— Open Blogger Well, well, well my dear pretties. Here we are with me your veritable journeyman AOSHQ purveyor, posting on behalf of Maetenloch, while Maet basks in the permafrosted vacation land, somewhere North of Bolungavik. I can give you Maet's lattitude (65 degrees El Norte) but giving you the longitude, well, that's just too personal. When's the last time you gave out your longitude?
Moving right along, let's test a few things out shall we? Let's test some of the controls here, I wanna make sure we are all tuned up, so to speak.
So if you have had enough of the, "hey if we take in $2 Trillion and spend $6 Trillion, but it's all good" schtick from the besotted brainiacs of Dem, stick around and partake in some blog free basing... I can't promise you will learn anything, but hey, it sure beats cleaning out the garage or watching a PBS pledge drive. So C'mon, sit back relax and let it roll.
Oh, and by the way, we will be heavy on the pictures tonight. A friend of mine the intrepid poli-blogger, Stacy McCain taught me a few things along the way, to wit, get the photos up early baby, and may they be many and easy on the eyes!

Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, what a pair. I mean really, Scarlett Johansson, that name has a lot of the same letters, perhaps Ms. Johansson should consider this sort of waste, and maybe buy a few carbon credits.
I hear Algore is selling em.
Somewhere along the line I recall this being a smart military blog. In fact, it was mentioned by actually one of the brightest on our side, Messer, Tony Blankley, the prolific conservative pundit.
That said, why don't we take a look at a cool plane, the type that was flying above the strat during the cold war. It's the bad ass SR-71 Blackbird. The official stated top speed of this sucker was 2,200 MPH (Mach 3.3) but it had a whole lot more under the hood. It could get from L.A. to D.C. in a little over an hour, give or take.

Building the post and it scrambled on me. That's always fun and now I'm really under pressure as I know Kratos, Rum, Sifty and many others are probably wondering where the ONT is. And well, I tried using the red courtesy phone for assistance but all I kept getting was some weird clicking sound with foreign music.
Not to worry. I never do, it's bad for the liver.
This is what I call a segue on the fly. So hang on.
One of my all time favorite sitcoms was Taxi. You may remember Taxi, it was on in the 80's and was brilliant.
Here are a few clips from the old sitcom. Enjoy.
And of course how could I forget Lata Gravas, the loveable garage mechanic that spoke with an Eastern European accent that no one could quite figure out where it was from.
And here is a best of clip of Andy Kaufman. you know, there are a group of folks who think he's still alive. I guess we'll all know if Andy shows up on the Art Bell Show at 2AM some morning.
And where would we be without a skate boarding bull dog video? I mean really, isn't this an AOSHQ staple?
Bulldogs are some of the best dogs. I used to own one. The non-skateboarding kind. But I think, he ate a skateboard once though.
And with that, I'm outa here for now.
Use this as the fre-basing blog platform, but keep it clean and editble for the banhammer is always watching. And because, well we have a morals clause, or a Claude Morale in the group.
Don't freak, Maet's going to be back next week at regularly scheduled program time.
Now where did I put my smokes?

Downgrading of U.S. debt has already started.
(Reuters) - Credit rating agency Egan-Jones has cut the United States' top credit ranking, citing concerns over the country's high debt load and the difficulty the government faces in significantly reducing spending.
The agency said the action, which cut U.S. sovereign debt to the second-highest rating, was not based on fears over the country not raising its debt ceiling.
Instead, the cut is due the U.S. debt load standing at more than 100 percent of its gross domestic product. This compares with Canada, for example, which has a debt-to-GDP ratio of 35 percent, Egan-Jones said in a report sent on Saturday.

