Ah yes, the evolution of a Liberal. Scary.
Evenin' all. It's time for the ONT.

This was a pretty good read last night. Chicks With Guns.
Pop quiz: Name one accessory that grandmothers, moms, girls, wealthy socialites, middle-class females and low-income women might be likely to own — and cherish — all across America. If you answered “a gun,” you’d be correct.
Based on polling research and gun-sale statistics, an estimated 15 million to 20 million women in the United States own their own firearms.
I can't believe Pamela (picture #7 in the slideshow) has a .454 Casull. That's some heavy duty firepower there. Jersey Girls Don't Pump Gas
The stoopid is strong with these ladies. I hated NOT being able to pump my own gas when I passed through Oregon and New Jersey. In Sicily, they'd rip you off if you weren't paying attention. They'd pretend to be filling up your tank when they were actually filling up a container.
Redneck Repairs

Don't try some of these at home. Ah, who am I kidding? I guarantee you we all have done something like these. Here are 25 Example Of Redneck Ingenuity.
The Worst Products For Men
There are some strange products out there for men. I had no idea that there was even a market for a chest hair toupee. Seriously. WTF? I guess it's better than going the Eric Cartman route as he did with Scott Tenorman's pubes to make a beard. Here are The 10 Worst Products For Men. Scary.
While some men shave or laser their chest to achieve a smooth, hairless look, other, naturally smooth chested men, pine for a manly carpet of chair. For these men, the chest hair toupee was invented. Available in black, brown, or gray, these chest pieces are made of real human hair. How do you even apply this thing? Glue? Tape? At any rate it is perfect for its target audience: middle-age men who like to wear halfway unbuttoned Hawaiian shirts and yet are lacking the tuft of hair sticking out that is necessary to complement their gold chain necklaces.
The Good, The Bad, And Ugly
This came out a few years ago but it's still pretty cool. It is a remix of Ennio Morricone's The Ectasy Of Gold.
Not A Good First Date
Ouch. Man Shoots Self On First-Date. Somebody was playin' with their gun in the car when they should've been playin' around with their date. That would've ended with a happy ending I'm sure.
A-10 Doin' What It Does Best
Pretty riveting video from an A-10 supporting some US troops on the ground in what sounds like a very heavy firefight.

ItÂ’s common to be annoyed about people who are famous who donÂ’t deserve to be. TheyÂ’re not hard to find, are they, Tori S.?
ItÂ’s less common to be annoyed about finding that people whom you regard as having earned their fame, arenÂ’t as well-known as you thought and assumed they were.
Which is my way of introducing an article in a Brit paper that refers to the director of the upcoming Avengers movie, which I will see in the theater no matter what any reviewer says, as “Joss Wheldon.”
Do the Brits not know about Buffy and Angel and Firefly? Do they unaccountably fail to appreciate the majesty that is Joss WhedonÂ’s oevre?

Charlotte police said the couple returned to the man's car after eating Tuesday at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on Fairview Road and the man's gun, which was in the car, somehow went off and shot the man, The Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday.
I've heard about figuratively shooting yourself in the foot on a first date, but this ridiculous! I doubt the gun "went off" on its own. Given that women covet guns, as per the Chicks with Guns story, the fool was probably waiving his piece around in a vain attempt to impress his date when he accidentally pulled the trigger.
Too bad the wound wasn't higher on his leg, thus preventing transfer of his poor gun safety techniques to the next generation. And if I was his date, he wouldn't be getting another one after that lame stunt.

Oh, and DD#1 is on temporary assignment up in the NE; lives in Philly, but works in NJ. I seem to recall her saying that she isn't ALLOWED to pump her own gas at the gas stations in NJ (I could be mistaken, but I think that's what she said.....).
It was quite a shock for a Texas gal; my bet is that the station operators have it in state regulations so that they can charge more to their customers....

This stupid law was passed as a jobs bill. Meaning that thousands, nay MILLIONS of jobs would be created by making the gas stations hire gas pumpers.

A former Costa Mesa resident who killed her husband and cooked and ate parts of his body nearly 20 years ago is scheduled to appear before a parole board. Omaima Aree Nelson is seeking early release from her sentence of 27 years to life for murdering William E. Nelson, 56, over Thanksgiving weekend in 1991.
"This is probably one of the most egregious mutilations we've ever had," Senior Deputy Dist. Atty. Randy Pawloski, who prosecuted the case, told the Daily Pilot. "It is one of the most gruesome and notorious crimes ever committed in Orange County."
The hearing for Nelson, an Egyptian model who immigrated to the U.S. in 1986, is scheduled for Wednesday at Chowchilla State Prison in Central California, where she's incarcerated.
Nelson was in her 20s when she killed her husband three decades her senior and dismembered and cooked parts of his body in their Costa Mesa apartment. The couple had been married about a month.

