The Cobs Have This Idea That You Will Write This Post For Us

Oh yes you will.
Lefties are orgasmic over this video. I had no idea my small business was such a public burden. Wow.
Good to know.

Have at it, darling Morons. I'll be checking out the comments and main-paging the awesome ones. I have a good feeling about this concept.

Above the video AWESOME comment:

267 Is she f*cking insane?

I gotta ask.

Its the taxes *I* pay as a small business owner, and as a private citizen, that funds the roads, the police, the army, and so on. I pay for this now. Right f*cking now.

And you don't think I built my goddamned business on my own? You don't think I am the only one who was willing to take a f*cking risk on my vision? You think that society as a whole contributed to my business growing and being successful?

So, in the deepest dark of the credit crunch, where was society with the capital to back the asset purchases I needed to fulfill orders when the banks wouldn't? The banks that are partially publicly owned, too big to fail, yet probably should?

What grew my business was the intense backbreaking labor I put into my business. The complex financial arrangements, and the risks *I* f*cking took. The danger to my families well being by literally risking every f*cking thing we had in order to pursue this, while this idiot and her fellow travelers were busy raping larger versions of businesses and denying their rightful owners their assets handing everything over to their buddies.

Lady, you have no business being in government. You have no business teaching. You have no f*cking clue what it takes to start, grow, run a business.

OMFG

Yes, it is quite galling to work 6, sometimes 7 days a week, get F*CKED by the government six ways to Sunday in ways that employees never get to know about, and be told about all this wonderful 'help' we received.

80 Hidden (but not really) in Warren's idea of the implied social contract is the assumption on their part that they are the ones who are going to set the terms of the relationship between the government (them) and its citizens (you). They truly believe we should all be grateful for what the government "gives" us, not stopping for a minute to realize that the wealth of government cannot exist without the work of its citizens.

The concept of individual liberty, of citizens as autonomous actors who have the power to establish what relationship we should have with our government confuses and enrages them. It's astounding, but welcome, to see a candidate express their beliefs in such stark terms. This is the American left.

235 The thrust of these comments is clear. (Leave aside the fact that the wars were in response to being attacked. (She's right about the drug benefit not being paid for, though.))
"Pay it forward" means, to people like her, "do as the government says." The end state of this philosophy is corporatism, in which only large corporations who can satisfy the government's requirements survive and flourish. The other name for corporatism is fascism. This is the end state of her philosophy, and she knows it and work toward it with the fervor of a zealot. That's what we're fighting against: the death of individual initiative and success and the rise of the all-encompassing corporatist state.

So she explains away $4T of the estimated $14T in debt by criticizing programs or actions she probably supported and that the Dems could have done away with when they had complete control but didn't.

I think Republicans need to remind Americans at every chance they get that the Dems did indeed control all 3 parts of the legislature for a period of time and their only achievement is that burdensome takeover of the health care system in this country. The parts of the plan that people like could have been spelled out in about 4 pages and without all of the agencies, rules, and regulations fixing to hit us right between the eyes.

You know that Bill Gates guy?  He drives on public funded roads!

And so does Warren Buffet.

The other thing about Bill Gates, he almost lost his driver's license some years back.  He has a propensity for speeding (and yes, he does drive himself).  So he was using more than his fair share of police services.  He should have paid more.

I'm surprised that leftards haven't figured out a way to base fines for traffic violations on a sliding scale, adjusted for income.  You know, to be more fair and everything.

99 I still think Brown is favored to win, especially after diving into that PPP poll, which seems more and more like dishonest narrative-priming rather than anything authentic.

Brown has an uphill battle:

1) The MA machine can brute force a victory.  It did so in 2010.  He caught them off-guard last time.

2) MA will vote for Obama.  It's one of the few places where he is an asset, not a burden.  Dems down-ticket will benefit.

3) Brown ain't getting the same level of funding or support he got in 2009.

Jordan, you conveniently fall into the same trap most libtards do.

You try to justify the confiscation of wealth by the federal government by using local services as the example.  It doesn't work.

Locally, we have referendums.  My town has foregone upgrades to fire departments, roads and school building projects.  Because the electorate (citizens) have rejected those spending projects.

What my town does for roads, fire readiness, police, schools has nothing to do with what level of spending we allow the fedds to do.

Arrogant ignorance on full display.  Warren lists three government funded services that she believes justifies raising federal income taxes on the rich – roads, education, and public safety.

