Overnight Thread-TGIF Edition [CDR M]
— Open Blogger

Evening Moron Nation! Another crappy week put to bed. I'm still in a funk from the Afghanistan announcement. Some interesting stuff has come out though. For example, take this article from The Atlantic, Gates Beats Out Petraeus In Fight Over Afghanistan Withdrawal.

The initial set of Afghan discussions had been marred by a series of leaks that infuriated Obama and led the president to accuse his military advisers of trying to box him in politically. Earlier this year, as the administration began to gear up for the withdrawal debate, Gates and National Security Adviser Tom Donilon sent out word informally that any leaks would be interpreted by the president as insubordination and as an attempt to improperly influence public opinion.

My, my. Nice to see the President taking leaks seriously. Well, at least when it's in HIS best interest. Never mind all the other leaks coming out about everything else (like the Bin Laden raid) that have actually had a negative impact on National Security. Those are OK 'cuz you know we gotta tell everyone that you know who was teh man, teh one to take down Bin Laden. I don't recall ever hearing President Bush do something like this, you know, sending out word that talking out of school will be seen as insubordinate. Don't get me wrong, it is and shouldn't be done, but if we are gonna have some standards, then let's apply it equally across the board. Of course, if he did that, Joe Biden would be out of a job. Ok, how about a little war pron then? Here is some video of some Apaches forward deployed doin' what they do best. Puttin' 30 mike-mike on target.

According to Mr. Farrakhan, The White Man Made Obama Bomb Libya. Um, Obama is the President no? He's doing this all on his own there Louis unless you are implying that he is being manipulated by someone say like George Soros? Farrakhan's little rant would probably fit right into this montage of scenes from Undercover Brother.

Well, the video for Weird Al's latest song is finally out. It's his take on Lady Gaga and it's pretty funny. Not as good as Amish Paradise though but pretty entertaining.

Hopefully, Lady Gaga is on the way out in terms of popularity. Her album sales are plummeting fast and I think her schtick is getting pretty old.

I know Kratos has been on cloud nine since Tuesday when this trailer for Footloose came out. I heard he has already started a line for the first showing of it in PA. I keed Kratos, I keed! Seriously though, it looks like a direct remake and the only thing missing is Kenny Loggins music. Looks lame.

A very strange and sad story and a possible glimpse into the future of our own Obamacare. Woman Has Chest Pains And Is Pronounced Dead But Wakes Up At Her Funeral Only To Die 12 Minutes Later. Only in Russia. For now.

I call BS on this. Someone is selling a candle that smells like the NY Times. Here is the description:
The scent of the candle is newsy, with hints of guaiacwood, cedar, musk, and spice. Characterized by "a powdery note and velvet nuance," the scent is meant to mimic the aroma of black ink on newsprint.
I think it should probably smell like something else if it was going to be accurate. The kicker, it costs $65.00!! Wouldn't it be cheaper to like buy the actual paper and just leave it out?

Heh. The 12 Craziest Swimsuits. Poor Ariel. She's about to be a snack.

This could come in handy when the apocalypse is upon us and you are out of ammo and are back to using a bow and arrow to survive. 7 Deadliest Arrow Poisons On Earth.

It only takes 150 micrograms of poison from P. bicolor to kill an adult human, while the more toxic P. terribilis has caused fatalities just through people touching it. It is so toxic that chickens and dogs can die if they have contact with paper towel that has in turn been in contact with the frog. A single P. terribilis frog contains enough venom to kill 10,000 mice or two bull elephants! To this day, tribes found in western Colombia, such as the Noanamá Chocó and Emberá Chocó, use the poison extracted from these frogs. Interestingly, in captivity all dart frogs loose their toxicity; they need chemicals, most likely from food found in the wild, to remain poisonous.

Probably the best orange juice commercial ever. Period. Hands down. Two bits up!

Interesting. The LA Times rejoices that Census data reveals that "non-traditional" households are on the rise in CA. They are giddy with the rise in number of gay families but kinda gloss over the fact that the majority of the rise in "non-traditional" households is more due to the fact that there are more single parent families out there and those tend to be poorer and statistics show that those children are more likely to end up involved in criminal acts. How is that good for the children?

Some kick ass planes in this picture. Which one would you choose? I think I'm partial to the P-38.

