— Open Blogger Happy New Year Moron Nation! I'm sure some of you are still draggin' from last night's festivities and some of you are still going! Regardless, it's time for the first ONT of 2011!

I'm sure many of you morons are nursing a hangover right about now. Here's 8 myths and truths of hangover cures.
A little Cat New Year's Eve music to get the ONT started!

Now that we have started 2011, let's test your memory about stuff that occurred in 2010. The 2010 Quiz.

And here's a pretty cool summary of 2010 in graphical format.
Here's some funny predictions for 2011 from Cagle Post. I'm sure we can come up with some more of our own to add.
• Lady Gaga wears a tinfoil dress to an NBA playoff game and spontaneously combusts during the pre-game laser show.• Oprah buys Rhode Island and turns it into a gay theme park.
• Gov. Jerry Brown promises to focus less on the vast spaceship that is Earth and more on the long- term parking shuttle that is California.
This is the greatest aerial footage ever taken in the Iraq war! Make sure your audio is on!
Now, I hope none of you morons/ettes had too much to drink and dabbled in biohacking. This is pretty freaky deaky. h/t Ed Anger.
This big speech from Dennis Miller from his recent HBO special is just buckets of awesome.
Looks like Chris Christie is moving up the political food chain. You know you are a major threat to liberals when MoveOn dot org targets you. Haha, MoveOn dot org creates a WheresChristie dot com web site to track Chris Christie

Haha. It would seem Keef Olberdouche has made the 2010 list of Celebs Who Are Supposedly Bad In The Sack! Way to go Keef!!
Global Warming Update. The 97% “Consensus” is only 75 Self-Selected Climatologists.
close examination of the source of the claimed 97% consensus reveals that it comes from a non-peer reviewed article describing an online poll in which a total of only 79 climate scientists chose to participate. Of the 79 self-selected climate scientists, 75 agreed with the notion of AGW. Thus, we find climate scientists once again using dubious statistical techniques to deceive the public that there is a 97% scientific consensus on man-made global warming;

North practices to seize 5 border islands: Report
Its more saber-rattling in an attempt to extort more money and food aid, nothing more. Yet the South Koreans still have to consider the possibility that the North would try something this darling.
And here's something to chuckle at: The paper said that the NorthÂ’s special forces now number more than 200,000 men, an increase of 20,000 compared to 2008.
umm...I'll bet that these "special forces" are standard army troops fed just a bit better and have a little more specialty training than the regulars. Merely making the "special forces" bigger doesn't necessarily make them more effective - in fact, it's the opposite if the standards for joining said special forces are diminished. Remember when Kerry wanted to arbitrarily grow the size of US Special Forces during the 2004 campaign? Same principle - quality over quantity.

When I was little, it was Greatest Generation all channels, all the time. They accomplished some very big things, and some of them were lily-livered users. Some were ticket-punching opportunists. Apparently a lot of them voted left-wing democrat for a lifetime, and the GI Bill beneficiaries who hung on to become full professors built the game-show commie circus we call college today. When the greatest generation were only middle-aged, and talking about each other, they were pretty much just the crooked timber of humanity. As they die off, we confer a degree of godhood upon them.
Just as I would never want to be judged by the actions of millions of people who accidentally ended up the same age as I am, the really good guys in WWII realized all too well that some of their compatriots were nothing to be proud of. So, as icons go, give me the woman with nine fingers, every time.

n. Slang term derived from the Freight or Chow wagons used in the late 19th century. These were often the last wagons in a wagon train, making them the least favorable to drive due to the dust, waste, and debris from the front of the train.
When used as in insult it refers to one's lack of intelligence, implying the insultee is capable of no more than operating a Chow wagon.

Two great things about being mid-40s:
1) You're not afraid to tell a pretty girl that she's pretty, because you know you aren't getting any anyway, which is kind of liberating.
2) Thus, that prettiness has no effect on you, so you'll follow up with, "But don't think that means I'll take bullshit from you."
It's a damn shame that attractive women weren't this un-intimidating to me when I could have used it.

Well, first, it's not so much long division as division based primarily on girth.

