— Maetenloch Hey at least Ace got my name right last night. So I got that going for me.
America's Best Actor is... John Ratzenberger?

Yep that's right. If you look at the RottenTomatoes scores of his movies, Cliff 'Ratzenberger' Claven has the highest cumulative average score of all American actors. Of course a lot of this comes from the fact that he's voiced a character in every Pixar movie to date. Plus he must have an awesome agent who gets him into successful films.
For comparison here's the graph of Tom Cruise versus John Ratzenberger. Tom seems to bounce around 70% while John's scores are either near zero or 100%.

And you can create your own graph here.
You're All A Bunch of Bastards
Well okay not all but nearly half of Americans are:
The sheer numbers are staggering. In round terms, about 40 percent of all births in the United States are out of wedlock. That figure for the entire population conceals wide variation: Thirty percent of white children, 50 percent of Hispanic children, and 70 percent of African-American children are born to unmarried parents. But note that for women with a college degree the rate is only 6%.
And why is the bastardy rate so high? Well as Insty has long pointed out we've taken away a lot of the societal benefits of being married (and parents) and added to the burdens. So it's no surprise that young people decide the cost-benefit ratio is not favorable and decide to forgo the whole marriage thing. Neo-neocon agrees:
The marriage decline (which exists in many European countries that do not have large numbers of “aimless or felonious men”) is in large measure, IMHO, a result of the fact that we have simultaneously removed many of the social (although not the economic) costs of illegitimacy, and decreased the incentives to marry.

Can Tom Petty Make Michele Bachmann Stop Using His Song?
So Michele Bachman has been playing "American Girl" at her campaign events and Tom Petty doesn't like it. So he had his lawyers sent her campaign a cease-and-desist order. But can he really stop her? Well not if she has the correct performance license from ASCAP. Note that Petty was also unhappy with George W. Bush using "I Won't Back Down" in 2000.

Israelis Strike Back With Their Own Lawfare
This time they're using their lawyers to undermine the third Gaza flotilla by getting maritime insurance companies to not cover the ships and they're threatening to sue individual activists for any damages caused by Gaza-based terrorism.
Already, the number of flotillistas has been whittled down from 1500 to 350, and the number of boats from 15 to ten. Most of the credit should surely go to the Israeli activist law firm Shurat haDin which believes in bankrupting terrorism through a creative use of the law.And if the lawfare doesn't do the job, well then there's always frogmen with underwater welding torches.
The Classic Sudden Mob Prank
Nobody does cruel but funneh pranks like the Japanese. And here's the classic flash mob one. I especially like 'The Warriors' version of it.
Tech Giant Organizational Charts
Well Amazon does seem like the most functional organization of the bunch which is why you almost never hear about any internal dissension from them. On the other hand Microsoft seems to be their own worst enemy these days.

Octomom: 'I hate my babies and my older children are animals'
The bloom comes off her large family fantasy:
'I hate the babies, they disgust me,' she told InTouch magazine. 'My older six are animals, getting more and more out of control, because I have no time to properly discipline them.'Of course she's also a fame whore so who knows. In a picture taking by the magazine, one child is seen eating dry-wall in her run-down home.
Suleman says that her dream of having a big family has now turned into her worst nightmare as she struggles to take care of her huge family.'The only way I can cope is to lock myself in the bathroom and cry. Sometimes I sit there for hours and even eat my lunch sitting on the toilet floor. Anything to get peace and quiet,' she said.
The reality TV mother has even considered suicide.'Some days I have thought about killing myself. I cannot cope,' she said.

High End Mail Order Brides
Given that you're slumming around here you probably can't afford them. But maybe this will motivate you to take on some extra paper routes.

Are Hard Nipples An Under-Used Accessory?
Well I hope so since this is one fashion trend I would support whole heartily and double handedly. Of course nothing in the fashion world is ever really new. If the 80's had shoulder pads, maybe the 10's will have nipple bras.

North Korea assumes presidency of UN Arms Control Conference
In the latest ‘you’ve got to be kidding’ news from the United Nations, North Korea assumed the presidency of the Conference on Disarmament Tuesday.
“Bare months after the U.N. finally suspended Libya’s Col. Muammar Qaddafi from its Human Rights Council, North Korea wins the propaganda coup of heading the world’s disarmament agency,” the executive director of UN Watch Hillel Neuer said in a statement protesting the move. “It’s asking the fox to guard the chickens, and damages the U.N.’s credibility.”
To which I say, "Wait, the UN has credibility?"

Is it racist to point out that Hispanics and blacks have higher rates of children born out of wedlock?
There was an excellent City Journal piece describing the glamorization of teenage motherhood amongst young Hispanics, but I'll be damned if I can find it now.
And things like this don't help either:
The Immigrant Gang Plague.
/An old piece, so the problem has undoubtedly gotten worse since then.

