— Maetenloch Hello, hello all M&Ms. Welcome to your temporary back-up stunt Cat
And maybe if you curb your Moronic ways, there's a chance you might make the next Raptor.

Jerry Lewis began hosting telethons to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Associations of America in 1952 after a plea from a staff member who worked on Dean Martin and Jerry LewisÂ’ editions of the Colgate Comedy Hour. And now after almost 60 years of leading them and $2.45 billion dollars later he's finally retiring.
The 85-year-old comedian and Las Vegas resident issued a statement Monday through the Tucson, Ariz.-based Muscular Dystrophy Association calling it time for a “new telethon era.”He says he’ll make his final appearance on the six-hour primetime telethon Sept. 4 by performing his song “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
Lewis says heÂ’ll continue as the associationÂ’s national chairman, a role heÂ’s held since the early 1950s.

The Department of Pre-Crime
On Monday the Supreme Court ruled that police can enter your house without a search warrant if they merely suspect that you could be destroying drug evidence:
The Supreme Court on Monday gave police more leeway to break into residences in search of illegal drugs.I'm sad to say that I have to agree with Ruth Bader Ginsburg's dissent:The justices in an 8-1 decision said officers who loudly knock on a door and then hear sounds suggesting evidence is being destroyed may break down the door and enter without a search warrant.
Residents who “attempt to destroy evidence have only themselves to blame” when police burst in, said Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr.
In a lone dissent, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she feared the ruling in a Kentucky case will give police an easy way to ignore the 4th Amendment. “Police officers may not knock, listen and then break the door down,” she said, without violating the 4th Amendment. So according to the court your 4th Amendment rights are invalidated if you flush while the police are knocking at your door.. . . in the Kentucky case, [the police] entered the wrong apartment, raising the issue of what is permissible in situations where police have reason to believe evidence is being destroyed.

Just like whole wheat pasta, firmer and chewier. If you're a chunky peanut butter fan you will probably be fine with it. Just avoid using a electic mixed and don't beat it too much as the extra gluten in it will make them totally tough then.

"Birmingham’s acclaimed Axis of Time trilogy, an alternate history of World War II, now seems a mere warm-up for this blockbuster set on the eve of the second Gulf War. On March 14, 2003, as coalition forces ready their assault on Iraq, a massive energy wave envelops the continental U.S. and portions of Canada and Mexico. Quickly dubbed the Disappearance by baffled onlookers, the wave mysteriously obliterates all life forms, human and animal, within its shimmering borders. As politicians and scientists try to make sense of the anomaly, some foreign observers, including Iraqis, start celebrating, while others descend into chaos. Birmingham follows the volatile developments through the eyes of an American general in Guantánamo Bay, near the wave’s perimeter; a city engineer in Seattle, the only major U.S. city left unscathed; and an American secret operative fending off assassins on the streets of Paris. While Birmingham’s shocking premise may unnerve some American readers, a story line replete with full-throttle action should appeal to Anglophones everywhere." --Carl Hays

The only thing I found lately that Americans actually do is rescue dogs.
I planted tomato seeds from China and I installed an air-conditioner that required the new 410a refrigerant from China and I bought some pots to plant the tomatoes that were also made in China.
I have some made in America dogs but that is about it.
We are doomed.

It's 12:40 AM Korean time. I just messaged my pastor's wife, his last single daughter and my friend Suzi at my little Korean church. They'd be in the middle of the after church meal now. There's only about 40 people in the congregation. In the back room, there's 4 tables where everyone sits on the floor and eats a nice simple meal after the service. Rice, kimchi, fish or some kind of meat. Loved that and not just because I'm a single guy and it was prepared food. That's the first church I ever went to voluntarily ever. Always was agnostic, atheist before. Amazingly good people.

It drives me nuts when I hear parents speak as if it's cruel an unusual punishment for kids to live without a television or telephone in their room. It's outright fucking laziness. Yes. It's more difficult to sit down with your kid and work out what show you're going to watch, and to teach them to compromise. Worse, turning them lose in their bedrooms with the internet: No f'ing way.
The computer in our house was in the den where there was no hiding and, being the bitch that I am, I set parental controls so that she could only use it when I was home.

There's a whole field of study on it. How to apply laws on other planets when we get there and international treaties on who owns what on other planets. We ain't even there yet and they are figuring out how to ream us.
Here's a clue for their asses. Possession isn't 9/10s of the law when you're a million miles away. It's everything. Like settlers on other planets are going to do what people on earth want.