1) This is not a "smart military blog", though Ace does have his heart in the right place. He supports our troops and he supports the mission as well. And if we do have boots on the ground in Libya and Yemen, well those guys are just practicing. I doubt that there is anything worse for the point of the spear to not get used. Though I don't know much about that, except what I've learned through books and movies. Still, the plain fact is you learn more by performing than you do by rehearsing.
2) Confession time: I can't reach Ace's site from my authorized IP address 'cause he banned me for cause. And I admit it. His call was righteous. I crossed a line that he explicitly warned all commenters not to cross. And I crossed it after his warning. What I do now is use an unsecured wireless network of a neighbor, and I have to go outside to do it, with my laptop. Now the problem is that by banning me from his site, he also banned me from Protein Wisdom and Confederate Yankee. And he didn't tell me I was banned, so I wasted about three of my hours of my time, and about two hours of my ISP help desk trying to find out why I couldn't access these sites. And then I emailed Ace and asked if he had banned me.....and he said, "Yes, I banned you."
Incidentally, when I found out that I was banned, I informed my ISP that I had been denied access, and thanked them for taking the time to help, and apologized for misusing their time. They were great, by the way. So I want to give a shout out for AT&T Uverse. They really tried to solve the (non) problem that I created.
3) Now that didn't stop me from accessing AoS, or Confederate Yankee, or Protein Wisdom. I had to find a work around, which I did. And so I couldn't actually get mad at Ace; yes by banning me Ace denied me easy access to the other sites, yet he didn't actually prevent me from accessing the other sites. But it did cause me to rethink things, because being banned by Ace really hurt. It was a teachable moment.
4) Ace, I apologize for crossing the line. And I won't mention either the topic or the context as I feel that might lead to other transgressions by other commenters. But I want everyone to know that I was warned, I transgressed, and got caught. And I suffered consequences. And in right short order too.
5) I'm not sure if this is the right way to go, writing about this in public. The thing is, I'm moving in the next 60 days, so I don't need Ace to re-authorize my current IP address. (At least I don't think so.) I reckon I'll be getting a new one, at my new real world address. I accept probation, and hope I'll be permitted back once I get a new IP. Going outside is a pain, especially when it is raining. To be honest, I am damn glad it is the summer time here.
6) But here is the thing: I've made positive contributions to various threads, and I know this because other commenters have referred back to my comments. Thanks for that, by the way. (You know who you are.) I've written some damn funny stuff in the comments of Ace's blog, just ask Andrew Breitbart. (OK, now that's funny right there, if you know the context.)
7) I've learned my lesson. Just saying.

Once again, I pimp Torchwood season four. Thats not an insignificant thing to be happy for. I hate moving. I think i have told you before i would rather get shot somewhere vital rather than move again.
One of the reasons is just that fear about something happening to the cats. I really do get so damn stressed out over my cats, and i do worry something will happen to them in the confusion and with those workmen. They open doors they arent s'posed to, and they just arent as careful as i am. Even if friends help you move, its horrible and things happen.
With my rescue horses it similar concerns X 1000. Just getting them in and out of the trailer can be life or death struggle to them. They you have to settle them in new digs while they freak.
IM glad youre home Peaches, and im so glad everyone is ok. I hope its quiet enough and that you wont have to move again. My this spot be a good spot where you can be happy, and you kittys too.
I would offer you a nice peach cobbler if i lived closer. Or bring you a 6 pack of your favourite beer.

Everything must be this way
Everything must be this way, yeah
The Soft Parade has now begun
Listen to the engines hum
People out to have some fun

Leopard on my right, yeah

Girls with beads around their necks
Kiss the hunter of the green vest
Who has wrestled before
With lions in the night

Just remember that while certain rules do apply, when it comes to fashion and style, many of those rules are meant to be broken.
For instance: A woman's purse should always match her shoes. Complete and utter BULLSHIT! It says that you're looking at a woman who can't dress herself unless she wears Garanimals.
As a man you should wear styles you are comfortable in. If you feel like something just isn't you, it's going to show when you wear it. Example....bow ties or suspenders.
A man can look damn sexy in chinos, jeans, or a tux if they are comfortable in their own skin.

Even better(for me anyway) Gillespe mocks the mayor of Braddock PA, the poorest town in PA.
The mayor is a fuck up who spends more time on the national media circuit than in the town, which actually just lost a major hospital. So now all they have in the way of jobs is crack dealing and copper theft.
It's a shame too, it used to be a proud steel town, and he's trying to bring it back by going on any show that will have him, rather than you know, courting businesses.