Really?
I just saw a commercial with a bunch of feminists yelling about how women make only 77 cents on the dollar to what men make and how "Women are not worth less!"
Okay, I might piss off my own gender but there are a couple of things I'd like to say:
Women are often denied promotions because they are unwilling to work the same hours as a man and are less apt to relocate for an opportunity than is a man. AND, men often work in high-risk positions which carry higher pay i.e., crabbing/fishing, lumber, heavy equipment operator, railroad engineers, etc which lead to managing others doing those same jobs.
I work in one of the most male-dominated industries around and until about five years ago, the executive offices were utterly absent any female representation. It is often the most sexist place you can imagine HOWEVER a fucking piece of legislation would not have solved the problem any more than "Affirmative Action" solved racism. It would simply have led the jackasses in the office to automatically diminish any accomplishment of a female as being part of the "quota". Time, hard work, patience and determination are what make the difference where it counts. In most circumstances, however, I would venture that it's not a matter of He vs She, but a matter of skills and the numbers of hours in the office.
Hmmm. I wonder what those same women would say about the gals who choose to make a living wearing orange dolphin shorts or modeling swimsuits.

Since women tend to leave or interrupt careers for child raising, its a natural consequence of less time in harness total or being further down the ranks. Twenty year old men make less than thirty year old men, but its not due to prejudice.

Speaking of nurses in scrubs, a friend of mine had a portrait picture taken during WWII. Yes, she is now an old woman. That portrait was used for the 50th celebration of the Navy Nurses. She was a gorgeous young woman in crisp white uniform and cap wearing a jet black cape trimmed in scarlet with scarlet on the inside of the cape.
I am going to recommend she contact a reputable company to reproduce it and sell it on the internet with a portion going to one of the many charities she supports. She is a classy lady who would love to do something that would help the world after she is gone..

The way people perceive accents is funny sometimes. I live in downstate Illinois, and I go up to Arlington for the Arlington Million every year. I was talking to a gal from Chicago one year and she asked me if I was from the south.
I said, "Yeah. About two hours south of here."

Yep. If I go to Kentucky for the races or to Texas/Oklahoma/Missouri to visit relatives, they all think I speak like a yankee. Yet in Chicago, I sound like I'm from Tennessee.

I demand tumbleweeds, cacti, cowboys, and giant hats.
There's a character in one of the Phoenix Wright games (which are Japanese), who is obsessed with Texas and thinks he's a cowboy and is basically a silly charicature of every Texan stereotype you can think of. And whenever somebody does something he doesn't like, he says "They shoot you for that in Texas!" And I always think "... I wish."

On the 97% "consensus" being a poll with 79 entries, 75 agreeing... nobody else sees it?
75/79 = 97% ... Really? Wanna bet? Fine, pull out the calculator program and that comes to .949 or 94.9%... so 95% if you round up.

On the consensus thing one should remember that the UN never said anything about "consensus" to begin with. One of the "climate deniers" sent a letter to the UN and asked about the number of "peer reviewers" and the consensus and they sent a letter back stating they they had never made that claim to begin with. It was a total fabrication by the MFM. He published the letter at his site.

Stimulus bonds fell far short of goal
[ . . . ]
Expiring on Friday, the program with an unwieldy name - Recovery Zone Facility Bonds - fell far short of the expectations set by Congress and provides an example of how difficult it is to create effective economic stimulus.
[ . . . ]
So why didn't the program gain more traction?
One possibility is that lower interest rates don't spur the economy when interest rates are as low as they are now.
"The Fed can say what it wants. It's not the cost of money that matters," economist Joel Naroff said.
Weak commercial real estate markets were another problem. "You still had to have a project," said Alan Greenberger, a deputy mayor of Philadelphia. "There's plenty of places in the country that didn't have projects.
"You had to have an applicant that was already credit-worthy," and the project had to meet the financing deadline of Dec. 31, he said.
[ . . . ]
President Obama signed the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 in February of that year, but it was a year before local authorities could begin marketing it. That left little time to complete deals.
--------
It looks like this was more about buying votes than creating "shovel ready" jobs.
The bond program was allocated $15 billion dollars, but:
"Nationwide, companies borrowed just $1.6 billion under the locally administered program through November, according to the Bond Buyer, a trade publication."
Obama just double downed on promising more jobs. Anybody want to bet on how successful he'll be?

The IRS refusing to accept tax returns filed on time? As if they can't handle holding the returns themselves until their computers are "reprogrammed" for what stays the same ...
"The majority of taxpayers will be able to fill out their tax returns and file them as they normally do," said IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman in a statement. "The IRS will work through the holidays and into the New Year to get our systems reprogrammed and ensure taxpayers have a smooth tax season." The delay affects both paper and electronic filers who itemize deductions on Form 1040 Schedule A.