All three functions have traditionally been local responsibilities, not the function of the federal government.  In most states police, fire and education have traditionally been funded by a tax on real property and so, because his factory is worth more, the evil factory owner already pays a disproportionate amount for those services.  Roads were first privately funded, constructed and operated. Some still are.  The Ambassador Bridge and Indiana Toll Road are two current examples. Kasich has said he'd consider the same for the Ohio Toll road.  Almost since the advent of cars, roads have been funded by a tax on gasoline – essentially a use tax – and not by the federal income tax.

Maybe when talking about federal spending, instead of roads, education, and public safety, Warren really meant to say “mohair subsidy” or Solyndra.

I think idiots like Elizabitch Warren believe themselves to be the Cotton Mathers in this story, and all the eeeeeeevil Republicans, conservatives, and Tea Party types are the witches.  So they're startled and confused when we don't lay back and croak, "More weight!" ala Giles Corey, and instead fight back and take them out at the knees with our hobo cannons.

Posted by: MWR, Proud Tea(rrorist) Party Hobbit at September 22, 2011 08:07 AM (4df7R)

225 Yes, if you're successful, you benefited from all those advantages: public roads, public safety, public education (to some extent). But guess what? All those people out there who failed also had those advantages available to them. So why don't we collect from them too, since they used all those resources? Oh, because they don't have the money (since they failed) and you do (since you succeeded)?

Well, then, now it's all clear. It's not about being fair about paying for that use, since if it was, both successful and failed companies should pay the same. It's not about being fair about the role of those factors in your success because they don't scale: if your business doubles in size, that doesn't mean that the public factors were twice as effective. It's about getting the money from somebody, and you've got it, and she wants it so she can gain political power by spending your money on other people. This is fair, all right: fair, that is, as defined by four-year-olds.

228 The thrust of these comments is clear. (Leave aside the fact that the wars were in response to being attacked. (She's right about the drug benefit not being paid for, though.)) "Pay it forward" means, to people like her, "do as the government says." The end state of this philosophy is corporatism, in which only large corporations who can satisfy the government's requirements survive and flourish. The other name for corporatism is fascism. This is the end state of her philosophy, and she knows it and work toward it with the fervor of a zealot. That's what we're fighting against: the death of individual initiative and success and the rise of the all-encompassing corporatist state.

259 Is she fucking insane? I gotta ask. Its the taxes *I* pay as a small business owner, and as a private citizen, that funds the roads, the police, the army, and so on. I pay for this now. Right fucking now. And you don't think I built my goddamned business on my own? You don't think I am the only one who was willing to take a fucking risk on my vision? You think that society as a whole contributed to my business growing and being successful? So, in the deepest dark of the credit crunch, where was society with the capital to back the asset purchases I needed to fulfill orders when the banks wouldn't? The banks that are partially publicly owned, too big to fail, yet probably should? What grew my business was the intense backbreaking labor I put into my business. The complex financial arrangements, and the risks *I* fucking took. The danger to my families well being by literally risking every fucking thing we had in order to pursue this, while this idiot and her fellow travelers were busy raping larger versions of businesses and denying their rightful owners their assets handing everything over to their buddies. Lady, you have no business being in government. You have no business teaching. You have no fucking clue what it takes to start, grow, run a business. OMFG

291

Ms. Warren,

Let me see if I can explain how the whole economy and tax thing work.

Businesses, like the one I am part owner in, create goods and services which require people to do the work.  When people do the work, they typically want to get paid.  That money they receive can be taxed although the federal government only seems interested in taxing the top 50% or so of earners.  What also can be taxed is the goods and services that my business creates.  Any left over money my business has at the end of the year can also be taxed.  Without business created goods and services and jobs, there is nothing to tax.  Without those taxes, created by businesses like mine, there is no money to build roads or pay for police or build schools or pay for teachers.

So instead of you and the rest of you who do not contribute anything meaningful to society thinking you are my partner deserving in a cut of my profits, who don't you just say thank you to me and those of us who are taking the risk, against the odds, to create, to build, to allow people like you to get paid to squander the tax revenue we create.

The real argument is "How much is too much, and how much is not enough?"

