OWS Is Almost Entirely Socialist/Marxist
— Ace

You might have guessed this. The outrage here is that the media refuses to report the facts accurately.

Given that the media is advising them in crafting a message that can (in theory) appeal to a broader segment of the population, that's no surprise.

The standard portrayal of the Wall Street protesters goes something like this: Ragtag group of unemployed young adults, venting often incoherent but overall legitimate populist outrage about economic inequality. But go down to the movementÂ’s headquarters, as I did this past weekend, and you see something far different.

It’s not just that knowledge of their “oppressors” -- the evil bankers -- is pretty thin, or that many of them are clearly college kids with nothing better to do than embrace the radical chic of “a cause.” I found a unifying and increasingly coherent ideology emerging among the protesters, which at its core has less to do with the evils of the banking business and more about the evils of capitalism -- and the need for a socialist revolution.

It’s not an overstatement to describe Zuccotti Park as New York’s Marxist epicenter. Flags with the iconic face of the Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara are everywhere; the only American flag I saw was hanging upside down. The “occupiers” openly refer to each other as “comrade,” and just about every piece of literature on offer (free or for sale) advocated socialism in the Marxist tradition as a cure-all for the inequalities of the American economic system.

Kevin D. Williamson finds the same:

IÂ’ve been spending as much time as I can down at Occupy Wall Street, listening to the speeches, reading the literature, talking to the organizers. HereÂ’s something to keep in mind: YouÂ’ll hear in a lot of the conservative media that this is some kind of socialist/communist enterprise piggybacking on a populist protest. In reality, it is much worse than even most of the conservative media is reporting.

Almost every organization present at OWS is explicitly communist or socialist. Almost every piece of literature being handed out is explicitly communist or socialist. I don’t mean half, and I don’t mean the overwhelming majority — I mean almost all of it. Yes, there are the usual union goons trying to figure out how to get OWS to do the bidding of the AFL-CIO and the Democratic party, and the usual smattering of New Age goo (the “Free Empathy” table) and po-mo Left wackiness (animal-rights nuts), the inevitable Let’s-Eradicate-Israel crowd (“Free Palestine, from the river to the sea!”). But, that being said, almost every organized enterprise and piece of printed material I have encountered has been socialist or communist. It’s been a long time since I saw anybody peddling books by Lenin. It’s been a long time since anybody told me the Ukrainians had it coming.

The media found the one or two racists in the Tea Party and made them the face of the movement; meanwhile, it finds the one or two people who are not avowedly Marxist and makes them the standard-bearer.

This is why lefties say the media is biased, by the way: Because the media refuses to report on "People's Movements" accurately.

They're correct in that. But the media is not airbrushing them out of the picture do to a rightwing bias, but due to a practical bias and a liberal one: The media wants liberalism to succeed, and may or may not be actually socialist but does not consider socialism viable as a political matter. So leftwing movements become "center-liberal" ones in the media's telling.

That is a kind of bias, but it's not a different bias or a new bias. It's the same liberal bias conservatives complain of all the time.

But I agree with the lefties: The media should report on such leftwing movements accurately. Not made all soft and cute (and standard liberal) for public consumption.

1 This is IT...The Great Socialist Communist Revolution...EPIC FAIL Comparing media coverage of the Tea Party versus the "Occupy" movement is too easy and not the real story. The Occupy movement is about chaos, destruction, occupy and take over. This rabble's preference is not the vote, but the violent disruption and hopeful overthrow of Western Civilization and The United States of America. Communist Party USA is in: "This is an exciting time! Thousands of mainly young people have been occupying Wall Street for three weeks already, and the “Occupy Movement” has spread to more than 200 other cities. On Oct. 6 the actions spread to our nation’s capital." You can feel the love...workers unite: "This movement, also known as the “99% movement,” is being hailed across the country. Movements and organizations are reaching out in solidarity. The AFL-CIO is opening union halls and offering other material assistance. Ordinary people are donating food, money and materials." But the ideologically and economically defeated Communists are pretty much broken. The Fathers of Marxism wouldn't be proud of these co-opted statements: "Of primary importance is linking it with the burgeoning fight for jobs and especially passage of the American Jobs Act." What a joke. The communist ideal of violent world-wide overthrow has been reduced to Obama's DOA Job-Killer Jobs Bill ? LOL...Down but not out, they aspire to "more progressive ends". "We can also play a role in offering more advanced programmatic ideas like nationalizing the banks and socialism." ...The tactics are still the same. Infiltrate leftists organizations and turn idealistic mush-for-brains bleeding hearts into committed Marxists. econus.blogspot.com

4 We saw this before.

Obama wrote a book, supposedly.