Witness, the reading of Charles Krauthammer out of the conservative movement. Why? Because he doesn't support Sarah Palin and thinks (correctly) that Herman Cain is really an "entertainment" candidate who can't win. And what do they cite to support their insightful understanding of his true RINO-ness? The fact that once upon a time he was a moderate Democrat. Not the fact that he's a been a blood-and-guts conservative warrior for the past 30 years. The fact that, BEFORE THAT, he wasn't. You see, anyone who didn't START OUT as a hardcore conservative, from birth, isn't really one. Fuck converts! Only those "to the manor born" are welcome in the TrueCon movement over at Hot Air (plus others, just so long as they endorse Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann or Herman Cain as The Only Hope For America).
Of course, they totally ignore the fact that Reagan himself was a Democrat for years, and cited his political inspiration to be not Barry Goldwater, but rather Franklin Roosevelt. He's conveniently dead, however.
Other people in that thread are calling George Will a RINO as well. Why? Why, when he never was a Democrat at any time in his life? Because, you see, he endorsed Howard Baker in the 1980 GOP primary instead of Reagan. That's right! A conservative Republican so noxious that Reagan himself late chose him to be his chief-of-staff! Forget the fact that Will was nearly drummed out of journalism altogether for taking the risk of privately coaching Reagan for his debate against Carter. Forget the fact that he too has been an articulate conservative warrior for over 30 years. No...he wears GLASSES or something. He's erudite and educated, for god's sake -- that's practically an admission of being a Democrat right there! The only people who can be trusted are noble savages, either ignorant, inexperience, or uneducated. 'Cuz book-learnin' makes ya traitorous, consarnit!
I want to punch these people in the crotch, repeatedly. They are what's wrong with conservatism. They're not in it for any principle, they're in it to exorcise their own personal hatreds and demons. They are irredeemably stupid. This is me giving into my anger right here, I know, and obviously there's nothing noble about that either. But if they won't hold their tongue then why should I? I have the virtue of being right, after all. Fuck them, forever.

I've always wonder why more SF novels don't bother to consider what this means for interplanetary war.

I don't literally mean that to be the case (I'm a conservative and will be until I shuffle off this mortal coil -- no cultural repulsion can drive me away), but goddammit I wish these people could at least be amenable to reason. The thing that sticks in my craw is that I know -- I KNOW -- that if I were able to speak to any of them face-to-face, to actually argue with their stupid benighted premises, they would wilt away like the half-rational rubes they are. They would eventually concede. But they breed on the internet, fortified in their stupidity by the gathering consensus of likeminded assholes. And they can drown out anyone who disagrees with them by force of numbers, to the point where they comically begin to think that, hey, maybe they're actually a MAJORITY! Maybe they have the votes to win a majority!
No, but they most certainly have the votes to force a loss. Sometimes I think that's what they really want. To lose, and burn it all down, and dance among the ashes, pissing and shitting themselves, babbling joyously "I TOLD YOU SO" as they celebrate the wreck and ruin of an America I want to preserve.
AARRGGH.
Okay, rant done.

It did seem wierd to have a big kerfluffle over a house seat.
Isn't that one of the perks of having a large majority, that we don't have to obsess over every little house election's results?

Its just more of the same as always. People talking past eachother and no one really listening.
"You're all dirty stinking RINOs and might as well elect a democrat anyways with who you like. Who you want will just stab us in the back!"
"You're all hilljacked dipshit purity morons. Why won't you listen to me when I insult you tell you that you're refusal to pick a moderate is causing a democrat majority."
Blah blah blah everytime.

Mostly because Allahpundit and Ed still supply great content, and I inevitably end up reading the comments afterwards to gauge just how insane our 'fringe' is getting. Also, because a lot of Hot Air denizens inevitably end up migrating over here and taking advantage of the looser commenting standards to muck up AoSHQ with their idiocy. On the other hand, Hollowpoint and Vyceroy have come here from there so it's not all bad.

I certainly don't agree with the notion at Hot Air and TRS (from the commentors) and other sites that Kraut, Will, Rubin, etc. are liberal-progs. Indeed, they are the opposite. However, it now appears that a counter-movement has grown so extreme that when one like myself disagrees with an idea they postulate (such as declaring Cain un-electable) that I'm suddenly labeled a purist.
As fast as some of you claim the purists label someone a liberal, some of you label conservatives as purists just as fast.