That's actually a tankini, and those are a real nice option as the bottoms and tops are purchased separately so you can buy them as separates if your top doesn't match your bottom.
The monokini is actually a one piece suit with very strategic areas cut out--can be more revealing than some bikinis. Look at Victoria's Secret website to see what I mean. (I just got a catalog yesterday. Don't know how I got on their mailing list, I haven't bought anything there. I think their stuff is not well made).

I've had enough. I think living in NYC changes your brain chemistry and not in a good way.
See you in the fall.

Totally bad ass. I mean BAD ASS! I loved it. LOVED IT! Lots of action lots of BIG action and giant foocking transforming robots and BOOM and 'SPLODEY and *ADHD ADHD ADHD ADHD ADHD* *Bouncey bouncey bouncey bouncey bouncey bouncey bouncey bouncey bouncey*
*Calms down*
*Controls himself*
So I liked it.
It's less of a stupid movie than the second one because screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci had absolutely nothing to do with this movie. One screenwriter, whose name escapes me, and it was a pretty tight film all told.
The new love interest, Random Victoria's Secret Model (RVSM for short) wasn't as bad as some critics have said, but she can't act. As long as she's wearing tight or tiny clothes it's no problem. After going through hell in the ruins of Chicago she ends the movie without a single hair out of place. Actually, in some places her hair does kinda poof up rather big, like a scared cat. Then it goes back to normal. So apparently her acting skill is poofy scaredy cat.
Shia Labouf is still an asshole.
They brought back Tyreese Gibson! I thought he was pretty good on part one, but they didn't bring him back for part two. Shame, shame. But he's back here and all is right with the world.
So how was the 3D? Okay, I still maintain the best 3D movie was Coraline. Avatar sucked, Clash of the Titans sucked, Tron Legacy sucked, Thor was...well, the 3D was useless though I liked the movie. This one? It's not always necessary, but it did look pretty good. I can actually say...well, I can say I won't denigrate the 3D. I can recommend that you could rationally consider seeing it in 3D. If it's on a digital 2D screen, honestly, that would probably be better. The only reason I didn't see it 2D was that it wasn't on a digital screen, just a standard screen and I really wanted to see this movie in focus (they can barely do this anymore).
And because it's in 3D Michael Bay has to actually slow down his frantic camera work. He really has to focus on characters more. In a way, it helped him as a director. I wish nothing but the best cocaine and the finest hookers for Michael Bay. Really a phenomenal action director.
And another thing that I appreciate is the love he gives for the armed forces. I was wanting to see the premiere last night, but all showings sold out (watch for the box office, it's gonna be HUGE!). So, instead I stayed home and watched Trans parts one and two and I almost forgot that he goes out of his way to make our men and women in uniform look DAMN good. Not in some over the top flag waving jingoistic way either, Bay just makes them out to be dedicated professionals and I really liked seeing that.
Overall, I'd give this movie...mmmmm, four stars out of five. It's the best of the series and a great capper to it as well. This is gonna be the action movie to beat this summer. Recommended.

They make them tough in Israel. Here's UAV footage of an Israeli officer charging a grenade-throwing Hamas terrorist. The Israeli grabbed the Pali, threw him on his own grenade, and jumped on top of him. Grenade goes boom, Pali is killed, and the Israeli officer walks away.

FreedomÂ’s rise? Is that what this is? Because I really donÂ’t think we really have a good read yet on what Arab spring is. Why is this necessarily freedomÂ’s rise? I hope it is, but Islam is not like that. Islam is certainly not about individual freedom. ItÂ’s not about individual anything with the exception of individual sacrifice for the collective good. FreedomÂ’s rise might be a bit of a premature judgment, imo.

Had an awesome moment of Zen today.
I had to attend a diversity workshop, since I was the only woman in my branch. The coordinator was a very earnest African-American lady who talked about how bad it was that our workplace was so un-diverse and what we all had to do to change that.
A few hours later, lunch. We all got our trays, and sat down at the tables. I noticed all but one of the tables had a nearly equal balance of men and women, younger and older people, managers and new employees.
Then there was that one table. The table where everyone was the same race and gender. Yep, _all_ of the African-American women segregated themselves to that one table, the least diverse one there was. And at the head of the table was the diversity coordinator.
I wasn't the only one who noticed. The guy next to me mutters "huh" under his breath. I nearly died.
That showed me what I need to know about the diversity industry.

In running, a rule of thumb is to increase your mileage by 10% a week (to prevent injury). You might be able to get by with a little bit more per week since walking is less impact than running, but you don't want to overdo it so that you don't enjoy doing it because you are too sore!