To the press, this was some proof of his erudition and intellect.

But what was actually in that book, or two, would have been anathema to a good number of those who voted for him.

Had anyone bothered to read it, or had the press accurately reported on any of it.

5 Unexpectedly?

It's not like anyone here is surprised by this.  That, however, is the trap.  Until the media is willing to call this how it is - or just run a live feed - the fence-sitters will never know just how stark their choice will be in 2012.

The soul of this nation is up for grabs.  Who is willing to answer the call?

Can anyone set up a live-stream with audio from the protest site?

10 The outrage here is that the media refuses to report the facts accurately. The danger here is that this is a warning on how the media is going to perform during the 2012 election cycle. People are saying that , "in 2008 the msm failed in their job to vet Obama. THIS TIME they'll have do work better or lose credibility." No. They don't care. They're ALL IN for Obama and it doesn't matter to them if they lose another 10% of their newspaper subscriptions. Obama will just bail them out in his 2nd term ("We need a strong, independent press! I want to say people would care, but the sting has been taken from the tail of communism.  People hear that term and think, "Oh, those Russian bad guys in the James Bond movies were communists, weren't they?  And those blacklisted celebs in Hollywood were accused of being communists, right?  Who cares?"

Mika's daddy:
I think it would be increasingly helpful if there was a movement to publish, worldwide, lists of who make, largely through speculation, enormous amounts of money almost instantly, and basically hide the fact from their social context. You know, how many Americans are really fully aware of how many other good people, letÂ’s say like Warren Buffett and others, who really donate a lot of their earnings to charities, to philanthropy? But how many more are there in the hedge funds, in the banks, in a variety of other places, who, on the basis of speculation, literally make millions of dollars that would take a century or two for the average person ever to make? IÂ’d like to see those lists. And they shouldnÂ’t be that difficult to produce.

This.

As evidence, here's an actual conversation I read on Facebook over the weekend referencing OccupyMN:

Person 1: What were they protesting?

Person 2: You'll have to google it to get all the details but to sum it up it was Occupy MN and Occupy Wall Street which are both organizations upset with politicians, stating that financial institutions repaid TARP money with small business owners funds and not enough available jobs in the US to sustain the people and the economy.

Person 3: This must be the new cool thing to do. People are protesting everywhere in the world. Hope something positive will come out of it.

I have now resolved to post every single YouTube video I've come across in the past 3 weeks to Facebook.  Hopefully it will cull some of the friends I could care less about.

The news media may cover this up, but hopefully Republicans won't.   I can see the campaign commercials now.   Clip 1:  Obama lauding the Occupy Wall Street protesters.   Next a montage of photographs from the protests with the words "socialist" and "communist" prominently featured, and video of screeching OWS speakers attacking capitalism and America and Israel.   Finally, Clip 2:  Obama continuing to laud the OWS protests.  Then, a voice over:  "Mr. President, whose side are you on?"   This sort of thing would be devastating, and I'm sure there are people in the Democratic Party who are smart enough to know that the President has gone out on a limb and dragged the Party with him.

Is Obama ready to institute a “bold” economic plan?

He could cancel all debt, public and private.  WhoÂ’s going to complain?  Not the 99%, so that leaves only the “Jew Bankers” in the remaining 1%.  He could declare all currency worthless overnight and only issue script for amount held by citizens in U.S. banks.  Once again, he could explain away the action as only hurting drug dealers, criminals and foreigners.

Coupled with a massive public works program fueled by a debt-free government, ObamaÂ’s popularity would soar with everyone who doesnÂ’t live off of the interest of their investments.  With the money clock reset to zero, Obama could raise entitlements and begin the process of spending the country into oblivion again, but the bills wouldnÂ’t come due for decades.

What would the rest of the world do?

Nothing.  A short period of bitching and moaning followed by acceptance and a hurried campaign to get back to normal.  No collection of navies will appear off our shores demanding payment, so ObamaÂ’s in the clear.

It all depends on how bad he wants to be reelected.

Posted by: Soona - Tearorrist at October 17, 2011 12:45 PM (5JUlA) Lemme quick say that what I think you mean here is that the SCOAMF wants and needs chaos in order to use it as a pretext for cracking down. Because, yes, Beck has been saying this for years - last year well before the Restoring Honor rally he said that the Tea Partiers were being set up, and to be very vigilant about not getting into confrontations. What it looks like is that they didn't get what they wanted out of the Tea Parties - they didn't respond well to the bating - and so now they have to create their own Potemkin chaos - stir up the lefties who will act on that eliminationist rhetoric and then they can crack down on the violence. Remember, they (the administration and MFM) did their best to paint the Tea Parties as "anti-government." If they can egg on the OWS'ers and then call them "anti-government," then Tea Parties will be in the same boat - all "anti-governmentness" is bad and violent and cannot be allowed.