That's all I got for tonight. Enjoy.

The burkini has to be the most cumbersome swimsuit ever made for casual swiming.  I usually wear a t-shirt when I swim to protect my torso more from the ravages of the sun, but the burkini is ridiculous.  It would have been easier for Allah to just ban women from swimming if they have to cover up that much to enjoy that activity.

30 A-10. The only plane that matters. It's probably the last of its kind, too, since I expect drones will take over the ground-attack role quite soon. It's one of the most dangerous air missions, so it makes sense to use pilotless aircraft, and the Air Force fighter plane mafia won't fight to keep it.

He graduated from my town back in the 60's, so he gets a lot of play here. 88 77 So Gay marriage passes in NY.  What is the point in having separate parties if the GOP just caves on the biggest social issue?

It would have been defeated soundly had it been put up to popular referendum.  But the Left has learned its lesson about risking giving the little people a voice in their own affairs.

I heard there had been three holdout GOP senators and that it would only have taken one to cave in order to ram this through.  I just laughed and said just one?  I'll be disappointed if all three of them don't bend over, so to speak.

At least now there'll be something to bury the ONT with.

Me too!  Her face is a big old mess!  She had lip implants/injections that went awry, and everything is so fricking tight, it's changed her face!  She never was a great beauty, but now she's butt ugly!  I guess she works out like a maniac, and she has a nice body, but her face!

Michelle Obama: "Fortunately We Have Help From The Media"

In an interview with CNN, First Lady Michelle Obama thanks the media for their "support" and "kindness."

CNN reporter: "How's the family ready for this [the election]? It's going to be quite vicious, isn't it? How do you prepare for that?"

First Lady Michelle Obama: "You know, it's Â… we're ready, you know. Our children, you know, could care less about what we're doing. We work hard to do that. Fortunately we have help from the media. I have to say this: I'm very grateful for the support and kindness that we've gotten. People have respected their privacy and in that way, I think, you know, no matter what people may feel about my husband's policies or what have you, they care about children and that's been good to see."

A couple of years ago the NYT did a fawning story on some bored NY housewives demanding more draconian environmental laws.

They were demanding the whole panoply of enviro-crud - but specifically demanding "buy local".

The story had a picture of one of their meetings, where around the living room you could say the environmentally conscious group had been drinking bottled water. Italian, imported, bottled water.

Nickelodeon turns into Nick at Night after like 9 pm or so.   If you don't know what that is exactly, its offshoot is TV land.  When I was a kid they'd show like Laugh-in and The Monkees and like Andy Griffith and Leave it to Beaver.  It think a lot of it now is more 90's sitcoms like Roseanne, and also The George Lopez Show for some reason.

One thing that really doomed Transformers 2 was that Michael Bay not only directed the movie, he also wrote a good deal of it (this was during the Writer's strike).

I guess as long as Bay is only directing the film and didn't also contribute towards the writing, the 3rd Transformers installment may be passable as a popcorn flick.

Dear Womenz,

If you tat the top of your foot, you can never wear heels and be taken seriously.  In fact, you'll never get a job that pays more than $12/hour.  Why?  Because everyone that sees it will know, immediately, that you're a self-absorbed dumbass.

Pro-Tip for the womenz:  do NOT tat the top of your feet.  Ever.  We know how you get in Vegas after you've had a few mojitos.  Do NOT do this.  Trust me.

367 It's Bell Canada telephone's TV service, CDR M, with (from what I understand from the forum and my first little look around) a Motorola PVR.

I've got a DVR hooked up to it okay and I'm copying most items onto discs okay, but a few of the shows that aren't like first-run movies from HBO or the like but are just e.g. the UK Antiques Roadshow episodes are coming up "copy protected" (although 90% of the episodes have been fine!) so I wondered about getting them copied to something like a hard drive so I could watch them on the p.c. and deleting them from the PVR.

I'll have to check out your specific link about it. Thanks.

CCP're reply was fucking hilarious though

Dear concerned citizens of New Eden

This week has seen quite a controversy unfold. In almost the same instant as we deployed Incarna – which by the way is one of our more smooth and successful expansions, not to mention absolutely gorgeous – an internal newsletter with rather controversial topics addressed leaked out. To further compound the confusion there was a clear and rather large gap in virtual goods pricing expectation and reality with a large segment of the community. I‘m going to address both these issues right here.

