NC Governor Declares Every CCW Permit in East NC Invalid Due to Hurricane Irene

In his defense this probably wasn't his her intent - NC recently passed a law that automatically suspends all CCW permits whenever the governor declares an emergency in an area.

Thanks to a brain-dead state law foisted upon us by a Democratic state legislature (N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-288.7), every time the governor—in this instance, Democrat Beverly Perdue—declares a state of emergency, it is illegal from that moment onward to carry a concealed weapon until the state of emergency has been declared over.
This is an idiotic law and any arrests are just asking for jury nullification. So what are the NC laws on open carry?

Muammar ♡'s Condi

A lot. So much so that he had a very special scrapbook full of pictures of her.

A bizarre photograph album filled page to page with pictures of Condoleezza Rice has been found at the compound of Colonel Gaddafi.

...Perhaps the most surprising, however, was the album, filled with glossy pictures of America's former Secretary of State.

Colonel Gaddafi had previously hinted at a serious admiration for Mrs Rice.

...'I support my darling black African woman,' he said at the time. 'I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders. ... Leezza, Leezza, Leezza. ... I love her very much. I admire her, and I'm proud of her, because she's a black woman of African origin.'

No word on what happened to the Condi suit he was making.

Russia Approves Siberia-Alaska Railway
Time to start buying up Alaskan property?
The 64-mile (103km) tunnel would connect the far east of Russia with Alaska, opening up the prospect of the ultimate rail trip across three quarters of the globe from London to New York. The link would be twice as long as the Channel Tunnel connecting Britain and France.
Russian officials insist that the tunnel is an economic idea whose time has now come and that it could be ready within ten years. They argue that it would repay construction costs by stimulating up to 100 million tons of freight traffic each year, as well as supplying oil, gas and electricity from Siberia to the US and Canada.

The Wonder That Is Vodka
Suddenly vodka is a billion-dollar business - how did that happen?

But through it all, there is one constant, a commodity that has not only survived during these harsh economic times, but even thrived.

Vodka.

The next time you visit a bar, see if you can count on one hand the number of vodkas on the shelf. Chances are youÂ’ll need both hands, and possibly feet.

My favorite (which I found to be sweet, citrusy, and with only a slight burn) was Skyy, a vodka I actually do enjoy. Second was Stolichnaya (almost minty). Third was an artisanal vodka called Smooth Ambler (which has those hints of aforementioned banana but felt a little rough around the edges). Much to my surprise, my least favorite turned out to be Ketel One, a vodka I would normally choose over Stolichnaya. But perhaps this shouldnÂ’t have come as a surprise. In 2005 the New York Times conducted its own tasting of 21 super premium and craft vodkas. The coordinator, Bernard Kirsch, however, had secretly inserted Smirnoff into the mix.

Take a guess which vodka was judged the favorite.

16 Things You Should Never Microwave
Hey you do realize that you've got a kilowatt radio frequency device in your kitchen that sits idle 98% of the time, right?

New Things To Fret Over: Do You Have Cleavage Wrinkles?

According to the New York Times: "Cleavage wrinkles are deep, vertical creases caused by hours spent sleeping on oneÂ’s side, where gravity forces the top breast to bend farther past the bodyÂ’s midline than it should. The lines can also be caused by sports and push-up bras, which smush the breasts together and are often worn for hours."

And Is Your Dog Watching Too Much TV?
Probably. And that time could be better spent butt-licking and chasing squirrels.
Dogs in the UK watch almost an hour of TV every day, according to new research.

Experts say the number of canines addicted to television is set to rise as the nation continues to make the switch from analogue to digital - because the clearer picture is easier for dogs to watch.

20 So just when it's most important to have a firearm for personal protection, because the police are going to be overwhelmed and scumbags might look at this emergency as an opportunity to rob, rape and loot, that's the perfect time to take away your constitutional rights.

Why don't they make the law that you have the right to own a gun but you have to keep it in a vault at the local cop shop and you're allowed to visit it every two weeks?

43 The "Ivory soap in a microwave" thing is a variation on how we used to make snow for the Christmas Tree. Using old-style Ivory Snow powder (I don't think the new stuff works), or maybe you could grind down bars. Blend in warm water to make a thick foam, it dries to *look* a lot like snow on the tree, but stays firm and lasts at least a month (probably longer) asa decoration. It does kind of smell like soap, but that's not all bad. You can put it on the tree after the lights and the lights glow through the "snow." It was *AWESOME*. I still have a box, saving it for if I ever have kids.

Experts say the number of canines addicted to television is set to rise as the nation continues to make the switch from analogue to digital - because the clearer picture is easier for dogs to watch.

My grandmother used to leave the TV on for her Golden Retriever when she left the house so he wouldn't be bored...

114 That Russian tunnel actually makes sense considered Russia doesn't have warm water ports. Being unable to import and export large quantities of material from Siberia in the winter time has always been a major handicap to Russia. Underground railways immune to the effects of weather could be a game changer. The only thing is the cost, engineering difficulties of working in that climate to build it, and if there's any seismic activity the whole thing is FUBAR.

120 stole this from another message board

I like how remarkably unprogressive the progressive-backed Keynesian economic plan is.

Stage one - give away money to the MEGA rich (aka lower interest rates to zero or near-zero. Essentially donating money to the richest banks), in the hope that they will loan it to the poor who will in turn purchase things from the rich at interest.

Stage two - give away money to the merely very rich (aka multi-million and billion dollar construction firms) in the hope that they will hire the poor who will in turn purchase things from the rich.

Stage three - if all else fails, declare war on somebody (or don't declare and just go to war anyway).

It's laughable that the Keynesian response response to crisis is essentially trickle-down economics.

168 I've almost always got a tv on in the background.  I've never seen my dog ever pay any sort of attention to it.

My cat was very interested once. There was a songbird singing its' heart out who then flew away, stage (or tv) left. The cat went charging after it, even climbed the bookcase to the left of the tv looking for it. Poor thing kept looking on and off for the rest of the evening.

So Ben, did you go get some big boy booze to try out?

Yes, I went to the state store and bought a bottle of 12 year old glennfiddich.

Two things I noticed.

1) Dear lord is scotch expensive.

2) Scotch comes in the nicest packages. Almost all of them weren't simply in bottles but also in individual boxes, metal containers, etc.

So I have about 3 oz of it in a glass right now with some ice.

It kinda smells like a margarita(tequilla).

I just poured it a minute ago so I have yet to sip any.

Posted by: colo lush at August 25, 2011 10:00 PM (+sg0o) It's probably just a replica of the Colt Revolving Rifle or something similar. I think Rossi and Taurus have recently made a long-barreled version of the "Judge" called the "Circuit Judge." It's a revolving .410 shotgun, basically. Can also fire a .45 colt, which I think is more useful.

The locals were talking about this yesterday at an office BBQ (yes, another one).  I haven't followed the case, but I gather there is really bad blood between the families now.  The husband and his dad are threatening to (or planning to) release her diaries because they show she was a loose woman or something.  If that doesn't scream "I know my wife is dead (because I killed her)," I don't know what does.

Consensus here is he killed her.

So, tonight Ben's pubes start coming in, eh?  Keep us posted, Big Ben.  Pics not required.

It's been about 9 years since I've had hard liquor. I had a terrible experience and beer is sufficient to get the job done.

I just wanted to give it another go.

I'll be honest, the ice has cooled it down and makes it easier to drink. The taste isn't very good, but it's doesn't taste like giving a rimjob to a Pine tree as Gin does.

Maybe it's an aquired taste. I'll keep drinking it til I finish the bottle(4 oz at a time). Maybe I'll enjoy it more towards the end of the bottle

I tend to blow it off as it seems so gossipy. But we know so much about how this guy operates now  so none of these tales seems like a stretch.  Anyway, I still don't know who this source is and certainly wouldn't doubt it if it were real (although I'm leaning towards this being a BIG work of fiction).

Anyway, if the latest installment is true, you'll want to throw up.

The width of 2fingers in the bottom of a glass of ice. Which is a bunch less than 3 or 4 oz. You can let the ice melt but why do you want to wait for that? Plus I think its better nice and cold from the ice.

Try it, just fill a glass with ice and pour two fingers out of the glass you have now and top it off with water. Impossible not to like.

When my parents moved from their rather large house to a 3 bedroom condo in Gulf Shores, they offered me their generator. Where I live in North Alabama, I've never been without power for more than 10 minutes in the ten years that I've lived in my house. I have no idea why I agreed to take it.

This April, when the tornados hit, I had no power for ten days. I will always have a generator. I was able to keep the refrigerator and freezer cold, save food for my neighbors, charge cell phones, and run the coffee pot.

I learned a few things: Always have a couple of 5 gallon containers of gas and an extra can or two of propane, do regular PMCS on the generator, bacon and eggs cooked on the grill are pretty damned tasty, the coffeemaker takes a lot of power (and bogs down the generator), the French Press makes damned good coffee (another hand-me-down from the parents), and the younger brother who lives in Nashville will gladly bring beer, ice, a propane lantern and his chainsaw.

We in Fairfield Township, Ohio have been treated to one of Obama's shovel ready jobs.  A 3 or 4 mile stretch of bypass with a total of 4 cross streets has been upgraded to accomodate traffic.  In addition to widening it from 2 to 4 lanes, 3 of the 4 intersections are now "SUPER INTERSECTIONS".  For the uninitiated that means instead of a few lights at an intersection we now have 34 stop lights at each one.  Instead of being able to drive across the bypass or turn left cross traffic at each intersection must turn right, drive a 1/4 mile, cross 2 lanes wait at another stop light, make a u turn, back a 1/4 mile and either go straight or turn right to make a simple left turn or cross the road.  The 34 stop lights are supported by a massive structure across the now 8 lane wide road plus a number of auxilliary light poles.  To coordinate the flow of traffic a half dozen cameras are pointed in every direcions connected to a computer system that is supposed to speed things up.  What did it cost you might ask to make these "improvements" that nobody wanted.  Estimates are currently around $27 million bucks.  Also at least one death was incurred on the project.  Some poor soul was squeezed like a ketchup packet by a paving truck backing over him in the dark.

Here is an animation of this atrocity.  We are being treated like rats in a maze.  It makes me want to kick a civil engineer in the nutsack.

340 "Mechanical, Electrical, Chem/Bio, etc. They're actually pretty funny in their own way. One of them refuses to work with solids(which includes people)" That sounds about right. I always loved dealing with the engineers at the factory. They treated me like an exotic pet sometimes because I would ask a million questions when I would help them with their projects at the factory. Guys probably know how to do vector calculus in their heads but the temp would be the one helping them with machine settings, and they'd patiently explain what they were trying to achieve when I'd interrogate them, loved 'em.

This is the big problem I have with our idiot boy-king's fetish for high-speed rail: even high-speed trains go about a fifth the speed of an airplane, and only slightly faster than cars. Which means unless you live right next to a train station and are going to a place right next to another train station on the same line, you're better off driving or flying.

Quick tip, Mr. President: if railroads could make money carrying passengers, they'd be making money carrying passengers. The fact that only a few rail passenger routes (mostly commuter lines) make money should be a big clue.

Russian officials insist that the tunnel is an economic idea whose time has now come and that it could be ready within ten years. They argue that it would repay construction costs by stimulating up to 100 million tons of freight traffic each year, as well as supplying oil, gas and electricity from Siberia to the US and Canada.

Russia has a track record of cutting off gas supplies to customers who displease them.

If there were anything other than gas or electricity that we wanted to import from Siberia, we would already be doing it using ships. And we're not.

Forget it.

419 The fact that only a few rail passenger routes (mostly commuter lines) make money should be a big clue.

You are missing an important face.

Liberals aren't concerned about "choice" and they certainly aren't concerned with efficiency. They want you to live the way they tell you to live. Getting you out of your car is part of that - it is VERY hard to control a man with a car.

Now, if all you have is your two feet and public transit, well, ask your average New Orleanite how well that works...

440 405 This is the big problem I have with our idiot boy-king's fetish for high-speed rail: even high-speed trains go about a fifth the speed of an airplane, and only slightly faster than cars. Which means unless you live right next to a train station and are going to a place right next to another train station on the same line, you're better off driving or flying.
__________

I once looked into doing AmTrak for a vacation for which I had a lot of time. Not only was it more expensive than flying, but the trains didn't go anywhere near either where I was or where I wanted to go, so I would still have had to rent a car.

See, you're not helping here.  As myself and the previous dip are trying to suggest, the proper reaction is pants-shitting terror, followed by a demand that the government do something.  Your macho self-reliant routine isn't helping.  It's more than time that you attuned your thoughts to the modern age, and started being part of  your community.

Posted by: Teh Double Dip in Your Pocket at August 25, 2011 08:35 PM (D+phB)

450 Thats all they do, itsa all they ever fucking do.

An interesting part of it is there world view. Being generally materialist, or at least nonsensical "spiritualist", the here and the now, and their individual lives in particular, are ALL that matters. Consider what that actually means at a deeper level.

Well, clearly that explains the hard drive for amoral self advancement, hardly a surprise...but this also drives their belief in endless doomsday scenarios.

Materialism makes life pointless. Sure smoking that joint, having sex with that girl, etc feels good, but then what? You age. You die. You end. Your life was meaningless. Your life is meaningless.

Ah...but what if the end was nigh...you were, at least potentially, the last generation. Suddenly things become very different. Your life has meaning. You are one of the chosen ones. You (liberals) were the ones you (society) were waiting for. You will redeem humanity with your actions...or humanity will die if you fail.

But here is the bast part...the specific scenarios the left buy into don't require them to actually sacrifice any of their drive for short term pleasure! That Global Warming conference you flew to on the other end of the world? It isn't carbon-hypocrisy...it is a centerpiece in the war to save humanity!

Totally, its the narcissist thing again, "they" are important, "they" think they are doing the "great work", so WE shouldn't mind sacrificing in order for THEM to carry on.

Al gore can have a mansion that uses the power of 10 houses like I live in, and fly in his own plane, and have a carbon foot print the size of a small asteroid, because he is entitled, he is the warrior of dooky.

Obama can say we all need to have skin in the game so HE can live a lavish lifestyle, and his fat ass wife can tell us we need to sacrifice, and how to eat, so she can stuff her fat fucking shark mouth at lavish dinners overseas while on stooopid expensive vacations on the tax payers dime. A hurricane story.

On Aug. 24, 1814, British soldiers marched into Washington expecting armed resistance, but finding the city abandoned instead. So, after lunch at the White House, they proceeded to burn down the city. The morning of the 25th, a hurricane hit the city. Rain put out the fires. Tornados sent British cannon and debris flying, killing several soldiers. The panicked Brits abandoned the city. Providence was with the Americans that day, as I pray it is the next few days.

You can do an image search for "highway 49." Highway 395 starting in Susanville shows you the mountain valleys and then on down through the high desert all the way to the untracked desert of the south. But if you keep going you end up in LA. You can take 101 up the North Coast, take 199 East to Grants Pass, I-5 South to 97, North to Klamath Falls, South again on 139 to 299 and 395 (East), then North again to Oregon's lake country - you will have covered some of the greenest rolling hills this side of Ireland. I love roads like 49, 70, and 162 in California. I broke a seat mount on a Z on 162 one time. But if you have a Winnebago, stay off those roads. You'll end up going 5mph and people like me will be stuck behind you shooting flames from our mouths.

Not necessarily available at every corner store, or at least around here.  They have a store locator, but a general rule of thumb with these guys is grocery and liquor stores.

yes this is the one with the colic. the problem is that shes still got off and on crap appetite. shes not poopin much but then shes not drinkin or eating much. i guess im glad she was kinda fat.

but this is nerve wracking. i guess im happy that im not like my friend whose favourite mare died of colic yesterday then her mom had a stroke. or the friend i saw whose horse has been colicking for 4 days and pooped exactly 4 times in four days... no im better than that.

but i wish shed poop more and drink more

i would really feel better if shed do that.

i hate it when they are just "off"

Jesus. H. How long does it take you to get to the top?

Just under 2 hrs. or so.  on the Mtn. Bike.

The Road bike gets up it a lot faster and you get to pass ALL the traffic on the way down!   Even the motorcycles have a hard time keeping up.  They tend to overcook the turns due to the excess weight.

Worst crash I ever had was climbing that thing.  I ripped a cleat out of my shoe and did an epic face plant just below the Prison Camp.

Had to ride back to the U med center with half a beard and a big tear from my eye to my ear.  I caught a glimpse of the damage in a car window and about passed out from the gore.

Got stitched up by a really hot doctor though.

553 Gotta love slayer, but man the lead guitar work is just nasty. I hated learning slayer cover tunes for that reason. The songs buzz along with these killer crushing rhythms, then the lead would come and explode into mindless noise with no direction. It was definitely part of their charm, but I just couldn't get myself to play that bad. lol

Well since the thread seems kind of slow and there does seem to be some music linking. I'll just go ahead and throw my friend's band out there. "A New Definition" I hate that they don't have anything but low quality live stuff of them on Youtube but amazingly their MySpace page is still up with music. The first songe "Drive" is propably their softest on the list and its more, uh "party rock." The rest is more along metal lines.

And well I like them at least and that's what matters to me.

Kerri and Jeff are no Janick and Adrian, that's for sure...but iirc they started out knowing little or nothing about theory. The early years were pretty much dyi Metal.

Thats how it was for most of us. Back then it was all new. I never knew jack shit about theory either, still don't really, but my instincts were always good.. Who needed theory when you had loud marshalls and endless  gazongas leaning on the stage. lol

Local store where I buy my brewskis is run by an Ismaili from Pakistan. Great guy, sense of humor, knows his stock and clientele, great family....we swap business stories all the time. I've known him for 14 years, now.

Originally, I thought he was a little too conspiracy-minded, but over the last decade or so, I may be coming around to his way of thinking.

Evidently, the pronouncements from the Aga Khan tend to be less like fatwas and more like, "GTFO of Kenya, it's about to become a shitbowl; go long non-OPEC integrated oil producers. Never give a moment's pause in raising your kids right, and honor your parents for how they raised you." I can understand why that would be popular.

One thing to keep in mind about NC though. It has been going purple for a while as Northerners have been moving there to the research triangle area to escape their own fucked up State.

Then they combine with local blacks to all vote Dem so they can get the same fucked up laws and State they escaped from.

The next time you visit a bar, see if you can count on one hand the number of vodkas on the shelf. Chances are youÂ’ll need both hands, and possibly feet.

The bar I frequent has that many (hands AND feet) of just Pinnacle. That doesn't include the Grey Geese, Stolichnaya, Ketel One, Absolut(s), Cupcake(s) (yes, really Cupcake vodka). And that's the just the ones I remember, and I'm thinking I forgot one...ah, yes, Skyy.

Actually, unless they just changed all the laws on the matter since I visited NC in June, if a state of emergency is declared it is illegal to transport ANY firearms off your property.

No Concealed Carry, no Open Carry, no trip to the shooting range, and as was the case last year, no transporting your shotgun to the hunting grounds for the opening weekend of pheasant season...