From what I'm seeing and reading about the OWS, it may be them who start it.  It'll start out as a brick through a window, maybe a torching some more SUV's, then it will escalate to assaulting them or their family members, pipebombs, carbombs, and then finally they'll graduate up to full-on open war in the streets.  If they really have such a hard-on for violence, then lets settle this once and for all.  They keep asking for it to happen.

181 So, let's revisit a real movement, the Tea Party, back on The Mall in August 2010. http://pajamasmedia.com/?p=67154 Conclusion: The estimate widely used in the legacy media is not from an authoritative source, and it isn’t even consistent with itself: “full back to 3rd Street” is around 250,000 by Park Sevice methods, not a quarter of that. Many estimates, using different assumptions and different methods, arrived at numbers well into the hundreds of thousands. This is clearly consistent with the panoramic photo that we can source reliably. With everything above, and with several more estimates, I don’t think there is a plausible argument for any total attendance figure much less than 500,000 to 600,000. That is, nearly ten times the reported attendance. But they was all feeeelthy racists, and the MFM gave it cursory coverage. Now, turn your gimlet eye to the Bowel Movement. In our own sidebar last week, we were informed that the crowd waiting to buy a new iPhone 4S was larger than the Bowel Movement in Obama's pet Zuccotti Park. Clearly several hundred thousand were not waiting to buy a phone. This Bowel Movement is on the order of hundreds, not even thousands. Yet the MFM has been gushing about the BMs for weeks... because it is made out of whole cloth. http://bit.ly/plpp3Z Newsbusters: The Occupy Wall Street protestors have received overwhelmingly positive coverage from the Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) news networks, as they used their airtime to publicize and promote the aggressively leftist movement. In just the first eleven days of October, ABC, CBS and NBC flooded their morning and evening newscasts with a whopping 33 full stories or interview segments on the protesters. This was a far cry from the greeting the Tea Party received from the Big Three as that conservative protest movement was initially ignored (only 13 total stories in all of 2009) and then reviled.

The JEF and his campaign have decided to make it a very central theme of the reelection effort, and will keep refining the message and how it gets boomed out from The Man Between The Teleprompters With His Chin Going Right To Left.

The media will keep refining the way it gets presented, so that by next summer it will be like the TV wall in Orwell's 1984.

They must be cooking up ways in all the big and secondary cities all across the country, to get central-city space that somehow skirts the public-parks-space issues seen in Chicago and Boston, so that the overnight camp-outs can happen, free from police action.  They need this to be far-reaching, geographically.  It won't play the way they want if it is just a New Yawk thing.

It is extremely dangerous because there are so many clever minds working on it, to figure a way to make it work for them and their cause, that being to retain the White House, to boost the Senate majority to be absolutely filibuster-proof, and to regain the House majority.  These people are looking to do what the Soviets did in 1917.

It just might work for them.  The electorate is a mess of mindless stupidity, with a ridiculously short attention span, and addicted to free stuff.

Could a Robespierre with a Committee of Public Safety emerge?  It ain't unthinkable.

I am ordering a half dozen extra clips for each of the handguns, and will continue to lay in ammo.

207 "Tom Snyder's Bloodlands has an excellent account of this. Basicly the Bolshevik govt. took everything from the peasants (kulaks or otherwise) and gave it the cities to feed the urban population and force the peasants into collectivization."

A book that belongs on every conservative's shelf is Harvest of Sorrow, by Robert Conquest. He lays out the terror-famine in all its horror. How anyone could read that book and still call themselves Communist is beyond me.

Another important book is Malcolm Muggeridge's autobiography Chronicles of Wasted Time. Muggeridge was the Manchester Guardian's Moscow correspondent during the time of terror-famine. His description of how the MBM covered up for Stalin is nausating and horrifying: the predecessors of today's Journolisters, but with blood on their hands. Muggeridge calls Walter Duranty "the greatest liar I have known in fifty years of journalism," which, considering journalism, is really saying something.