Fearless

Fearless is one of our company values. It‘s also the name of an internal newsletter that has been designed and developed specifically to catalyze discussions on controversial topics. One of the biggest elephants in the room these days, not just for EVE but for the gaming industry as a whole, is virtual goods sales and microtransactions.

Therefore we dedicated an entire issue to exactly that topic. It‘s worth mentioning that the topic of the issue was “Greed is good?” as a way to ask a question that would then be debated back and forth and often exaggerated purposefully to draw contrasts and make points. The result of that is now widely available on the internet.

The opinions and views expressed in Fearless are just that; opinions and views. They are not CCP policy nor are they a reliable source of CCP views as a company. The employees who submitted articles to that newsletter did exactly what they were asked to do, write about theories and opinions from an exaggerated stand.

While it‘s perfectly fine to disagree and attack CCP over policies or actions we take, we think it‘s not cool how individuals that work here have been called out and dragged through the mud due to something they wrote in the internal company newsletter. Seriously, these people were doing their jobs and do not deserve the hate and shitstorm being pointed at them.

Pricing structure

People have been shocked by the price range in the NeX store, but you should remember that we are talking about clothes. Look at the clothes you are currently wearing in real life. Do you have any specific brands? Did you choose it because it was better quality than a no-name brand? Assume for a short while that you are wearing a pair of $1,000 jeans from some exclusive Japanese boutique shop. Why would you want to wear a pair of $1,000 jeans when you can get perfectly similar jeans for under $50? What do other people think about you when they see you wearing them? For some you will look like the sad culmination of vainness while others will admire you and think you are the coolest thing since sliced bread. Whichever it is, it is clear that by wearing clothes you are expressing yourself and that the price is one of the many dimensions that clothes possess to do that in addition to style and fit. You donÂ’t need to buy expensive clothes. In fact you donÂ’t need to buy any clothes. Whatever you choose to do reflects what you are and what you want others to think you are.

We will gradually introduce items at other price points, definitely lower and probably higher than what‘s in the store today. We hope you enjoy them and are as passionate about them as you are of the current items that are for sale.

I hope I‘ve addressed your concerns and cleared up a lot of the issues you‘re having. We‘ll continue monitoring the forums and other communications channels and pick up and reply if there are concerns not covered by this blog.

Thanks,

Arnar Hrafn Gylfason

388 This is what came up, chemjeff, when I Googled for "melatonin sunbathing" wondering if it applied to your comment--a pdf link page about...

Effects of Sunbathing on Insomnia, Behavioural Disturbance and Serum Melatonin Level     $0.00
Authors:  (Keiko Ikemoto, Department of Neuropsychiatry, Fukushima Medical University School of Medicine, Fukushima, Japan)

Abstract:
It has been suggested that sunbathing may increase the amplitude of the sleep-wake rhythm and nocturnal serum melatonin secretion, and have effects on insomnia as well. A case report of a patients with epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and severe mental and intellectual disabilities (SMID) with severe behavioral disturbance is presented, in which the sleep-wake-cycle (SWC) was markedly improved by a sunbathing for seven months. The schedule included a sunbathing for 30 minutes in the morning, and a walk with a sunbathing for 10~30 minutes in the afternoon. Reduction of frequency of excitement and pyrexia was also observed, and the latter effect persisted for more than six months after the completion of this schedule. In the present case, being similar to the effects of light therapy for insomnia in elderly persons, low level of nocturnal melatonin level exhibited a tendency toward normalization. These findings show that a sunbathing is an effective and simple method for the treatment of insomnia and behavioral disturbance associated with severe mental retardation. The effects of light therapy and / or a sunbathing on insomnia and serum melatonin level, particularly in individuals with brain damages, are reviewed based on the literatures.

It really depends on what you want, what you need and what's available via the various services.  Is the place wired for DSL high speed internet?  Are going for a package or just TV service?

I just dumped DISH and a local phone company for a cable package.  My DSL speed doubled, my channel selection is the same, and phone service is the same.  Total cost reduction of $60 per month.

No more "searching for sat" every time a cloud goes by.

