— Ace Is there a word -- maybe a German word, because they have a word for everything -- meaning "the pleasure experienced from hearing again something you already knew?"
If not, there should be.
I used to watch the same three documentaries on Boston's Big Dig, a few times each. It didn't bother me that I'd already heard it all before. That actually became the good thing -- it was nice that I'd heard it all before.
Take Shark Week. I'm thinking most guys who watch Shark Week know most of the shark trivia they're going to hear. But they love it just the same. Or maybe because it's the same.
This might be more common with men, who are known to watch the same movies or TV episodes repeatedly. Why is awesome the hundredth time John McClane shoots Hans Gruber? I don't know, it just is. It's comforting, maybe.

Or why is it enjoyable to reread a book, or replay Final Fantasy II (Yes I know it was 4, that's not the point)? Because unlike life, we know what's coming next and if it was something we didn't want any part of, we wouldn't be watching that movie in the first place.

"Belated mastery" is the standard term psychology-talkin' guys (used to) use for that sort of feeling. Seeking it is usually a sign of some really bad shit in your head—shit you're compulsively re-living or re-repressing—but it can also just be a thing you like to do because it's a thing you like to do.
Basically, you experience things better when you're more sure of what you're experiencing, so to feel that betterness ("mastery"), you repeat things. It relieves anxiety. Or it makes it worse. Or it avoids it, which makes it worse, unless it doesn't.
The gigantic German word for it is probably in Beyond the Pleasure Principle, but that's like eighty feet away, so pffft.

I watched a news program about the Big Dig. They were saying how much overbudget it was. Then they showed a bunch of workers who spent a work day at a pub instead of being on the job. Then they went on to say how common that was. Then they were telling that since the Big Dig was mostly funded by federal tax dollars it was costing all of us an ungodly amount of money while union workers were screwing off and taking as long as they could to complete the thing so the money train would keep on rolling. So the whole thing was nothing but a make work program for an area of the country that had political influence (Ted Kennedy) to help a sagging Boston economy.
Was Obama up there when this crap was going on? It might explain where he gets some of his bright ideas from.

I don't know a lot about it but what I've heard is this: The Big Dig had to be dug through mud and Bechtel figured out that it could adapt a method they had used on the Hoover Dam to insert tubing into the pipes and cool the setting concrete so it would not form cracks, into a method to freeze the mud and allow for forward progress on the Big Dig. This was of course brilliant, but it came with a change order. Bing or Google the change order and the original contract. You'll see a couple of boats. The job costs went up and even a penalty would not have finished the gig as it was obvious it just needed to be completed...

Not to belabor the point Douglas. Nowhere in the Silver Spike is there any hint of a relationship between Raven and Darling. Go back to The White Rose when Darling is speaking to Croaker about Raven being alive. That is the only time Darling ever made Her interest known. Raven faked his death again the next day.
Darling and Case end up together at the end of that book.

But, on the other hand, they are deeply worried that the rules of the game are changing for only the second time in American history and that they are unliked, targeted and to be punished for being successful. The result is not that the private sector is fleeing the US (where would one go?). Nor are entrepreneurs and go-getters shutting down their businesses that they have built from the ground up.
Instead, what we are witnessing is a sort of shrug, a pause, best summarized millions of times over as something like “I’m hoarding cash, hunkering down, and am going to wait this bad bunch out.”

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Astronauts may need to take the unprecedented step of temporarily abandoning the International Space Station if last week's Russian launch accident prevents new crews from flying there this fall.
Until officials figure out what went wrong with Russia's essential Soyuz rockets, there will be no way to launch any more astronauts before the current residents have to leave in mid-November.
The unsettling predicament comes just weeks after NASA's final space shuttle flight.

Kinda like reading political and economic blogs, Ace. Left, right, center, Keynesian or Austrian, Elliot Wave or Fan charts, the arguments are always the same. Change the nouns and verbs, cut and paste from boilerplate, and viola! Steal someone else's inept photoshop. Add Kittens and Puppies! The Insight of the Day! The Drama!
Hell, Transhumanists, relgious, science and tech blogs do it, too.
The outcome is always the same. Nothing gets resolved. The plot and storyline get lost in the details. Loose threads are left dangling all over the place. Brain-dead, zombie sophistries overpower the heros and heroines of reason and logic. Good is defeated by evil...
But...I read it all, very day, none-the-less.
I don't have to watch a movie.
The Zombie Apocalypse is already here, in real life, each and every day. ...and I can't turn my eyes away from it.
