. just athletics and impossible gymnastics and techno crap.
Saturdays was comics day for me.. Whatever money I made on paper routes, etc. was all spent on Saturday. a long walk to the comic store.. and then a whole afternoon lounging on an old crappy easy chair in the basement with a 25 cent bag of cheetohs or fritos and a coke.. it was heaven.

When the doctor did it it was like 225...something like that...but it was after work and when I got home I had a small slice of cheesecake (plain cheesecake from a box, Gushka, nothing special).

Much of the drama of Batman comes from his own obsessive perfectionism, and the restrictions he places upon his methods in an attempt to live within a personal moral code. Nah, I don't think so. OWS varies between 500 and a couple of thousand. Here in Seattle it varies between 10 and 400. I grew up in the 60's, went to war in 70. If there was going to be a revolution it was then. Demonstrations then varied between 50,000 and 500,000 or more. We had the SDS, SLS, Black Panthers, Weathermen and a few others I am forgetting trying to turn that energy into a revolution. They failed.

My wife and I went to the movies to watch Fatal Attraction. It was a hot movie at the time featuring Meryl Streep and Michael Douglas. Personally, neither of them did much for me. I don't like to watch murder / slasher type movies. They make me tense and bug me so I told my wife enjoy the movie, I'm watching something else. I walked down the hall and watched The Princess Bride. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though Rob Reiner is a douch. I have since watched it with my children and grand children.

As a cat owner, I absolutely agree on both counts. Two cats are no more difficult than one cat to care for and you can find them for free on Craigslist any day of the week. If you can find siblings, all the better.

Whoops, missed it. No, it wasn't the fasting test.
When I was in the hospital with a kidney stone in May, they took a blood test and said my blood sugar was really high, and the thing is I hadn't actually eaten that day (woke up from the pain). So, basically, if not diabetic, pre-diabetic like Gushie said.
In other words, shit's fooked. It's probably worth testing for it, I suppose.

Infection or other stresses on the body can cause falsely elevated glucose levels, whether eating or not. Basically, one test is useless for anything except raising suspicion for further testing.

Well there are a shitload of subdivisions in metal, and there are a shitload of bands in each group. Mainstream traditional metal, black metal, power metal, death metal, speed metal (thrash), etc Thats why I asked what mood you are in, because its a wide field.
Manowar and hammerfall are what I call Conan metal, a definite lean towards ancient land battle stuff that ranges from the BC period to the medieval period. Manowar is a little over the top and is probably the best at it. Listen to that shit long enough and you'll be imagining over running the OWS with armored horses. lol
Helloween is power metal, power metal is usually very big sounding and fast.
Anthrax is a good metal/thrash band.
Dio is kind of a dungeons and dragons metal.

yeah I love the open world thing. thats why I liked morrowind and oblivion, and also the fallout series. The thing that got me a little pissed about Rage was that it wasn't really open world, there was not much to explore outside of the mission locations, and the damn game was over before I knew it.

Fallout was the game for flame throwers. There were a few killer ones in that game. the flamer, and the incinerator come to mind. Cooked up the ghouls nice.

Surprisingly I haven't had a glitch on fallout new vegas, and that was supposed to have some glitches. I did have one spot were the travel companion stopped following me, so i had to to some thing to reset her. Bethesda is like glitch central. I got hit with that A bomb glitch in oblivion. that was nasty, and game ending. It hit me at about 1200 hours into the game, but has been known to hit as early as 400. Doors just stop opening, fire type effects hang, so if you get hot with a spell you are stuck i a green fog for hours, or flame arrows never burn out, and all torch or candle flames are dead still. It hit me at around 1200 hours, so I went back to a much earlier save at a point right before closing the great gate and just continued on again.

Ah, layaway. Haven't seen that since I worked retail at Fred Meyer in the late 80's. And yeah, it sucked then too.
I also heard that they are going to allow you to write your name and dollar amounts on pieces of paper instead of giving cash or a debit/credit card. Anyone heard of this? Sounds pretty backwards.

yeah it sucked. There was a cure for the PC version, but not for Xbox. I had pretty much exploited and aqueeeeezed every thing out of the game it could give by the time it happened. I owned a house in every city and had the suckers PACKED with loot. I mean packed. I literally had 1000's of weapons.

i guess thats seems weird to me too, let me explain why:
i have never had a normal family.
because of illness i never had a normal childhood.
i have never had a pregnancy that resulted in a live baby.
my mom never loved me. My bio dad was a monster my stepdad thought i was... something to get out of the house.
Never had a normal husband wife relationship till i was 35. When it got weird with the ex it was unspeakable.
my foster kid was handicapped. I got her when she was 13 so i have never had a little child or a normal child. I do not hold babies. i dont go to baby showers.
i have never scuba dived or Skiied nor do i wish to. I have watched very few scary movies. I dont know if you have noted this but i do not enjoy sports.
i do however try very hard to relate to people after many years of avoiding them. perhaps i try overly hard. I have traveled extensively. I was dragged through most of it.