Too much simplification is bad. It's about balance - you want enough information to get your audience to speed so that they realize and understand the point and significance of your work, but not so much that you go off on unneeded tangents. Y-not, who has a prodigious amount of experience reading though primary publications, grants, and proposals, mentioned a while ago that there is a tenancy of younger scientists to over-state their work and make it too "wordy".

Guy a mile away died the other day; he learned wrenching like that, and owned his own station when he was 20, in 1967. Spent 40 years just wallowing in the car life, hundreds of friends, nice car collection, solid citizen, retired before he was 60. Luck of the draw, he died young.
Now, if you think you want to be a mechanic, you have to do well enough in high school to get into a tech program at CC, and then you're a wage-slave to Mr. Goodwrench, running codes. That' what we lost when we started pumping our own gas.
Not my mechanic, though. He runs a hot-rod shop with his dad. High school seriously interfered with his education, so he quit. Until my kid got into the advanced part of computer engineering, my mechanic was the best practical programmer I knew. As long as internal combustion stays legal, he has a career. He does have trouble finding reliable employees, though. The tech-school guys can't cut it, and kids from the neighborhood are only educable until they discover the pipe. Where do they get on the pipe? At school, naturally. He's a little bitter about that.

I have ridden flesh and blood ones, but I do prefer the mechanical ones. No, not the ones you feed with quarters outside of the Wal-Mart, wise-ass (cause I know somebody would have smarted off).

don't they turn around and come back, about 80 feet off the deck, and give me a wing waggle, I almost wet myself it was so cool.
I got a wiggle once going about 110 MPH down SC 341, which is not far from Shaw AFB, they buzzed me and I guess realized how fast I as going, I flashed my lights and they came back around even lower.
Scared the shit out of me, but like you said sooo cool. Glad they are on our side.

Things have changed, I went to Johnson Motors Outboard Motor School in Waukegan, Ill when I was 14 and became a certified mechanic. Worked summers an weekends during school working on outboards. Drove my dads tractor to work because it was legal to drive without a license.

One of the best cars I ever owned was an 82 Dodge Rampage (shut up). I paid 50 bucks for it because the Dodge mechanics couldn't diagnose a bad pick-up coil. It didn't have an OBD-II port, you see, so the computer couldn't run a diagnostic on it and tell them what was wrong with it.
I figured it out with a multimeter. My grand-daddy was a heavy equipment Seabee in Dubya Dubya Eye Eye and taught my dad everything. Then he decided he didn't want his kids to be Sailors or mechanics, so my uncle grew up not knowing how to change his own oil.
I'm sure I was a great disappointment to my grand-daddy, God rest his soul.

That right there. Good mechanics are getting so rare these days. I've got these guys . . . oddly enough, they are in Beverly Hills where the grandfather set up shop in 1929 (they own the building), and still a family operation. They are amazing and I count them as a blessing in my life.
Posted by: Peaches at September 29, 2011 07:00 PM (/ybwc)
Yeah, but back then if you knew how to rebuild a carburetor, set the distributor points and change a starter, you were a mechanic. Now with everything computerized and a million sensors it's a bit more difficult to pick things up on the fly.

Too much simplification is bad. It's about balance - you want enough information to get your audience to speed so that they realize and understand the point and significance of your work, but not so much that you go off on unneeded tangents.

So one day in '82 I was using dad's antique impulse-power timing light (ran off the spark plug jolt--it was antique when he got it) to set my racing Alfa; the battery was charging hard, a spark struck off the lead wire, and the sumbitch blew up in my face. Worst part, a little piece of battery case plastic flew under the fuel injector drive belt and slipped one, just one, cog. After I got my vision back, I couldn't get the car to start for the longest time.
I've remained a little leery of hydrogen fuel. It does burn clean, though.

I am pleased to announce that the word (?) SCoaMF was used for the first time in a comment at the Seattle Times tonight. It was at this story: http://tinyurl.com/68c8h6e And I said this:
Ha, ha, ha. All of you very silly people who thought Congress was going to rescue you with their banking and finance reform law, guess what? The bank bases its business on making a certain amount of money. Congress said they could no longer charge Fee A, which was part of their business plan. Therefore the banks will now charge Fee B. This was absolutely inevitable and I take a great deal of pleasure in telling foolish progressive "I told you so."
This was completely and absolutely inevitable. Congress doesn't understand a single solitary thing about economics or business - this is what comes from letting lawyers make the rules. They have no clue about how business works and Congresscritters mostly think that all charges made by business are purely arbitrary and capricious.
Don't blame BofA for this. This extra fee was brought to you by the Congress of the United States of America and the SCoaMF who signed the bill into law.
So far, I don't think anyone has looked it up because no one's head has appeared to explode but I am nevertheless proud to have played a tiny role in spreading the word.
You may now resume regular programming as I have to go to bed.

Just wondering...
Andrew Breitbart is cool and all. But...
How do you think ace feels about Andrew trying to poach his commenters?
Personally, I think ace appreciates the visit and the attention, but is kinda leery of loosing commenters.
But, as someone upstream pointed out, if Andrew really wanted a bunch of morons hanging arround, he'd have to open up / remove his comment registration system.