314 then she saw the answer; she saw the secret premise behind their words. with all of their noisy devotion to the age of science, their hysterically technological jargon, their cyclotrons, their sound rays, these men were moved forward, not by the image of an industrial skyline, but by the vision of that form of existence which the industrialists had swept away – the vision of a fat, unhygienic rajah of india, with vacant eyes staring in indolent stupor out of stagnant layers of flesh, with nothing to do but run previous gems through his fingers and, once in a while, stick a knife into the body of a starved, toil-dazed, germ-eaten creature, as a claim to a few grains of the creature’s rice, then claim it from hundreds of millions of such creatures and thus let the rice grains gather into gems. she had thought that industrial production was a value not to be questioned by anyone; she had thought that these men’s urge to expropriate the factories of others was their acknowledgment of the factories’ value. she, born of the industrial revolution, had not held as conceivable, had forgotten along with the tales of astrology and alchemy, what these men knew at their secret, furtive souls, knew not by means of thought, but by means of that nameless much which they called their instincts and emotions: that so long as men struggle to stay alive, they’ll never produce so little but that the man with the club won’t be able to seize it and leave them still less, provided millions of them are willing to submit – that the harder their work and the less their gain, the more submissive the fiber of their spirit – that men who live by pulling levers at an electric switchboard, are not easily ruled, but men who live by digging the soil with their naked fingers, are – that the feudal baron did not need electronic factories in order to drink his brains away out of jeweled goblets, and neither did the rajahs of the people’s state of india.

350 We've finally reached the point (30 years ago actually) where I can't think of one area where we need MORE government. It's the end of the road for infinite government expansion.

Posted by: Cornfused Yet Again at September 22, 2011 12:18 PM (AyzfE)

This all began in the early 1900's, with two changes to the Consitution.

1. Making the Income Tax Legal, which created a method for the Federal Government to impose any tax they wished.

2. Making the Senate elected by popular vote, vice being Representatives of the States...

These two changes made it to the Feds could Tax in a manner the Founders thought was immoral, AND, took a major impediment to Fed Power away (the efective Veto power the States could play, through their representatives in the Senate, on issues of Federal Power).

This is just the end game...

She gets her "hunk"..it's called a salary and pension funded by the corp jet owner's tax money.

I'm surprised that leftards haven't figured out a way to base fines for traffic violations on a sliding scale, adjusted for income.  You know, to be more fair and everything.

They actually do that in Europe.

Posted by: zmdavid at September 22, 2011 11:51 AM (Ha6Wv)

I can actually see the logic to that--fines aren't meant to pay for the roads, they are meant to deter traffic offenses, so they should carry the same amount of proportional pain.

But then, they shouldn't be allowed to change the amount or strictness based on the state budget, either.

The rate of spending and taxation that liberals for the entirety of Boooosh's presidency hailed as ideal would now be cruel.

365

Let’s look into Mass. When she says “we” as if the person who built the factory doesn’t pay taxes she is creating a false fallacy. “We” as a matter of fact DON’T ALL pay taxes. Now let’s look at those who do pay taxes in Mass: The top 1% of people who pay taxes paid $103,000 in state and local taxes and $593,000 in federal taxes. The bottom 20% of those who pay taxes paid all of $1,186 in state and local, no federal. So the notion of her “we” is a false premise. If “we” are honest we would ask: who sucks up all of the public services? Where are “we” spending all this money? Sounds like “we” are really just protecting the bottom 20% of those who do pay taxes but only state and local in Mass and those who don’t even pay state and local, let alone federal. So the question is: What are these low-paying and non-paying taxpayers doing? Hoovering, that is what “they” are doing. Hell, the majority of murders that occurred in Boston occurred in neighborhoods where the average median income is $27,000 and they’re not paying any federal taxes. So “We” who are paying everything are protecting the people that our money is being redistributed to. But no one wants to talk about that. Let's see if Scott Brown has the balls to talk about it. If not, he's a limp wristed coward and deserves to lose.

378 Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded- here and there, now and then- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck."

Robert A. Heinlein.

Shrieking harridan Elizabeth Warren, like every Communist fuckwit who ever fouled the planet, is actively courting "bad luck".

Warren's research and publications are always the same:

Big government programs have raised the cost of living. We need larger government to fix it, and that necessarily means giving up some of our rights.

One could run a 24 hour website fisking Warren. The Right has Pat Buchanan telling us Hitler would have stopped in Poland had we not irked him, and that brown Mexicans will ruin us. On the Left, we have Elizabeth Warren.  She is just that productive and a gift that never stops giving.