Debate performances are evaluated on a relative basis. If it was some structural issue like the "format" then one would expect all the candidates to do poorly. Perry is just not good at debates and it shows.

In the debate format there isn't time to give more than talking point answers, or sound bite answers. Look up the Kudlow interview Perry did a couple of days ago. (I think there was a link in the sidebar.) He did much better when he could develop an answer.
Vic, Special Report has something called Center Seat where they have a candidate on with the panel. Bachmann was on last week and last night was an ex-governor whose name escapes me until I have more coffee. (He's polling so low he doesn't qualify for the debates, so he's a no-hoper.) The point is the format, which is miles ahead to the debate format.Both times they've gone to the online show when the on-air time is up. Worth watching for the discussion even if the guest isn't a candidate you'd seriously consider.

If Perry hasn't included Tea Party "lower taxes" in his yet to be revealed platform as he's been touting all this time, there'd be reason to scoff.
One requirement of economic stability, ESPECIALLY during a recession/depression, is knowledge that taxes will NOT INCREASE.
Cain's 999 tax promise is based on "hope" as a method. It is not already tax law and requires Congress to make it so before it is. To date, Cain has no required Congressional block vote to back his plan, required prerequisite. The other two strikes against Cain's 999 are that the rates will inevitably inflate, and worse yet, Americans will be burdened with a NEW FEDERAL SALES TAX.
Until Cain makes public record of his private study, it's not completely verifiable.
Feasibly, 999 could provide all the tax funds for Congressional Spending. THAT'S A PROBLEM so far as the Tea Party agenda is concerned. Most of our federal government today consists of constitutionally abusive federal authoritarian bureaucratic programs and policies which happen to be very expensive. Furthermore, this Congress and this Administration have pirated Constitutional Governance with a "special congress" quorum of the 12 and two death panels, one overseeing ObamaCare eugenics, and "reset" the other within the Cabinet's inner sanctum, targeting heads of state, politically undesirable US citizens, and whoever else gets in the way for literal assassination at the potus' command. Those are simply two examples from the many corruptions that deeply offend conservative Americans who are on the DHS Janet Napolitano list targeting constitutional adherents. Why should voters endorse a new federal sales tax to fund the mounting abuses from unconstitutional federal bloat?
What the RNC, Republican Leadership and political candidates need is an early season convention to build the big tent platform that voters have been mandating: the Tea Party agenda for smaller government, cut spending and cut taxes. As is, we're stuck with the status quo, RNC Republican Leadership and political candidates deemed electable by those holding the party purse strings who want the abuses of power and who promote the augmentation of abuses of power for themselves. And the voters are not "qualified" to be heard by the elitists who are above it all, who are not bound by the laws they themselves impose upon the voters. No candidate is the messiah. And if gleaning the best from each candidate's agenda is what would work functionally with the necessary congressional votes to enact, then it's Newt.
Those who say that the campaign field needs immediate clearing are wrong, imo. Right now, the field needs to ripen. It takes exposure and time to analyze every program and subsequent outcomes. Refuse to accept ANYTHING at face value, especially advertisements. My gripe is that early voting states rape the rest of us.

Vic #1080 I didn't forget, nor did I question your timing. But face it, if Perry were magnificent in debate, you'd be crowing. He's carrying his own baggage, just like every other candidate.
As potus, see Perry enabling US tax funded globalist banking bail-outs and the bail-out of the EU and Euro. Where in the Bilderberg Group would you find otherwise? Perry already functions promoting the NAFTA no-borders corporatism curtailing "American" business penalized with regulations/fees, enabling globalist industry that includes drug and human smuggling and empowerment of cartels and massive VIOLENT crime.
There's an image that helps clarify the effective ability of a world leader given face to face confrontational-diplomatic dialog with Putin and other Communists. Sure, Perry fans will laud Quickdraw McDraw as if that's realistically desirable, let alone what's best for American international relations. Despite the pedantic desire to annihilate opponents, "Anything But Reset" of itself doesn't qualify Go Perry! any more than it qualifies Santorum's self endorsement. "I'll go to war with China!"