Yeah, and I do still enjoy it. I think maybe increase it to 1.5 miles next week and then try for 2 the week after. Even after I go back to work, I am going to just get up a little earlier and get out there. When the weather starts turning nasty, I will just use the treadmill. It really is peaceful and quiet even though it's the burbs. And boy.. you can really see what you thought looked like a nice house just driving by, really needs work done. I mentioned the other night that 6 homes on just one street were for sale, two of them I think are foreclosures. Sad. It's really a beautiful neighborhood.

Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) said in a congressional hearing Tuesday that a young person who is an illegal alien in the United States today may someday become president.
“When I look around this room, I see America’s future, our doctors, our teachers, our nurses, our engineers, our scientists, our soldiers, our congressmen, our senators, and maybe our president,” Durbin said immediately after having asked all young persons in the room to stand if they were currently undocumented aliens who would be eligible to become citizens if the DREAM Act were passed.

For the most part, musicians and artists become successful because of luck, looks, or their ability to uh, take dictation.
Becoming fabulously rich while you are obviously a no talent hack must do pretty horrible things to your world view.
Though I mush say, I like some of Petty's music.

It was a little interesting, because my job is technical, they have to draw from a certain educational cohort. That limits them in how many true affirmative action hires they can do. And we do all the other stuff--Black History Month, LGBTA (A?) month, Asian and Pacific Islander Month, Native American Month, Women's Month, Deaf and Hard of Hearing month, Hispanic Month.
So this diversity seminar was mainly about dealing with generational gaps in the workplace. It was a little more interesting and a little less offensive in that way, but insidious. I realized at the end it was the same diversity kick--divide everyone up into grievance groups and pit them against each other--but it didn't seem like that during the indoctrination itself.
/All this crap could be solved by following two simple rules

When The Man Upstairs creates so-called artists, does He say "I will give you talent, but you must pay a price for it. You will grow up to be an ignorant leftist tool."?
There's a story that's been here forever about how he was a complete loser in high-school and had big plans for returning to his reunion as a big success with hot women on his arms. Instead, rumor has it, the folks who treated him badly in HS laughed even harder at him.
It reminds me of that Sinbad joke about how if you're the "pee pee boy" in grade school, you will always and forever be the "pee pee boy" in the eyes of your classmates. You never outgrow it.

Yeah it sort of seems to run counter to something I read, about how your body actually doesn't associate liquids with sustenance. So your drinking something but your body isn't counting those calories. Or something like that. Which actually makes some sense, because for the majority of existence "drinking" has really only been water, and while important if that's all your taking in you won't survive.

I watched a video on the Boston Herald website about the woman in the pool. They were interviewing people who had been swimming there Monday and Tuesday who are saying that the water was clear and there definitely wasn't a body in the pool. Plus, the woman's clothes and ID were found Sunday evening, so one assumes they checked the pool then.
I am now hoping there is more to the story, than that people were swimming with a corpse for 2 days...

The story goes that the Nork leaders are afraid of an Arab Spring type uprising, and that if it started the universities would be a likely starting point. So they shut them down to reduce the odds.
Plus, they are thinking that the more hands in the fields the better the chances of a decent harvest.
It's really bad there food wise right now.

911 Calls: 'Animals' Fighting on Beach on Memorial Day
911 tapes from lakefront paint different picture of beach closing
"Well, you know, this again is frustrating, because if they called a radio station or if they called a news reporter, nobody ever called 911 to report that," McCarthy said.
"We've reviewed the calls that occurred from 1 o'clock that day at North Beach and there were 19 calls for service. Of those 19 calls, one of them was for a disorderly group of kids, or youth. That hardly represents out of control gang bangers permiatting and disturbing the peace on the beach."
But a collection of 911 tapes obtained Thursday by WLS Radio from the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC), seem to corroborate listener reports.

Maybe things are different in Chicago, but this - Temperatures in the area were recorded at about 88 degrees near the beach when five people were overcome with heat exhaustion. - makes it really hard to believe heat was the problem. Is anybody really bothered by temps in the high 80's? Even in a state that tends to the cooler side? Here in Texas it's usually still in the 90's at midnight in the summer.

No, not in Chicago. That was such a bullshit line of reasoning. They hoped no one would call them on it. But, I think some Chicago residents are finally fed the fuck up and are becoming more willing to broadcast far and wide what is going on in their city.