Dear Mr. Breitbart,
Did you receive my c.v. yet?
I comment here regularly and at times I use compound sentence structure with a variant of topical urban like references; the urban references have legitimized my blog cred.
Just last week I incorporated the term "G" when referencing one of the co-bloggers here. I said something to the effect like, "hey G, that was fly."
I look forward to joining your commenter team.
Sincerely,
Journolist

Ace is so far just fielding offers from outside firms and the comment 'open blog' format while being discussed will remain in tact however, there is some discussion by one of the lawyers that comments should be limited to no more than 4 metro cycles per impression or 4 MCPI or 13 characters per week per comment.
There has been some additional discussion of creating a blog/character bank where character limits could be traded and carried over each quarter.
All inquiries should be limited to 13 characters and e-mailed.

Racial humor, done well, is some of the best.
But it is real tough to keep it from becoming just simply offensive to the race being targeted.

Racial humor, done well, is some of the best.
But it is real tough to keep it from becoming just simply offensive to the race being targeted.
A movie that had good racial humor was "Undercover Brother".
Laughed my ass off at it, even when it was poking fun at me and my kind.
Posted by: ed at September 30, 2011 12:42 AM (Y2WVW)
Racial humor is fine; outright racism is not. I'm inclined to give the benefit of a doubt quite some ways, depending on facts and circumstances......but some signs are pretty distinct.
In the case I commented on, you have some dialect and a name.....but it would really only be understood by someone who took the time to watch the series, and was therefore unlikely to be full of unreasoning hatred.
On the flip side, I've seen someone casually comment about his sister dating someone in a way that was incredibly repulsive.

You have no idea how much worse the world would be if we didn't think with our dicks.
The caveman who invented fire? Know what his first thought was? "This is so totally getting me laid."
Think Columbus wasn't thinking with his dick when he set off and accidentally discovered America? Hell yes he was- he wanted to be rich, a motivation driven primarily by the prospect of some fine poontang.
Forget all about sports and luxury cars- everyone would be driving a Camry, assuming anyone bothered to invent cars in the first place.
In fact, I'm not sure the human race would've even made it at all. How many men would bother putting up with women long enough to raise children if they at some point weren't being led around by Mr. Happy?

Speaking of which, didn't he release some new and improved Contract With America today? I haven't looked it up, but I'm curious to see if it addresses any environmental/global warming stuff in any substantive way. I'd like to know if he's walked any of it back since all these AGW scandals have broken out.

You got it, that's exactly the problem. Though I am also disturbed by the idea that a conservative would propose a new tax revenue stream without the condition of rescinding the existing one.
Once its in place, there's no ridding ourselves of it for another 100 years, presuming we'd last that long with it. Its 9-9-9 today and 15-15-15 tomorrow, etc.

There would be a problem with state sales tax which would still be there in addition to a new fed sales tax.. would work fine in NH or some place with no sales tax all ready.

Math-wise, yes they've put out a paper on it. Problem is, its legislation which is easy to change a in future Congress to a higher rate across the board, or here and there. It won't remain 9-9-9. It will be raised.

Posted by: Gushka is full of meds and pissed at September 29, 2011 11:29 PM (QNeKQ)
Correct. So long as the rate remains at 9-9-9. It will be mandated by statute, not Const. Amend. Therefore, Congress may change those rates, just like they discuss the current rates today. Do you believe that 9% will somehow become a sacrosanct, never to be touched rate?
Posted by: viking at September 29, 2011 11:30 PM (OZymZ)
Oh fuck no, thats why i said above it would need major major safeguards, because I do NOT trust that america will never elect a marxist cockholster like obama again.
Posted by: Berserker at September 29, 2011 11:33 PM (FMbng)
Procedure rules. Being a lawyer (ducks) I can assure you that procedure is the winning hand. The difference between statute and Const. Amend. is night and day. A statute can be amended tomorrow with little difficulty. A Const. Amend. is a tall order.

There are no safeguards for statutes. The same or following Congresses can change them at their will. That is the point.
If you open a new avenue of tax revenue (national sales tax/consumption tax) on top of the existing tax code, neither will ever go away and are subject to rate change, period. Its a head fake.

yeah well my ideas of a major safeguard would be to make it a constitutional amendment. It just wouldn't work any other way because it IS a new avenue of tax revenue that would get totally abused. Sounds great on paper, but without a safeguard its just like handing a robber a 3rd gun to shoot you with. I was more curious to how big a savings it would be IF it had a safeguard..

The good news there, Berserker, most of those tools don't even know where their polling places are or what day voting is happening. Without a HIGHLY motivated base to go out and collect them, those people just don't get to the polls. Black Americans are 12-13 % of the population. A good deal of them are going to peel of to the Republicans this cycle (I believe).