OT:

FL polling by Quinipac (spelling?) making the rounds. Quinipac not the best on accuracy so take it with a grain of salt:

- Gov Scott w/ horrible approvals but great personal favorables in FL

- Rubio VERY POPULAR in FL

- Perry LEADS in FL primary but losing to Obama -2 (RCP avg has Perry up on Obama)

446 **use of 'fascism' to refer to right wing authoritarianism.** trolls that say things like that are completely ignorant of history. The German National Socialist Workers Party, for example, demonstrate the actual history of facism which is that it's still socialism. Any time I hear that businesses can only profit due to the groundwork (infrastructure, education, law) laid by past generations, in that special leftish tone of speech/writing, communist alarm bells go off in my head. Usually because 9/10 times the next thing coming is a call to take more.

The argument alone allows no upper limit and can apply anywhere. Use computers to earn a living? Computer makers deserve more, not just what you paid them. Your education will last you a lifetime, isn't that worth more? Your parents raised you well, shouldn't they get a bigger slice of your pie? The argument can go to silly lengths.

...

I sometimes encounter communists online and ask them to tell me how, say, a machine shop would come to exist under communism. Where do the "means of production" come from? Taken from capitalists in the worker's revolution, of course. Not sure if I was having my chain yanked or if they were serious.

Yet again, let me note the following:  When I was in elementary school, I studied hard and was a good child so I would be prepared for high school.  When I was in high school, I studied hard and didn't party so that I would be valedictorian so I could get into a good college.  When I was in college, I was that girl who broke the curve so I could get into a good law school.  When I was in law school, I worked my ass off so I could graduate and then pass the bar.  I did all of that so that I would have a passing chance at a decent life.

When I am given back every party I didn't attend, every drink I didn't drink, every drug I didn't do, every person I didn't sleep with, every book I didn't buy, every pair of shoes I put back on the shelf, every hour of sleep I gave up, then and only then, can we talk about what it is I supposedly owe due to the "public good".

505 What trillion dollar hole? The Bush tax cuts more than paid for themselves. They brought about an economic miracle that was set to erase the deficit in 2 or 3 years when the Dems took over congress in '07 and screwed everything up. then they got to blame the disaster they made on Bush. I love how she explains how everything bad us still Bush's fault Unlike Obama with Lybia, Bush went to congress to authorize the wars, which has kept the terrorists on the defense for 10 years, so this little twit is free to prance around the country. Democrats in congress voted overwhelmingly for both wars. And they don't mind them so much now that they're Obama's problem. Obama colluded with the drug companies to pass Obamacare. Bush colluded with the Democrats to pass the prescription drug legislation.

So, in this case, I have been kept from walking down public streets to get to work due to the protests Downtown NYC.  In the 7 days they have been protesting, I have paid close to 1K in Federal, Local, and Municipal taxes, all the while the 20 people still protesting have effectively managed to use untold thousands of dollars the city will now have to pay for extra police, and public workers who have barricaded the financial district.

Are they responsible to pay more because they are making further use of the public parks and safety services than I am?

I'd expect every dirty hippy to write a check for at minimum $200 a day they've been shitting in the park.

-------------------------

"But I want to be clear. Your drum circles take place on roads the rest of us paid for.  The protestors you have are people the unions indoctrinated. Your saftety is guaranteed by the 1000 extra cops and DPW crews required to police the 5 block area you intend to occupy, that the people you protest actually pay for.  You don't have to worry about marauding bands of stock brokers coming and walking through your protest, seizing your protest signs and guitars...

Now look.  You decided to protest and get the world to listen - God Bless!  Feel good about yourself.  But part of the underlying social contract is to eventually take some pride, join the productive work force, and start paying some taxes like the rest of us so you can pay it forward to the next hippy-tantrum-group that comes along."

At some point, over 600 comments is enough for one topic...

O/T but this has got to be a metaphor for something:

A long-lost, highly valuable Moon rock brought back from the Apollo 17 mission has turned up in the files of Bill Clinton.

The rock was one of 50 presented to each state, and was given to Arkansas while the ex-president was governor. The rock, worth millions of dollars, had been missing since at least 1980 until an archivist found it in old gubernatorial papers. Bobby Roberts, director of the Central Arkansas Library System, told Reuters the archivist opened a box previously archived as "Arkansas flag plaque." The rock and a state flag were originally affixed to the plaque, but the rock had fallen off and the plaque had been misplaced.