Not only does your planet have to be the right size and temperature, and have a large moon to maintain tidal cycles, but you have to have a big old gas giant to watch your back. Habitable planets are probably one in a million. On the other hand there are billions of chances, so there you go.

421 Everyone loves to brag about their smart pet. No one ever acknowledges that the IQ curve must apply to pets too, with at least half of them being as stupid as a pet rock. Well I'm here to tell you about one that must fall into the bottom twentieth percentile. My wife picked him out and I must say that her overall track record on pet selection, to choose a phrase, sucks donkey balls.

Her very first pet was a poodle. I think it was an escapee from the insane asylum but the details are a bit cloudy. He finally bit the dust when he answered that age old question -- what happens when you chase that car and you actually catch it?  Answer -- poodle roadkill. Anyhow, this meant that she had a soft spot in her head heart for poodles.

So we had that debate so familiar to married couples.

Wife -- I want a poodle.
Me -- We don't need another pet and they are too expensive.
Wife -- Isn't he cute? Plus he was on sale.
Me -- Fuck.
Wife -- Not a chance. For the next year he will need to be by my side constantly and I don't want him to develop bad habits.

Did I mention that this dog is dumb? Well, that is covered in Part II which may never happen if I don't get some encouragement from the ONT, or least not too many digital empty beer bottles thrown at me.

I'm not sure... I think I've only seen the Unrated, since I didn't see Taken in the theatre.  Might have watched the Theatrical at some point.  That film gets way too much play in my house.

438 The first item, about leaks and Obama not wanting to get politically blocked in by them. Does anyone recall the dirtiest underhanded politically motivated leak ever? The bullshit "leak" about Iran's nuclear program the one that said Iran's program had been shut down.

Of course the real report was that Iran was working away full steam but was classified so everyone who knew the truth had to stay silent while Bush got accused of saber rattling and unprovoked escalation of our ongoing rivalry with Iran.

I don't blame Obama for wanting to avoid that. His people know just how that shit works.

467 Okay, everyone didn't throw shit at me so I'm on for Part II -- We have a dumb dog

I'll try and compile a list of his idiocy. First is his excellent understanding of the command 'come here'. Generally speaking, a pet rock has better odds of obeying. But to capture this dog's qualities best, you need two people in the room. When you call him, he invariably goes to the other person. Yep, he is just like that Indian in Little Big Man that does everything backwards or opposite. Boy oh boy, imagine the chaos when there are three or more folks present. He runs to everyone BUT the person that calls him.

Then there is his solid understanding of the game fetch. You had better be on your fetch A game because he brings teh stupid with his. You'll be doing a lot more fetching than he will. He can't find a thrown item if your range is over 4 feet. Blind AND stupid is his motto I'm pretty sure.

Once when he was lying there asleep he did one of his random 'yips' and I commented that his two brain cells had bumped into each other, gave him a thought, and scared the shit out of him.

Did I mention what a superior guard dog he is? No? There's a reason or two for this. Whenever someone cranks their car in the next county, he's on it. Well, as long as it's before dark because that would be overtime. He can bark and growl at that cranky car for a good solid hour, but I'm also sure that if it actually drove by he could not catch it. Because it is more than 4 feet away. But never fear, because if a stranger broke into the house he would insist on being petted first before they could steal everything. His definition of stranger is easy -- anyone that comes in from outside that he hasn't seen in the last 5 minutes.

His only real area of expertise is food. He can find a molecule of food buried in an inch of concrete. He will lick his way in. He will lick that spot until his tongues bleeds and you drag him away from it. Of course as soon as you let go he's back on the job. "Listen up you puny humans that molecule is mine and I'm getting it. Why do you keep using that word 'No'? It means nothing to me."

On the brighter side, the dog hates me. So that's something.

I think the dog we had when I was kid matched yours for stupidity. He would chase birds and never look where he was going, can't tell you the number of times I watched him run full bore into the house or a tree.
Our well casing was about three feet in diameter and stood about a foot and a half above ground level, this was his favorite place to sit. He would sit on that rain or shine. We were having a massive thunderstorm once and there sat our dog, just getting soaked. I called my dad over to window to look at our stupid dog just in time for a lightening strike somewhere very close by, our dog yelped then jumped straight up, must have got a little jolt, then right back up there he went in the pouring rain.
Yep, our dog was a moron.

