A book that belongs on every conservative's shelf is Harvest of Sorrow, by Robert Conquest. He lays out the terror-famine in all its horror. How anyone could read that book and still call themselves Communist is beyond me.

Another important book is Malcolm Muggeridge's autobiography Chronicles of Wasted Time. Muggeridge was the Manchester Guardian's Moscow correspondent during the time of terror-famine. One story, which probably is apocryphal, is told about Conquest. It seems that his book Stalin's Secret War, about the show-trials and genocides carried out by Stalin was thoroughly denounced by the Western Left, to the point where by, the late 1980s, the book was out of print. After 1989, when Pravda started running excerpts from the book, Conquest's publisher came to him and inquired about a new edition; however, the new edition would have to have a new title, since the old title had had so many bad reviews. Conquest thought for a second, then said, "How about this for a title: I Was Right, You Fucking Fools."

Cronyism is as old a practice as prostitution....and is somewhat similar, in that it requires one to prostitute their natural desire for the best product or service, in favor of the product or service that your crony requires you to purchase/use.

Cronyism grows under burdensome regulations and rules, too.

The ObamaCare Waivers are a good recent example of this. ....Create an onerous new Law, that kills jobs......then issue waivers to that Law to your cronies. The common denominator in these waivers seems to be union jobs, which must be protected at all costs of course.