"The moon rock, which is in a plastic container, had fallen off the plaque," Roberts said, explaining that the rock was at the bottom of the box. "The archivist immediately knew what he had discovered."

590 I think that what Elizabeth Warren is saying is logical and correct.  Along with her, I have reached the conclusion that business owners should pay taxes and recognize that their businesses derive some benefit from services provided by the government.

What she did not address in this video is the appropriate amount of taxes business owners should pay.  I bet she and I disagree vehemently on that point.

603 At some point there has GOT to be an honest debate about this subject. The fact of the matter is, this "its not class warfare, the rich OWE us those taxes" argument is completely dishonest. Absolutely businesses UTILIZE the infrastructure and agencies of government that facilitate and secure their businesses. But so does every single other citizen. AND the fact is those most productive members of society are already paying the lion's share of those taxes AND it just so happens they are paying a higher share than in any other country that matters. Furthermore, isn't it time was starting accounting for these things line by line ? How much public spending actually supports businesses in the way Liz Warren describes ? Defense ? No Social Security ? No Medicaid / Medicare ? No. That's almost the entirety of the $4 trillion federal budget right there. And businesses - by far - represent the most valuable property in any state, upon which the funds for education are appropriated already. The question really comes down to "what is the size and scope of the government(s) we want" ? How much does that cost, and just how progressive do we want that system of taxation to be ? If you strip away the bullshit class warfare, "the rich OWE us those taxes" nonsense, I cannot for the life of me see how her nonsense wins out. Which is to say nothing of the fact that she basically just announced that one of the platforms of her campaign is to repeal Medicare Part D. I do also enjoy how she is getting whoop whoop applause for allegedly accounting for barely 1/4 of the current US debt. Regardless of the fact that cannot go back in time and erase deficit expenditures, how does she think accounting for those 3 things helps us in the future ? As a Massachusetts resident I am quite happy to see Liz Warren is likely to be sticking her foot squarely in her mouth on a routine basis and ending up with just about as much of a reputation as a "bad candidate" as Martha Coakley. Good luck beating everyman Scott Brown with that approach

604

Just suppose that Professor Warren thinks:..."I hear all this, you know, ‘Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever'. No. There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own — nobody"... makes sense. Ask yourself: "How does it make sense?" Couldn't you say the same about anything Robinson Crusoe accomplished  on his island before Friday entered the story? It was "society", after all, that gave him the knowledge of  construction, animal domestication, and so on.

This means that the phrase "__X__ did __Y__ on his own" (fill in the blanks at will) never means anything. Yet by popular use, it does. "On his own" means "more than others with the same cultural inheritance", and that substitution makes Professor Warren's assertion false.

Professor Warren expresses an economic version of the original stoned revelation "everything is related to everything else", which makes sense if you look at it by the light of the full moon, squint, and hold it just so. It's not helpful, except as an indication of how this administration thinks and where they intend to go (more Solyndra, more LightSquared, more regulation and more waivers for friends).

611 Why neither the Liberals nor Conservatives can be convinced they are wrong - and why nobody ever wins a political argument.

Each side is 100% convinced that they are correct.

Perspective creates reality. For example the perspective of a person standing in a busy street is radically different from that of a person standing on the sidewalk of that same street.

To the person standing in the street it is critical that the traffic be somehow stopped - it will kill him if it isn't. That is not an illusion or a mistake - he has correctly interpreted his situation; he is in mortal peril. It is critical that he succeed in his goal of stopping the murderous traffic; indeed it becomes an all consuming task. To him and people like him traffic must be stopped.

The person standing on the sidewalk sees things very differently. To him it is obvious that the traffic has to move; it carries people to work and goods to market. If that traffic is stopped people will lose their jobs, food can't be distributed - everyone will die of starvation if the traffic stops.

We have an excellent analogy of politics: the man in the street is a Liberal, the man on the sidewalk is a conservative; they simply view things differently. Neither is imagining anything.

To the Liberal in the street it is obvious that Conservatives are trying to kill him - they must be stopped so that the traffic can be stopped - these people are his mortal enemy. Any tactic is fair to stop these people in their murderous agenda - lying, cheating, stealing, all these are acceptable to stop evil conservatives. If - out of self defense - conservatives have to be killed that is regrettable - but it is their own fault.

Of course the conservative sees things differently; to him it is obvious that Liberals are idiots to take and hold the positions which they do.