I'm not so sure Lindsay Lohan is mentally ill, as much as a victim of bad parenting. I'm not one to assume parents are responsible when their kids have problems, but when you have a Dad who is a chronic alcoholic, a mom who goes out drinking and partying with her underage daughter, and both parents are possibly exploiting their kids' earning potential, things probably are not going to end well.
And I do know that in many cases parents do their best, and kids mess up, but the Lohans, yuch.

If both parents are alcoholics, there is a good chance the kids will be. There is a school of thought out there that says alcoholism is genetic, and if that is the case, Lindsay had a huge shot at being an alcoholic since her father is, and her mother probably is.

The A/C: I called my roommates, who called the landlord, who called a tech, who found the whole unit was clogged with pet fur and that's why the compressor stopped.
I feel really bad about inconveniencing people and costing them money to fix something that stupid, even though it's not really my fault.

let's not be hasty here, I wouldn't go as far as to say beautiful
What I mean is: on the news a couple weeks ago, they were reporting the murder of a young woman by her nutso boyfriend. And it was all, "she was so beautiful and so sweet and so popular and so beautiful and so smart and so beautiful and had so much going for her so it's so sad." So what about the ugly, unpleasant underachievers who die at a young age? What about the screw-ups? A lot of people "find themselves" later on. I think it's more tragic when it's one of those people who die too soon. They never had a chance to fix their lives.

AC filters used to be $0.69 and almost-but-not-quite useless -- they only screened out dead bugs, cat hair, and other largish items and needed to be changed monthly. So most of the tores discontinued them and got $6 quarterly filters that start to take out some of the more egregious dust -- or $12 quarterly filters that take out the pollen and other crap......but they keep getting clogged monthly with dead bugs, cat hair, and largish items.
Solution is obvious -- prefilter with a cheap filter that you change monthly, main filter changes quarterly. You may have to Amazon the prefilters, 'cause HD and Lowe's don't have 'em any more.

Well, obviously geniuses aren't normal people. I violated one of my own pet peeves there by abusing the word "normal". What I meant was that they lived relatively healthy lifestyles, though Mozart might have overworked himself (by necessity) contributing to his death. They weren't haunted by their demons.
But this "correlation between genius IQ and mental disorders like bipolar" is pure bullshit unless you are prepared to cite significant research demonstrating such. Geniuses might be more "Aspergery" than the rest of us, but that's about it.

School pupils with low exam grades also had an increased risk of developing bipolar disorder later in life.
Obviously because they are tormented by their talents. Or because psychiatrists might not really understand the phenomena they are studying well enough yet, or because self-reported "conditions" such as bipolar disorder are unreliable.
For every Norbert Wiener (who was strange, but not necessarily mentally ill), there are enough Gauss's, Eulers, Riemanns, Feynmans, Einsteins, Neumanns, etc. etc. to convince me that true genius-level IQ is uncorrelated with madness. Turning to the arts, where genius is more subjective, I don't see where madness comes into play until recent times: Gogol (?), van Gogh (?) for example. Chaucer, Dante, Shakepeare functioned in worlds much less accepting of oddity than our own. But we are to accept the narrative of the tortured artist (invented by the Romantics) as Gospel. Not buying it.

If you plunk 'em in the dishwasher, then, you're naturally looking at what will get 'em clean v. what will age the rubber. And that leans towards various effective cleaners (e.g. PineSol). The only caveat is that dishwashers' main seals assume that water can be flailing around inside but never rise above a certain level near the door -- which means that any foam will almost certainly bypass the main seal and look like your dishwasher is leaking like crazy.
Regular dishwasher detergent requires a certain temperature to work properly. The temperature goes against the insulators' life, but does a decent job of getting things clean. "Rinse and Hold" cycles with alternative detergents may be a better bet, however, because they seldom get to the heat that ages the insulators.