ABC News' Devin Dwyer reports: AFL-CIO chief Richard Trumka, who heads of one of the nation's most powerful labor unions, today called current state and federal budget proposals a "despicable canvass of cruelty" and warned of consequences for politicians who even indirectly support them.
"It doesn't matter if candidates and parties are controlling the wrecking ball or simply standing aside," said Trumka in an address at the National Press Club. "The outcome is the same either way."
"If leaders aren't blocking the wrecking ball and advancing working families' interests, working people will not support them. This is where our focus will be -- now, in 2012, and beyond," he said, a message aimed at Democrats and President Obama.

Hollowpoint?!
Obviously you dislike Hollowpoint (for the same reasons, no doubt, that you find me annoying: we're both mouthy and we're on the opposite ends of many arguments around here), but do you really dispute that Allahpundit and Ed Morrissey are good bloggers? Allah's gotten a bit cynical lately, throwing red meat (e.g. RINO-stomping & TrueCon-boosting) material to the hounds even as he acknowledges that he's the quintessential RINO himself, but still: great authorial voice, and a good eye for the news.
As for what Oldcat said about a self-selected group being unrepresentative, I agree and I keep having to tell myself that. They closed registration so long ago and have never re-opened it since, which means that their 'pool' has been inbreeding with itself and getting more and more virulent for awhile.
Still, it makes me wanna holla!

He's been walking back on the global warming thing for the last 2-3 years. In the debate, he openly admitted that his earlier support for cap and trade was a mistake.
That doesn't completely absolve him, but if St. Sarah can get away with supporting carbon caps before she was against it, I don't see why Pawlenty couldn't.

Sure, it would be ideal to have a candidate voters were wildly enthusiastic about, but that's usually the exception rather than the rule anyways. The enthusiasm will stem from the prospect of ousting Obama.
All we have to choose from are the candidates who are willing to run; from there it's a question of picking the most conservative candidate who can win.

Why not? It's nearly 1 3/4 years out from the election. Most view her as that lady from SNL and remember some 3 year old interview as to why she is unacceptable. That pretty much is nothing. Nothing a good campaign can fix.
I dont keep myself up at night worrying about tough people like pawlenty. Most of his support comes from people who are glad he is not that other guy.

Please. Coolidge is my favorite President but he would never get elected /this day in age. Actually, I dont think he would get elected at all in 1922. harding had a bit more character. The only reason he became president was Harding died and he got elected again in 1926 because of the economy. Thats it.

As much as I don't like Jeff B's pussy whipped reasons for hateing Palin I agree with him that she has a steep hill to climb. If she didn't I would vote for her in a second. I like Cain but I don't think he can win, he's 67 and not that well known. Plus the purple shades he wore today just didn't do it for me.
So that is where I am at, T Paw for now.

Okay that is my election rant.
In addition, the reason this is really noxious and retarded is because it only goes one way with these guys. Hey, I've got news: Sarah Palin is (both to me and huge number of Republicans/conservatives/moderates) far, far, FAR more odious than a guy who once upon a time said some nice things about a then-fashionable scientific theory (i.e. Global Warming). Far more objectionable, on a functional level relating to questions about her basic intelligence or competence in the job. But guess what? Were she to capture the nomination, I wouldn't take my ball and go home like TexasJew and other TrueCons. I'd vote for her! Because as terrible as she is, she's better than Obama. As I've said a hundred times, I'm voting for Satan if he's the GOP nominee.
I don't like people who expect me to support their clearly unacceptable and likely disastrously incompetent candidates like Palin, Cain, Bachmann, etc. (which I will if it comes to that -- so you've got me to agree to one half of the bargain) and yet proudly welsh on the deal when it comes time for THEM to suck it up and support someone who they're not entirely happy with.

She's had two and a half years to improve her reputation. After two books, countless TV appearances, speeches, a reality TV show, Internet postings and high profile involvement in the 2010 midterms she has not only failed to do so, but has become even less well liked amongst the general public.
If she hasn't managed to turn it around by now, she ain't going to. I have a fair amount of experience with Bachmann (professional, that is), and I can say that she is, by far, the most loathsome candidate in the GOP field: a cold, soulless, cynical fake-conservative who believes only in her own self-promotion, treats everyone around her like shit she scraped off her shoes, and isn't nearly intelligent enough to get away with that crap. She's a snake, a rotten snake.
Your ideas intrigue me, and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.