Our analogy holds up in real world politics; Liberals see Conservatives as their mortal enemy - Conservatives see Liberals as idiots. Both sides are 100% correct in what they see.

Which led me back to the halcyon days of my youth when I was watching Wagon Train: and my most vivid memory was of the wagon train being followed in parallel with Bureaucrat Train, composed of intrepid regulators equipped with portable printing presses for publishing their voluminous edicts that kept the Wagon Trainers from veering into quicksand or over precipices.

621 Exasperated that the likes of Breitbart only read the comments, the cobs have taken to posting the comments on the front page.

This is nothing but more of the same class-warfare rhetoric from the left, albeit slightly more artful than is typical.  Every time they want more of your money, its all about teachers, firemen, police, roads, blah, blah, blah.  They never address the problems and inefficiencies of the system that failed policies have built up over the last century (right and left). Why? Because it will cost them political capital and votes.  Pure and simple. This crap gets them votes, because people buy into this crap, without thinking critically about the problems.

As one of the above commenters praphrases, the wealthy and productive have made the best use out of the tools society (excluding the 40+% that may not pay any taxes except maybe sales taxes and the sin taxes that disproportionately hit the impoverished) has provided for everyone. And for that, they must be punished!

So, rather than invoke American on American envy and hatred with this same tired crap, why not put your support behind people who are willing to address the hard problems so we don't saddle our future generations with our continued failures?

This tax and spend mindset got us $700B+ in stimulus spending that was rotten with earmarks (Solyndra, anyone?) and that did absolutely nothing to turn around unemployment, in part because of the inefficiencies of and corruption in government, the daily assault on business, and the class-warfare that these people use to motivate their base.  This was a complete waste and its not even paid for.  It's gone.  It's our future generation's responsibility now (talk about the next kid who comes around?).  I don't blame businesses and the wealthy for hoarding cash in the face of such uncertain times and outright hostility.

Obama-care has raised my employer's cost of health insurance by 35%, practically overnight, as businesses struggle to adapt to the increasing burdens. Does that get past on to me?  You betcha!  Instead of having money to reinvest, employers are forced to do the same with less, and employees bear the brunt.  My level or quality of coverage has not increased commensurately, and my future prospects for pay increases are diminished as what funds that otherwise would have been available are not. This 35% is purely attributable to the increased costs that insurers expect to see as a result of intrusive legislation.

I like the retort to this kind of screed by Milton Friedman.

If you really are compassionate about helping the impoverished, tell me how these points do not have the capacity to improve the lives of Americans better than any heavy-handed intervention in business or class-warfare strategy.  The best way out of poverty is through employment.  How much does keeping people on the government dole improve a person's initiative to work and their marketable skills?  I'll answer that.  None!

The class-warfare Buffet rule is expected to raise revenue by increasing the capital gains rate in 2013, I believe.  Expect a market contraction as people lock in built-in gains at the lower rate, saving themselves real money by avoiding the tax risk.  Would you be willing to invest in a risky venture (tech start-ups) if you knew that to realize a gain, instead of having to pay 15% on capital gains you would have to pay 25% (aside from the fact that corporate income is already taxed before shareholders can recognize capital gains)?  Expect a further contraction in the capital markets.

This dual assault on the job market (reduced supply of workers and reduced investment by businesses and the wealthy) by such rhetoric as this hack proposes is doomed to continued failure.  I don't get how people can fail to recognize this.

Posted by: An Observation at September 22, 2011 01:53 PM (ylhEn) Your analogy falls down like a sack of livers on the point that when the traffic stops, you have North Korea. In other words, one of those perspectives results in systems that do not work. So those points of view are not both 100% correct beyond the miniscule moment the people are in. Which is why we're always pointing out that leftists are staticists, they don't account for change over time, which is why they think there will always be rich people to tax no matter how high the tax rate is. This is also why the "so why hasn't socialist europe collpsed yet, huh" argument falls down. Destroying a society or culture takes time, it doesn't happen overnight. And europe is in that process now, as we have seen in our daily DOOM reports. Europe entered the modern era as the richest region in the history of mankind (partly, as the lefties once pointed out, by plundering other regions for treasure). They have squandered that wealth and the standard of life that wealth created.

