Pac-12 Shame: Ten UCLA, Arizona Players Suspended After Bench-Clearing Brawl
— rdbrewer

Blame the streaker:

The brawl began near the end of the second half after a streaker dressed as a referee disrupted play sneaking on the field and disrobing as he ran around. The players, who were lined up across from one another, apparently began exchanging words, then pushes, shoves and punches.

Both sidelines emptied as secondary fights broke out and spread across the field before cooler heads finally prevailed.

So they're charging the streaker with a felony:

Jace Lankow, an undergraduate at the University of Arizona could face up to one and half years in jail after being charged with a class six felony for criminal impersonation.

He says he wanted to be a contestant on a show called Wipeout, and the application asked for a description of the craziest thing you've ever done.

Thay're charging him with a felony ostensibly because he wore a referee's uniform. He was wearing a referee's knickers with no socks. They don't wear knickers anymore, but even when they did their hairy legs weren't visible. That get-up was not very convincing, and there are probably a few people dressed like that at every football game.

I think they're just mad and embarrassed about the brawl.

Another thing to consider: The people charging this guy with a felony are likely part of the generation that invented streaking. It used to be that you couldn't watch any sporting event without a streaker showing up. The brawl:

The streaker:

Nice tackle. That cop must have played some serious ball back in the day. Exit question: Which one of you Morons did this?

2 The brawl didn't look that bad to me.

Now that kid from MSU, Gholston, on the other hand should be facing more than just a one game suspension.  He seems really out of control..

Twisting the helmet after the play the way he did could have broken that kid's neck.  It wasn't in the heat of play.  It was after it.  And apparently he had another incident during the same game.

18 i'm sorry.....streaking is funny to me.....if some idiot wants to streak at a game.....well more power to him or her.....they are going to get tackled and it's going to hurt....and i'm going to laugh.......when i was a kid it was common for someone to run across the field.....hell in san francisco there was a streaker a day running through the city covered on the evening news......the best streaking i ever saw was a stoner on a bmx bike during my brothers baseball game.......his foot slipped of the pedal and he went down hard on the bar.....fell over and just rolled around in agony......the entire crowd was roaring with laughter......it was FUNNY!

It doesn't help when every POS high-school dropout UAW fuckhead who never set foot on a college campus decides to be a loudmouth Wolverines fan and talk trash all year simply because their team (used to) win all the time.

Sorry. F the Wolverines. F them forever.

28 Oh the twisting? Yeah that was wrong. I was talking about the punch. I didn't watch it that closely. which one was Golsten?

He was the one (in the Michigan State game last week) who piled on late and went straight for the QB's helmet, twisting his head dramatically.  On another play he threw a punch at a player away from the play (and after it ended).

I think in college you have to look at things like that (both clearly personal fouls as opposed to bad/sloppy technique like when a lineman gets his hands up in someone's face) as warning signs.  I just think you have to discipline those sorts of things more aggressively.

To me that brawl didn't look like much.  It was dramatic b/c of the number of players, but I didn't catch anything too egregious.

31 I hate all of the posturing and chest pounding in football.  It's all me me me me.  In the good old days you played football and you realized that it was about the  team and not yourself.  My favorite Bud Grant advise that I used when I coached was, "Act like you've been there before."  When you score, hand the ball to the ref and come back to the sidelines.  When you make a great play,  come back to the huddle and get ready to do it again.  All of the kids that come through have taken that advise and our program is good because of it.

Ghadaffi didn't have much nuke equipment, but he had a considerable stockpile of enriched uranium, which was secured about as well as those Libyan 20,000 SA-7 missiles that went "missing'.

Your guess is as good as mine, but much of ghadaffi's left-over WMD stockpiles is probably en-route to Iran.  The Iranians have a detachment of Revolutionary Guard in Southern Sudan and could have easily procured Libyan arms and WMD material during the withdrawal of Ghadaffi's forces.

They just refuse to get serious at QB.  Nothing against Beck, but they are long overdue for a top QB.  They keep trying to "make due" at that position, then throw good money after long in the tooth defensive players and backs.

And I don't think Shanahan was a great choice for coach.

Mostly, though, we need to get rid of that owner.

You shouldn't let it bother you. Obama will get negligible credit for UBL & Libya. Remember on Libya he led from behind. And on terrorism, he spent so much time trying to close Gitmo and hold civilian trials in NYC. The cowboy kinetic military actions simply don't play into Barack "Peace Prize" Obama's narrative.

As for "preventing" a depression and "not" mismanaging a natural disaster, well, just as it's difficult to prove a negative, so is it difficult to take credit for one. Look at the jobs "created or saved" fiasco.

If anyone thinks that that poster represents a winning reelection strategy, they're about to be disabused.

I think of it more like a shake-down, but I guess you can call it that.  I hope my purse doesn't get stolen again, lol!

Posted by: Kratos (Ghost of Sparta) at October 23, 2011 02:09 PM (AUdXG)

196 Why is it that because one group of people are of the same "generation" (what really does that mean? How many years? what years are included? Who decides when a generation begins and ends?) has NO relevancy to what the do or believe now.

There were a bunch of hippies running around then also but not as many as you think yet every boomer gets the label when someone wants to make some point.

Some have defined the boomer generation from the 40's to the 60's (which is ridiculous), others to those born immediately after the war (the largest actual "boom" in births took place from 1946 to about 1949) as that was when those young men who had put their lives on hold to fight world war II returned to civilian life and began building families.

To claim some sort of emotional, philosophical or political kinship to another individual just because they were born during the same time is stupid, short sighted and a crass rhetorical ploy that seems to be employed when a writer has nothing worthwhile to say but wants to appear clever while denigrating those who have been lumped together due to similar birth dates.

It's makes about as much sense as astrology.

What's YOUR sign?

I Looooove the kindle.  Best thing I ever bought.  I'm a reader but I read more now (all genres) than I ever did.  My mom loves hers (she is 79), my sis loves hers, my Aunt Karen loves hers, my husband loves his and I just bought one for my bff and he loves it and he is 68 and an old school kinda guy.  If you buy one you won't regret it.

220 I don't have cable, mpfs, just the regular network stuff.  But Good Wife is an addiction, I love it.  As for the kindle, I can't imagine reading my books in digital format.  When I crash out with a book, I want it in my hand, I want to mangle it (which is why I can only read paperbacks), dog-ear it, fail to care that the kittehs like to bite them, and I don't want to spend more than a couple of bucks for it.  My dad buys a million books for 75 cents at the LJ library.  Sometimes we go crazy and get 'em from Costco.  Then we pass them all around.

He is just the coolest!  Has a way better haircut this year, just as fab as ever.  And, in a couple of the earlier episodes, they had this guy who was clearly a Carville knockoff,  it was great!  You may want to check it out again, it's on Sunday nights at 9, but of course you can always watch it on the 'net.  It's juicy!

I lived there almost 20 years myself.  Loved the skies.  Loved the monsoons and the wildflower in spring.  Owned property on the border of Saguaro National Monument West.

Grew to hate the culture.  I knew I was on my way outta there when I took my kids to one of the 14th ave street fairs, advertised as a family-friendly event, and we were immersed in marijuana smoke and filth and set upon by aggressive panhandlers.  Every other booth was raising money for some cause that was the antithesis of the constitution.

It was easier to look the other way before we had kids.  After - not so much.