That's right, I named my dog Spot. You got a problem with that? Anyhow, spot was a mix of a Saint Bernard bitch and something big enough to mount her. I wish I had video. We got him as a puppy.
He had two serious convictions in life -- he hated uniforms and he believed he was an inside the house dog. The electricity meter was in the back yard, Spot's back yard, and the reader quickly came to a deal with my folks. He would call for a reading and we would make some numbers up. Electricity was plentiful and cheap at the Spot household.
After he grew out of puppyhood, he could stand up on his back legs and put his front paws on your shoulders. He strongly advised you to not protest this maneuver. With me at 120 lbs and him pushing 150, I generally went along with anything he wanted. But what he wanted the most was being inside.
At first his efforts were mild, like ripping out the screens on the back porch then chewing on the back door. So my dad put chicken wire halfway up the back porch. Spot went over that and gave the back door another healthy chew. So up went the wire to the top. Ha! problem solved.
Not exactly. Next he decided to come in through the wall. He tore off 20 sq. ft. of cedar shingle and was making good progress on the plywood underlayment when this plot was foiled.
So he was restrained with a heavy duty leather collar and attached to a steel clothesline so he could run a bit. First he busted the 1 inch leather collar, then the steel clothesline. Upgrades were applied. His next move was to dig up one of the clothesline poles set in about 100 pounds of concrete. I think he planned on using the pole as a battering ram to break the underlayment. I'm telling you, this dog wanted inside bad.
Perhaps if we had fed him a more regular diet of uniformed people, he wouldn't have been so insistent. It's fun to play 'what if'. Instead, we gave him to a friend that had many open acres to charge around in and terrorize. I bet his electric bill went waaay down.

Posted by: HANOI JOHN KERRY at June 29, 2011 10:27 PM (+/Lac)
From this morning's thread. I don't know why, but I can't let this go: Wallace is O-U-T out as far as I'm concerned as a Beltway attack dog. He's worse than Schultz and Cooper and any of them to me.
46 23 In the headlines, there is a piece linked that purports to show that Chris Wallace is stupid because he is the only one who called Michelle Bachmann a "flake." The problem with the piece is that they only looked for that one word. Not any of the synonyms that people may have used. While Wallace's may have been the only person to choose those words, we shouldn't dismiss him as being way off base.
Posted by: Iron Balls McGinty at June 29, 2011 07:12 AM (Gkhxf)
Fine. Doug Ross only searched for the word that Chris Wallace specifically said people were using. And people were not using it.
And he is way off base. Way, way off base. You know who is a flake? Mitt Romney's a flake. Ron Paul is a flake. Herman Cain is somewhat flaky. Jon Huntsman is like unto a bowl of Frosted Flakes. Tim Pawlenty looks like a flaky hobo type. There are a ton of flakes in the GOP field, and Michele is not one of them.
Furthermore, it's not necessarily the exact question that shows Wallace is "way off base" (except that it is, of course). Why in the world would he ask a question with that smug, snarky, belittling tone? What did he have to gain? This is what he had to gain: He attempted to gain legitimacy for journalists to ask loaded attack questions of our candidates. He attempted to gain the intellectual high ground, from which the MFM can gleefully snipe down at our candidates and blow them full of holes.
This was a Charlie Gibson looking-down-his-nose-through-his-spectacles moment. Chris Wallace wants to be known around the cucumber sandwich eating garden parties as the guy who shot Liberty Valance. Michele is a goddamned honest to God threat to the GOP establishment, and you're going to see elitists from every clique in both parties going for her throat at every opportunity.
Michele realized this, and that's why it took her a few days to accept his lame apology. That was her signal to the rest of the gutless pit Yorkies inside the Beltway that she's on to them, and she's only going to play nice as long as they do.
They're not going to Palin her and they're not going to Bork her. And that's got to be her very first mission. Before they will be willing to report on her seriously, they're going to have to take her seriously. If she'd laughed off the "are you still a pedophile?" question, the press would immediately know they had an easy mark, just like every goddamned national Republican figure is an easy mark.
Where did we start here? Oh, yeah. Iron Balls McGinty, In my opinion, you're being just a little too picayune in your criticism of my criticism of Chris Wallace.
He tried to dickhole her, and she wouldn't stay put for it.

I guess I like the Hanar, so I wanted to keep it around. Besides, the police officer guy was being a dick about the whole thing. Sort of.
I still have not gotten the hang of the compass, so I seem to always end up in the red areas on planets (hate the mako, too - I always hit the wrong button and get thrown out). Just learned about the map feature this time, too. Usually just wander around aimlessly until I find the target.

You can fight in the mako? I wonder if I have and forgot.... That thing is hard to maneuver.
Looks like I'll be hitting up the wiki next time I have a ME session.

yes indeede... good to hear the Marine has a friend helping/or annoying you.. he is a take care of business dude and fits the bill for a NCO..good leader I'd say..
and good to hear the weapons are under lock and key, It don't hurt to have a sharp butcher knife handy for quick needs however...but I'm sure the "one of the" Marines has taught you that lots of things can be weapons, know where they are and what your going to do with it.