627 Also, Jordan makes the same classic political equivocation - American right vs. European right. Probably deliberately. In Europe, "right-wing" is largely synonymous with authoritarian. In America, it's not. So when the OED refers to "right-wing" that doesn't mean the same thing as "right-wing" discussing American politics. The political mainstream in Europe doesn't have a right wing in the sense we use the phrase. It's left and far left by our definition. Unfortunately, this conflation is also all too common on the left. When a Chinese diplomat, a London hotel owner and a Wisconsin grocer say "in the West," they just *might* not all mean the same thing.

630 When a European says "far right" he means a neo-Nazi.

631 Taxes were collected to build infrastructure and so are an investment by the society that paid those taxes. Later politicians have no 'right' to claim first fruits.  The Return on Investment is the growth of a societies affluence that also provides a larger tax base.  Those politicians didn't pay those taxes and have no right to demand compensation for risks they did not take.

632 And we need to do away with this false notion that there is an authoritarian left and an authoritarian right. That's a bullshit polysci crutch to support ever and ever more authoritarianism and total control by the state. They set up a false evil to the right and  then continually brandish the boogeyman of the evil right as justification to ignore all that they deem to be on the right.
The reality is: There is a scale, with two extremes on each end that can never be fully reached. On one end is total autonomy of the individual; the other is total control by the state. Totalitarianism, communism, socialism and liberalism and all in degrees toward more and more state control. All of the evils of the "right" as they define it are nothing more than examples of more and more state control over the individual. Conservatives, libertarians, etc. are on scale more and more toward the freedom of the individual. Now you can see why the continue the stupid notion of an evil left and an evil right. Because the more to the "right" as they define it is in reality giving more and more freedom to the individual.

634 "So when the OED refers to "right-wing" that doesn't mean the same thing as "right-wing" discussing American politics. " You don't have to tell me what it means, because one beauty of the OED is that it speaks for itself: right-wing: That section of a political party, assembly, or other body most tending to hold conservative or reactionary views (see right n.1 17 d). Freq. (with hyphen) attrib. or as adj. It's actually not a European term and the OED's usage examples are American, not European. First usage by William James in 1905, followed by Upton Sinclair. (There are earlier usages, but they refer to poultry or military maneuvers.)

637 I'm kind of late to the party, and maybe someone has made this point already: While Warren's comments are silly and deserving of mocking, let's take them seriously for a moment. If she is correct in what she says, is she not implying that there is no excuse for poverty? If all it takes is some roads, a police force, a fire department, etc. to have a successful business, if hard work, intelligence, creativity, innovation, etc., are just minor concerns, then there is no excuse for not having a successful business, right?

639 Jonah Goldberg made this point on Mega Kelly's show today.  I'm restating it in a longer version. Hopefully I do it justice:

If one is going to say that there is some 'extra' tax burden that the rich business owner owes over and
above his current personal tax rate, as a sort of  'pay back' for using the roads/bridges/police/fire infrastructure,
(paid for by all of society collectively)  that keeps his total business costs lower than they would otherwise be . . .

WELL THEN BY THAT SORT OF 'LOGIC' . . .

this rich business owner should be allowed to claim that all the taxes that are paid to the government by
each and every one of his employees are actually taxes HE should get credit for, not them, because those taxes are only part of
the wage he is paying them in his total costs of doing business.

The whole thing is silly, of course, but by Warren's own 'logic', the business owner deserves MORE of our thanks,
not less.

640 The reason why businesses have to relocate over seas, or have their phone calls routed to India (a third world country) to handle customer service, is because Americans with only a public school education, are basically illiterate and dysfunctional. And when these students turn into adults, 47% will pay nothing towards the cost of hiring all those unionized teachers who taught them so well. What's up with that? If it takes a fucking village to do shit, why aren't half of the villagers chipping in? There's your problem in a nut shell, lady.

641 Sorry Ace and others, that video had me spewing up the coffee I drank 4 hours ago. I vented my spleen a bit. Didn't mean to go all New Yawk on dat. At least you liked it enough to put it up top ... thanks!

642 The other thing on my mind is that I as a business support and give money/time/energy to worthwhile causes as I see them, in my community and my state. I live and work in Michigan. Our economy has been cratered by this libtards' fellow travelers. I don't spend a little on everything. I do spend where I see it makes a benefit to me, to my community. Its my right to make those decisions. I busted my ass for my money, and I get ... MEEEE .... to decide where and how it goes. I pay enough in taxes to hire multiple high wage high value income earners, who will help grow the business. But I can't. Because I have to send this money to the government so that they can spend it. On things I don't agree with. And then give it away, as often as not, to my competitors. Or in the case of the Palestinians, those who wish me to die. Why can't I simply pay this money to say two or three really good people, who will do a far better and more intelligent job spending it, than the government? Of all the insanely simple ideas out there, why not do that? Take all the money we would have paid to the government, and pay workers with this? Why not? Force the government to cut its spending. Simply deprive the beast of cash, and parts that are unneeded will wither and die.