And this is the poem from father to son:

Tiny Angel rest your wings

sit with me for awhile.

How I long to hold your hand,

And see your tender smile.

Tiny Angel, look at me,

I want this image clear....

That I will forget your precious face

Is my biggest fear.

Tiny Angel can you tell me,

Why you have gone away?

You weren't here for very long....

Why is it, you couldn't stay?

Tiny Angel shook his head,

"These things I do not know....

But I do know that you love me,

And that I love you so.

-- Kenneth Mair

What we have to remember is that the liberals NEVER give up or quit when it comes to furthering their agenda no matter how stupid or evil it may be.  Being on the government dole with lots of free time and no performance appraisal mechanism certainly helps them out.
I think the public schools should offer a fifth optional year for political indoctrination.  That would at least be honest.

"It hit the ground so hard, it cracked the palate, it was about a two-inch crack," Rick Johnson, the shelter's executive director, tells PEOPLEPets.com. "Takes a pretty good force to do that."

I have decided to sttick to FF3.6.18 until someone tells me any later fersion is bulletproof.  I accepted the hype for FF4 and regretted it immensely.  It was fairly easy to regress to 3.6 but it wasted a lot of time I could have used to be reading AoS .

549 From fire damaged TX:

Linda and Steve Shidler lost everything in the wildfire that swept through Grimes County this week — their mobile home, their belongings and their pets. Everything but a wooden ladder they found resting against a singed basketball hoop in their yard.

And they lost that as well Friday, to burglars while they were out shopping for supplies at Walmart.

So the first order of business for the Shidlers after being allowed back to their property for the first time in nearly a week on Friday was to construct a makeshift sign to hang on their gate warning looters to keep out.

"This is all we have left," Linda Shidler said. "I really did not need that today."

553 Krauthammer Calls ObamaÂ’s ICE Memo On Immigration Outright Lawlessness”, ICE Union President Warns Americans To “Brace Themselves For WhatÂ’s Coming”

“This is outright lawlessness on part of the administration. Whatever the politics of this, we do have a constitution and under it the legislator, the Congress, enacts the laws and the executive executes them, it doesn’t make them up,” Charles Krauthammer said on “Special Report.”

“The DREAM Act was rejected by Congress, it is now being enacted by the executive despite the expressed will of the Congress. That is lawless. It may not be an explicit executive order, it is an implicit one.”

On Wednesday, ICE Union president Chris Crane issued this statement:

“Any American concerned about immigration needs to brace themselves for whatÂ’s coming. This is just one of many new ICE policies in queue aimed at stopping the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws in the United States.  Unable to pass its immigration agenda through legislation, the Administration is now implementing it through agency policy.”

Crane continued: “ICE and the Administration have excluded our union and our agents from the entire process of developing policies, it was all kept secret from us, we found out from the newspapers.  ICE worked hand-in-hand with immigrants rights groups, but excluded its own officers.”

Also ignored by the press, was last yearÂ’s no confidence vote ICE agents gave Obama appointee, ICE director John Morton.

The National ICE Council represents about 7,000 agents and support staff.

This story is a local story but Drudge is carrying it as well.

YouÂ’ve heard of the Central Park Jogger Wilding, letÂ’s just call this the 5-Points wilding. 5-Points is an area in downtown Columbia with a lot of bars, nightclubs etc.

In any case this 18 year kid was “jogging” through there on the way home when he was set on by 8 black yoots. He was beaten so bad he is in the hospital going for brain surgery and other major “fixes”.

Notice how this liberal rag newspaper identifies every damn problem there is EXCEPT the attackers themselves. Imagine the outcry if this was a black teen who had been set upon by 8 white hooligans.

I am waiting to see what happens here. There is a law here in SC that severely punishes the attackers when more than 1 attack a single individual. It is the SC lynch law and in cases like this where severe injury is dealt it deals sever punishment.

(C) Any act of violence inflicted by a mob upon the body of another person, which results in serious bodily injury to the person, shall constitute the felony crime of assault and battery by mob in the second degree and, upon conviction, an offender shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than three years nor more than twenty-five years.

I want to see some 25 year sentences.