See, I have no idea how we can still worry about lack of experience after the One. Could there have been a general election candidate less qualified? Yet, he wins. So why are we still so concerned with experience when the majority in 2008 clearly weren't?
2008: No incumbent.
2012: Incumbent.
Put up a poorly qualified candidate with little record to judge, and voters may decide to go with The Devil They Know.

Romney would have kicked Obama's ass in the debates.
McCain looked like he had been sleeping for a week in a dumpster under some newspapers.
It's unlikely that he's have so completely destroyed Obama that it would've made enough difference. Romney relied on the "change" bullshit almost as much as Obama did.

That would be the other way around. Netscape ganked the Mozilla web rendering engine way back in the old times when the net was young. Netscape remained a primary user of that engine until it went defunct a few years back. Mozilla decided it didn't want to put all of it's eggs in Netscape's basket and released their own browser using the Mozilla rendering engine. eg firefox.

Somebody has been reading too many of Monty's DOOM posts.
But yeah- for all the bitching about "the establishment" and the like, in the end it comes down to the electorate- a group as a whole who doesn't pay as close attention as they should and are too easily distracted by shiny objects.
Yet, despite two world wars, the threat of nuclear armeggedon, the Cold War the Great Depression, Ted Kennedy's car, and 9/11 we remain the greatest, most prosperous and powerful country on Earth. (Insert "America, Fuck Yeah soundtrack here).
Will we ever get the country to our vision of perfection? No, we won't.
Will the voters wake up long enough to recognize the need to change course? They largely did in 2010, and they will again.

2) Ivory Snow laundry powder - at least in the old days - could be blended with lukewarm water (handheld electric blender in a large bowl) to form a really dense foam that, when it "dried," looked just like "movie snow."
Used it on Christmas trees when I was a kid. The changed the formula of the soap and it stopped working, but I think the changed it back. I still have a box of the old old stuff.
I'd bet that if you foamed the soap bar, like in the video, and then blended it thoroughly with water, you could do the same thing.
We put the lights on the tree before the "snow" and the would shine through - it was *awesome*.

Maet did you read that case?
The actual ruling
The Corner guy has it totally wrong on this one. They did not enter the wrong apartment. They followed the drug dealer home to the apartment. They knocked on the door and then heard the sounds.
Ginsberg evidently did her normal sleep through the case because she based her ruling on the "cops had time to get a warrant" while the drug dealers were destroying the evidence.
When you have an 8-1 decision with only Ginsberg dissenting it should make you think a second time before agreeing with her. In any case, the other 8 justices were following clear case history behind the theory of hot pursuit and exigent circumstances.

Pawlenty shows little commons sense. He only changed his positions on AGW and can and trade after being smacked around. He didn't have an epiphany...he only saw the writing on the wall.
What showed me what a spineless dick Pawlenty is - and you don't even have to like Palin to appreciate this - is when the MFing MBM was trying to pin the Giffords shooting on her. He was asked what he thought about the infamous target map. Pawlenty said this had no place in public discourse and she should apologize.
Really??? Fuck you, you pandering little pussy.
Neither of these two shows any intention of really taking it to Obama.
Right now, Cain is my front runner. Who the fuck cares if he hasn't held public office before? In my book that's a huge plus because he doesn't have the baggage of owing anyone any favors. He has executive experience. He knows macroeconomic and fiscal/monetary policy from his stint at the KC Fed.

Last time I was in San Fran for a conference, I was on the 35th floor of a hotel in bed watching the late news. A 4.3 hit and it was kind like the bed flipped me up just a fraction of an inch. and I'm like WTF was that?
A few minutes later the news reported the earthquake. Not wanting to be on the 35th floor if a big one hit and being rather unnerved, I skeedaddled down to the bar. People were snickering at my concern..

Funny thing. In NYC you have to pay them to pump gas, but they are more than willing to pay you if you are lazy, vote D and get a hot one pumped into you.

What I want to know is what the hell you were doing in bed if the bar was still open?

Well can you do this?
Not without hitting multiple notes at the same time I can't. But hey, if your penis is that narrow and flexible (to hit the black keys only?) I guess you've got to make the best of it.

Yes, capture the White House. But I believe someone else has put a claim in on that:
