— Dave in Texas Lemme tell you something about Luckies. If you want to cough for the next four decades (assuming you make it past the treatments), fire up a pack of Luckies every day.
I used to swipe these from my grandpa. Because dad smoked Salems (GAH! ACK!). These are less throat irritating than, oh, say, the barbed cock of Satan (I'm guessing here, I haven't sold my soul yet. YET.) They are not, what's the word I'm lookin for here, smoove. Yes. They are not smooove.

Some outstanding Americans prefer the smoke of the grill, and serving other Americans.

(with apologies to whomever linked that today and my "Hanoi Jane" link too, my stupid memory can't recall.. but I didn't find this, it was sent)
You know what was my absolute favorite moment of the 2010 conservative landslide? Lt. Col. Allen West, USArmy(ret) winning an election to the Congress.
He'd go through hell with a gas can for us, and I'd go with him.
When you absolutely, positively, have to deliver it over a mile and a quarter, Sgt. Nick Ranstad, USArmy can deliver the mail. 2065 meters even.
via Andy, a known assassin (and off the grid cause of his tip.)
Completely awkward BBC "guest commenter" moment. "I am not Ben Walker, and I know nothing about baseball. Other than that, I'm your guy."
tipped from Drew(RINO)M. Thank God I get help with this crap tonight. I couldn't do it by myself.
The end times are near, when organic arugula hits a buck or more, a... ok I don't know how it's measured.. a basket.

via sarahk47, who is busy taking care of a little kid so she can't bust on me here, she has no time for that nonsense.
Happy saturday night you idiots. Spreadin the love all around. All around.

Did not like gratuitous mentions/pictures of the current POTUS at the beginning, however. I wish they'd had a fake president instead of the real one. It 1) dates the movie and 2) I hate the JEF.
Oh, and Megan Fox's character was far more interesting than Rosie Whatsherface. At least Megan Fox was a fighter. Rosie Whatsherface spends most of her time screaming (and not the good kind).

Oh yeah, 3D mostly sucks. Most filmmakers are just making movies and if the 3D just happens to come out well, so much the better. But Michael Bay is just the right kind of lunatic to do his best to make it work. And I think it does by and large. Take the scene where they jump out of the Ospreys in those...what, flying squirrel suits? I don't know what you call 'em. It looked really cool. Now not every second needs the 3D, certainly, but the action sequences come out looking pretty durned good.

I think 3D makes fight scenes harder to watch too, but maybe that's just me. There was definitely a lot of good fighting in this movie. I don't know why people complain about the action-y aspects of Michael Bay movies. The TF movies have consistently provided plenty of action. I think the second one had more comedy than this one. This one was more straight laced like the first.

Oh, don't worry about the action in 3D. Apparently, it takes the brain a couple of seconds longe to perceive the visuals in 3D, so Bay had to change his editing style and filming style a bit. Less quick cutting, less shakey cam, more focus on what's in front of the camera, more visual continuity...it really helped Bay as a filmmaker, actually.

In this one the administration (through Frances McDormond - who didn't get hers like the guy in the second one did, much to my disappointment) pretty much surrendered to the enemy and let the enemy takeover before the military and the rest of the good guys took fighting back into their own hands.

Does anyone know of a budget or deficit simulator that gives you leeway to cut out whole government programs? My Facebook friends have been posting simulators where it's impossible to not have a crushing debt and deficit.
I say they lack imagination. Where's the simulator that lets you disband the Dept of Education, the Dept of Homeland Security, the TSA, etc?
I find the premise of the calculators people are using interesting. Yes, the debt and deficit cannot be overcome without Christie-esque levels of cuts. It's either that, or collapse...

Yeah, but they haven't figured it out yet.
Another "scam" people are doing involved those presidential dollar coins.
Let's say you have a credit card that gives you air miles, well they goverment is so desperate to get those dollar coins into circulation, they will let you buy them at cost and won't charge you a dime for shipping.
So people would buys thousands of dollars in gold coins and then go down to the local bank and exchange them for cash, or have them deposited in their checking account. They would then pay their Credit Card bill with that money.
So they would get a ton of airline miles and it wouldn't cost them anything that a little phyiscal effort.

Read something hilarious.
Here are some funny parts:
I was recently asked by Michelle Obama to share my thoughts on how the 2012 Democratic National Convention, being held in my hometown of Charlotte, NC, might be unique and more appealing to the masses. I had a few minutes to reflect on this and respond, but I feel like I passed up a really great opportunity, because immediately after I responded, I realized a much more profound and positive way that the DNC could reach out to the masses: LEAD BY EXAMPLE.
. . .
Here is my proposal: Pick the building that will house the main DNC events in Charlotte and solar panel it. (Charlotte will love this as they are working their butts off to re-imagine the city as a "green" leader!) Then work with the American car companies we all recently bailed out to secure a fleet of electric vehicles for all the officials attending the DNC. Get some of these companies to build a new high security electric/bio-diesel hybrid bus that can carry the President and his family to the event. Get bio-diesel companies to recycle McDonald's grease in a public event showcasing environmental cross-commercial endeavors. Make a big show of everyone arriving at the DNC in these electric cars and when they all get there, they should step out of the cars and plug them into charging stations that are run off of 100% wind power or solar electric from the buildings roof top. Also, to really connect with the youth, get companies like Brammo, who make sexy all electric motorcycles, on board so some officials and DNC attendants can arrive on these and also plug them into the electric charging stations.

FWIW, I turned 48 today, and immediately started having arthritis pains in my fingers, as in, 6:05 a when I woke up (Big dogs who needed to pee.) Typing is actually difficult now. I will whine with you. I had a major blonde moment a couple of years ago. I not only closed the door of my old 'vette on my thumb, the door was locked. That wasn't the blonde moment. That came when the bottle of water I'd put on the roof (so I could get the key out of my purse to unlock the door to rescue my thumb) tipped over and started rolling. I leaned forward to grab the water bottle and closed the door one more notch on my thumb. I can always tell when bad weather is on its way. I now have arthritis pain in that thumb. Much sympathy for your new pain.

Christie-esque levels of cuts. It's either that, or collapse.. Posted by: Palandine
The assumptions that the calculators contain are proof of their political nature. Try finding one that allows for sale of assets. The Fed is sitting on over $3 trillion dollars of assets it could pare back. Wireless frequencies, land, $170 billion dollars of TARP purchases, oil & mineral rights, etc.
Think about that last one; if the Fed were to go have a firesale on oil & mineral rights can you imagine the impact it would have? The economy would jump overnight. Oil would drop and fucking jobs for fuck sake.
It takes more and more self-control these days in the face of such a ridiculous entity as the Federal government.

All the big issues have been settled. All that is left is for the lawyers to draw up the paperwork, and the owners and union to ratify. They really don't have to have the actual agreement drawn up because all they really need is the framework, which has been agreed upon.
Back when I worked in sports, we had a situation pretty similar, and we came to an agreement with the union 3 weeks before the season started. We started the season with the framework of the agreement as the guide while the attorneys hammered out the final draft.

Snyder starts to get things right, but then effs it up. First he fired Norv Turner (yah) and brought in Schottenheimer to fix things. Marty started getting rid of the deadwood, but Snyder fired him so that he could get the "old ball coach". That disaster ended with the hiring of Joe Gibbs. Even Joe couldn't win with Snyder's meddling, which brought about Jim Zorn. I loved Zorn as a man, but Snyder and Cerrato absolutely effed him with their treatment of him.
Which brings us to Shannahan. I pray that Snyder remembers how Jack Kent Cooke used to run the Skins. Chase women Monday through Saturday, show up at the game on Sunday to receive the trophy.

I got a real thrill in the last day or so when I read an article talking about how common it is for people in Portland, which is filled with lib-friendly bike lanes, and lib-friendly light rail, to injure themselves on their bicycles when they run into one of those light rail rails. I'm a bit concerned that I pulled my dumbass move last Saturday and the damned toe is still bleeding (only when I'm on it too much). My smartass cousin offered to call a 'toe truck' for me. The shittiest part is that the only open-toed shoes I have that don't have a heel are flip-flops. Not exactly appropriate for work. Fortunately, I can work from home when necessary. He said fluorine is poisonous, but someone in gubbmint decided we need it for our teeth. He thinks it's totally unnecessary and responsible for dumbing down our kids and causing Alzheimer's.
After two of his wife's family members were diagnosed with cancer, he started researching it and is skeptical that the most prosperous country on earth, that devotes billions to medical research, hasn't come close to solving the whole cancer puzzle. Sounds like he's into the whole pharmaceutical conspiracy theory.

Very similar story here. In fact, the doc told me I could have done it myself by heating up the end of a paperclip over a stove until it was red and using that as a drill.

He said fluorine is poisonous, but someone in gubbmint decided we need it for our teeth. He thinks it's totally unnecessary and responsible for dumbing down our kids and causing Alzheimer's.
I heard this a long time ago and, just in case, tried to switch to a brand without fluoride. It's doable, but a challenge, nonetheless.

I'm pretty certain he was looking for a real calculator, not a steaming pile of propaganda from the NY Slimes. One with options like:
1. Eliminate every position in the Federal government that didn't exist the last time the budget was balanced.
2. Auction off the District of Columbia to the highest bidder, with the proviso that residents never be allowed to vote on any candidate or measure in the United States.
3. Aggressive zero-based budgeting. If an agency's funding is not included in a timely, balanced budget passed by Congress and signed by the President, every member of that agency meets one final time on the Capitol Mall to collect their termination checks, while their offices and contents are auctioned to private interests.
4. Tax fairness. Every member of congress shall pay twice the usual rate of income tax -- once for being a citizen, and once for thinking it applied to someone else.

