Popular Mechanics Report on Reno Air Show Crash
— Ace

Here.

I would quote it, but it's all technical details, and those who want technical details are probably going to want all the technical details.

JohnE sent it to me, to which I replied, "lies, the jews did it"

Since then, we've continued in that vein:

300 Jews were called night before crash and told to go to the dog track instead.

air can't shear steel

Plane fell faster than gravity.

The FBI had an office in the rear of the plane

Larry Silverstein insured plane for $1 billion.

There are probably other important Truth-y objections to this so-called "Popular" "Mechanics" "report."

1 The video clearly shows a pod or missile.  It is much too small to have been a 747.  Inside job!

3 There is no way a pilot could bring a plane in that close to the ground and hit right in front of the grandstand.  The level of skill for that precise a hit is impossible.

4 It really is tragic.

Husband and I have a policy of never going to those things.  They just seem like a death wish.  We did accidentally see the Chicago Air & Water Show on Lake Michigan one year.  We were having brunch at the 95th and the building got buzzed by some sort of jet.  Pretty cool, but not something I'd care to repeat.

Yeah, but iirc the jet seemed to be pretty darned close to the John Hancock Center (that houses the 95th), which is only a couple of blocks from the lake.  Scared the poo out of us until we realized what the heck was happening.

Good brunch, too.

Yeah, I went to my first air show in Dayton two years ago and watched the Thunderbirds perform, among others.

It was badass covered in awesome sauce and the action is right on top of you.

F-16s approaching the speed of sound just a couple hundred feet above your head, one wrong mechanical failure or stress fracture in an aileron and bad news follows.

32 If John Boehner didn't know this was going to happen, why wasn't he there?

Is it just coincidence that a WAR plane kills people not long after the President proposed scaling down the WAR in Iraq?

Isn't it obvious that someone wired up the plane with explosives in advance, and they just happened to go off when the plane hit the ground?

I'm just asking questions.

34 >>>It really is tragic. >>>Husband and I have a policy of never going to those things. They just seem like a death wish. Can I say something that isn't necessarily well thought out? One thing that occurred to me when this happened is that the pilot died doing what he loved. The bystanders on the ground did not exactly die doing what they loved, but they were at an air show, and wanted to be there. Every death like this is tragic. But (here is the part I haven't thought out) a certain amount of the human experience involves tempting death. It's a vital part of us. Death is never good (unless it's Anus Bottle Jihadi), but we have to bear in mind that risk is part of life, and the pilot, at least, assumed that risk. And I don't mean that in a "The hell with him, he knew what he was doing" way. I mean an essential part of his life and his enjoyment of life was doing risky things in an airplane. So in an incoherent way I wanted to say something like "Let's not overlook the joy and courage here, as we grieve the dead."

This is the predictable outcome of our foreign airplane policy. Chickens coming home on turbo-boost. The Little Curtis LeMays sitting in the stands, taking their photographs and videos, braying into their cell phones and arranging their power lunches, were complicit in that policy.

I sent Ace a note proposing essentially the same scenario about 24 hours after the accient, based on loss of trim tab, resulting g's, and pilot incapacitation.  I further speculated that maybe he unfastened his harness to jump before becoming incapacitated, and that was why he was not visible in the final pictures, but if he pulled 22 g's he wasn't doing anything, he was out cold if not asphyxiated.

Popular Mechanics says the tailplane generates terrific downward force at high speed.  Well, yes, but most pilots would say it like the wing generates terrific upward force, and the elevators have to be held down hard to keep the plane from climbing, and the trim tab helps you do that.  Technically the same, but worded bass-ackwards from the way a pilot would think about it.  Weird.

I was thinking that, but haven't had a chance to run the numbers. Worst case, probably just under the speed of sound.

That's assuming that there's enough drag to slow it to terminal velocity. If it's shaped like a bullet coming down, drag might not slow it down enough.

did anyone know of this from GayPatriots site

The conversations were recorded by Andre Howard who ran the Lone Wolf Trading Company. Howard’s gun dealership had been cooperating with the ATF in “Fast and Furious.” At least two of his weapons were sold to a straw buyer before turning up later at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. Hope MacAllister, the ATF agent heard in the conversations, was the lead case agent.

Dealer: Â…Holder has to respond to this tomorrow.

Agent: Yeah heÂ’s gonna respond.

Dealer: I know he is. And I can assure you the media isnÂ’t gonna like his response because basically itÂ’s gonna mirror what heÂ’s told Grassley.

Agent: Yeah.

Dealer: He canÂ’t deviate.

Agent: Well if, I mean I’ve seen a rough copy at least of what our US Attorney here has sent up. Whether or not he has the b—s to actually use it or not, I doubt it. But I mean it’s pretty aggressive. Um. The way I see it our local US Attorney is extremely aggressive. When it gets to DC…

Â…

Dealer: WhatÂ’s HoldersÂ’ office got to say about this?