As I had tried to post in response to this at PJM:
3. cthulhu Your comment is awaiting moderation.“Boehner did not announce the collapse in talks until the stock market closed. If there is no more movement over the weekend, expect a massive sell off on Wall Street.”
Depends on the time horizon, and the specific companies involved.
As Deninger notes at http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=190550 — there would be an almost immediate contraction of the GDP by about 15% (technically a depression)Â….however, this could be followed in the 18-month range by a laissez faire rebound as malinvestments are reformulated in productive ways — much like the “forgotten depression of 1920″ ( http://mises.org/daily/3788 ).
Any crony capitalism companies currently supported by the taxpayer dime (GM, GE, Chrysler, banks, etc.) might not see a clear path to that future, and would likely get hammered in the market. Other companies might get a boost from the prospect of excessive regulation and government meddling being peeled away (oil companies, WalMart, Boeing, drug companies, healthcareÂ…).
Of course, the one sure thing to happen on Monday is — as JP Morgan famously responded when a reporter pestered him for a forecast on the market — “it will fluctuate.”

Funny, one of my friends read the blog cause I was trying to figure out how the tone changed over the time I've been here. Oddly enough, he has a law degree and a PHD in poly sci and he thinks that the blog has been infiltrated by what he describes as "mean spirited libs". He claims he knows there is an army out there making sure to disrupt conservative blogs. Fascinating theory, maybe he'll prove it in his next book. In the meanwhile, he's going to keep watching here.

I'm really not sure what I think. He's an independent like myself. A growing majority cause we don't like anything the libs, dems, republcians or conservatives are selling. Oddly enough though there is an awful lot of whispering going on about ron paul. Would be funny if he ends up the next president and not even running on the republican line.

Because screeching leftists are so hard to detect. If you've actually found one that can pretend to play for the right without revealing herimself, that person will be on the right shortly, or deal with the cognitive dissonance that comes with believing one thing, and living another.
Based on the JD and Poly"Sci",she/ he won't be an easy win, but reality can't be faked.

There's real information there at this point, since the entire NYSE is either fear-based or .gov dependent at this point. The "fun" is waking up early on Monday just to see who gets the beating in early trading. The "sad" is when you see that the beatings are benevolent and shared, such that everyone ('cept GE and the other privileged few) receives the switch. Not too hard, though - just a reminder.

How do you clobber a lefty...you say the truth...lefty's can't respond to that.
They will pummel you with their fists, yet they cannot speak to you, because thats how lefty's promote their view...by force. Logic and reason are foreign to them..proven by world history..PROVEN BY WORLD HISTORY!! Why do we tolerate the lefty then?

And there's the whole of it, in a nutshell. We have the history of the 20th century that tells us how any collectivist, or even a semi-collectivist society ends up, yet we have people here at home that think it's not been done right, if only they'd been given a chance, et. al.
I saw the philosophical difference defined awhile back (source not remembered - it doesn't really matter) as how each side defines liberty. The Left defines liberty as a positive thing, that you can do this and that, and the possibilities are endless, if only in theory. The right defines liberty in what another (be they an individual, or even the entire government) cannot ever do to you, or force you to do.
G'night, out.

How long before the media hints at a possible connection between the VRWC propaganda of Murdoch and this guy? I'm betting by Monday they'll have some tenuous excuse that the "News of the World" was sold near this his house, which obviously lead to his actions--duh!

When I was just over 21, I went to Vegas. My husband, sister, brother-in-law bought tickets to a "big show". Three drink minimum. They all came at once, slammed them down on the table by the cocktail waitress, who, in all probability gave us up for "non-tippers" being so young. It was not pleasant, and the cocktails were warm by the time we got through them.

I thought I was a little bored lately. Yesterday we had all the kids over for a birthday party. My baby girl turned 27, 1/3 of the way to 81. Kids, grandkids. Smacking golf balls in the yard with my grandson in 105 deg heat. Reading alphabet books to my 3 year old granddaughter. Discussing trucks and turbine engines with the boys. And what the hell is the difference between water hoses with the girls (trickier than I thought).
Nah, I just thought I was bored.