In 1971, one of my stoned college buddies found an old abandoned cigarette machine in an old abandonded building. The cigarettes were like 35 cents a pack. He bought a pack of Lucky Strikes unfiltered. They were at least 10 years old. They were octagonal, and had weevil holes. We smoked them, and they really sucked. That's the only LSMFT (Lucky Strikes Means Fine Tobacco) cigarettes I ever smoked.

Had a doc try to relieve pressure on my big toe, a young horse decided to step on it and then turn. He used what looked like a soldering iron. Well he burned through the nail and hit live tissue without the desired results. He wanted to try it again. Told him that was his only chance. Lost the nail, it grew back and looks normal. So bleeding is better I think, though maybe not if they have to take the nail off for you.
Fluoride is very poisonous and not necessary for strong teeth. Last visit to the dentist they didn't even do a fluoride soak so I think they are starting to get it. If you have sensitive teeth try swishing with cod liver oil(it comes flavored).
Moki,
Happy Birthday. My hands used to ache and I thought it was my job(I was trimming the hooves of 80 horses a month at the time, seemed like a reasonable assumption) turns out it was a side effect of celiac disease. Within 3 days of giving up gluten they stopped aching. Could be caused by something else but it is worth a try.

We all take a little damage here and there living our lives. I've never been stepped-on by an equine, so you've probably got me on points.
But what happens is you sit quietly, alone, and things throb....and they slowly take over your consciousness -- and even petty little torques and sprains start to become life-altering injuries.
I once heard somewhere that, in terms of actual nerve stimulation, shoes that pinched were more painful than appendix removal without anesthesia. The thing is, people didn't fixate on their feet.
We might pop an Advil or swig a beer....and sometimes that works. Or we can use some special language to help get past the sting. Sometimes that works. And sometimes we can come to the ONT and kvetch, together, and that will allow us to put the pain on the back-burner for a while and actually feel better.
You've got a good guy, Gushka. I hope he pops back out of the funk he's in. You're right to worry for him, of course, but I hope that hanging out with some morons keeps the worry from eating at you.
On the contrary side, I appreciate that you listen to my bitching about my knee without collapsing into laughter about what a softass I'm being. It helps me, too.

look, everyone handles pain differently. i dont think youre soft, ever. I think youre feeling whats happening in your world RIGHT NOW. which makes it immediate and difficult to ignore.
i love hearing about other people's worlds. If you can block out Elton John singing with Lady Gaga (or just Gag), you'll do fine.
We're dependent on the Video On Demand service here - they release some films on the DVD release date. No fighting at the rental machines for us. It's a little more in cost than Redbox, but worth not having to drive out looking for one, too.
We watched a movie on TNT last night (Coming & Going), missing the first 45 minutes. They did a repeat, so we watched the beginning that we missed. Shouldn't have done that. What was a cute, weird comedy turned into a liberal crapfest all because of the opening setups.

I liked it. I loved Michael Caine in it. My coworker didn't like it. So I had low expectations going in.
The only thing is, I knew who the bad guy was pretty much as soon as they mystery started. I thought his name was kind of ironic too, having something common with someone part of the Obama administration... *no spoilers*

I liked Wall-E. It was charming. I thought the robot romance angle was well done.
I also think it basically proved that the green movement was in large part a luddite anti-technolgy movement. The whole "humans become dependent on technology and get fat and can't hardly move" angle was something I saw in an old Mad Magazine reprint. Not a new idea.

Eh, it wasn't much of a screed so much as a generic Big Oil villain. The movie was well done enough that it didn't bother me. Just like Wall-E. Having Mater as the hero was neat.
It was much, much, much better than Up. But then I think I like Up the least next to The Incredibles and A Bug's Life.

You'll probably have to re-apply the vinegar to get the job done, and best to do so in sunny conditions.

The

Why are they still fighting even though the law has been passed, signed, sealed, and delivered? Because it is now in the hands of the DOJ thanks to the unconstitutional Section V of the VRA. Guarantee Holder will try to “Hold” it until after the 2012 election. This is the 4th or 5th in a series of anti-voter ID law articles.

Clemens perjury trial halted due to prosecutor incompetence
Judge declares mistrial. He will determine later if government gets a second shot. Unless they start prosecuting politicians for the same offense they should not get a first shot.
Personally I think these congressional “investigations” are nothing more than political kabuki theater in 99% of the instances and should never have been allowed by the courts.
If congress has evidence that someone has committed a crime they should get them prosecuted. Here what Clemens was accused of was not even a crime and it was something the federal government has no business meddling in to begin with. If we started prosecuting people in congress for lying there wouldnÂ’t be anybody left in congress to prosecute after a year.