Agent: Well like I said they’re supposed to come out with little more um b—-y statement than they have in the past, so…

Dealer: God theyÂ’re (intell)

Agent: I mean at some point they’re gonna say have to say Grassley you’re just gonna have to sit your a– down. I mean that or they’re gonna have to (unintell). I mean like I said my understanding is he can’t call a hearing. Somebody from the majority party has got to call a congressional hearing and as of right now…

Dealer: Patrick Leahy’s an a—-e, you know that. He gets ahold of something he’s like a dog with a bone.

Agent: As of right now we donÂ’t have any info thatÂ’s occurred. SoÂ…

Â…

Agent: ThatÂ’s kind of what my suggestion but nobody thought that was funny like if I were a P.I. IÂ’d put him on Grassley, IÂ’m sure thereÂ’s a lot would go away. Actually my one suggestion was just tell him in a registered Republican. IÂ’m sure if he knew that everything would be fine, they didnÂ’t like that either.

So, we apparently have an ATF agent suggesting the use of blackmail against a United States Senator for the purpose of interfering with a lawful investigation.

September 23, 2011 — CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A 6-ton NASA satellite on a collision course with Earth clung to space Friday, apparently flipping position in its ever-lower orbit and stalling its death plunge.

The old research spacecraft was targeted to crash through the atmosphere sometime Friday night or early Saturday, putting Canada, Africa and Australia in the potential crosshairs, although most of the satellite should burn up during re-entry. The United States wasn't entirely out of the woods; the possible strike zone skirted Washington state.

I have been at air shows in germany and all over the USA. The likelyhood of getting hit by a plane  at one of those shows? I would say astronomical. Now you getting hit by another car going to the brunch, or chocking on a piece of food at said brunch - more likely

227 "Husband and I have a policy of never going to those things. "

My son and I were supposed to be at the Air Races that day, but because he had to work an extra shift, we decided our only race day would be Sunday. We would not have been sitting in the VIP boxes that were hit, and likely would have emerged unharmed, though shaken. Having said that, I will never stop going to Air Shows and will continue going to the Reno Air Races (been going since '92) should they be allowed to continue.

People who are afraid something might happen shouldn't walk out their own front doors...ever.

Wow - a few days after the crash we know exactly how the plane went down! Super! I really like the authoratative article you linked to! Pop Science is my go-to mag for hard aerospace science. Those "flaps" on the tail can really screw you up at high speeds that's for sure!

Don't be so damn guilible. Just last night you posted this:

Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect works as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray’s case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward-reversing cause and effect. I call these the “wet streets cause rain” stories. Paper’s full of them.

In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story-and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read with renewed interest as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about far-off Palestine than it was about the story you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.

As an aerospace professional I gotta tell you  - that article, while much of it may be probable, is also full of errors.

232 Plane fell faster than gravity.

Huh ?   faster implies speed which is measure in units like m/sec, while gravity is acceleration in units like m/sec/sec.

QED  this statement as no meaning

233 Andy Chiavetta, who worked with the pit crew of another Unlimited racer, says that according to telemetry broadcast from the Galloping Ghost to LeewardÂ’s team, the g load was far higher than that. "From what I understand he hit 22.5 gÂ’s, which no pilot can take," Chiavetta says. At that point, the crushing force pulls a pilot down so far that he or she isnÂ’t even visible in the canopy in pictures taken from the ground.
Gadzooks !! 22.5 G's .. most jet fighter pilots train to 10 G's but a usually only functional to about 5 G's

234 Please people, don't use a 4 ton, 50 year old fighter plane as a high G pylon air race horse and then pilot the plane by a 74 year old man.

Everything has its limits.

I know, I'm still alive.

Posted by: NortonPete at September 23, 2011 09:10 PM (8zxoH)

235 I ain't no aviation genius, but I know a thing or two about electronics. It sure seems like these old P-51s that are adapted for racing should install an accelerometer that would cut the throttle or fuel supply when it detected severe G-forces (>5Gs?).  Especially when such failure would endanger an audience. It isn't that difficult to do.

Posted by: Doug at September 23, 2011 11:00 PM (q/08r)

236 Fire can't melt grandstands. It had to have been a controlled demolition. There wasn't a perfect, P51-shaped hole in the ground where the plane crashed, like you would expect if your entire knowledge of physics and crash investigations came from watching Wile E. Coyote cartoons. Therefore--obviously it was a cruise missile. Why didn't NORAD shoot down the P51 before it got close to the grandstands? Who gave NORAD the order to "stand down"? I saw a bunch of people dancing and celebrating on the other side of Lake Tahoe at the same time of the crash. I think they were Joooooss! Wheels within wheels, my friend. Wheels within wheels.

237 Close to 3000 posts and none of you morons has grasped the obvious. Didn't any of you study Logic and Physics in High School? 1. This plane has been safely flying for more than 50 years but it suddenly fell out of the air. Why now? 2. Hot air is less dense than cold air. 3. The planet is much hotter than it was 50 years ago. QED: Global warming caused this accident. Your rich and decadent SUV driving life style killed those people.

He knew the man, suspect this will finely get him out of the cockpit. During his exabitition in July he came out of a barrel roll coming right at the croud, people started to scatter untill he pulled it out. He clipped one of the filed landing lights when he landed.