One story, which probably is apocryphal, is told about Conquest. It seems that his book Stalin's Secret War, about the show-trials and genocides carried out by Stalin was thoroughly denounced by the Western Left, to the point where by, the late 1980s, the book was out of print. After 1989, when Pravda started running excerpts from the book, Conquest's publisher came to him and inquired about a new edition; however, the new edition would have to have a new title, since the old title had had so many bad reviews. Conquest thought for a second, then said, "How about this for a title: I Was Right, You Fucking Fools."

Exactly right, Vic.

Cronyism is as old a practice as prostitution....and is somewhat similar, in that it requires one to prostitute their natural desire for the best product or service, in favor of the product or service that your crony requires you to purchase/use.

Cronyism grows under burdensome regulations and rules, too.

The ObamaCare Waivers are a good recent example of this. ....Create an onerous new Law, that kills jobs......then issue waivers to that Law to your cronies. The common denominator in these waivers seems to be union jobs, which must be protected at all costs of course.

That's because it's being run by Barry and his minions. Comrade Chairman would have it no other way

Thanks for the heads up kdabear. I'll keep an eye out for those you mentioned- I generally don't read the comments at ZeroHedge, but read the articles. Get too annoyed by the comments, LOL.

221 Charlie Gasparino on Fox right now [10 minutes ago]......calling the OWS a "Marxist movement"....and anti-American.

Did you hear him tell people not to go down there and try to lecture or debate them. He said that an opposing point of view could easily result in you being "hit over the head" with something. He was asked if he would go back down there and said that he'd already been made a couple of times and didn't think it would be good to try it again. He said they have been emboldened.

To hear him tell it, violence is a near certainty.

222 Not to piss on your post,  Ace, but every political event, rally, or gathering in which young, impressionable people are assembled will draw the Commies and Socialists out in droves to hand out their literature.  It is what they do, and have done since time out of mind.  The fact that virtually no one else at these events is handing out literature (other than take out pizza menus?) does not prove or even necessarily indicate that the bulk of the kids and young adults joining this movement are, themselves, leftist or so inclined.  There is a lot of mush-brained thinking going on here, but I think it is a mistake to write off the broad group of participants (one-timers, some-timers) because they attract the vermin Communists like flies.  There are a lot of people unhappy with the Obama depression who are too uneducated in economics or history to understand what the correct solutions might be.  I believe that some of these people are going to be among the new generation of tea partiers, if we invite them and show that the tea partiers have the right solutions.  We make that less likely when we trash all of them for the excesses, stupidity and downright criminality and treason of some of them.

223 Imagine a bunch of Tea Partiers, the Lyndon LaRouche folks, Hare Krishnas, Communists, or radical Muslims setting up in front of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Pentagon, the Senate/House Office Buildings, the SCOTUS, the Holocaust museum, the Naval Observatory, Howard Dean’s house, the Cloward–Piven home, the DNC, the White House, or Obama campaign headquarters with “Occupy” banners.

Wonder how Obama would like to be associated with that ?

I think I finally understand the positions that Occupy Wall Street advocates:

1. Much higher taxes.
2. Much more government spending.
3. Organized elimination of bodily waste on city streets.

Leave it to Democrats to embrace the "movement".”

229 Here is thing this OWS will fade out because it is just a gathering of all these separate marxist groups who all want to use this to get out their message. So we have all these different messages jsut clogging the airwaves with no leadership to reign it all in. Because "I'm an artist, Im a free spirit, yeah whatever".

Women's Sufferage happened because it has Susan B Anthony
Jim Crow was repealed because it had Dr. King
on the other end

The Communists took over Russia because they had Lenin
Nazis took over because they and Hitler who had his organized brownshirts that sent out a message "We got our shit together" as Germany fell apart around them.

230 Occupy DC, also known as Occupy K St, is camped 3 blocks from the White House and next to the street where all the lobbyists live.

If you define socialism as believing that the wealthiest Americans should pay higher taxes, half the country would be socialists. All the ones who support the "Millionaire Tax."

Corporations are just an easy punching bag for the Occupy Wall Street bunch.

If you interview the people sitting around during the day, compared with people who only come occasionally when they are off work in the evenings, you might get different answers. Or the supporters who come by and drop off supplies.

If you remember your history, in the early 20th century there were regulations put forth against monopolies, oligopolies, union breaking and price collusion. Those were put in place to curb the problems with capitalism. There are still problems with capitalism, and we can put appropriate regulations in place again.

I personally am in favor of democracy and capitalism, because there has been no history of any other system working well. However, capitalism has become dysfunctional, and that is what people are protesting.

To the extend that it is no longer capitalism, but rather government controlled cronyism, yes, it is dysfunctional.  The problem, of course, is that the unwashed robots of OWS want more cronyism.