643 Just a lowly employee here. I work for a very small company. It isn't I who have it all on the line. It wasn't I who shoulders all the risk. My boss works so many hours it is unreal. I do everything I can to put money in his pocket because I know that's how money ends up in mine. Perhaps Liz should look at a breakdown of who pays how much taxes, she would find that not only do we owe the brave successful entrepreneur for our jobs, but they also built the roads, and payed for the defense, and law enforcement, then still on average gave a lot more to charity to help others. I think we ought to be saying thank you. Not pay more.

648 608 Most of you are too young but back in the day it was fun watching our teachers giving Orwell as assigned reading while trying to explain him away at the same time.

Ohh, yeah!  I sat agog in my seat in 1978 as the teacher tried to explain to us that "Brave New World" was about a "right wing dystopia."  I was like listening to a physics teacher explain the Second Law of Thermodynamics makes perpetual motion possible...and being serious.

650 Most of her examples are paid for by local property taxes and local gasoline taxes. And when that factory packs up and moves to China, as they are wont to do because of high taxation and regulation, there will be less of a pool of contributors for her beloved police and roads. But instead of thanking the factory for the tremendous contribution she derides them as leeches.

651 Fighting through all the testosterone here, there's one point here that's obvious, and one other that's not-so-obvious but IMO inevitable: 1. Brown is cooked. Yes, Wall Street and the Chamber of Commerce are going to feed his campaign millions, maybe in the tens of millions; and yes, the race will establish a new record for money spent on a U.S. Senate seat, one so high it could end up being like that Bob Beamon record long jump in the Mexico City Olympics and last for a very long time. But the fact is, Warren is one of those candidates who, the more money spent against her, the less the negative effect on her chances; actually at a certain point, I think it's going to work in reverse: the more money spent against her, the stronger she will perform at the ballot box. This one YouTube video illustrates the point: millions could be spent against her, Rush could do a week on her alone, Fox News could spend that same week on her pretty much 24-7, the entire conservative blogosphere could rise up against her - and with one essentially zero investment YouTube uploaded from a cell phone, she both undoes all that and turns it all onto itself. Look at all those videos of old films in which Roosevelt is saying, I welcome their hate. 2. This goes beyond that one U.S. Senate seat. It's like running against a combination of an incumbent president, whose mere incumbency is bound to attract a certain level of support, and a new wave reform candidate taking on the establishment - something that has happened in the past in ONE candidate, but has never happened with two persons. It's like all the selling out that Obama did to Wall Street washes away, simply because Warren is on the same side of the ballot. I'm not arguing for either of these things to happen; I'm just predicting - just laying it out here to keep track of later on when it comes true. BTW, this does NOT mean I'm predicting Obama is going to win re-election. I'm less confident about this last one, but I do think either Perry or Romney is likely to beat Obama. The key may be how huge the resources turn out to be that Republicans and their supporters decide to pour into going after Warren, because all of those are going to end up wastage. I'd much prefer all those resources get spent in swing states like Ohio and Florida, where they can do some electoral college good.

652 It seems like all the things she mentions are things most conservatives and libertarians (at least as a whole) believe.

Scott Brown should call her bluff and make her explain how all the other things she wants the factory owner to pay for fit into this social contract.

Also, that's got to be one of the best displays of an Atlas Shrugged-type villain I've seen- denigrating the achievers and clearly acting superior to them as she seeks to gain power over them, knowing deep down she could never do what they do.

653 She's talking out of her a__ when she says a person can't--and has never--established a thriving business without the federal government's heavy involvement. The great old fortunes from steel, retail, railroads, oil, lumber, banking, etc. (Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, Goldman, Vanderbilt, Hill, Astor, etc,) were built without much more than toll roads, and there was no, nada, zilch in the way of federal individual or corporate income taxes (not until 1913). And, of course no payroll taxes because they weren't instituted until the late 1930s. So what did you expect; she was appointed by THE ONE--The Snake Oil Salesman. Doug
